This could have been a contentious experience, given drive through, etc. But everything was well-under control at Cedar Knoll. Someone greeted you as you drove up, radioed our name to the restaurant. We waited in the car. Minimal delay in receiving our delicious Mother's Day feast. And, in case someone wanted to do some last minute shopping, Queen Bee Designs had pitched a tent, displaying lovely gifts for purchase.
The cuisine was up to Cedar Knolls' usual high standards. Delicious. Every course was delectable. We missed enjoying the restaurant's ambiance, but a delightful experience just the same.
In my opinion, Cedar Knoll is the perfect setting for all residents who are seeking a respectable get away from the Alexandria City environment for all kinds of families!
what a great way to celebrate St Patrick's Day. the food was creative, well displayed and always plentiful. the band added a great element, as did the roaring fire in the historic stone fireplace.
Let's keep Cedar Knoll is business during the critical time of quarantine. Take out, please!
The staff was friendly but the service was pretty slow and the restaurant was only half full. The food was average and the prices were high so I didn't think it was a good value.
Wonderful meal; welcoming staff, beautiful view
With overwhelming popularity (power) comes overwhelming pricing (corruption?). No, it's still a great place: right on the river, elegantly outfitted, with good service and supported by a fine kitchen [with the exception of the rockfish - soup? really??: Call me a philistine, but that entree really (really) disappointed yours truly.] Otherwise, all is well in the stratosphere where the Knoll now resides, only don't count us as acolytes any longer. Sadly, we're done breathing the sweet, rarified air for now, Olde Towne restaurants beckon.
Fantastic meal and atmosphere.
The food is always amazing. The staff is attentive and with a little training would be great.
Excellent atmosphere! Great wait staff, food was fabulous.
I’ve been in the restaurant business my whole life so I can’t help critique pretty much every restaurant I dine in. I’ve been working at a French restaurant for over 16 years now so I like to think I know good food and especially service. I was really pleased that I found a restaurant that fits everything I look for in dining out. The time we pulled up to the time we left I don’t think I could have been happier, from the view of the river to the feel of warmth almost like walking back in time as you go into the beautiful old building has such a nice atmosphere I knew I was going to enjoy it I just wasn’t sure if the food could stand to my expectations but I was wrong. The oysters on the half shell were amazing, the goat cheese salad and the consistency of flavors blew me away. I ordered the Veal scallopine and it was probably the best I ever had. Service was right on and the hostess was sweet. They even offered taking a picture of us which was a nice touch. I’ve eaten all over the south, Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia North Carolina I would put Cedar Knoll at the very top of my list and if I lived here I’d make it a regular spot indeed
If you like to sit in the sun room, it gets very warm by the windows so dress in layers!
Our love hate relationship with Cedar Knoll has been on and off for a few years now. On the positive side the food is always great our issues has almost always been service related. This was our first time back in many months and we saw a big improvement. We decided to return because we saw several good reviews and we had a few bad experiences there in the past. I will admit I am hard on them ,but here is my reasoning. Cedar Knoll is one of the more expensive restaurants you can eat at here in Alexandria and when I am paying at the high end $35-40 an entrée $15 appetizers I expect outstanding service. So this return trip I can say the wait staff was far more attentive than in the past when they let us down. It did seem to take a long time between courses and the longest wait was when we ordered dessert it really took a long time and it wasn’t crowded but they did at least check on us and clear plates fast so that was a big improvement from when we stopped going. I would say if you don’t mind waiting a bit but love very creative fantastic food you will love it.
I had a lovely birthday evening with my husbanf at Cedar Knoll. The place is so beautiful and cozy, perfect for a romantic night. The food and team are amazing!
Fabulous evening, food was phenomenal, and the oyster stew needs to be on the everyday menu.
Great ambiance with a picturesque view of the Potomac at sunset.
Or favorite local restaurant for the past several years. Exceptional quality food reasonably priced (for the quality. This is not the Inn, but these chefs are Little Washington quality. Try them.
