There is no fusion of dishes nor compromise on classical recipes, all are prepared with the freshest ingredients and traditional spices and flavourings. No mono-sodium-glutomate (MSG) shall be used.
The decoration of China Tang will evoke a romantic sense of art deco of the thirties in line with the general architecture of the Dorchester Hotel. At the same time, there will be an abundance of Chinoiserie as well as a collection of art from both.

Good authentic chines food but gets crowded and noisy. Good value considering the location.
As always fantastic food, new is that there are now less chinese and asian waiters and waitresses, which is a pity as it takes away a bit of the authenticity.
Also becoming a bit on the expensive side.
The food was disappointly average. At those prices and small portion size, you get better quality and value at the Michelin star restaurants Hakkasan & Yauatcha! Will not be returning!
It is always a pleasure to dine with you. Whenever we are in London we try to have a meal there
Wonderful in every way
Very good for large parties looking for amazing food
Cooking not up to standard expected. Good portion Size but food nothing special.
We were given a poor service from the manager because we had asked for a good table in the middle of the restaurant when we reserved 2 weeks in advance through open table. We were given a table in a remote corner without any view. When we complained to the manager because there were other tables available we were told to wait 90 minutes and the attitude was embarrassing in front of our guests. we didn’t feel our request was being sympathetically dealt with. Instead he was sarcastic in front of the guests. This affected our experience of the dinner.
Had a delicious dinner at China Tang. Service was excellent, not too expensive £ 175 with wine for 2.
The restaurant is extremely noisy we could barely hear each other speak.
We went to China Tang for a birthday lunch, it was our first visit and we were quite disappointed with the quality of food in particularly given the price they charge. The food was overall nothing special.
My surprise was at the cost of diet coke £5 and orange juice £7.
Came here for my wife's birthday and had an amazing time. The staff was amazing and catered to all our needs and continuously checking in to see if we needed anything. Would recommend coming here for any occasion.
The food at China Tang remains top of the list. The peking duck is one of the better ones in town. The sweet and sour preparations are very tasteful. Good service. Sometimes the noise level is somewhat high.
The staff tries, with some succes, to listen to the customers ( my wife must eat glutenfree). This time we had a waiter who was particularly attentive for the glutenfree issue and he was very helpfull. Thanks.
Love this place
Food is exquisite
Service is impeccable
Favorite restaurant in London
It was a lovely restaurant however the portion was small - ordered lobster for 3 people it was the size for one person. nice staff very helpful but seemed like a factory all the waiters and waitresses waiting by the kitchen entrance for the dishes to serve, seemed crowded with the staff.
Really nice restaurant, with great food and good service. All the staff were really friendly.
Only issue I had was that the tables are quite close together and so it felt quite loud. Not necessarily somewhere you can have a quiet conversation but I would still 100%go back and recommend to friends and family
This is an old school Chinese restaurant with classic dishes, all the old favourites. However, they were tasteless and poor. Not as good as your average local Chinese and not in the same league as the newer modern restaurants (Nobu, Hakkasan etc). They brought out the wrong dish and the bill was wrong. Overall, a really disappointing evening.
Good food, great service! Would highly recommend. Goodkuck
Everything was outsanding but the wine offer could be improved
I was with my wife and other family members this time around. We had been to this restaurant on 3 or 4 occasions in October 2016 and enjoyed the food and arrangements. This time my grand daughter suggested we eat at China Tang as she enjoyed the rice dishes plus the seafood and vegetables. It was an excellent choice.
Absolutely appalling for both food and Atmosphere and way, way overpriced. We went for Dim Sum and were massively dissappointed with poor choice, size and taste of everything. Never again! Be Aware! This is the dirty secret in the base of the Dorchester.
Me and my partner went for dinner at China Tang on the evening of his birthday. We had high expectations as we hold The Dorchester in very high regard.
Firstly our drinks (two diet cokes) arrived and they were flat.
Our starters came, they were ok but definitely nothing special, the salt and pepper prawns the tasteless, the satay chicken was ok at best. We also ordered various dim sum dishes which arrived with no sauces, it then took us 5 minutes to get the attention of a waiter to bring us some by which time they were cold. We also ordered peking duck which was really greasy and average.
I had not been feeling that well for most of the evening and had a headache so asked one of the waiters if it was possible to get some paracetamol, she said “it’s £5 and you have to go up to the concierge and get it yourself” which i found shockingly rude. So I had to walk all the way to the concierge to retrieve the tablets myself. We didn’t feel the service was great at all, especially for one of London’s best hotels. The mains were quite ok I enjoyed the sweet and sour prawns.
I had pre discussed that it was my partners birthday but there was no acknowledgment.
We asked for the bill to which we had a waiter come over without saying a word and just nodded to confirm the card we wanted to use to pay, he didn’t ask how our food was or conversed at all.
The food definitely wasn’t awful but the service was, extremely disappointing, especially for £150 for two.
