About

Chick 'n' sours is a local fried chicken shop, but not as you know it!

A whimsical menu of herb fed fried chicken, next level sides, sour cocktails, local beers & cracking soft serve ice cream creations.

We're obsessive about our food and take pride in working closely with small British producers such as Pilmoore Grange Farm in Yorkshire who supply us with their free range, herb fed chickens & Keveral Farm, an organic farm community in Cornwall producing some of the tastiest vegetables around.

We don't take bookings on Friday & Saturday so head on down. If we are full, don't worry, we operate a fast moving waiting list where you can put your name down and either have a drink with us or pop to the nearby pub for one and we'll text you when your table is ready. We look forward to seeing you soon

Best fried chicken, great drinks, lovely staff, one slightly bad thing would be it's a bit too noisey so it's hard to have a conversation with the other people you go with. But the food makes up for it most of the time.

Arrived 10mins late and table had been given away. Told to sit in bar to wait but not offered a drink or menu for 15mins. Shown to a table and ordered a drink... Chased the drinks after another 20mins and it seems they weren't ordered on the system.. By this point I was starting to lose my temper slightly with your typically disinterested east London hipster service. Food is average. Given this place two tries now (first time was useless too and the chicken was still clucking when served but it had only just opened so gave it a second try)
Never again...

Fun, quirky little place that does possibly the best fried chicken I've ever had. The little Asian inspired twists really take things up a notch and the house sour cocktails are a treat too. We will be back!

VERY disappointing in the drinks prices. A HALF can of beer was £6...too much. The pub next door for the same beer was £4.50 for a PINT. I Understand its a restaurant but £12 for a pint of beer is outrageous.

Wont be going again

So delicious! Amazing service with a smile. the plates were so good that even my aubergine fearing bf got bowled over by the schezuan aubergine starter which was dreamy! Disco wings were spicy sticky and sweet and the Korean buns were so big that I had to take half of mine home for later! Sour cocktails were on fleek. Have totally recommended to everyone to go, and on an empty stomach! Loved it, great soundtrack too.

The food was tasty - we had wings to start (we got two sauces - hot and sticky. The hot sauce was good but sticky not), then tenders, two bowls of chips, pickles and coleslaw to share between three. The food was good but the service but the service was not - the chips came 20 minutes after the rest and the extra dips we requested arrived after we'd finished our food. The staff were very friendly but just not on the ball. The people next to us had the Korean burger and that looked great so I'd go again to try that. But I'd say don't expect great service - and don't order the cocktails, they're pricey and we each had a different one but they all tasted the same and were too sweet.

Well worth a visit. Food was delicious, the stand out dish was the Szechuan Aubergine followed closely by the Korean chicken bun (probably good to share if you're also having starters.)

cant wait to return.

Some of the worst service I have experienced. Sat next to a blaring speaker and despite twice being promised to be moved, we watched many people walk in and be offered tables straight away. Food took ages to arrive, think 45+mins between starters and mains, and we eventually had to leave before our dessert arrived to catch the tube. Despite the food being okay, I won't be going again.

There is one 'problem' with Chick n' Sours... the portion size, it was HUGE!
In case you missed that I am actually impressed. The meal was delicious and the cocktails a great accompaniment to the meal. Come hungry!

We got some tenders, burgers and wings, thinking they'd be just enough. In most places that would just about do it, but the portions are really generous, and we left feeling totally stuffed. I'm not usually into cocktails but the one I tried here was brilliant. The chicken is really good quality and well brined. Only negative was that the music was a little loud. Will probably be back more chicken soon!

I really enjoyed the food here. For a chicken restaurant there was a lot of different flavours going on. I shared the hot chicken wings and aubergines for start and had the chicken burger for a main. There was a weird side that looked like a lettuce but was all burnt (not so great) the fries were really tasty. I would recommend this place to anyone.

