I had read a few reviews prior to going, some of which that weren't overly complementary, but I was pleasantly surprised. My partner & I went with our 14 month daughter to sample the Sunday roast which I must say was really good and service was pretty quick.
I would say that dishes are at the pricier end compared with other restaurants in the area, but overall we enjoyed it and would go back.
Nice food. Steak a little fatty and service a bit slow. Very quiet for weekend.
As occasional supporters of CHARLOTTES W5 my wife and I wondered if new chefs had been taken onboard by this local 'chain' here in Ealing. A revelation took place across our otherwise time-strapped lunch date at this Ealing centre restaurant in the new-ish Dickens Yard development. Time only for one Main Course each - an absolutely faultless result between Sea Bass on a bed of wild mushrooms and a perfectly slow-braised steak with rich, rich 'jus' as the basis for its sauce, plus a braised carrot and the classiest creme de pommes de terre that I've ever encountered. If this is bistro food - so let it be! It struck both of us that Charlottes W5 had been stepping up its game recently. Really memorable dishes, both of them, preceded simply by a pre-starter of a good Focaccia with a garlic mayonnaise. (Keep that one classic, though, simply with a good peppery olive oil 'dunk'.)
Cost for 2? Under £46 .. Top VFM, I'd say!
Was last there in January- we were very disappointed to see the same menu still in place. Winter greens, turnip, Jerusalem artichokes etc are hardly seasonal.
The service was a little too officious and when we asked for the bill, we waited 20 mins for it to arrive (despite the restaurant being very quiet)
Nice relaxed feel to the place. Food was good. Mackerel starter and flat iron chicken mains particularly good. Service OK. Would definitely recommend.
We had a very nice table outside on the patio. Starter, main course and dessert was very good as were the drinks. We took advantage of the "Early Dinner Offer" which is from 5.30 to 7.00pm and slightly cheaper than "a la carte". Very pleasant atmosphere all round.
Really delicious meal, had the mackerel ceaser salad starter, and a succulent flavourful flat iron chicken main which was generous in portion, satsuma curd and meringue desert with exquisite shortbread. We got the lunch set menu and it was well worth the money, definitely going back. We sat outside and it really is a little oasis away from the main broadway, however I'm sure if the weather was not as fine you would be equally happy in the conservatory or inside, as both are aesthetically pleasing areas to take lunch 😁
Disappointing - food good but very abrupt grumpy waitress .
Delicious brunch, good friendly service from a welcome edition to ealings local restaurant scene.
Fantastic location and amazing to sit out on a nice summers evening.
Great atmosphere and menu! Loads of gluten free options
I usually love Charlottes, but the food on Saturday was not up to standard at all. We ordered a chicken ceaser salad and it was cobbled together with the coronation chicken (one of their starters) instead of the usual grilled chicken that is served with the salad. It was clear the staff were distracted, and we paid full wack for something where the flavours didn't even go together. We go to Charlottes a lot, and I hope that this was just a one off bad experience and it wont start a pattern as it is usually such a delight to eat there and I look forward to it... I think that is why I was so disappointed on Saturday as I wish I had gone to another restaurant.
A really nice place with a great vibe... only negative is that they do not have a license to keep the patio open until closing.
Came for cocktails and nibbles. Overpriced for what you get. Unfortunately, lots of style but not very much substance. Cocktails were incredibly weak (Margarita and Paulina) didn’t even taste like they had a full measure in them. Very disappointing considering how much they charged for them!
Quiet on monday made for a slightly unusual experience but all good.
Nothing was too much trouble and we really challenged them. We were a group of 6 that dropped to 5. Some of us ate and others only had a coffee. Everything was lovely and we felt very welcomed and not rushed.
Went for brunch, poached eggs turned up raw so sent it back. Received another which was ok. Avocado was clearly kept in fridge so eggs were cold by the time it was brought or. No apology and waitress behaved as those customers were an incovenice. At £9.50 per dish it wasn’t cheap and we expected more. Will never go back and absolutely would not recommend.
A lovely sunny spot for a Saturday brunch. Service was a little haphazard but got there in the end. Food was ok but not outstanding with the quantity of the French toast with bacon and egg being a little disappointing. In short a good location with average service and food.
Trendy Ealing eatery which is tastefully designed and has a good atmosphere. The 3 course set meal with drink is particularly good value for money. The artichoke salad to start is divine, the sea bass is good but the sauce is a little too creamy for my liking. Pear and quince crumble with pouring custard finished the meal well - lovely crunchy crumble topping with slightly spiced sticky fruit underneath. I'd definitely recommend for a meal out.
Staff was not welcoming or knowledgeable about the dishes.
Few items on the menu were not available but we were not told of this when we sat down.
While there, we saw a table of four whom sat down and was ready to order but later walked out. We assumed this may be because when they comes to order, items were not available but this could have been avoided had staff been proactive and more knowledgeable.
