Meet by friendly staff who offered us the choice of several tables as we were eating quite early. Good choice on menu with some veggie/vegan options. Food was lovely and service at a good pace.
Great value too!
Asked to be seated away from family groups as they had place our two person table between two families and the rest of the place was empty.
Cafe style give, but the food was exquisit and deserved a slight more ambience (candles on tables etc would have been lovely).
Overall, service, food and experience was great, only feedback would be sectioning an area for families/ casual dining vs romantic couples for a good experience for all.
Good value for money.
Wonderful service and we both enjoyed our meal on Saturday evening. Only concern was that there were very few people in all evening which detracts from the ambience. A shame as it deserves to be full and we would certainly recommend.
Very enjoyable 'bistro' food in a lovely setting. We'll definitely visit again.
We took NZ cousins to Cafe Ceres and they were impressed with food and casual ambience and wine range.
The menu is small but all good -the staff friendly and nothing gets in the way of folk talking and enjoying food together. Definitely recommend it.
Food was as excellent and great value as it always has been BUT on a Friday evening there were very few people there, and by we left we were the only customers. This is very worrying indeed for a much loved place which we have been visiting since it first opened in a small terraced house nearly 20 years ago. What has gone wrong?
Very friendly staff, accommodated our need to sit downstairs. Delicious steak. Simple French food well done, and great value.
Lovely evening meal with authentic French food. Nice house wine too, all at reasonable prices. Nice ambiance but music might have been pleasant too. In France you usually get bread and butter or olives as a pre starter, that would be nice to nibble on while choosing. Lovely tarteflette and tarte tatin!
Lovely simple but tasty French mountain food. Friendly informal service. Really good house wine and very good vfm.
Limited menu well done. Excellent overall value. Sensible balance.
Was disappointed, had to wait quite some time for our meal, and not happy with the stairs to the seating. The meal was good and very tasty though small portions. The staff were pleasant and helpful and patient, happy to accommodate our alterations to the desert. Felt the price reflected the meal, could do with more choices. Shame there is no parking, made us late for our booking.
The service was extremely slow. I have been before and the service seems to be always slow. Perhaps they need more staff. Our waiter forgot to bring us a round of drinks we ordered and also forgot to convey to the chef that one of us did not want one of the vegetables described on the menu. I have been about 4 times now but not sure I will go again. Shame because its location suits us so well.
Great food and good atmosphere with very good service
The ambience was fine, the normal french mix of classy permanent decor and trashy table cloths and trimmings.
We had the flat iron steak, I ordered it rare and there was not even the hint of pink inside.
The olives and bread could have come from the basics section in the supermarket.
The food was a bit disappointing. It was pleasant enough, not too expensive, easy to get a table last minute on a saturday night, which might be because there is a lot of seating.
The menu is not extensive but the food is done very well. Everything we had from bread and dips to starters and mains were very tasty and good value.
Pleasant welcome. Simple menu but cooked to perfection, chef sticks to what he knows and does it well.
Lovely atmosphere, small enough for it to be cosy but not so small that you're bumping elbows with the table next to you, great restaurant for a date. The food was also great, the pan-fried duck was delicious even though it wasn't as rare as i'd usually have it. But the dauphinoise potatoes and veg were excellent. Would very much recommend
We always enjoy eating here. Unpretentious décor with a French style ambience. Good value and quality. We took advantage of the £25 for 2 main courses including a carafe of wine. The gratin dauphinois is always something to enjoy. Of course, the location at Hunters Bar brings added ambience.
Excellent food and service. Very reasonable prices. My fourth visit and many more to come I hope.
I love this restaurant the food is always extremely good
This is a wonderful little cafe/restaurant that really surpassed our expectations, and at such good prices! We came on a Saturday evening for a 30th birthday and loved the quietly buzzing ambience of the upstairs dining area. The food is delicious, authentic and comes in hearty portions, while a gluten intolerant member of our party had a much bigger range to choose from than usual. The service came with a smile; our waitress was friendly and attentive, without being overbearing. Special requests were seen to easily and with no fuss. I really can't speak highly enough of this place. We will be back!
Great meal and great value as usual. The menu may seem limited but everything is consistently good quality. We really love it. 🙂
I am a reasonably regular Ceres user and I’m never disappointed.
For the price, the food is great.
Chef sticks to what he knows, which suits me fine.
This visit was for my birthday and it rounded off a good day very nicely.
Great as always never disappoints good relaxing meal
Great cooking. Tasty. Not pretentious. Authentic French food and ambience.
The food was lovely and it was a perfect setting for a casual date.
No complaints. Food delicious and wine very good . Suitable menu for children. Staff pleasant and helpful.
Lovely food except for the dessert. I ordered creme brûlée but found the sugar on top very hard. Also we ordered a bottle of wine, was not asked to taste first and found it not to be to our liking. We were not able to change. Otherwise quite nice food .
Good choice of food, well cooked and well presented. Had eaten here previously but only for breakfast, we were pleasantly impressed with the evening menu as well as the wine list. Good value for both food and drinks.
I took my partner here to propose, the staff were amazing, the food was exceptional. We'll definitely be back again and again.
A really good experience. all four meals were well-cooked and presented, in moderate portions and without undue delay. Service was cheerful and friendly, and the bill reasonable (£100 for 4 including some wine). As is often the case, the noise level was high, even though it wasn't full.
Delicious food as always. Felt the waitress rushed us to pay. We hadn't asked for the bill but she asked us if we wanted it. Felt under pressure to leave even though it wasn't especially busy .
Delicious, authentic French food with friendly service for a relaxing meal with friends
Real French cooking, brings back memories like good food does. An unpretentious gem that any village in the Alps would be proud of, right there in Sheffield. Go for duck and a rosé, you will leave smiling.
Always one of my favourite places to visit for delicious, fresh food, excellent service, and lovely atmosphere.
I visited with a friend who is gluten and dairy intolerant and they went out of their way to provide options for her, even making a special fruit salad for a dessert. Cannot praise them highly enough. Well worth a visit.
Excellent food as always, french style, cosy relaxed setting
Always excellent authentic French cuisine. Delicious. The specials are up there too. Won't disappoint.
Excellent meal and staff were very attentive.....great coffee!
The food is beautiful and the service is great suitable for any occasion
