Had the pre-theatre menu - 3 courses for £18. Excellent value and very friendly service.
Thank you JuMo
There is a lot of choice of places to eat in this part of London. We were staying at the Montcalm hotel so decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. The food, service and ambience were great. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We had a starter and a main course, both of which were delicious and nicely presented. It was a bit pricy but ok for London. My only gripe would be that there is a bar area at the entrance which was noisy. Fortunately, we were able to sit well away from the entrance.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We hope to see you again
Good food but awful service - had a late lunch starting at 2 and after 2:45 staff disappeared to set up tables for evening service. Did not get out til 4pm and had no time for coffee. Fine if you go early but avoid later in the day.
Thank you for your review Happyeater, I am sorry that your experience wasn't an amazing one. I have passed your comments to the management team to review and I do hope we see you again. Best wishes Gemma
Cod swapped for hake and portion very small. Pie was ok but not impressive. Fish cake was nice. Service was lacking something: not as attentive as could be, could have been smarter or more coherent company outfits, didn’t connect with us. All in all was ok but wouldn’t go back. Hope this is constructive criticism as it could be really great with some attention to detail.
Hi Amandab, thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I am so sorry we were not able to 'WOW' you on this visit. I will pass your comments to the team but if you do have a chance, do drop me an email firstname.lastname@example.org many thanks Gemma
Enjoyable lunch at the Chiswell Street Dining Rooms. We are both allergic to garlic, but the waiters had noted this and were very clear as to the two options that we could not choose, all others being fine. My fish and chips was particularly good.
Thank you for your review, we are so pleased you enjoyed the fish and chips!
The food was fantastic and has been consistently so over the years. Service was attentive. Would recommend the restaurant for a business lunch.
Thanks so much RussLondon for some great feedback. We hope to see you soon
We (2 people) ate there on Friday night. We arrived at 9.00pm. We were the only people eating there and only 2 more people had arrived by the time we left. The menu was good and the food itself was good. We ordered one beer, a bottle of sancerre, bread and duck samosas, fish and chips and hake. All were well prepared and tasted good. The service was attentive and friendly. The total bill £123 (£50 of which was for the wine).
Thank you for your review
Excellent customer service, staff are very friendly. It was my mums birthday weekend and they brought out a lovely little chocolate cake on a nicely decorated plate.
Thank you for your review, we are thrilled you enjoyed your visit!
Great working lunch location. Good food and you can be in and out under an hour.
And the people know that is what you want. Speed but wrapped in quality food
Thanks so much for this
We were drawn in by the BYOB Monday offer, and indeed this is great value, as there is not even a nominal corkage charge. My rabbit offal starter was brilliant and the main course lamb almost as good. Service was keen, but a bit stretched in terms of the number of waitrons for the number dining - perhaps the BYOB offer brought in more people than they thought, although the waiter told me by no means everybody was using that offer. Similarly the kitchen was clearly working on a slightly overstretched "get it right rather than get it soon" basis ... which was no problem for us, given the quality of the results, and with two BYOB bottles, a fine Prosecco and a 1990 red Chateau de Beaucastel, to savour. I did buy a couple of Espresso Martinis made with white chocolate, which were also brilliant. The decor is fairly bland corporate hotel style, but pleasant enough. May upgrade to 5* overall on a subsequent visit - which there will definitely be - particularly if the food quality is sustained. The value would be good to very good for the area, even without BYOB but with that offer, no question, outstanding.
Thanks so much for taking the time to give your feedback, we do hope you join us again soon!
Our first time and we loved it. The meal was lovely and service was fantastic!
Thanks Ingrid, look forward to seeing you again soon
Food was excellent and a real bargain. Service was really slow unfortunately. It took almost 90mins for two courses and as we had a show at the Barbican at 7.45 we didn't have time to order dessert which was a real shame as I'm sure it would have been amazing. Would go again, when I don't have a show to catch
Thanks so much for this review
Classy food on the Summer Set Menu. Very good value. The only complaint is being given the a la carte menu without the fixed price menu (though our booking had specified fixed price preference). We had to ask for it.
Thanks for this, we hope to see you back with us again soon and we will pick up the comments around the menu that was presented to you
Great food on the set menu and a fantastic price!
