Chapter One
At Chapter One, we believe that offering value for money is just as important as award-winning food. Three courses at dinner is £39.95, for lunch is £19.95 and we also offer a less formal brasserie menu available Monday – Saturday lunchtimes. On a Sunday evening you can enjoy the a la carte menu for just £34.95 – the perfect way to round off your weekend.
What a place. Had such great service and we were truly spoilt we attended for an early Valentine's Day celebration. We were treated with true excellence. I can not recommend this place enough. I loved every minute of it and would definitely be going back
Food was excellent - however the service was not good. Fairly attentive but waiters did not know who had ordered what - poor for a restaurant of this standing. Work going on outside somewhat detracted from the appearance (and accessibility as we had a wheelchair user with us). Bar staff were inexperienced, not very friendly and pre-lunch drinks were served two but two and not all together.
Lovely place and service mostly good.
However the menu has fewer veggie options.
Food over seasoned. Almost inedible.
I will add that the wine selection is excellent.
Our favourite restaurant. Everything is just perfect.
Fantastic meal amd as usual very good service. Our guests enjoyed themselves. Thank you Chapter One
Had a lovely meal at Chapter 1. Staff were very courteous and didn't rush you. Will certainly recommend this restaurant to friends.
Tried Chapter One for the first time but not sure why it look so long as it’s conveniently located to me and it was absolutely amazing! Went for lunch to celebrate my husband’s birthday and the service was lovely, not too pushy and friendly! My husband even got a complimentary birthday cupcake which was unexpected and a nice touch. Top compliments to the chef, food was amazing on the menu du jour.
Excellant food and service, will certainly return again
chapter one has had a revamp. it looks very different and i like it.
the menu has changed too and is a little more comprehensive. some lovely dishes and some quite different ones. lovey staff. both joe and yakep were wonderfully helpful.
certainly worth a visit.
The expectation is high at this price point. The food was very good and the staff were professional and attentive. The menu and wine list presented reasonable value given the high quality. The decor and ambience is less impressive. Lighting in the restaurant area is too bright and the layout has a 'canteen' shape and feel. The hard surfaces and sparce decor means that sounds soon become rather loud as acoustically there is nothing to dampen it. A busy evening would make conversation difficult against the background noise level.
Outstanding food and great service.
Excellent Sunday Lunch with my family for my birthday. The quality of the food was first class and the wines we chose was also very good at a reasonable cost. Service was impeccable. As it was my birthday the restaurant also provide a small cake as a surprise.
Ordered ribeye steaks for myself and daughter but served different type of steaks. No explanation or apologies.
Bread inferior to previous visits.
Service slow
No coats taken, waiters acted like they were doing us a favour and service very slow throughout . The main waiter yawned the entire way through service! Food ok but husbands streak was poor. Extremely poor kids menu... steak and 4 chips served in a bowl!! At age 8 and 12 I think they can manage a plate! And their selection of ice cream consisted of vanilla or vanilla!! My daughter was so disappointed. I think for £14 a child they could do better. This said we still had an enjoyable time, the younger, French waiters were nice. The place looks prettier since the revamp but we won’t be rushing back.
The food, service, decor etc was absolutely amazing. We had a wonderful time. The only complaint was that the temperature in the room was a little chilly.
We had lunch as a birthday treat. Food very good as usual.
An excellent lunch in the newly refurbished restaurant. The staff were very attentive as usual.
A wonderful lunch. Staff friendly and efficient. Food delicious. Very welcoming
Food lovely as per normal, but the restaurant was very chilly.
We went for the tasting menu to celebrate Burns Night and as always the food was superb. The restaurant is undergoing some changes and so far its looking good, much brighter however did notice that the music was a little louder than usual.
Regular diner here and food is always delicious!
Was looking forward to seeing the renovation.
Loved the new chairs and paint colour, not sure the “feature” wall fitted in with the decor, as was a very simple, plain feature wall!
Great meal although service was rushed. Had el3 courses in 1 hour 10 mins. Not enough of a gap between courses. Other than that food was great.
Really busy restaurant with great atmosphere. Food was stunning. Staff very attentive. Booked to come back for birthday celebration later in the year.
