Chaplin
Loud, food was good. Good environment and good prices for area
Service was excellent. Our courses were timed perfectly. Everything on the Yakibuta platter was delicious, especially the pork belly. The Chaplin’s Ramen was flavorful and the stamina egg (a poached egg, soaked in sweet soy sauce) yummy! The lava cake dessert was a nice finish, but I will definitely try the matcha tiramisu on my next visit.
Wow, this place is a nightmare. Went for an afternoon lunch on a Saturday. They were blaring 80s hair metal for the entire hour we were there. Also, the concept is confusing... it’s supposed to be Asian, but I swear there was something that tasted like oregano on my chicken yakisoba. When ordering we asked if the waitress could recommend anything and she said no...which should have been a sign. The ramen was okay, but there are about 5 other places in DC better than this. Begging anyone who likes Japanese not to go here.
My reservation was at 7:30 and I was seated until 8:12. The hostess and manager were unresponsive and seemed annoyed when I inquired about my table. It was overcrowded and the service was extremely slow. Although the ramen is solid, I would not recommend.
Always delicious food, well balanced cocktails, great service. Definitely a repeat favorite!
The food was pretty good. I think the highlights of the restaurant are the ambiance, drinks, music, and great service. I would definitely go back for drinks and some Shumai or gyoza. Good vibe.
Ramen was really good. The drinks are very crafty too.
Very LOUD so hard to hear others at the table talk
food was incredibly underwhelming. don't call it ramen if there's no broth. and the noodles had NO flavor.
Very crowded small space loud hard to hear and talk ..ok food good staff
It's a fun, energetic place. Good food. It's very loud and the tables are close together, so don't go expecting a romantic, intimate date.
Very good food.
We were seated right next to a “private” event. It was so noisy that we couldn’t really enjoy our meal or hear one another talk. We left earlier than anticipated as a result. The food was good, but it would have been nice to be moved or seated elsewhere to enjoy it.
We waited 1 hour for our 8pm reservation.
Hostess wasn’t very nice but otherwise we had a great experience
Took my mom here for the first time and she loved it!!!
Copeland was an excellent waiter and extremely attentive. He made great suggestions and also was helpful in explaining the menu.
It has always been a great dining experience each time I’ve visited Chaplin. This visit was no exception, great food, exceptional service and a warm atmosphere(15 degrees outside).
Love the ramen at Chaplin. Gets pretty loud during peak times.
Chaplin has been a wonderful experience every time I go. The ramen is fairly priced and you get a great portion, and they have Happy Hour that runs until 7pm, which can be tough to find in DC.
Too noisy but the food was great!
Come here regularly. One of our favorite ramen shops in the city.
Our server Copeland was awesome!
Great ramen in an excessively loud atmosphere. Whatever you do, make sure you add a stamina egg!
As always, had a fantastic time here. Love the weekend happy hour and ramen is always a winner!
Madison was an awesome bartender!
The food is good but the music and the noise level is just SO high it's a shame. I like to hear myself talk when I go somewhere to eat, not feel like i'm in a club. It's really too bad. I'll go back when the outside terrace is open because I honestly can't deal with the noise. We had to yell across the table to have a conversation.
Our reservation wasn’t honored as the restaurant was packed. We waited 40 minutes for a table without any estimate from the host except saying they were extremely backed up. At first they wanted to seat us by the very crowded bar (I had sent a special note that it was my birthday and I wanted a good table location) and so we requested a change. The food is excellent but the whole restaurant is so loud, it’s like eating in a club. Maybe better for a quieter lunch!
We loved the drunken dumplings (pay day)! 😋
The music was too loud, but other than that... the food was great!
Chaplin's continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in DC! I went with a large group of work friends, and our server was kindly able to accommodate a couple extra people. The happy hour drinks and the ramen are really not to be missed. I had also written, when I made the reservation, that one of us was leaving our company. I didn't really expect anything to come out of it, but our server brought her out a nice dessert! Great place, will definitely continue frequenting.
Love this place
For new year’s eve
All around great experience! Quaint and quirky. Delicious Japanese food!
We went there for a new years Eve Birthday dinner. They were super nice had great food, new year's Eve party favors and even gave my husband a dessert with a candle for his birthday.
I’ve lived overseas for more than 10 years, so I can be critical when it comes to Japanese food. But I will say, Chaplin’s Ramen and Gyoza are amazing. Will make this a once a month stop for sure!
Love that the menu has specific vegan and vegetarian options. Love the spirit infused dumplings, many ramen choices and creative cocktails. The service was good both times I went. Love it here!
Great Ramen and Happy Hour specials!
Food was good. Not the best ramen in DC but holds its own. Service was unfriendly and we waited over an hour between our apps and our ramen because our waiter forgot to put the order in. And wouldn’t acknowledge the screw up or do anything to make it right. Won’t be in a hurry to be back.
Good appetizers. Inedible ramen. Drinks acceptable.
