I'm glad that the place is reopened. I stopped in on Friday night. This time, I was at the bar. The place is popular, and most of the other seating--indoor and out--was taken. Sherry was the bartender. Johnnie Platinum and James were in attendance. Elvis Elvis was running around, managing.
Sherry was attentive. I still had to wait for a few walk-ins to place orders before I could, but not too long.
One of the dinner specials was a 12oz ribeye. I ordered that. Also, a burrata appetizer special. The appetizer was a big blob of cheese with four crostini and some fig(?) jam. Great stuff. The ribeye came with asparagus and potato wedges. The steak was very good. Done perfectly.
Drinks were drinks. Yards Summer Crush beer from the tap. A couple of PBRs. I am not fond of drinking something fancy out of a plastic cup, but a manhattan still turns out pretty well.
For the COVID compliance-minded: all of the staff were wearing masks, and the customers were wearing them when coming, going or moving around. Beverages were all in single-use plastic. Food was still on real dishes and accompanied with silverware and cloth napkins. The seats and tables were properly spaced. Everything was constantly being cleaned.
Atmosphere is great. Had a good date night. I’ll recommend and come back again.
I love this place. It’s right across the street from my apartment and always my go to spot.
The owner is the nicest guy and always super friendly.
Chelsea Tavern has great outdoor area for drinks and apps but also has great dinner menu. Service was Awesome and Fodd was very Good!!!
Meg was awesome.
Amazing service Manuel and Danielle are great!!
It was great to finally be able to sit in the restaurant for brunch again and eat a great meal! A special Eggs Benedict (Princess Benedict) was outstanding and the Pastrami Hash was awesome! Our server was personable, attentive and knowledgeable! Last but not least is that the meal was a great value.
The servers are awesome and the food is great!! It's our go to restaurant when we see a show!
We were in a party of 7. We were immediately seated. Everyone's food was delicious and freshly made.
The food was delicious and enjoyed the atmosphere. Perfect location to go see a show at with the Grand Opera House or the Playhouse. Staff was friendly and able to accommodate our time, as we were a little late for our reservation and had a show to catch
We’ve eaten at the Chelsea Tavern before, but the food was even better than we remember. The food arrived quickly, very hot, obviously just out of the kitchen. Serving sizes were just right, The service was perfectly timed. Our server was there when needed and responded quickly to every request. We will definitely be back.
This was strike 3 Chelsea Tavern. Each time we’ve gone the food has been barely ok and the service slow, overworked and inattentive. I had a burger and fries and 1 beer and 1 glass of water. The burger was half the size of the bun, the fries soggy and half raw. After the initial glass of water it was never refilled and although it only took them 14 minutes the bring us our first beer we were only offered a second beer after we asked for the check a full 75 minutes after we were seated.
We tried Chelsea Tavern before going to a show at The Grand across the street. It was convenient and bustling. Tables are packed close together and the place was full so it was very noisy.
The food was fine, except for the fact that I was looking forward to the pastrami Reuben from the online menu only to find that it was no longer on the Tavern menu at all. I elected to have a brisket sandwich. The brisket tasted like the traditional Texas fare. However, it was piled so high on the bun and dripping with BBQ sauce and melted cheese that it couldn’t be eaten as a sandwich but required the use of a knife and fork. This didn’t diminish the great flavors though. The steak fries were accompanied by a delicious horseradish aioli.
My wife had a good chicken caprese sandwich accompanied by “tri-color” fries which included sweet potatoes, white potatoes and what we decided were finely cut onion rings. All of these were crisp and flavorful.
Dessert for us was a unique Warm Granny Apple Caramel Cake that was unlike any apple dessert I’ve had at a restaurant in the way the combination of flavors played together. It was excellent!
Our server was kept busy by the crowd but she was helpful, efficient and pleasant during our entire meal.
Other than the noise level, Chelsea Tavern was an outstanding place for a before theater dinner. We’ll probably be back.
Food and service were very good. We were Seated in the basement which looks very worn and outdated. I was disappointed with this ambience
I have been to Chelsea Tavern many times and have ordered from the standard and special menus. I have never been disappointed in the food which has always been excellent. The service has also been excellent and the value is very high. The beer choices (30 drafts and many bottles) mean that I can always find a beer that I have never had. This is our 'go to' location for dinner in Wilmington.
Loved it! Great Food Great Service!
Tables too close together. Wait staff was attentive, but it felt like we were being rushed. Food was okay. Got the crap dip app, LOADED and Overloaded the crostini and pita that came with it, and still had crab dip left. Was charged for extra crostini in order to not waste the dip. Seriously? There was not enough crostini and pita to start with. It was only a dollar, but it's a cheap and cheesy thing to do to your customers. Loaded potato soup had a texture and taste of potatoes cooked until they were soup. Not good. Wait staff (Devin) was super nice - he should look for work elsewhere, where he is not pressured to rush the customers.
We were seated in the basement and it was a very intimate environment
Service was polite and quick, sensitive that we were going to a show after dinner. Problem was that we were seated in the basement which had an overwhelming musty smell of mold and mildew
We often go to the Chelsea before a concert at the Grand or the Queen. And always go thru OpenTable for reservations. Made them a few weeks before the Squeeze show at the Grand. Got there at 6:30 and our friends were already there. Our server was great. Even after the wrong beers were dropped off at our table. We order appetizers and a usual we opted for the coconut shrimp. Usually they are very good but for some reason a few were not fully cooked. We mentioned this to our server and he took care of it. We order additional mac bites to make up for the shrimp. Good selection of beer and good appetizers. Service is always top notch.