Shame as the restaurant on the whole is very good. Our experience this time was arriving to a swearing customer arguing with the manager. Staff at reception were more interested it that than us. Then at the table the service was really hit and miss. 10 mins to order drinks then intermittent for the rest of the dinner. Food was really good as usual not the room was cold. Buzzing atmosphere but limited decor in the main dining area. Consider it’s quite expensive they could do much better.
Unfortunately we found the whole evening quite chaotic.
We waited some while before our order was taken as it was a busy evening and it seemed only X1 member of staff was taking dinner orders.
Miss-information given by the waiting staff regarding the menu in particular the dessert/cheese menu. When cheese trolley arrived - the waiter serving the cheese was very helpful and knowledgeable.
It was not clear that the Burn's menu was only on offer if the whole table ordered & therefore we had at least X2 of our party disappointed.
Drink orders did not arrive on at least x4 occasions and waiting staff needed to be reminded.
We specifically ordered X2 surprise birthday cup cakes and X1 congratulations - X3 birthday cup cakes arrived!
I received a phone call from Chapter One whilst sitting at the table in the restaurant!
When the food arrived it was very good & we all loved the bagpipes!
When the bill was presented it was incorrect and had to be re-presented by an embarrassed and apologetic member of staff.
Excellent... the best really and excellent value. Noise was a little high but my partner loved the place n food. It was his first time there n thought ambience was brilliant except as stated noise was a little high.
Attentive staff, excellent service and the food was outstanding.
One of my favourite restaurants! Love the food and setting!
Only negative is that whenever I visit they always forget to give me petit fours! Super annoying as they are delicious!
Am a member of the loyalty club and don’t understand why they have one, as can’t remember the last time then did an offer or an event?
Christmas presents from both of us
Chapter One is great for a special occasion in my opinion. A little bit pricey for everyday dining. We had a really lovely meal - all 3 courses were great and the wine very good. Lovely, efficient service and nice surroundings. Do recommend.
Liked the bar service was good and friendly. The food was absolutely superb a really first class meal. I would recommend the venison
The service in the restaurant was very slow and not the best although everyone was very pleasant
Great celebratory meal for my son's 18th birthday...attentive staff and very friendly... thank you. Took our own cake which was not a problem
Always been our favourite restaurant however since new ownership we were very disappointed.
Service was so bad.
Waited 45 minutes to order our starters and I had to make eye contact with one of the waiters.
I had to pour our own wine on several occasions.
We ordered an extra vegetable but didn’t get it although we were charged for it.
At £110.00 per head which we expected to pay both our friends and ourselves were very disappointed.
Would we go back!!
Unfortunately no we wouldn’t.
So sad to loose such a lovely restaurant.
Michael in Sidcup 😔😔
As usual, excellent food and menu choice. Excellent easy to understand wine list. 1st class friendly service. Very good value for money
Yet another very good lunch at Chapter One. We shall return in due course.
Food was very good but service could’ve been better. Although waiters were friendly and polite, we had to pour our own water and wine as well as having to wait for a little while before our order was taken.
Otherwise it was a pleasant experience.
Sad Xmas tree out front, half the lights not on - shouldn’t have bothered - looked poor. Generally good. Service always a bit off - not very attentive. Food good - starter of ducks breast and soft boiled egg was odd - served at room temp. Runny cold boiled egg? Didn’t do it for me. Every one else in party enjoyed theirs. Cheese supplement not worth it - tiny portions of cheese and not particularly interesting. Did not split bill as requested during evening.
Overall good night but for cost would expect all round better experience.
Table for 4 for my partners birthday and a friends wedding anniversary. They hadnt eaten here before despite us telling them to come with for years... They were glad they made it at last.
We went into the bar for pre meal cocktail and weren't rushed to take our table.
Once seated we took our time over the menu as the choice was fabulous.
All our plates were presented beautifully and equally delicious.
Service was very attentive but not overpowering.
Overall, as a fan of fine dining, Chapter One is the best restaurant for miles.
We went for husband & daughter's joint birthday. Everything was top notch. Service was excellent. The brasserie menu was imaginative, with a really good vegetarian selection. We had a later sitting, on a busy evening, but the staff were solicitous and unhurried. There were the birthday cupcakes at the end, which is always a nice touch.
Our experience at Chapter One was a memorable one but not for all the right reasons. Very good food and a great ambience. However, the service let it down and we left quite disappointed.
