We booked a table for two for a pre-theatre meal, and the service was so prompt, efficient and friendly that we had more than enough time to have a relaxed meal. We were also impressed by the size of the place – it's much larger than its inauspicious frontage may suggest.
Good service, pleasant and helpful staff, food choices and quality very good.
A lovely to spend a perfect evening of conversation accompanied by excellent food and wine. Highly recommended.
Standard British fare. Good value for the price. Quiet place.
Extremely positive experience throughout from the warm and professional welcome to the efficient service and great food. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time made especially memorable by being located in a private room.
Impressed that they took note of and accommodated our table preference request, very attentive service, great atmosphere.
Service a bit hit and miss, for a wine bar had to ask to see the wine list, wasn't offered! Had to send one starter back for being undercooked.
We chose the pre-theatre menu. Although the choice was a little limited we were very pleased with our choices of pate to start, sausage and mash for mains and the cheese board for dessert. The house white wine was perfectly acceptable as well. The service was efficient and not obtrusive. We had booked a table for 18:00 and there were no other customers in our area throughout the time we were there. We would happily dine there again.
Good food, but forgettable. Broad wine selection and decent value. Overall pretty good, but not exceptional.
Went for NYE, food was good. Was extremely quiet and no music playing. Also found a little annoying that throughout all 4 of our courses no one asked if everything was okay, just collected our plates without saying a word.
A true great find
Comfortable place. Service was slow but the food was good.
We had a pre-theatre meal, shared a starter and ate a main each. Good food and service, as expected. Would definitely recommend for this as the service was quick. It would also be good for meeting up with friends as the restaurant layout consists of different areas.
Good for an informal business lunch. Friendly and efficient staff.
Very good and prompt service.. enjoyed the ambiance
Visiting London for a week this was one of our casual dinners. We had the the fish n chips and bangers and mash. The fish n chips were fine but nothing special. We actually expected a great fish n chips in the uk but found our version at home to be better. the bangers and mash were probably the better of the two entrees but I did suspect the mash may be instant potAtoes? There were not many people in the place on a Tuesday night, but service was a little lacking, I think one waitress had the whole restaurant but she was very pleasant. We finished with the sticky toffee pudding and it was very good!
Quick meal before heading to the theatre and it's a little hidden gem under the arches, not too busy or full of pre-theatre goers. Very dark and atmospheric as no natural light down there.
Had a lovely server who managed our time well and was incredibly friendly. Would highly recommend.
Amazing food. Reasonably priced. Would go there again. Pre-theatre selection was limited so ordered off the menu. Service was quick and staff were friendly.
Had a meal before going to the comedy club opposite. Was a nice place, cosy, good food, lovely port!!
Surprised to find Charlie’s a little empty on Valentines night (although we were booked in early). Super meals, very reasonable prices for the area and very attentive (but unobtrusive) Staff. We will be back, thanks for a lovely evening
Sadly one of my favourite haunts of many a year is dying. Booked on Saturday for 17.30 pre theatre slot and waited 30 mins for drinks (including mey having to go to be bar to collect glasses as we had two bottles of water delivered without receptacles) and then a subsequent 45 mins for food which meant a stressful meal where we had to query why later booked tables were getting food whilst we had none.
Food was OK but we were so rushed it was not a great experience. Time to try something new and there are plenty of options in this area.
1st time here booked for a pre theatre meal .very very good service all the staff were cheerful and attentive. food was excellent and very good value. will return without hesitation and will reccomend to friends .
Great central location, food was great. Venue and atmosphere really good and the most amazing, helpful and friendly hostess.
Disappointing pre-theatre meal (I never expect that much from them but this was really not great). Vinegary olives, salty soup, Caesar salad with a a soggy Parmesan "crisp". Bleurgh. Service was pretty friendly and efficient. I have to say I wouldn't go again :(
Nice and professional staff who were good at informing about special bracelets needed for new years eve. The food and wine was delicious and affordable prices. Highly recommendable!
lovely staff; lovely food; relaxed and convivial atmosphere. Bill felt a tad expensive for the general surroundings, although the food was indeed tasty.
Good food and very attentive service from lovely warm staff. However, I think it is expensive for what it is: pub grub like fish and chips, burgers, etc. Enjoyed our evening though and although the pub section was rammed, the restaurant was quiet despite it being Friday night, which suited us.
Went here for early meal before Joss Stone concert at the Royal Festival Hall.Great choice as close to both the venue and Embankment Station.Had a starter, main course and coffee.Soup was tasty and the fish and chips delicious(especially the mushy peas)Staff nice too. Will be back.
This was a post-theatre visit for four, the food, wine and ambience were as good as ever, we are never disappointed when we visit this restaurant. The staff are always attentive and helpful and a good experience is always guaranteed.
Friendly staff, nice meal. Seated in a private room with friends, which was also a nice touch. Sadly the air conditioning wasn't working, but it was due to be fixed. Food itself was good, and the service was quick (until the bill).
I organised a farewell lunch with two of my colleagues. First of all, with a sudden increase in headcount, while I could not work out online, the manager at the restaurant was so nice to amend my booking when I walked in the night before. He also promised and did give us a private room. The private room just fitted to our final headcount which was great. It was quite quiet during lunch time which we can chat a lot. The only minor problem was a little bit hot in the room, otherwise, that's perfect.
The food and drinks were great. We ordered fish & chips, burger and chicken breast, all tasty. The champagne is nice. The thing they allowed you to either order a dessert of normal size or a small bite + coffee gave us flexibility.
I will definitely come back again when organising small group of meals.
Food was good, service was good but it was very warm as aircon ineffective. Wine slightly disappointing - Picpoul thin but Cote du Rhone acceptable.
Pre theatre meal is good value and pretty good. There aren't many great places in the area that are reasonably priced so I would recommend Champagne Charlie's.
Food was very poor quality, did complain and the management were very apologetic and took both main meals off our total Bill. The Pasta had congilled and stuck together and the steak was totally burnt on one side. However we would not eat there again but will continue to partake in their wine and champagne whenever we're in London.
Average pub with average food. The waiting staff were very nice and helpful. Rather noisy at the front but we were given a nicer quiet table towards the back.
Despite having a confirmation email, the restaurant said that the booking is only confirmed if they proactively contact you. This was despite having an email saying 'CONFIRMED'. The booking was at 7.15pm and they said they 'might' have a table for us at 8pm. So we had to leave. Terrible service and hugely disappointing experience.
Busy place very close to Charnging cross theatre. Friendly staff that were very busy. A hood grind.
Pros: Food very nice indeed.
Cons: Very frosty waiter.. Despite our best charms he was really unfriendly. The manager was better though.
Not much atmosphere at all for a Friday evening. If it hadn't have been cold out we would have gone elsewhere.
We will not be returning.
Service fast, no time to eat. Entry with two poor shrimps and a salmon shank. Very expensive. Aperitif at 14 euros ! A shame !
Food was good, although we ordered a mix of plates (nibbles) to share as a starter (and also the crab cakes, as we especially wanted to try these) but, sadly, the bread (which was delicious) and olives arrived minus the crab cakes. Never mind (we thought), we will probably be served the crab cakes after the bread and olives......alas not....as our mains were served next. We were quite disappointed as we were looking forward to trying them.
It would also have been nice to have had a 'specials' board as I remember the menu on my last visit (over a year ago) being a little more comprehensive. Having said all of this, we did enjoy our meal....the food was full of flavour and was served hot.
