I don't like writing this review but surprisingly our experience on Friday night wasn't great. I've had lovely meals with you before, so am allowing for it to be an "off"night!
Service not amazing, although our waiter was lovely, just the whole restaurant did not have the feel of a "well oiled machine".
The cocktails and wine were delicious, so definitely credit where credit's due!
The food? Quite nice. Had to send back the bavette steak as both were blue (we asked for rare). They took a long time to be redone (despite my pleading for them to just cook those steaks a bit more, they gave us new ones)....the new ones were still a bit blue so had to leave some of it. Apparently the chef was swearing in the kitchen when they had to be redone.
Also - sides - both chips and side salad were underseasoned - very unusual for a dressing to be so unsalted! Watercress and tomato that came with steak was not dressed (a mistake perhaps? Although the second versions were also not dressed) as indicated on the menu so therefore v boring..
And last niggle - chips came on a tiny china plate, not even side plate sized, very mean...and the salad came in a tiny metal skillet?! Side salads should be in BOWLS!!!
I hate to be pernickerty but I guess you might prefer that to me just not coming again - often it's those little details that put people off a restaurant.
We had been to Cote the night before and I hate to say it but it was better in all ways...I hate to say that because I know you pitch yourself higher than that...but it really was better.
Really hope Charlotte's W5 succeeds...it could be a great neighbourhood place.
The waiter was very accommodating when we requested a table inside rather than the conservatory, which we appreciated, since it was VERY noisy in the conservatory and we could not hear each other talk.
Unfortunately however we found our waitress at the table a little rude, and felt as if we were a bit of a nuisance when we asked if we could have a little longer to look at the menu. We had only been sat down for 2 minutes before she came to ask if we were ready to order! When we then said we needed more time she disappeared for a long time and we had to ask to order. The foccacia bread that we had ordered also appeared to be forgotten since we had to ask for that when all of the other starters had come out.
The food overall was very tasty, but somewhat overpriced. 2 mushrooms for £3!?
A nice evening, but disappointed in particular by the service we received at the table and the price.
Delicious food and very good service. Felt like the sides could be a bit bigger but ultimately happy with the food.
Regretfully, it was a poor birthday experience at Charlotte’s this time. We ordered several of the roasts, and the Yorkshire puddings were pretty dreadful. We raised this with our waiter, who never returned with any feedback or apology with the kitchen.
Really nice food and enjoyed the evening. One big negative however - was very disappointed that there was a bottle of wine for £57 on our bill when we’d actually only had a £23 bottle. My husband would have paid the bill had I not checked it as he didn’t choose the wine so had no idea what I’d picked. The bill was amended with no quibble but the waitress seemed quite obtuse about it when I asked how the mistake happened. I’d suggest that diners check their bills closely before paying.
Having eaten here several times before and left god reviews, this visit was disappointing.
Service in past had been patchy but on last visit was excellent and unobtrusive. Great cocktails, good food (though my main was the size of a starter) and good selection of wines.
I come here often as it is next to my flat. Food is hit and miss. Last time, sadly, we were served cold meat at when we sent it back and it was just reheated/overcooked and served again. Some of the managers are not the best at customer service/service recovery. Our Easter lunch was ruined and we still paid £30 in service charge, which doesn't matter but it shows that management is out of touch.
Excellent food but portion sizes are very small
Upmarket aspirations. Falls short on food and value for money. With an hour and a half table slot don't engage in a conversation before you order some food as you will be subtly notified that you are wasting their time.
Need to work on the menu. Imaginative in concept but fails to follow through with taste. Good efficient staff.
Nice family friendly restaurant.
Great venue with good food options. Been here a number of times and but most recently came here on Mothers day with a rather pinickety mother and my newborn baby. They were more than accommodating with the buggy/carrycot contraption and didn't make us feel like a pain which some restaurants do! Unfortunately there was a delay in seating us and they gave us a free bottle of prosecco! When we ordered my cousin spilt her drink all over her food and they replaced the whole plate no questions asked.
All in all - great experience even with the delay in seating us and my mother had a fabulous time
We were seated in front of the kitchen so had the pleasure of listening to the chef barking orders the entire meal. I had requested a seat in the greenhouse area at time of booking. On arrival at our table we asked if they had seating elsewhere as it was obviously loud and we were told they did not despite there being several empty tables. I understand it is busy on mother's day and they have other bookings, but would suggest to the management that they recognise the tables they have set up in front of the service area is unacceptable for diners. Aside from the chef it is the area where waiters congregate which adds nothing to the ambience of the venue.
