Chai Ki (Restaurant)
In the evening (from 5pm) the A La Carte menu in the Restaurant offers a more refined, experimental cuisine featuring traditional flavours and ingredients, alongside a carefully selected wine & drinks list.
HIGHCHAIRS, PRAMS & BUGGIES
We have designated tables for high chairs in our Toddy Shop Bar only, subject to availability. Lunchtimes are busy so we recommend contacting us in advance so we can note your requirements. Due to limited space we kindly request that all prams, buggies, scooters or similar are left at reception for safe keeping.
I visited the restaurant for the first time. Staff are really friendly and the food was great.
Lovely food and service so many veggie options and well catered for an Indian palette too. Great cocktails. Visited many times and would visit again.
Excellent posh Indian food. Portions could've been slightly bigger, but they are all delicious nonetheless. This is a great place for larger gatherings, it's become a staple of an annual get together.
My wife loved the twist on Indian cuisine! Will go back again.
Great food and catered to the fasting times x we requested at a particular time and ther brought the food at perfect timing.
Sadly the concept was quite confusing and very restricted for people who are vegetarians. We originally booked to dine as a party of 9 for the evening but were expected to pick out of the ‘Party Menu’. These were reasonably priced but the items for vegetarians were limited to a choice of 2 items for the price of £29+.
We decided to dine as late as 9pm as we had an extra person joining and to allow us to choose from the ‘A La Carte’ menu. Again choices were more limited for vegetarians for dinner. Upon seeing the ‘Toddy’s Bar’ menu- the bar located at the entrance, we realised that there was better options for both diets. Sadly the venue refused the purchase of the food from the bar to be dined in the main restaurant when in effect it’s in the same place. Outrageous as it seems we had our starters at Toddy’s Bar and then moved to the main restaurant for mains. Not a place I’d recommend. There is no organisation. However, I would like to thank every member of staff and the manager who handled this situation very well and accomodated where they could. Although they tried their absolute best it was dissapointing to receive a few cold meat dishes and uncooked lamb and fish dishes.
Everything felt like it was all over the place. If it’s an indian concept, Indians know it better. I think it needs strategy to prevent negative feedback. A look at the overall from booking to dining.
Not fully what I was expecting but it was ok. Worked out well because I was in the nearby cinema, but i wouldn't travel especially to eat there.
The food didn’t have an authentic Indian taste. Too many clashing tastes in the food. Portion sizes too small
Excellent food, fast service, reasonably priced, great location and a lovely ambience.
Food was great, personally would have preferred a slightly larger portion but other than that everything was awsome
Love the bar menu here. Tasty and prepared with very little wait time. Make sure you order a few small plates and share!
Always enjoy going back here! Good value, modern twist of Indian classic.
I've been to Chai ki a few times before. This time every thing on the menu tasted different, wasn't as good as before especially the butter chicken.
The service was good but the food let me down.
The dinning music is so romantic
Absolutely amazing service and the food wasn’t that great but I would definitely come again for the service. The workers were really kind and considerate.
Great food and fantastic service. We made staff aware that we needed to leave promptly and they were very quick bringing out the courses.
Excellent as always, my favourite restaurant in canary wharf
Good food at a reasonable price
Lovely food, big portions, desserts not great but everything else is ❤️❤️❤️
Great food. Staff was friendly, gave good food recommendations and service was fast . When we wanted to try another dish , it can quickly. Very good experience
The food was bland and not worth the money.
The dinner menu is not great at all.
Definitely go there again. We both thought this place was excellent.
- Cocktails very well made (and not ridiculously priced)
- Service was excellent. Especially in the restaurant - just the right level of touch and very attentive.
- Food came promptly
- Food was EXCELLENT, we had the Venison, Paneer, Bitter Chicken, Prawns (main), Chaat, rice, nanns and a Chocolate Cake to finish (exceptional - hard to find an interesting chocolate cake these days).
- slightly limited menu but it's much better to do a few good things well than a lot of things with mediocrity.
- Incredibly good value. Two of us, 4/5 cocktails, 4 beers, starters, mains, desert and service all under £130. Bargain.
Great for a date restaurant. Just make sure you know where it is - slightly hard to find.
Great find. Well done Chai Ki.
I love this restaurant. The food is fantastic but the service was really poor this time. We got our order taken by the manager in the beginning, every other time plates came from different people who just dropped them on the table and didn’t even try to make space or effort. Staff was rude and didn’t pay attention. We didn’t get our tap water until half way through the meal. Then nobody checked on the food. They just came to clear the plates even though we were still eating. We asked for the bill and another staff member just dropped it. Then I had call them again and said could I pay and they misheard I asked for the bill and laughed and kept on laughing with the other staff.