Service was outstanding, food was ok to good depending on what it was. Calamari was just ok and portion was very small. I had the pork wrapped in bacon which was delicious but the mashed sweet potatoes (which according to the menu were supposed to be perogies) were cold. We ate there mostly out of convenience since we had tickets to a show at the Grand right across the street.
Pre-show meal, next time we’ll go to Jimmy Johns which would be considered gourmet as compared to the slop served at Chelsea. “Brisket” sandwich was rubbery lunch meat, burger was so loaded with salt you couldn’t taste the meat. Ordered a bottled beer that tasted foul, and when I checked the bottle it expired last August! When I pointed this out to server he offered to take half off the beer. Seriously?? I wasn’t looking for a discount I didn’t want to get sick from a beer that expired 6 months ago!
Good food except the dessert special which was bland. Service was attentive and good.
Excellent food, table service excellent. Front door reception was awful, but I think they were overwhelmed. No smiles from staff there, but our red headed waitress more than made up for it. Great place to eat before or after a show downtown. Will be back soon.
Dinner was fabulous. Best meal I've had there. I had the pork tenderloin, friend had the duck and raved about it.
We loved our waiter!!!!!
1) Waiter forgot us
2) Waiter didn't tell us about Valentine's Day special
3) Soup was lukewarm: steak was lukewarm; lobster was lukewarm (remarkably, consistently lukewarm)
4) Desserts were delicious
5) Seated at middle tables where patrons and employees alike continued to use the space between the tables as their thoroughfare. Literally had coats dragged across the top of our table as we were eating.
Will NOT recommend.
We arrived early and the host took the time to locate a table within 5 minutes. The waitress was made aware that we had tickets for the theater across the street and accomadated our time frame with asmile.
Great place to dine before a show.
We often go to Chelseas and have had a few issues with the food in the past but the last 3 visits the food has been consistently very good. ON this trip, our food, wine were great, our server a little scattered. We finally ordered the wine from the bar after she had not done it for a good 15 min. We also ended up reminding her the beers ordered 15 min earlier were sitting on the bar for pick up. Generally our servers are much more attentive, the restaurant wasn’t packed, so maybe an off night? Even if we had the same server, we would not hesitate to go back again.
Was a wonderful first experience at this downtown Wilmington establishment. A great place to share a meal before a show. It was Valentine’s Day and the menu was amazing. Will definitely be returning.
I was a bit disappointed in the vegetable risotto. There were not many vegetables, but a lot of rice. I didn't think the dish was worth $19 at all.
First time here with my party of 6 on Sunday February 9th, 2020. Had us standing for half an hour because they could not find the reservation. Mind you, I'm disabled. Finally a manager was summoned. He found the reservation, which was there all along. Took 15 minutes afterwards to seat us because they hadn't prepared the table. Needless to say, I was in severe pain at this point. I did not complain because we were going to see Sinbad across the street at the Grand Opera and I did not want to spoil the evening. After all the inconveniences, they comped us not one drink. That, to me, would have been a courteous offer, without having to ask.
Chelsea's Tavern was dilapidated and very disappointing. I could not bring myself to enjoy the food as I saw the dining room was empty yet the kitchen was stocked with food ready to be served. They have a very nice beer selection though. I would recommend stopping here for a beer then moving on to another location to order food.
Another good pre-show experience. The bacon wrapped pork tenderloin was very good as were the scallops my wife had. The service was very good.
Very convenient to shows at the Grand. The food was good (did not understand the cheese on the Brussel sprouts, but hey - maybe someone would). Our server was fantastic and we were able to finish in time to make our show). Good pub food, reasonable price.
The food was delicious, the bloody Mary bar was great but the service was very disappointing. We had to wait at every point, had to ask for our drink order twice; actually cancelled one of the drinks because it took so long. When we asked for coffee once of the party of three was served a half cup of coffee because there wasn't enough coffee brewed. For Sunday Brunch?? Seriously? And then when our coffee cups were filled again, she ran out once again. The food was very good, the service was terrible from start to finish, unfortunately. Luckily we arrived early and were seated 15 minutes early for our 12pm reservation or we would have been pressed to make our 2pm showtime. Would go back, for sure but will not have that waitress again.
We stopped by between shows at the Grand Opera House for dinner. We showed up about 30 minutes early and the hostess was kind to seat us before our reservation time. There were many tables available. Unfortunately we were seated 1 table for two away from the door to the kitchen. So while the service was attentive and the food good, the experience was not what it could have been. Guess we should have complained, or not accepted the table, but as it was our first time here, we thought we would go with the flow. The pulled pork sandwich, chicken chili and beet salad were all very good. We chose not to stay for dessert.
The food was OK, but not as good as in the past. The server, while friendly, was a bit short on attention to detail. He brought me the wrong meal. Additionally, the menu hasn't been updated for awhile.
Blue and black burger-outstanding! French fries-outstanding,white and sweet potato and onions mixed together, awesome. Service was so quick and right! 5:45 reservations, early for a Friday but had an event at the Grand .
Good pub food and nice service from Maddie. We were seated relatively close to the bar, which was fine, except when 1 guy would just yell loudly about the football game — really scream. Totally unnecessary and thoughtless on his part. Other than that, a nice visit.
