Chai Ki (Restaurant)
In the evening (from 5pm) the A La Carte menu in the Restaurant offers a more refined, experimental cuisine featuring traditional flavours and ingredients, alongside a carefully selected wine & drinks list.
HIGHCHAIRS, PRAMS & BUGGIES
We have designated tables for high chairs in our Toddy Shop Bar only, subject to availability. Lunchtimes are busy so we recommend contacting us in advance so we can note your requirements. Due to limited space we kindly request that all prams, buggies, scooters or similar are left at reception for safe keeping.
It was a very nice place
Fantastic as ever
Thank you for making it a special one for my brothers 30th this time
Went to the toddy bar starters good curries poor. Manager was really accommodating but the food just didn’t taste great
Great service and very tasty food. Ioannes was fantastic as our waiter and made some very good suggestions. Service was quick and the cocktail offer is good. Definitely worth a visit
Top tip: Get the small plates.
Staff were a little clumsy and kept dropping cutlery or had very difficult accents to understand
This is a really good restautant - good food and a nice place to have meal. Only minor issue is it a bit niosey for some and it is a bit for an intimate date - that said, they are very minor observations. I will definatly return again.
Service was one of the best ive ever had. Very fast and excellent food
Great meal, quick service for lunch time. A little expensive but worth it.
We had the salmon starter which was delightfully juicy , the flavour wAs light and fragrant.
And Prawn moilee was awesome served with fluffy garlic naans- too full for desert, maybe next time !!
Inflexible. You are not allowed to order from the “Toddy Bar” menu (fuller menu) from the “restaurant” (restricted menu). I am 9 months pregnant and they suggested the only option is to sit in the mezzanine, even with my mobility restrictions. It took them 20 minutes to inform us of this option. Very disappointed!
Went for a business lunch with a party of 4. Attentive staff provided excellent service and the lunch dishes were flavourful and ideally portioned (didn't feel weighed down/drowsy after eating). The entrée I ordered - mango salmon must be the most interesting salmon dish I've had, good combo of spices and flavours. Chai Ki dares to experiment with ingredients and flavours.
We visited Chai Ki on a Friday evening to celebrate our son's birthday. We had explicitly stated in the OpenTable booking that the booking event type was birthday and in the description requested to have seating assigned in the back where it is generally quieter because we wanted to celebrate our son's birthday. On entering the restaurant we were seated in the back which is great of Chai Ki to pick up on this and follow through on the request but we didn't receive any specific benefit from overtly communicating that it was our son's birthday that day; I'm not sure whether this is down to how OpenTable communicates to the restaurant but it seems unlikely given that they honoured our request for seating in the back but missed the birthday mention in the same sentence.
Outside of that small niggle (and maybe Chai Ki doesn't do anything with Birthdays), the rest of the experience was excellent. The waitress serving us was top notch and did not hesitate to inform us in advance when there was a slight delay in the food arriving to our table, was helpful and overall very efficient in keeping us supplied with anything we might need.
One note of improvement on the menu; we misinterpreted initially what the menu items specifically meant. Items with a star in front of them are actually main courses and the rest of the items are starters; as a result of this, we ended up ordering 4 starters and one main which in the end did turn out to be sufficient for the four of us but it might be advisable to make it more clear on the menu which is which.
The food itself was very enjoyable. The naan was perhaps a bit too dry for my taste (even after soaking up the curry) but that could just be down to the baking on the night and as a result of having had naans in 3 different Indian restaurants which has given me some level of comparison.
Noise levels were a bit high but to be fair, it was a Friday and the place was packed. Bill was reasonable and would recommend to others.
The service, style ambience and presentation we're all great.
The food taste however was very disapointing. Extremely bland with basic flavours. I had also tasted some of my friends dishes and we all agreed there was not much flavour to anything. I would not come back or recommend this place to anyone as even if the food was half the price it would still be overpriced. The fact the presentation of the dishes was so good made the taste even more disappointing
The Nan bread was actually very good though, some of the best I've tasted
Amazing food and service was great!
Great food. Staff are so pleasant, welcoming and helpful.
Had an amazing experience at Chai Ki, only the second time we have gone but both times we have thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were really accommodating when we realised we booked the restaurant rather than the Toddy Shop area. The service was fantastic, all the staff were really friendly, quick to get a hold of and had a smile on their faces all the time. The food was so lovely and I would highly recommend trying the specials. Thank you, looking forward to our next experience there.
Amazing experience, food was really good and good balance between price and quality. I'll come back for sure
Food is good, service and ambience are also pleasant. Drinks prices seemed a bit high but then it is London and Canary Wharf at that
Amazing....our whole family loved everything about it!
