One of the best meals we have had in a long time. Food was gorgeous. Only negative was service was a bit slow but food was worth the wait!
Best cod I have ever eaten and superb service! Always a pleasure!
Service & food were excellent. Attention to detail stood out for me. The sea bass with prawns was well cooked with just enough spice for flavour Beef filet was tender & delicious. Side of vegetables, pak Choi in oyster sauce was delicious too. Thoroughly recommend.
We visited on a Sunday night, the restaurant was very quite, but regardless the service was excellent and the food was incredible. Will definitely be back.
The food was outstanding. My wife and I chose to order the taster menu because we like to try lots of different dishes. We were not disappointed at all. The starter was so delicious, the main was plentiful and borderline too much...actually it was too much for 2 people and dessert was superb. The only thing which could not be controlled was the office party of 30 people who were enjoying themselves. This made it less of a romantic dinner, but wrong night, not wrong restaurant.
The most delicious food around. We were a party of 15, all having a variety of menu options and every dish was superb.
Always amazing! Staff are so lovely and food is incredible
Excellent ambience, wonderful and unusual Indian food. Wine can be a bit expensive but overall we would definitely recommend.
Food & service excellent as ever. This is a great restaurant that I would recommend to anyone.
A beautiful restaurant, excellent food and friendly professional service. A first visit but definitely not the last.
A fantastic wine list, mouthwatering food can’t recommend highly enough.
Great evening just very slow on being served with drinks while we were in the bar had to ask several times other wise no complaints food exceptional as always
Such a lovely treat! I had heard it was good but didn’t expect it to be this good. You could easily pay the same elsewhere and get mediocre food. A lovely evening out!
V slow service for our 3rd visit although food good
Best meal we’ve had in St Albans in years. Thank you.
We booked an early dinner on a curry night and we had a lovely dinner at a nice corner table. Everything was top notch, and a step above any other Indian restaurants in the area.
Delightful for a date night, but I am equally interested now in booking the function room.
When we were show to our table we were seated but we were not asked if we wanted anything to drink . I had to call someone over as we sat for about 10 minutes.
The menu said glass of pink champagne on arrival but didn’t even get that . I had to ask for it .
It wasn’t hugely busy so thought they would have been slightly more attentive for Valentine’s Day .
Food was ok though .
We had a superb evening at the chez mumtaj,
I fully recommend the restaurant, the staff were very attentive the food was excellent a great venue for a special occasion, we will definitely return. Thank you all,
Wonderful menu, excellent food everything was delicious. Only thing against was that it is a huge restaurant and there was only one other occupied table, so no ambience!
Would most definitely return on a Saturday night!
Very high quality food. Great on all fronts. Hard to beat it really.
The food was presented really nicely and the tase was amazing. Not a typical Indian Restaurant, it was very unique in it's flavours and I would happily revisit. They have halal options too.
The service was terrible and the staff were quite rude. We had a few vegetarians on our group and there wasn't much choice for them either.
Most original restaurant in st Albans by far. Blend of French style cookery with fantastically selected Indian spices. Midweek always fairly quiet so service is excellent. If you go Friday/Sat make sure you have ordered by 7.30 as service goes downhill after that as restaurant too big for the kitchen.
Midweek you can also choose classical Indian dishes
First time. Excellent.
Really great. Unexpected but a good find. Refined Indian food with a twist. Very tasty and presented well. Perfect portion sizes amd good service.
We loved the service and the food.
There was a good selection on the menu and the food was very well cooked and presented.
We are looking forward to going back.
A very very poor experience. 3 over cooked dried pieces of salmon, tuna and prawn in the seafood platter. Two dry pieces of sheekh kebaabs - again very awful. The three very sweet shop bought chutneys served with the popadoms basket were not great either...
Main course didn't get an better... we had chicken/saag, okra and mushrooms... all lacking flavour that we actually asked for pickle and turned up was Pataks Mango Pickle ( i know this as i have it at home). The nest thing thing about the evening was my Gin. I'm lucky i had made paella at home for hubby and there was some left over for me to eat when i got home.
Chez Mumtaj St Albans offers excellent service and cuisine with a good menu most of which we've tasted over time. With this in mind it would be nice to see it updated more frequently. To name a few winners from the menu... Duck Samosa, Lamb Shank, Fish Biriani are all fantastic! A good wine list to choose from as well as well a good range of liqueurs etc to round off an enjoyable evening. Keep up the good work but do consider changing the menu a bit more to offer more award winning combinations.
Great restaurant - excellent food, very comfortable, good service. The chef/owner is passionate about what he does. I wish them continued success.
Thanks for a wonderful Sunday meal. All very good.
Fantastic food. Meat platter was delicious. I think they need more choices with dessert. Other than that, it was a lovely meal and would definitely go back.
Very very pleasant with a great ambience.
Food was amazing .
We had a delicious meal - the food is always exceptional, the surroundings are lovely and the service attentive. We would definitely recommend this restaurant!
The exterior hides a restaurant with great food which was filling, well prices and great service.
As you enter the restaurant subdued lighting and dark wood bar greet you. The very friendly hostess guided us through, past the open kitchen (great to be able to see cleanliness, and efficient team) As you turn the corner you arrive to a light bright well appointed room. Comfortable chairs, polished wine glasses and a real feeing of style, class and experience.
The Asian/French influenced menu is so far from the expectations one has when booking a table at an Indian restaurant. Delicate flavour induced dishes that delight the senses.
A wine list that the most discerning customer can be happy with. Classic and new world all available here.
The Salmon as a starter was excellent so perfectly prepared and served. As a non meat eater the starter was followed by the most amazing Seafood Biryani. I will not spoil future dinners experience by sharing how this dish is served. Other than to say. If you manage a dessert your a better man than I. Fantastic.
We cannot wait to return. But remember It’s not a “curry house”. It’s a “quality restaurant “.
Great restaurant and excellent food!!! Can’t wait for a return visit!!!!
Fish want up to much
Loved our food - it's the first time i could eat indian on a date with my partner as there was a good selection of europesn and indian. Appetizers were uniqie and tasty. Food was worth paying that bit more for, and drinks/ service were reasonable
Lovely elegant Resturant great food and staff ( service)
