About Chez Bruce
Bruce Poole and Nigel Platts-Martin opened Chez Bruce in 1995. From the outset, it was their intention to serve the very best food and drink but within a relaxed, informal yet thoroughly professionally orchestrated environment.
At Chez Bruce we are not particularly into gadgets and tricks in the kitchen. Home-made charcuterie, slow cooked braises, offal, warm and cold salads, classical desserts and bread-making could be listed as specialities. We also take the cheese board very seriously indeed and it forms an integral part of the restaurant's day-to-day life.
The Directors of the restaurant are fanatical wine-lovers and are very proud of the restaurant's wine list which truly is one of the very best in the UK.

Chez Bruce Ratings and Reviews
We took our Canadian friend to Chez Bruce as we always had fantastic meals and wher never disappointed. Actually going on a Sunday evening was rather nice the restaurant was quiet and we had all the attention of the superb staff. We have been going to Chez Bruce for over 20 years and it’s still as it was in the beginning!
We've enjoyed Chez Bruce on Wandsworth Common since it first opened some years ago. The menu, the service, and the decor put it high on our list whenever we travel to London. This time the cheese biscuits to start, the remarkable foie gras, the grilled sea bream, and the creme brûlée were all memorable. We shall look forward to our next visit.
A wonderful birthday lunch at Chez Bruce with my family. Excellent service throughout, but Mum was particularly impressed that Bruce came to say hello! Tasty food with interesting flavour combinations. The suggested wines fitted the brief provided and accentuated the food. We'll be visiting again I'm sure.
Our first visit to Chez Bruce and we will definitely be back. The food was wonderful particularly my steak tartare and husband’s lobster ravioli. Service was faultless. But the ambience was great, busy but not too noisy and it was light and clean decor that helped it feel less busy. What a great place, already looking forward to our next visit.
Absolutely flawless in every way. The food, from the first piece of bread through to the shortbread with the coffee was all exceptional and service is attentive without being obtrusive. The lunch has to be one of the best value fine dining experiences in London.
The standards at Chez Bruce are as high as any restaurant I have ever been to, but, delightfully, nowhere near flash or ostentatious. It's unpretentious, but the food is as good as I've ever had, fantastically tasty but the portions are good too. Staff are superb, being welcoming & friendly, yet professional & exceeding attentive, charming & courteous.
The atmosphere is good, but not too noisy.
The wine list extensive & sommelier knowledgeable & helpful.
Truly excellent & I honestly cannot find any fault with my recent experience.
Excellent food and service!! Full restaurant and good, buzzy atmosphere at Sunday lunchtime.
Sadly, both the starter and main course that I chose were sold out (it was 2pm), but great alternatives were available . We both loved the food.
Excellent service from the wine waiter who chose a lovely and very reasonably priced wine for me. Staff couldn't have been nicer!
Very enjoyable experience- expensive but worth it. Will definitely return!
My husband's birthday! This is our favourite restaurant and our choice for special occasions. We were not disappointed. The service is attentive, friendly. The sommelier gave good advice and is happy to look at lower price wines. We liked the choice on the menu - suits meat and fish eaters as well as vegetarians. I choose the vegetarian main course which was different and delicious. There is no better cheeseboard in London (we think!) A lovely little happy birthday dessert made it special for us. Good coffee, lovely truffles. Overall a very good experience.
Chez Bruce is a wonderful restaurant; near to the centre of London, but with a more relaxed feel than most fine dining restaurants and a lovely setting overlooking Wandsworth Common.
Lunch was excellent with great starters, good wine and the usual attentive service. One main course suffered a small hiccup (unusual for Chez Bruce) with my wife's lamb proving rather tough ("but the sauce most excellent"). The waiter quickly responded and the Maitre D' was soon at our table to apologise and explain the chef would be talking to their butchers, my wife was offered an alternative and no charge was made on the bill. This was the perfect response and left us happy that the whole team front of house and in the kitchen had reacted quickly and appropriately. After all any kitchen can have the occasional hiccup. We were then treated to extra deserts as an apology too. I hasten to add this did not impact our enjoyment of a very good lunch because the staff were so good. The cheese-board is worth a special mention which I had in place of desert, it is really excellent with a wide range of cheeses from the UK and France, all in first class condition.
We will be returning to Chez Bruce again shortly! Strongly recommend a visit.