The food was cold and over priced. The menu stated the plates were small sharing size (similar to tapas? That wasnt the case. Large plates were the same size as small plates. Very disappointing
Very pleasant. Staff were polite and good pricing.
Excellent all round. Highly recommend. Food was very tasty and service very good
Very good food and good seriousc definitely recommend
Very nice food and good atmosphere , good service as well
Great restaurant with lovely food, style and ambience
If you want great food and you’re short of time or fancy popping out for lunch, this is the place. Not sure it’s where I’d choose for a girly catch up or a relaxed evening dinner, but definitely good for the speedy diner.
It was good - it was a corporate function and as there were about 15 of us we had to order from their set menu. we had a couple of vegetarians, but the starters had a vegetarian option so it was just the mains that were a problem, so I asked if I could just order some vegetarian main dishes on top of the set menu for 15 we were already paying for, but the person taking the bookings didn't understand this, we had to substitute the exact number of vegetarian diners rather than ordering extra. The food and service was great, I'd definitely book again.
Tapa Indian style meal.
This was the third time I visited and probably the most disappointing, the food was cold and not as tasty as previous visits. I would recommend trying this restaurant but if the food continues to disappoint would stop coming here.
We booked a table for 8:30pm, we had to wait 10 minutes. Informed the manager after 10 minutes, who got us a table straight away. We were sat at the hard seat table which was dirty.
The people on the next table were asked to leave, unless they were ordering food or drinks.
Our starters tasted delicious (Seekh Lamb and Goan Prawn). The waitress came and cleaned the table after the starters. She got all the food on my outfit, which was annoying.
We had to wait a while for our main meal. The main meal (Butter Chicken) was bland, disappointing and cold. The garlic naan was burnt and the plain rice were also, cold!
We were not asked if we would like to see the desert menu until one of the waiters heard me complain to my partner.
The person on the next table was choking on her food. Her partner was trying to help her. The staff were looking at her. She was taken outside for questioning after she stopped coughing. They asked if she had any allergies which she replied “no” to.
We waited 2 hours for our dessert menu, which we were never served!
My partner was not feeling well and had upset stomach after the meal, so we asked for the bill.
There was no thank you, or hope to see you next time.
I Informed the manager that we were never served our dessert, he replied ‘I am sorry, and hoped we would have pleasant experience next time’.
We will never be coming back next time!
If you are use to prompting for service, or like non spicy food maybe you will enjoy this place. If you like spicy food, or good service I would stay away!
It was a very busy Friday evening - the lady at the reception don’t appear to know what she was doing as constantly needing assistance on a busy night. As result effected the service (I think, short of staff?)
We ordered butter chicken and prawn as main dishes. The sauces were similar to each other. The kebab starter was good.
Not a great place to diner if you have to only an hour to spare for a lunch break... the food is delicious. The staff were apologetic for the delay... would still recommend.
On arrival the first thing we were told was when we had to leave. Not very welcoming. The service was adaquate but not warm or friendly. The food was OK but by “large dish” they mean almost enough for 1. The Butter chicken sauce tasted exactly like Heinz cream of tomato soup. Overall pretty underwhelming.
All dishes in veg are different and tasty too but please add some more options bcoz we ate same food twice.
We arrived - but they didn't confirm or acknowledge that we had booked and seated us in the high area where other people were sitting - a little odd. We then asked to be moved as it felt we were interfering with their table!
We then got an email saying we hadn't attending our booking which was odd!
Excellent food, as always. But service was a bit slow this time
I was really looking forward to coming here as I’ve been to the sister restaurant Roti Chai twice and thought the food was nice. The ambience and decor was lovely but the food was disappointing. The curry we ordered (butter chicken), went cold too quickly.
I was expecting the starter to come first but it all came very quickly (which is fine), but then the meal finished a little quicker than expected and then we were left waiting for the bill. I appreciate it’s a busy place but the sauce getting cold so quickly was very disappointing. The waiter didn’t ask how the food was so I didn’t mention it as didn’t feel comfortable to complain in such a nice place.
Great location, food and atmosphere. Also very reasonable priced for the wharf - highly recommend!
My favourite restaurant, so lovely every time. Lovely food and cosy atmosphere The restaurant is perfect for special occasions and the toddy bar for a less expensive everyday meal. I'm a vegetarian and the dishes I have are always delicious. Would definitely recommend!
Great food. Will definitely go again. Vegetarian options are fantastic. And good sized portions.