We loved everything about this place, from the friendly staff, and delicious food to the superb view, and the history of the property. Hard to get all those in one restaurant. The place has an old-world vibe, warm, welcoming, and relaxing. The perfect place for an elegant gathering of friends who like to be treated well.
The ambience is second to none. The food was quite good, as were the cocktails. Service was a little disjointed but it was a busy Valentines weekend. Everyone was very pleasant and warm. However, We did get a very negative vibe from our main server, Kadijia, curt, at times inattentive, just did not match the mood or attitude of the rest of the staff. Didn’t ruin the evening but definitely cast a shadow on our outing.
Very cute venue for a date night. Food is great and staff is very friendly and courteous.
Good atmosphere and great food
Excellent good quality Nicely presented with excellent service and attention to details
Amazing gem. Food is a cut above anything else in the area, especially at the price point. Worth the trip, beautiful views.
Food was mediocre at best. Ambiance great. Service very slow.
We had reservations for Valentine's dinner and from the first"hello" at the door, we felt special. The setting was warm and cozy by the fire, the service was expertly friendly and timed perfectly throughout the meal, and the food, as always, was fantastic.
The best meal ever!
The most quaint, beautiful, historic and absolutely delicious dinner! An absolute treat in every aspect. I highly recommend Cedar Knoll. Worthy of your biggest celebrations or just turning dinner out into a special night out. Definitely a must go. I ubered from DC to get here and even with all the great DC restaurants, this was worth the effort.
We had Sunday brunch at cedar knoll restaurant. The service was excellent. Also we had a great view of the Potomac River from our window table. The Virginia Benedict was superb, both the oyster version and the classic version. It was also pleasantly quiet despite most of the tables being full . We will b back for brunch, and most likely dinner in the future.
Service was friendly and unobtrusive. Recommendations cheerfully given when asked. Zero attempt to upsell. Food was delicious. View wonderful. Looking forward to my next visit.
Great brunch location. Add a glass of Pear-secco, pear with prosecco, to up your meal to fabulous.
Great food and service with a nice view of the river.
This is an absolutely wonderful charming gem. The view is worth a million bucks, but the food is very much up to it.
My friend & I had the crabcake with a fantastic Sauvignon Blanc with a shared deconstructed passion fruit tart! The crabcake was huge, full of lump meat, no cloying tastes to overpower the crab & was presented on a bed of mashed potatoes & spinach & plated with an outstanding bernaise. The complimentary bread was homemade & had a fresh from oven taste. Desert was very shareable & all the elements of the tart came together very nicely.
Everything I have ever had at this restaurant has been great and the service very attentive.
When the weather is better you can sit outside under their beautiful pergola.
I have brought my two small dogs many times to sit outside with me and they are treated like family!
Love this Inn!
A very nice menu and great service, Cedar Knoll doesn't need the wonderful Potomac view and ambiance to earn credits but they do add to the very pleasing experience.
Superb meal! All of our choices were beautifully prepared and presented, from the burrata and the duck appetizers through the mushroom tart and the shrimp and lobster risotto to the lovely passion fruit tart.
Fantastic food and service. We will definitely return!
We live in the Mt. Vernon area so great spot for Daddy/Daughter date night...
The lovely setting overlooking the Potomac River never disappoints. All of us dining were highly pleased with our brunch food. The service was slow and a bit inattentive, but otherwise a wonderful experience.
Wonderful! I haven't been in years, and all of the great things that I've heard about the new management and menu was absolutely true. I think of this as a great summer spot, but our table in the log cabin, with a roaring fire, great whiskey cocktails and wintery menu made it the perfect spot for a cold, winter night.
Food was delicious. The bottle of wine we purchased to go with dinner was not the same year as listed on the menu. We were charged the menu price, despite the bottle we were served was a more recent vintage.
Overall, we had a lovely evening and will go back; we will be more careful when wine is brought to the table for approval.
Very neat restaurant - greatly enjoyed it! Wonderful service!
