We had a reservation for 4 people at 7:45. We didn't get seated until 30+ minutes after that time. The appetizer took 25+ minutes to arrive and our main course arrived 90+ minutes after the reservation. The server was apologetic, but they need some help as they clearly are not on top of their game. Food was good, but we basically ordered egg rolls, edamame, and ramen - it's not that complicated, particularly at this price point.
Great food and drinks! It is a small place so I highly recommend that you make a reservation otherwise you might have to wait a while.
LOVED the ambiance. The food was phenomenal and reasonably priced. The waiter was repugnant however, sadly. I’d go back in a heartbeat.
Food has amazing quality and the drinks too. The service was really good....taking into consideration a lot of details because it's was cold (I was sitting outside and the kitchen was a little bit late....the waiter and the food were amazing!
The food was good, but they cram a lot of tables into a small space, so you are practically eating with strangers. This is not the place to go if you want to have a private conversation. But this place as very good ramen soup.
I’m addicted to this place.
Great food, good value. Service was a bit slow, possibly because we had a group of 7 so gratuity was already included. Wasn’t worth 20% simply based on the lack of speed and attention from our server. However, I’ve been to chaplins many times and it’s a great restaurant.
Good food and excellent beer on tap. Service was excellent. But the noise made by the young hipsters was appalling. And the fact that they tried to seat three of us on a two-top turned side ways suggests that they cater mostly to people who are willing to put up with that sort of thing. They were more than accommodating when I pointed out we were adults and would not sit like children at the kiddy table they were preparing. Particularly when another group of three were sitting comfortably at a four top. Small things like this leave an impression.
This is truly one of my favorite restaurants in DC. The ramen is amazing, the cocktails are interesting and delicious, and it’s a great deal! As always, the service was attentive, quick, and friendly.
It also doesn’t hurt that they do happy hour every day, including weekends.
I can’t recommend this place enough.
We were sat upstairs where there weren't any other customers. Nobody came to even offer us water for 30 minutes. We got tired of being ignored. Upon exiting, we told the hostess that we waited without any service and she didn't respond to us.
The forgot our food but they comped half of it. Food was great, but we waited 1 hour and 45 minutes to get it.
It is very noisy, the wine we wanted was not available, and we have been notified about that only 20 min later, the food was fine.
I usually always love this place but, this past Saturday was the first time I walked away feeling disappointed. The whiskey dumplings were cold and the chicken in my Chaplin A.S.S. was like rubber. I was soooo bummed as this joint is one of my favorite spots.
I was enjoy my experience at Chaplin’s.
Food was great and our server Charlotte was awesome! Will he back.
They made my wife's birthday amazing!
It took 15 minutes just for out server to take our order. The coffee took 14, and the untimely manner we received our food in general was sub-par. Our server also lacked a significant amount of enthusiasm and friendliness. 👎🏻
Delicious food, knowledgeable staff, great service! Will definitely return soon!
AmazIng happy hour!
Lighting was uncomfortably dim tonight, have always had a nice meal at Chaplin’s but tonight was below par in most ways.
Food was really good, but the service wasn’t great. Our waiter was very inattentive, and was hard to get a hold of when we needed them. It was also soooo hot in the restaurant, which was not ideal for eating ramen in the summer.
The food was terrible and my date was very dissatisfied.
This was my second visit to Chaplin. I really enjoyed my previous visit so I returned for a second time. We sat on the patio though it was hot. It was Restaurant Week so the wait staff seemed very busy. I’m guessing they might have been short staffed. Anyway, I enjoyed my entree but my friend, who is vegetarian, had a vegetable entree that was quite bland. When desserts were served, the ice cream was largely melted and I noticed that others were getting the same ice cream soup. The waiters were nice but clearly overwhelmed. I’m not sure if I’ll go back again.
Great drinks and the bartender was amazing! Will be back.
Food and drinks were great. Patrons right behind us - all friends of the bartender/ server - were obnoxiously loud. This was the 2nd time I've been to Chaplain's for a sit down dinner w reservations and was placed next to a rowdy group of +10 who were there to party, no dine.
Loved the personal attentive service and the overall casual vibe. Also got great explanations about unfamiliar dishes. Not really competent in Japanese food but everything was very good. Spicy and delicious Bloody Mary
Waiter was fantastic in helping my kids and me navigate a range of allergy and dietary issues
We had a disappointing experience here. I called ahead to note it was friends birthday and to ask if they could do a little something special. I was told they would bring out a dessert for her. We ordered appetizers that never came and when our dinner arrived the waitress didn’t even bother to ask if we had received them. When we were done with dinner the waitress just brought us our check, my friend never received the birthday dessert. Between that and the appetizers we did not have an enjoyable experience.
Air-conditioning is broken, very hot in the restaurant and no indicator when it will be fixed. Needs a structural solution given DC Weather. Will come back when it has cooled down.
We sat outside and had a great time with the fun drinks and delicious food!
Chaplin deserves a second trip. It was our first time there and we were not sure what was best to order or how many dishes were enough. The starters turned out to be very good, the entree okay but not great. The table next to us order the sampler platter and said they were happy with their choice. We'll certainly give it another try.
Second time here, and still love the place. Food was just as good as last time; we shared edamame and shumai, then had a bowl of ramen and a yakisoba. However, service was spotty. Our server was super-nice, but maybe not well trained. We found we had to track him down when we needed something (even if he was passing by), and one request seemed to be totally forgotten. But all-in-all, a good experience.
I took my brand new puppy to Chaplin's patio for a hopeful dog-friendly dining experience and had all expectations exceeded. I was nervous with this being my dog's first restaurant trip, and in my rush, forgot to pack her water bowl. When I arrived, the server proactively brought out a lil doggy bowl perfect for her petite size with lil paw marks on it for her. I looked around patio and saw doggy bowls of all sizes for other furry guests. The server didn't mind when she accidentally spilled the bowl and quickly brought her a refill of water. Their welcoming dog ambiance aside, the food is DELICIOUS. The service is prompt. The decor is hipster-chic. You will not be disappointed.
Our server was outstanding. He alerted us to happy hour ending, was attentive and gave us a complimentary dessert to help us celebrate our friend’s work promotion. Excellent service.
The venue is VERY loud inside and the ac wasn’t really working well.
Here for a quick bite and it was excellent. Savory pork dumplings injected with bourbon and a delicious chicken salad. Service attentive and pleasant. Very reasonable pricing.
Amazing as always
Consistently excellent, service, food, wine & cocktails.
Great ramen and cocktails. My only complaint was that the restaurant was very loud.
Food was delicious and the service at the bar was as great. Highly recommend the drunken dumplings
