Our food was delicious! We had the scallops appetizer, and it was the star of the night! We also had the burrata salad - very good. Our entrees included the cioppinno, the petrale sole and the salmon stuffed with brie and crab. All great, but the salmon wasn't stuffed with brie, it was goat cheese. Our bringing this up seemed to offend the waiter.
Wines were a bit over priced, and not the selection we would have enjoyed, but acceptable. Our waiter didn't seem to know much about the wine.
We were seated by the bathroom, even thought the restaurant wasn't full, and we treated to the a view of the loo on a regular basis. Ugh.
Dessert was the the signature chocolate, BEAUTIFUL, but otherwise not special.
I would absolutely go again, the 'highs' of this place were that good. I could live on the scallops!!
Chef Melba’s remains one of our favorite restaurants. The quality is consistently good and the menu creatively different than you will find anywhere else. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable and the service attentive but not overly intrusive. Highly recommend it

After many recommendations from my colleagues, I was excited to take my girlfriend to Chef Melba’s and try this awesome place. 🤗
As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted cordially by our waiter Jan who headed us to our table. From the first sight, we’ve got experience this unique splendid atmosphere which I always seek but can hardly find. The place was so relaxed, quiet with nice ambient music. Hence, all these features ensured me that this would be an extraordinary romantic date.🔥😍
I really liked the fresh modern menu and for our appetizer, we were recommended the char grilled octopus with a fresh & crispy salad based on cucumber, hearts of palm and apples with a pineapple habanero topping.
As my girlfriend was craving for the red wine, we tried this great Napa Orin Swift Papillon, which was beautifully blended and complemented the sea food we had.🍷
We were so caught up for the main as I was excited to try Chef Melba’s signature yellowfin tuna from Fiji, which we had rare with mango, watermelon radishes, wasabi, soy sauce and pickled ginger. The dish was great both visually and tastefully as the fish was super fresh and soft, literally just melting in my mouth.😋
Before we had a chance to think about our dessert, Chef Melba came from kitchen to find out if we are happy with the dishes and recommended lemon tart with marshmallows and dulce de leche for desert, which we were happy to share as Jan recommended to try their 20 years old Port wine so we were pretty full at this point. 🤩
We were really happy to try this place and will definitely come again to taste other things from the great menu, service and atmosphere they offer!
We in the past went to Melba's often and enjoyed it, then a few years back every visit became more and more disappointing. We finally stopped wasting our money. Tonight after a four year hiatus we decided to give it another try. Unfortunately it was again a waste of money and a meal. Starter was cold, sent it back. Clearly they simply tried to warm the same cold plate up. send it back again. Then was given an excuse by Melba. For my main course I ordered the Sea Bass, it was also cold. For $48 I would have expected it to be properly done on the first go round. Send it back, again to be brought back the same food slightly warmer, add to that, even if it had been hot it was simply lacking in flavor. Did not eat it and told them them it was poorly prepared but was still charged $48. Additional the waiter was very arrogant, I will give him, it appeared he to be he was the only waiter for the whole restaurant. Will not return.

Very loud. Kitchen slow. Food came out cold. Usually a very lovely dining spot.
I have used Chef Melba for catering but this was our first time dining in the restaurant. The restaurant is small and the service was truly memorable, they make you feel like your coming to a friends house for dinner. Such a great spot and atmosphere with great choices on the menu.
I was there again with my wife & chef Melbas has an incredible touch with her seafood. The quality of products that she uses is immaculate. My wife had Pacific Miyagi oysters which was clean, crisp & fruity finish. I had the octopus served in a tasty salad cucumbers, hearts of palms, pacific rose apples. Chilean sea bass so silky and melts in your mouth, my wife had the Osso
Bucco done to perfection. Of course with a nickel and nickel Chardonnay chilled perfectly. Jan the European server is pure classy he treats us like a royalty. We had the famous Meyer lemon tart. Chef melbas goes an extra mile and her culinary imagination.
I will return definitely. Chef Melba’s is the best.

Best food in the area. We dine here several times a year and the food is always delicious. It is really a place you can count on to consistently serve a good meal. The restaurant is small and intimate. It feels like a special occasion every time.
This place is AMAZING. Chef Melba is behind the open kitchen cooking everything herself. The food is fresh and delicious and beautifully presented. Her food is only enhanced by her spectacular smile and sunny greetings of the guests.

We have dined here many times, and the food is always outstanding, but then we like fish and Melba always presents unique dishes. When crowded for special days like New Year's, Valentines Day, etc. it can be crowded and noisy and the service a bit slower. Best to avoid the raucous crowds and eat at a more leisurely pace during the week, when it is less crowded and the staff can be more attentive.
Our meals were outstanding, as always, and we had a very enjoyable Valentines Day. Only comment is that the wait staff was overly busy and they could have used maybe one more person. We have been previously served by the waitress we had this night and, while she normally has a rushed demeanor, this night she was was even more rushed than usual. All in all, however, our night was great.

Delicious fresh seasonal foods prepared perfectly and artistically presented.
We visit Hermosa Beach a couple of times a year and were thrilled to discover this wonderful little spot. The service was very personalized and attentive, and the menu was interesting. When my husband chose the pasta and clams, the Chef herself came out to tell him she was running short on the clams and asked him what else he would like her to add in. Honestly, there were tons of clams in the dish and the gesture didn’t seem to be necessary, but the added shrimp was delicious! We will definitely return on our next visit!

