I really liked the dumplings and Chaplin buns for the starter. The Chaplins ramen was really good as well. Great outdoor seating with heaters outside.
Great spot! High energy, amazing décor, really chic! I had some trouble getting a good cocktail as they all tasted a bit odd to me, but it was a great place. Even my kids loved their Ramen and the dumplings! Very fun, will be back!
My shumai dumplings were cold when they arrived. Honestly a minor step above the frozen dumplings at Trader Joe's. My friend seemed to enjoy her ramen though.
Perfect for date night! We were actually seated between two bumble dates 😂
Although a fairly short walk from our house, we had never sought out Chaplin, which has the reputation of being a place where stylish young people go to drink and be seen. But after hearing good word of mouth about the place, we decided to give it a try.
True to reputation, most of the clientele was a lot younger and more stylish then we are. (Our service was nonetheless fine.) And cocktails, which are very attractively priced for happy hour and quite good, are a centerpiece of the menu. Nevertheless, the Japanese cuisine is quite creditable. We had nicely fried dumplings as an appetizer, followed by very flavorful ramen (although the noodles could have been a bit firmer).
We ate outside on a unseasonably warm autumn evening, where we had a much quieter (and it appears, less cramped) experience than those inside the dining room.
Very good ramen and gyoza
The food is sooo delicious!!! I love it here 💖
Very delicious food and awesome craft cocktails. Must book in advance.
I frequent Chaplin's for ramen and/or drinks. I'm a huge fan of their Miso ramen. I typically get mine vegetarian or vegan (originally comes with ground pork) and add a spice bomb to take it up a notch. It never disappoints! Service is fast and friendly. I definitely suggest making a reservation as seats can be hard to come by. Also note, the majority of your party must be present before you can be seated.
Really enjoyed the food, I had the Stamina Spicy I believe and enthusiastically finished it. I'll probably order some add-ins next time. Also ordered the Chicken and Shrimp Shumai - very good. For the dessert we got the fried mochi with red bean paste and didn't like it. We were looking to order something small for the dessert but should have just gone for something else.
Overall would definitely go again.
Loved it!! The ramen was incredible and the drinks so good--an especially good deal for the happy hour prices.
Loved it. The drinks are spectacular & the food is authentic, flavorful & quality. Our bartenders/servers were so nice & attentive.
Chaplin's has a great vibe for a casual dinner date vibe. I love the ramen menu, I'd recommend the Chaplin A.S.S.
Chaplin's is great! This visit was the fourth or fifth time I've been there and it has yet to disappoint. The ramen is very tasty and reasonably priced, and the happy hour is awesome - half off a whole range of cocktails and beers that are well worth it. Would definitely recommend and will probably be going back soon :)
Food and service were great and reasonably priced, but really loud; even outside, other diners were too loud; it’s just that kind of scene I guess
Great outdoor seating options which is where I dined. Indoors is usually very loud and not conducive to conversation. Was not rushed to order or leave after finished either, much appreciated. They have a decent vegetarian ramen option (tan tan) and finally have veggie gyoza on the menu. They were tasty but a bit soft/mushy filling.
We waited 30 minutes for our table to be ready and then waited 30 more minutes before our waitress our order and then 30 more minutes before our appetizers came. The ramen was very good and most of the appetizers were as well, but the dumplings didn’t really taste like shrimp and the edamame was cold.
We had a semi- private table up stairs. I am a vegetarian and the options were top notch. I just got back from japan and didn’t think I would be happy with the ramen quality but low and behold.. I was. Great place great food 100% returning
Chaplin has always been one of my go-to restaurants. The happy hour is great - half off of drinks! I always get the Chaplin ramen. It's a staple on their menu and it has never disappointed! When I dine with others, they usually order the Stamina Spicy or the Chaplin A.S.S. These are both mild in spice and delicious.
The ramen was simply delicious. I recommend the Chaplin or the A.S.S. if you kind of enjoy a coconut curry feel. I think that the restaurant was a little noisy at times, but honestly, you could just sit outside and enjoy the D.C. weather. Loved it!
Chaplin is one of my favorite places in DC! The happy hour (including on weekends) is a great deal, the ramen always delivers, and the service is great. Will definitely be back soon.
Food and drinks are great. Good Vegan options. One bar downstairs and also another on the second floor
Chaplain's is by far the best restaurant for Ramen in D.C! If you don't get the chaplain A.S.S, then you aren't living right (unless your a vegetarian like my girlfriend who also loves their veggie Ramen)
Pork ribs were amazing! Everything else was okay. Great service!
The food was amazing, but it was very loud. I was seated inside on the second floor by a table of about 6 people that was yelling at each other the entire time. You could tell that they were drunk so we let it go for a while until one girl got super loud to the point where the entire restaurant thought she was making an announcement. At this point I complained to our waiter who was also the bartender and she did nothing, but as soon as this older guy that was sitting at the bar said something she decided to finally approach them. That did nothing and stayed loud until we left
Staff was great! Excellent drinks and a great buzz at both bars (upstairs and main floor). Don’t go here to have any conversations as the noise level is off the charts. Food was satisfactory at best. Go get a drink or two and then move on to somewhere else for food and socializing.
Fun drinks that are a great price during happy hour. Ramen was pretty good
Hard to talk at times as it was very noisy inside but overall a fantastic experience. We will definitely be going back.
Wonderful!!!!! One of our favorite places in DC! The service is great and the bartender is our favorite!!!!! Can’t wait to go back!
Even though I had a reservation it was about a half hour wait. Totally understandable, due to the heavy rain, but still it was uncomfortable to have seven people waiting in the doorway for half an hour. We watched as the manager and the head hostess got into a verbal “altercation” so that wasn’t really pleasant. Food came out quickly and was good, plus our waitress was very nice so that helped offset the bad start.
Chaplin’s NEVER disappoints!!! We live outside the city and always willing to make the drive in when we are in the mood for ramen. We have tried other places and nothing compares!
Delicious food! Ramen was among best I've had in DC!
The food was delicious and was quick to arrive once ordered. Wait staff was attentive as well as hostess. My party was late and Chaplin still held my reservation which was very considerate. We ate outside since the inside was very noisy, outdoor dining was perfect. Lots of fun cocktails. Will return to Chaplin
Chaplins does not disappoint. Try to get there before 7 pm for happy hour drinks, and then let your evening unfold. Service was attentive, informative and consistent. Kudos Chaplins for a great evening!
Server was amazing and the food was excellent! The kitchen was backed up and it took us awhile to get our food, which is why I gave the service 4 instead of 5 stars. Chaplin’s is still my favorite Ramen in DC.
Excellent atmosphere, food and $15 Johnny Walker Blue!
Best RAMEN in DC!
The atmosphere is adorable. Everyone was friendly & helpful. The ramen was very good, but the boozy dumplings stole the show. Extensive cocktail list & good choices of wine and beer. Overall very nice experience.
My wife and I wanted ramen and had a great meal here. The service was wonderful, and they do a good job with the ramen. Would come back!
I think one of the best Ramen in DC area. Good house kneaded noodles.
