Outstanding as always. Great food, superb service. Had a lovely anniversary dinner. The jugged hare starter is fantastic, the venison cooked to perfection. Not cheap but worth every penny. Have been here the or for times before, and will be back again.

My wife and I drove in our new Tesla to have lunch. The manager saw us arrive and kindly switched on the Tesla destination chargers so that we could top up the battery whilst enjoying an excellent lunch. The food, wine and service were all superb as usual. The beef cheek main course was particularly good.

Menu offers great choice and the seafood selection is very good. Presentation of food is as good as the taste combinations. The octopus starter is a must (even with the supplement). The wine list is extensive and offers some real choice at all price levels. My wife and I normally dine at Chapter One a couple of times a year but at this price for this quality we will be there more often.

Superb food . Outstanding service ,attentive but not intrusive. Wonderful atmosphere and we could not fault it on any front . It is a destination restaurant yet it manages to be sophisticated but never stuffy . We will return.

One of the biggest surprise for me to find this high quality restaurant SE London.

Plate balance and the taste & smell are outstanding. Service staff and expecially maitre d' the is extra-ordinary. We will come back just because of him again!

When the license will come for the open area, we will come more often to have our cigar with a double espresso.

The service was excellent!
The food was good except for the fillet steak which was chewy.
Very loud customers in the bar and the restaurant detracted from the enjoyment of our lunch.
Overall pretty good if not a little pretentious.

The food was excellent, the venison was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and the Josper grilled potatoes have an amazing flavour. The venue is very nice, comfortable and noise levels are good. Service was very good, with the servers joining in with the mood at the table. Would definitely recommend this restaurant although it is quite pricey.

Always reliable for a high standard meal, great value 3 course Sunday lunch. Classic dishes cooked well.
There are always several small touches at this venue that signify that this is a fine dining, yet not stuffy, establishment

The Sunday lunch was good (my wife especially enjoyed it) however I feel the standard of food has dropped from that experienced earlier. The wine list on the other hand was a different matter, with £15 for a glass of bog-standard Merlot. Don’t even think of asking for something a little better. The approach now appears to be one of charging a reasonable price for reasonable food but making extortionate charges for drinks on the basis that most customers are unwilling to say no to the sommelier. General report: could do better.

In my opinion I did not think the music being played suited Chapter One, something more mellow /classical would be better suited.

Lovely place to enjoy a meal with friends and family. The staff are attentive and friendly, the food presented well. It is a place to try dishes that are different, everything we had we all enjoyed. It was my birthday like so many others in the restaurant, you were given a mini cake with candle, such a nice touch.

Good food and service but ambience low key as only one third full. Admittedly it was a Tuesday night but £50 for set three courses plus £18 extra if you wanted a steak with chips and beans doesn’t help. Should give the choice of 2 courses only otherwise too expensive for a mis week meal.

Been a convert to Chapter One for more than 15 years now BUT tide has changed and the good vibe is gone unfortunately !! Very very noisy, sloppy waitressing, disappointing dishes... even the bread was not good .. they try to keep up appearances but you can tell quality and class are gone . I’ve striken it off my list now, won’t be back !
Bread is now dumped on the table and not offered for choi e anymore (and it was not even fresh), waiters try to be funny when they should be classy, they fold your napkin when you leave the table if they have the time but they’d much rather congregate round the reception area and chat. Foie gras served without toasted brioche, monkfish and venison were good but venison's pithiviers was overkill. Chocolate marquise was sickening (and I love chocolate! ) but would need crème anglaise rather than off the mark coffee ice cream. And do something about that noise, we had to shout to make ourselves heard ... bring back soft furnishing, this noise was very uncomfortable ! All in all standards have definitely gone they clearly want to become casual rather than fine dining ... hence the Brasserie bit ! Sorry not a fan anymore !

The overall experience was excellent, a very good way to celebrate a birthday.
Staff very attentive and quality of food very high. Only criticism is a member of our party requested a large glass of red wine. Accepted with out query the recommendation of the waiter. Was an excellent wine but we were charged 32.50 for the glass. Turned out it was one of the most expensive reds on the list!!
The guest who is not a wine expert was very embarrassed as all they thought they were ordering was a house type red. Did take up with restaurant but the argument was it had been agreed with the waiter who had apparently asked would they like a good quality wine. Answer was of course yes, not meaning something from the connoisseur list. Just feel the waiter should have made certain the diner appreciated the high cost of the glass. Felt he was more focused on getting a substantial sale. This took some of the glitz of the evening.

Chapter one has a great reputation in thr local area but it is living on past glories. Out of the three dishes I had only one was exceptional, the cod main while the pudding was underwelming. But was the service which was the most disappointing. The first point of contact where we left our coats was excellent but no one lived up to his standards. We were left along time before ordering and then only told the monkfish was off the table. No body refilled the water and when it came to play we had to wait so long we almost walked out. We felt very isolated and neglected. In visits gone by it has always been the staff and atmosphere that has set this restaurant aside from others but no this is lacking too. I used to be really excited when we booked but not any more.

It was disappointing that the kitchen had run out of monk fish at 7.15pm on a Saturday evening.
Our table was at 6.45pm so it wasn't as if we were towards the end of service.
We did have to request to order drinks and food and the bill. It felt that perhaps they were a little understaffed.
I have eaten here numerous times and haven't felt this before nor has the kitchen run out of items before. It was a little disappointing as I had brought friends who hadn't been to Chapter one before and I wanted them to see it at it's best

We were recommended Chapter One by a friend and was really looking forward to it after reading some great reviews. The restaurant itself it lovely, modern, bright and I couldn't fault the service. The manager took the time to welcome us in and talk to us before leaving. The waiting staff were polite and very helpful. I unfortunately just felt a little disappointed with the food. I chose the goats cheese starter with deep fried courgette flower, but didnt expect the cheese to be melted within the batter and I found it all quite sickly. My lamb main was ok, but the rump part was a bit fatty and I found the remaining elements just a bit wet. The pressed shoulder was nice. My husband liked his arancini starter and most of the grouse main course but we both felt that it wasn't worth the money we paid. My husband had dessert, which he said was delicious but, having been disappointed with the first two courses I chose to miss dessert. I ordered an americano instead, but it was served in an almost espresso sized cup and the coffee was so strong I couldn't drink it. We were given some little petit four at the end, which was a nice touch. We may return at some point, but perhaps to try the Brasserie part.