When we arrived we were bombarded with ear splitting tinny music which was almost unbearable, thanks goodness after about 15 minutes it was turned down. The staff were all courteous and pleasant, the sour cocktail was nice enough but mainly ice, I am not a cocktail person so I am happy to accept it was supposed to be mainly ice.

We had been looking forward to this visit as I had read so many good reviews however the chicken was really disappointing. The coating was OK thick and crispy if a little lacking in seasoning but once you get into the chicken it was terrible, the meat just seemed really tense and it stuck to the bone, it was as if it had been cooked far too quickly and not been allowed to rest. It is quite hard to describe the problems as I have only once before had this type of chicken, my friend agreed it was really strange the chicken was just cooked wrong that is the only thing I can think, it was not at all tender or pleasant just dreadful really. Chips were nice and rich from the beef dripping and the dips and watermelon pickles all good, it was just the chicken texture was so wrong. We were the first customers of the day so perhaps the fryer was set wrong I am not a chef so I cannot really explain what went wrong.

The food at Chick 'n' Sours is in a word, banging.

Great comfort (hangover) food but with brilliant flavours.

I would recommend being adventurous and picking an assortment of dishes to share. The menu is perfect for this and it really adds to the social side of things, rather than just sitting their with your own set meals. You can dip in and out (literally, make sure you try more than one of their sumptuous dips), and just have fun trying new tastes and flavours. We ordered two items that we weren't entirely sold on from the menu description and yet they ended up being the highlights! The aubergine balls are amazing.

My only criticism of our experience would be that (a) The waiter chose to take our order without the use of a notebook. This is a very popular trend and one that needs to end, quickly. Nobody is impressed by it and very often it just leads to the order being wrong, as was the case here. Only a minor error but we ended up with 4 dips, when we only ordered 3. Just use a notebook, please, it puts the customer at ease.

The other thing is, the space in the restaurant. I like the intimate feel and the low lighting but it does tend to feel a little cramped, particularly as it is always so busy. Every time the waitress bought food out to the table behind me I had to endure a kick to my chair or nudge from her elbow. You sit at your table in fear of moving in your chair in case you annoy your surrounding diners. It becomes a tiresome and is an unwelcome distraction from the fantastic food.

I love this place. They are doing things with your tastebuds that you didn't know could be done. The way they cook means that you get the crunchiest, tastiest chicken ever and they have some amazing sauces and salts to make you tingle.
Great cocktails, lovely friendly staff and unlimited wet wipes.
I have been here a couple of times and it is as good as the first. It's great to see they are sticking to the formula and not compromising.

This place has such a relaxed vibe. Great decor, greet music. The staff are always really friendly and welcoming and I enjoy my visit every time. Last time we were a bit late but they were super accommodating and understanding. Our food came so quickly and we were regularly checked up on (but not hassled) to see if we were good or needed anything else. The food is amazing. Just a few options done perfectly. It's always delicious, quick and very good value (I've only once managed to finished everything). It's unfussy and messy to eat (many baby wipes required) but tastes awesome. I've recommended this place to many people after a friend introduced it to me. So good!

I've never really been a fan of fried chicken, but booked the restaurant for my boyfriend's birthday (who absolutely loves it). The food was excellent (especially the aubergine starter and house pickles), and it's definitely the best fried chicken I've ever eaten - I might be a convert! Service was relaxed and friendly, and drinks were well made - my only disappointment was that my fried chicken bun was so big I couldn't finish it (but it was delicious!).

The fried chicken and wings are both delicious. It hard to make a review. The best thing to do is just to go and try it yourself.
The staff is really cool too.

We went on a Sunday for the Whole Fry experience and it was really great. Wonderful flavours and seasoning, and the sides were also amazing - we had broccoli and the most incredible proper chips. You may not get a table to yourself in a couple if it's busy, as the restaurant is tiny, but excellent value, buzzing atmosphere, and great food. Will definitely be back!