We liked visiting Charlotte's Place over many years. This was our first visit to Charlotte's W5 and our experience was below expectations. The food was OK, the celeriac and the haddock starters in particular were good, the quince crumble desert was not good.
The main failure was the lack of coordination between kitchen service and bar service. Wine ordered to accompany fish starter arrived after starter finished, wine ordered to accompany meat course arrived at same time as coffee, the latter being served before desert!
Really tasty chicken caesar salad. The service was a little slow given how quiet it was but the food was tasty.
Set menu was fantastic value. Food just missed being outstanding, bacon over cooked, just too much cream with fish, granita a bit bland (though sticky toffee pudding was superb)
Great staff. Good ambience. The poultry and fish were a bit dry for our taste. However, go and try for yourself.
Mains and drinks were good, but one of the desserts was inedible. We did receive complimentary desserts an an apology and the manager on duty was great but the waiters were rude and unhelpful. Overall the service was inattentive, we had to ask to order drinks and food, asked for condiments which never arrived and received attitude from the waitress who hadn’t spoke a word to us all evening, when we didn’t pay the entire OPTIONAL service charge of which she didn’t deserve any. Wouldn’t return based on this and should have listened to the other reviews which mainly focus on the bad service. It’s a shame as it has potential and had a good atmosphere but it’s pricey and you expect good service when you’re paying over the odds. The staff need more training!
We are regulars here and always enjoy a fab dining experience.
Great dinner and service at Charlotte’s! We really enjoyed the food and thanks for fitting us in.
Lovely food and service. Just small portions and pricey.
A super menu, with an interesting selection of drinks, made our Sunday night visit an excellent way to round off the weekend!
Great food, service and setting - would definitely recommend for a brunch with friends/family.
Top class restaurant with brilliant staff and unbelieveable food. What's not to love? :)
This simply might not be a place for me...but the menu is tempting...plenty of simple dishes and sides
A great great beverage programme and wine list...show me anyplace else in the area with Gruner and Chinon by the glass
But the layout and welcome is awkward...the lighting terrible in most places
Good food, attentive service....as always a good dining experience.
Great addition to Ealing dining scene. Excellent food and service. Very happy
Normally a great fan of Charlotte's W5 at lunch time. Visited on a friday night, it was admittedly busy but service patchy,eg forgot one of our side dishes needed several reminders. Also my friend needed to use accessible toilet ,very disappointed overflowing nappy bin, problem with the flush etc.
Service poor, food - half the table good n tasty ,half the table poor ,overcooked lamb and pork. Portion size for everyone tiny eg mackerel starter was a thin sliver, possibly half a fillet of a very small mackerel on some potatoes. Our table of 7 placed in the back corner which was brightly lit and no ambience. Despite being brightly lit staff seemed unaware of our presence. had to explain to barman how to make a moscow mule as the first one made was simply vodka, ginger beer, ice and a slice of lemon!
Excellent starters and mains. Desserts a little disappointing. Great service and overall good VFM. this was second visit and will happily go back again.
Braised beef was epic, love taking my daughter here we both love our treat
After main dish we were not asked if we wanted dessert, when we asked to see the dessert menu, we were told that kitchen was closed. I’ve been at the restaurant many occasions and this is the first time the service was not good.
The food and service were excellent - the venue is rather too large for our taste, particularly with its high ceilings; a rather noisy atmosphere.
Beautiful place, extraordinary food, outstanding service.
Perfect venue for a date night, professional friendly staff who know their stuff and recommended the perfect bottle of red to compliment our meals.
Also bubbly personalities and know how to have a laugh along with great service.
Very comfortable with a great atmostphere inside and out.
good experience, and good service, all was spot on, definitely will be back
Great food and venue - service was a little slow
First visit for a dinner and would recommend. The dinning area is airy with high ceilings, the tables are reasonably well spaced. The food and service was good, however the wine list could do with a few more reasonably priced bottles.
Very poor service. Food was ok, but for the price paid not as good as I was expecting. Wine is extortionate.