Unfortunately this wasn’t our best experience. We went for a Father’s Day lunch & almost everything went wrong. They got a lot of our order wrong, the food was bland, not cooked well (undercooked steak & overcomes chicken). The staff were great, replaced our steak and tried hard to rectify the mistakes, but it wasn’t a pleasant lunch food wise. It cost me £216 and I felt hungry and dissatisfied afterwards.
Service extremely slow, food needs to improve. Steak left lot to be desired for.
Dessert - Sticky Toffee Pudding was good!!
Not value for money in summary. Disappointed.
Great venue, lovely food, just was let down by terrible service!!!
Disappointing meal. Menu choice was limited with nothing interesting or exciting on the menu. Ended up having Caesar salad myself and my wife had the seabed (pretty pedestrian choices). However it was the service that disappointed us most of all. They brought our main out before our starter and so I am fairly sure our mains sat under the heat lamp for 20 minutes or so. For not the first time, the excuse we received was 'sorry - the staff who served you was in training' - this seems to be a regular excuse/theme for this restaurant.. Maybe they need to work on retaining their staff otherwise they are going to continue hemorrhage customers (like us) whose experiences seem to get worse each time we go...
Unfortunately, we did not have a pleasant experience at your restaurant. The chips were dry and hard and seemed to be sat on a hot plate for many hours. The fish was not seasoned and overall all our food was very bland. Not enough vegetarian options.
The early diner deal offers great value for great food and the Libyan red that was recommended proved to be outstanding.
Food was terrible. Had the flat iron chicken that was incredibly bland and tasteless. It’s gone downhill.
Great food and the staff were politely unfazed when half our group were unable to get to Ealing due to the rain!
Attentive staff, polite and food arrived swiftly.
I have been going to Charlotte's W5 ever since it's opened, and whilst I have always loved the ambiance the service, whilst always friendly, has been hit and miss due to its usual slowness, and the food has varied heavily in quality. The food on this occasion, however, was outstanding. Granted, I tried dishes that I had not previously had (fish for both a starter and a main), however, with the 50+ times I have dined here I can only imagine the kitchen has taken a significant step forward to up the stakes! Thank you, Charlotte's W5. An outstanding experience from start to finish!
Nice place , good service and food , nice selection of drinks. Not mind blowing but good quality and good value
Service needs to improve before I’d recommend : unfriendly staff and very slow to address our table (it wasn’t busy) Food was surprisingly okay though.
Great food and atmosphere. Staff a bit slow on more than one occasion.
Service, location, ambience are best and excellent!
Food is good, but definitely has room for improvement. Poached eggs on Avocado with chilli, eggs were smaller than anticipated, needs flavour and needs to have a wow factor!
Location is fab! So once good improves it will be one the best places to eat in Ealing.
Good location in Ealing - service was good...
Lovely looking restaurant. Pretty quiet in there so bit strange that they sat 2 of us right next to another table for 2 when there were loads of empty tables around. Food was tasty, although my Caesars salad had too much dressing. Service good but a bit abrupt at times and few smiles. Enjoyable nonetheless. Problem with ladies loo though with no water coming out of taps! That definitely needs sorting.
Birthday supper - was lovely
Sadly, absolutely horrendous service from waiters. Not only was our allocated waiter rude and sharp, other waiters were completely unapproachable, especially towards my Grandmother when she asked for directions to the toilets. I was truly appalled. The food isn’t anything above standard. I had opted for a somewhat dire cauliflower and broccoli dish and somehow the cauliflower was burnt and chewy. Only visit if you’re down for rude service, overpriced fries served in saucepans and mortgage inducing prices. Ps don’t ask for sauce or salt and pepper - the servers will hate you even more.
we've been a number of times to Charlotte's W5 and I'm afraid to say this was by far the most disappointing visit - which is a great shame as it is normally such a good restaurant, arguably the best one in Ealing. Our main issue is that we both ordered steak: my wife's sirloin was inedible, so tough she could hardly cut it. I could not believe it has been allowed through the pass. My ribeye was OK, though no more than that. In fairness the manager did handle it well and did not charge for the steak but we were shocked when he admitted they were having problems with the quality of the meat they were getting, but if that's the case they should look to a new supplier. We were told by one of the waiting staff that at least one other customer that evening had sent back their steak. The waiting staff were very good but I did get the impression the restaurant was a bit short staffed that night. I think we'd need a bit of persuading before we return.
Amazing food and service for my wife’s birthday
We enjoyed our meal on the whole, although my husband found the skin on his chicken too salty for his taste (the skin on my guinea fowl was also salty, but I like it that way) and I would have welcomed less kale and more parsnip puree on my dish. Service to start with was rather brusque even though the restaurant wasn't that busy - the waiter taking our order had an off-hand manner and the waitress who brought our drinks put them down on the table without saying a word and was already turning away as she did so. The waiter did however warm up a bit as the meal went on, and a friendlier waitress brought our food. However it was a marked contrast to the super friendly service we used to get in Charlotte's Place.