No matter how many times we dine here, the meal and experience are superb. The menu changes a bit, which is nice, but many old favorites still appear.
What doesn't change are the extraordinary flavors. Everything we had (4 of us) was delicious delicious delicious.
The prices are fair for the value and quality. If you haven't visited, you must put Melba's on your list.
We're convinced Chef Melba is on of Southern California's most underrated cooking talents. Virtually every dish we have tried has been a marvelous surprise in presentation and taste. We're regulars here, and will continue to be so.
Always love Chef Melbas. One of the South Bays hidden gems. Small, intimate, white table cloth find. The food is amazing. The owner is the chef and prepares in an open concept kitchen.
Too many great food choices to mention.
Melba's is a very pleasant place for dinner. The wait staff has uniformly been very attentive, but not intrusive. Food is well prepared (had the Osso bucco special this time), and portions are just right. Been here a couple times and will certainly return.
Go there for the exceptional service, food and wine. Continue to go for the amazing Chef Melba's delightful and creative cuisine. This place is always a must go for special events and every day dining.
Delicious seafood cooked to perfection! I had the scallops and my husband had the cioppino. Best meal we’ve had in this area. A notch above most restaurants. Try it, I guarantee you’ll love the food!

Chef Melba’s is my go to restaurant in the South Bay! The food and service is excellent! I’ve had dinner dates with the wife, business meetings and events held here and the food is always amazing! Thank you Melba and Jon for the fabulous service and delicious meals!
Chef Melba’s is a gem. It’s a treat to see Chef Melba cooking; she always has a smile and a wave. She truly loves what she is doing and it shows in the fresh, delicious dishes.
The restaurant is small and get loud when filled, as it usually is, but overall, it’s not too extreme.
Our server last night seemed extremely tense and complained-bragged about how this was his third job of the day. He was training another server who seemed nervous to be working with him. Too bad, because ther personnel at Melba’s has always been upbeat and helpful line Melba. Maybe an off night for our server.
My partner had the cioppino and it was delicious! I had capellini and clams and also wonderful. Both had a delicious broth unique to each dish. Each was absolutely loaded with seafood. You won’t be disappointed at Melba’s.

My wife and I went to Chef Melba's for our first dinner out after moving to Hermosa Beach. The food was fantastic and they took great care of us! Made us both feel part of the family there.
Excellent restaurant in the “old style”. A great personable chef, an interesting seasonal menu with top quality sourcing, professional and knowledgeable wait staff and most amazingly, one may dine at one’s leisure and actually have dinner conversation without an ear-splitting noise level.
I decided to come back and try Chef Melbas for a second time this week! Just like the first time I walked in and John the European waiter was there to greet me. I had the Persian salad which was fabulous. The flavors were immaculate! For my entree I had the rib eye steak with cognac bordaise and chantrale mushroom sauce. I made sure to thank the chef again for such a wonderful meal. Thank you chef!
Hidden jem in Hermosa Beach. The place is cozy but the menu is creative and fresh. We shared the crispy oysters for an appetizer—it was lightly breaded and crunchy. My husband had the sea bass and I had the coconut broth dish. Everything was flavorful and the portions were just enough. Looking forward to visiting Chef Melba’s next time we’re in the South Bay.
Fabulous dinner. Was there with 4 girlfriends to celebrate a birthday. We had apps and dinner and two desserts.
The Thai coconut broth was to die for. Huge prawns, calimari, scallops and fish in a beautiful, rich comforting coconut broth.
One friend had the steak special which was just as yummy, and another had sole, and another a prawn/scallops special.
All were amazing, great portions and full of surprising flavor. At the end of the night Chef Melba came out to y’all to us, for quite a while, so it felt like we were in her home. She clearly loves what she does and takes so Much pride. And it shows. Will definitely go back! Thank you chef!
I was so disappointed that I didn’t try this place sooner!! All 4 of of us walked in as newbies and couldn’t get over how incredible our dishes were!! Absolutely a must!! Hermosa is lucky to have such a gem!
A definite go to dinner location in Hermosa Beach! The food is excellent and prepared upon order. The service is on point, the wine selection is great and desserts are delicious. It’s by far our favorite restaurant in the South Bay!
I recently just moved from Malibu to Hermosa Beach a couple weeks ago and my wife and I decided to try this hidden gem, since many of our close friends who live in the South Bay have recommended it. We were welcomed immediately by chef Melba and were sat by the window on the left hand side of the restaurant. To start off, our waiter John recommended a nice bottle of Crystal champagne which was fairly priced compared to other restaurants in Malibu. Since I’m a huge fan of octopus, we started off with that, followed by the eggplant board which I thought was very unique. The octopus was tender and had a lot of flavor. As for the eggplant board, the dressing was fabulous and I loved the grilled pears and beets! Next, my wife and I had the specials which were the Chilean sea bass and the rib eye steak with jumbo prawns on top. Wow! The presentation was impressive and the flavours were all there! Usually we both take our foods home but this time we ate it all! It also went well with our champagne, thanks John! Lastly, we shared a chocolate bag with passion fruit mousse and berries on top, definitely now one of my favorite deserts! We will definitely be back again next week since we talked to the chef and she mentioned that she changes the menu regularly and I would love to come and enjoy this food again. Thank you chef Melba, we will be back!
Had a wonderful meal at Chef Melba’s Bistro! The food and service were top notch and I would recommend for any occasion. Jan our server was very knowledgeable about both the food and wine and helped make the evening special. If you love seafood you will be in heaven but there were plenty of other delicious options for everyone. Don’t miss an opportunity to dine here!