Although great place really good atmosphere and food is amazing but really put off by the ignorance of the staff!
There are 2 dowsides, first one that we encountered was that we could not order anything from the bar menu in the restaurant...strange. Second one was the 2 hour rule, they are very rude (for me at least) to come and mention this esp. as you are waiting for your order half the time!
Something i intend on having words about today.
Good selection of food, all beautifully cooked & at your table promptly
Unfortunately not a good value for money so will not be going back.
Went at lunch. Preset menu. Starter - Salmon. Beautiful. Main - Chicken. Sauce was Very tasty, some of the chicken was slightly overcooked. Dessert - Chocolate cake with ice cream. Both were delicious - maybe the cake was too large a portion (although that could have been due to a full gut!). Drinks - mocktail and lychee juice. Both were okay.
Dined at the Toddy bar with my wife and some friends. First time for two of them and they LOVED it and have asked why they hadn't been there before.
The veggie and the meat dishes are great as are the wines. Not so keen on the cocktails though as a little too sweet and unimaginative. The Chai cocktail at the end was great, but also quite sweet.
Atmosphere was great if not a little noisy and upstairs in the Toddy bar was quite difficult to read the menu as the light was very dim, but it could also be my age :-D
Overall a great experience and this is around my 4th time to Chai Ko and I love it and long may be go on and not change too much!
It was a very nice place
Fantastic as ever
Thank you for making it a special one for my brothers 30th this time
Went to the toddy bar starters good curries poor. Manager was really accommodating but the food just didn’t taste great
Great service and very tasty food. Ioannes was fantastic as our waiter and made some very good suggestions. Service was quick and the cocktail offer is good. Definitely worth a visit
Top tip: Get the small plates.
Staff were a little clumsy and kept dropping cutlery or had very difficult accents to understand
This is a really good restautant - good food and a nice place to have meal. Only minor issue is it a bit niosey for some and it is a bit for an intimate date - that said, they are very minor observations. I will definatly return again.
Service was one of the best ive ever had. Very fast and excellent food
Great meal, quick service for lunch time. A little expensive but worth it.
We had the salmon starter which was delightfully juicy , the flavour wAs light and fragrant.
And Prawn moilee was awesome served with fluffy garlic naans- too full for desert, maybe next time !!
Inflexible. You are not allowed to order from the “Toddy Bar” menu (fuller menu) from the “restaurant” (restricted menu). I am 9 months pregnant and they suggested the only option is to sit in the mezzanine, even with my mobility restrictions. It took them 20 minutes to inform us of this option. Very disappointed!
Went for a business lunch with a party of 4. Attentive staff provided excellent service and the lunch dishes were flavourful and ideally portioned (didn't feel weighed down/drowsy after eating). The entrée I ordered - mango salmon must be the most interesting salmon dish I've had, good combo of spices and flavours. Chai Ki dares to experiment with ingredients and flavours.
We visited Chai Ki on a Friday evening to celebrate our son's birthday. We had explicitly stated in the OpenTable booking that the booking event type was birthday and in the description requested to have seating assigned in the back where it is generally quieter because we wanted to celebrate our son's birthday. On entering the restaurant we were seated in the back which is great of Chai Ki to pick up on this and follow through on the request but we didn't receive any specific benefit from overtly communicating that it was our son's birthday that day; I'm not sure whether this is down to how OpenTable communicates to the restaurant but it seems unlikely given that they honoured our request for seating in the back but missed the birthday mention in the same sentence.
Outside of that small niggle (and maybe Chai Ki doesn't do anything with Birthdays), the rest of the experience was excellent. The waitress serving us was top notch and did not hesitate to inform us in advance when there was a slight delay in the food arriving to our table, was helpful and overall very efficient in keeping us supplied with anything we might need.
One note of improvement on the menu; we misinterpreted initially what the menu items specifically meant. Items with a star in front of them are actually main courses and the rest of the items are starters; as a result of this, we ended up ordering 4 starters and one main which in the end did turn out to be sufficient for the four of us but it might be advisable to make it more clear on the menu which is which.
The food itself was very enjoyable. The naan was perhaps a bit too dry for my taste (even after soaking up the curry) but that could just be down to the baking on the night and as a result of having had naans in 3 different Indian restaurants which has given me some level of comparison.
Noise levels were a bit high but to be fair, it was a Friday and the place was packed. Bill was reasonable and would recommend to others.