Enjoyed myself for my partners birthday meal, great food and drink. Service was good and we got a little birthday platter too they arranged when I called them. Cocktails were amazing, a very happy boyfriend.
Still a good place. The dim sum menu is good value.
Excellent food and service
Can’t wait to go back
Great friendly service
Plenty of food simply amazing
The food wasn’t bad, but the service was poor and considering the restaurants/Hotels reputation it wasn’t worth the £250 bill at the end of the evening.
I am not in any rush to return.
The atmorphere was nice but the food took way too long to arrive. We waited for an t mins the completion of our first dish to the second. It was only when we spoke to them that they realise therefore disappointed.
I have been to China Tang several times before and it has been exceptional; unfortunately when we were there on the 13th Oct the service from our waiter was very poor. He slammed the food down on the table, never smiled and forgot some of our orders. The sommelier and food was great but the experience was somewhat ruined by being waited on by someone who made you feel awkward anytime you asked for anything and who glared at you constantly. Afterwards we went upstairs for drinks in the piano bar - the service we received here in our first few minutes surpassed that of our waiter during the whole 2 hour dining.
Additionally there was a private event going on in the bar next to China Tang and we were kept waiting for our table - when we arrived we were told rather rudely that our table wasn’t ready and then were bundled into the overcrowded and extremely noisy bar to wait. We did not mind waiting we were just put out that the private corporate event was deemed to be more important whereby we could be spoken to as if we were a nusiance!
I was very upset as this dinner was for my 40th birthday and had asked the family to join me here due to previous experiences. I wish now I’d gone somewhere else.
Food did not live y
I come here every year for my Birthday. I will not be coming again .
I told them it was my Birthday and usually they bring out something to make you feel special. This year they could not be bothered . I was greeted with” you have the table for 2 hours madam”.
They rushed our meal and the food was ok, there is no ambience and I just felt like I was on a conveyor belt . My whole family were disappointed . Think I will go to Patara next time .
As usual great food, great service .. good atmosphere .. highly recommend
It’s the worst Chinese restaurant
, expect for all the others.
After having visited the Restaurant some years ago this visit was a disapointment. The starters were accepatble, but selection of Dumplings had more or less all the same taste. The main dishes were served on a small plate, very plain and tasteless and did not look very inviting. The Restaurant is very noisy. One can eat better and authentic chinese food in other Restaurants in London at a much lower price.
Great! Very authentic Chinese restaurant. The service was stunning. Great experience for me and my wife for our anniversary.
Pls change rest sofa plus fabric it is faded
I hope when I visit next time the tapestry will be different
very noisy, food is simply average... for the price it is a disgrace really.
Lovely food as usual and wonderful service .
Our servers did a great job with their recommendations and accommodating our requests. Our first choice for good Chinese cuisines.
I had out to China Teng to celebrate special ocassions.
My experience this time around was not as great as the times before. A few pointers that may help the management restore my faith in what is an exceptional place for food and drinks.
First of the Bar, I felt as i arrived alone the people at the Bar were not kneen on offerring me a place to have drink as there two large groups in the place already. I felt a bit put out as the person looking after the floor proceeded in haste to offer a table in the corner. It was only after i ordered a bottle of bubbly, he decided to offer a better sitting location. It all seemed so rushed and the person i talk about kept setting tables and shifting them around the area where i was sitted. As the prices charged are high, i would have expectged better.
Secondly the waiter who looked after our table forgot completely that we asked for additional dishes as our initial order was insuffcient. When reminded, he said he thought we hadnt ordered it and thisleft us miffed as we were food to arrive.
Rather than make a fuss, we politely asked for our bill, settled amd left.
The bar seats and cushions have seen teir better days and need replacing.
Will I return for another, perhaps not, but if i do i will expect my experience to be better assuning taht the Management up the training given to the bar and waiting staff.
The rest were very good in greeting on arrival and directing us to our table.
We opted for the set lunch menu at China Tang and the whole experience was good value and excellent. The food was of a very high standard and substantial. Staff were pleasant and attentive. The restaurant was fairly quiet, and very relaxing. We were never rushed. I had mentioned on the booking form about a birthday but I did not make a big deal about this, and thought that it would not be noticed. So surprised that at the end the staff brought a plate with a candle, truffle chocolates, and macaroons, complete with Happy Birthday message, which was a lovely gesture. It was good that we could choose from the excellent Dessert menu to complete lunch if we wished, but the set menu was so substantial that we had no room for dessert! Overall a great experience that I would not hesitate to recommend to others and hopefully repeat myself.
Possibly the worst and most expensive Chinese meal I’ve had for a very long time
I can accept the limited menu, but on specifics the food was simply terrible
The ribs requires another hour to tenderise, the sauce was lacking. The chilli prawn stater was the best thing, with not much competition. The dry spice chicken, barely reached that note of chilli and pepper that’s required, the tofu and pork clay pot was left barely touched.
Nice service, but it needs a revamp on the food side
