At Chez Bruce we are not particularly into gadgets and tricks in the kitchen. Home-made charcuterie, slow cooked braises, offal, warm and cold salads, classical desserts and bread-making could be listed as specialities. We also take the cheese board very seriously indeed and it forms an integral part of the restaurant's day-to-day life.
The Directors of the restaurant are fanatical wine-lovers and are very proud of the restaurant's wine list which truly is one of the very best in the UK.
Stunning food - it was absolutely faultless. Very good service and nice ambiance. Highly recommend
Simply very very good. Welcoming staff, and light/bright room with good noise levels. Good selection of wines by the glass & carafe to match above average cooking. A cheeseboard worthy of attention and charming staff keep it all ticking over. Good enough for special occasions or more regular restitution. A few crumbs under the table cloth and sediment in the wine would offer the tiniest of glitches in an otherwise impeccable set up.
Usually excellent but seemed to be having an off day. Service was all over the place and food was disappointing. Sommelier was great but nothing else clicked.
Fantastic, straight-forward food. There were no frills or pretentiousness, just fantastic cooking of great ingredients.
We have been coming to Chez Bruce for over 10 years now. It’s always been our favourite place and excellent value for money. We even had our wedding meal there. Sadly I feel the service isn’t what it used to be and hope this will be taken as constructive criticism as I want Chez Bruce to succeed. Before staff used to take time to go through the menu with you and make the food sounds so delicious, now I have to ask the staff to explain things and the explanation is ok but not presented with the passion it used to be. Little things like explaining the different types of bread rather than just presenting the bread basket with you and not saying anything.
This may sound silly but it’s those small things in my opinion which make a fantastic restaurant.
This was straightforward classic cooking with tasty results. The service was unpretentious but attentive enough. The atmosphere was convivial with more of a smart bistro feel. Excellent value 3 courses. Just lacked real finesse to get my 5 stars. Judging by the popularity, I can imagine the restaurant is consistent in what it delivers.
The food was amazing and the service by the waiters/waitresses was first class. The only recommendation would be that the decor could do with a lick of paint.
Love the food- the asparagus, the salmon and the cheese baked were wonderful! The fresh bread- the biscuits- they were great. We had a leisurely dinner and loved the environment.
Lovely birthday lunch. Food and service is as ever fantastic.
Service was average
A near-perfect meal - superbly attentive but unobtrusive service, a room that seems to do everything right, including the acoustic, which makes nearby tables seem quieter and further away than they are, and food that, while not pushing the boundaries, is superbly executed in every way. Take your mum, your boss, your friends, your enemies, take everyone.
We love Chez Bruce, a Michelin star restaurant without being pretentious. We visited for my wife's birthday and was not disappointed. The food, wine and service were outstanding. THANKS!
Chez Bruce never fails to deliver. Delicious food, excellent waiting staff and sommelier. We’ve been coming for years and will continue to do so!
Delicious food and excellent service!! On a sunny day it make for a lovely lunch overlooking the Park.
Love this restaurant and are so lucky to live nearby. It’s never failed to deliver superb food and service in a lovely environment
Always brilliant. Such a lovely lunch treat with a friend. Loved it all.
I took a client there for a birthday lunch ...the service and food were super...and little extras like the unprompted Birthday Cake were a delight
Never fails always consistently good food wine and service
Reliably superb! Food was excellent, the service impeccable and the wine list as good as ever.
Fantastic place and wonderful food but expensive. One for special occasions but it is special.
Always wonderful, a real treat.
The food was absolutely delicious... it was worth every penny. Thank you
Excellent food & service. Exceptional as always
Our favourite restaurant in London! Food and service are amazing.
Great food, one issue with my starter - disappointing for a Michelin star restaurant but the staff more than made up for it!
First time at Chez Bruce and wont be the last.
Very nice place to be, everything was really good.
Would highly recommend trying this place.
Exquisite food, impeccable service. Had the best time and the little touches make a dinner here just that bit more special
First night out after having baby
When my fiancé said that he just wanted to go 'somewhere special' for his 30th birthday lunch, Chez Bruce immediately sprang to mind; even though I'd never been myself before, it's somewhere I've only ever heard incredibly good things about, and handily it's local to us too.
All those incredibly good things were true; from the welcome on arrival, to the ambience, the choices on the lunch menu (although it is a set price, it's not what you could call a set menu as there are about eight choices for each course), the quality of the food itself - more of that in a second - and the overall value for money for a three-course, Michelin-starred meal with great wine.
We had: starters - deep fried calf brains, sauce gribiche mains - grilled Loch Duart salmon with asparagus and gnochettti dessert - honey bavarois with rhubarb, and cheese. Everything was outstanding, both technically in terms of preparation, visually in terms of presentation and most importantly, taste. Also worth noting is how generous the portions were for a restaurant like this; in many Michelin-starred restaurants they would have been half the size!
The cheese deserves extra-special mention; the cheeseboard at Chez Bruce is famous and deservedly so, offering about 25 cheeses from across Europe and I was invited to choose as many as I wanted, including a Belgian hard cheese I'd never tried before, a wonderful Perl Las blue, an oozing Epoisses and a wonderfully nutty, rich 21-month-aged Comte.
The wine list is very fairly priced with prices starting affordably low (low £20s) and not going too intimidatingly high even at the top end. I was also impressed how many were available by the glass, carafe and half bottle.
Service was superb, professional and precise but not at all formal or stuffy; all in all I couldn't think of a single thing to fault about Chez Bruce and can't wait to return.
Perfectly pleasant evening at Chez B celebrating a birthday. We haven't been here for many a moon but the cooking was on point and service attentive. I would mention however that when you order wine by the glass to accompany the main course it arrives with the main and not shortly after the food order is taken. Only a small thing but something to watch. Thanks
Simply beautiful food and ambience
Great food, superb service, fantastic cheese board, good wine and a visit to our table from Bruce to finish off a great experience! Just go.......
great local restaurant. Tables however were rather close together so it felt a bit cramped and service was a little overwhelmed at times.
We took some friends as a thank you. We had such a lovely day. The staff are all lovely and Bruce was around
All round great evening
As ever a delicious dinner served with style and assurance
As ever, fantastic meal Chez Bruce, and well worth the (considerable) outlay. Very much a "special occasion" restaurant if you're not loaded.
If you've balked at trying offal such as sweetbreads (or on this occasion brains) this is the place to give them a try, they can be a revelation, as was tonight's pigeon. There are always classics (roast cod, cote de boeuf) for the less adventurous and these are consistently fantastic too. The cheeseboard is deservedly legendary though the desserts are not to be missed - even if you're not usually a dessert person.
Tonight there was obviously a hiccup in the service, with a long wait after main courses. These things happen. Importantly, it was noticed and dealt with quickly - profuse apologies, explanation, two glasses of exceptional and unusual wine offered for free with the cheese, and the service charge removed without us asking. For this reason I'm giving 5 stars as ever.
My only slight issue at Chez Bruce is that it can be quite noisy - if you're going with someone hard of hearing ask for a quiet table (? near the front).
Deservedly one of Londoners' favourite restaurants, year on year. Bruce Poole is to be thanked for concentrating on the kitchen rather than the television
Always outstanding, from the food to the service - Chez Bruce never disappoints. We’ll be coming back soon, it’s one of my favourite restaurants in London.