Thanks JulesT, we hope to see you back soon
Amazing food -£18 for a 3 course dinner including a glass of lovely red wine. Outstanding food, I just can’t believe it was this cheap!
Chloe the waitress was brilliant and the table service was on point.
Rui the manager was excellent and made the evening even more perfect.
Thank you for joining us, we hope you come again soon.
We had the pre-theatre menu which was excellent value. The food was well cooked and nicely presented.
Our second course took a while to arrive but the waiting staff apologised and dealt with it graciously.
We would definitely return.
Great to read MarkB, we look forward to seeing you back soon. Thanks Gemma
Excellent service, food and amazing value. Will definitely return soon!
Choose this place for pre-theatre meal ahead of a performance at the Barbican. Menu was very good value and there was a drink thrown in the the price. The food was good - the home cured salmon was a bit on the fatty side and could had done with a bit of lemon juice (or some such) but that is a minor point. The atmosphere at that time (6pm) a bit lacking but that is don’t unusual for pre-theatre dining.
Thank you for your review and feedback. We hope you enjoyed your show at the Barbican too!
No one was at the desk to meet us, not told what was off the menu that evening, staff were more concerned with a party they were hosting in the back.
Hi KimberleyM, I am so sorry that your experience wasn't a fantastic one. Please could you drop me an email when you have a chance to discuss your feedback? Many thanks Gemma email@example.com
Friendly and warm atmosphere!!!
Great review!!! Thanks for joining us and I do hope we see you back soon Thanks Gemma
Enjoyed our ore theatre meal three courses
Delicious food particularly enjoyed the gingerbread macaron. Very good value
Thank you Angel, we hope you come back and see us again soon.
Convenient pre-performance venue for Barbican. We had pre-theatre menu. Not outstanding but passable.
Summer set menu was good value, food was great and came promptly which helped as we were due for the theatre. Waitress didn't realise our drinks lacked the key alcoholic ingredient, quite visually evident, however rectified immediately once notified.
Hi Else88, thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We do hope to see you back again. Best wishes Gemma
A great selection of food and catering exceedingly well for food allergies with very attentive and switched-on staff who knew the ingredients of all the dishes. Well done!
The team will so pleased to read this! Thank you for taking the time to review.
Perfect - lunch with an international guest so appreciate the British menu. Great food - good quick service. Just what we needed.
Thank you so much for taking the time to review us! See you soon!
We arrived late after the theatre. The team was very welcoming despite that. Food really good - pimentos de pardon, duck rolls, hake plus beans. There aren’t so many alternatives around the Barbican for later eating and this is much the best
Thank you SarahB for your review, we hope to see you back soon!
Client Lunch, Given a very pleasant round table. The specials Lunchtime menu was good value and choice very good for a Friday Lunch. Service is very attentive and not intrusive on conversations. Wine list good and overpriced. Very good value , good food and service, ambience was good for what I wanted .
We had a great meal here, and the staff were really accommodating for our needs. We stayed at the hotel and were upgraded which was really fun!!
Team lunch with colleagues, food was really good. Service very nice. We'll come back
We arrived a bit too late to try the theatre menu (which seems to be very good value) so ordered from the a la carte. It is a bit pricey, but the food was delicious - with a broad range of choices for vegetarians / vegans as well as carnivores. Although the service was very friendly and not overbearing, they were slow to pour the wine and to bring the bill, which meant we weren't able to get away as quickly as we hoped. I would go again, though.
Lovely food and great service, as expected. Price matches venue and expectations.
Excellent service and friendly staff.
Had pre theatre dining, great choice and food .
Good food and reasonable service but a little more expensive than it needs to be, particularly the wine list.
Location is particularly good for the Barbican and pre-show menus are available. The a la carte has a half gastro-pub half restaurant look about it which probably suits the clientele around the area; they can presumably afford the tasty but over-priced sides.
Bar service was particularly good but the restaurant was understaffed for the size and the numbers attending.
Both the starters and mains we had were well prepared and presented and we cleared our plates; what more can you ask?
The room needs a few in to generate the right ambience but I expect there will always be a willing clientele.
This was my first time at Chiswell St Dining Rooms, we had the pre-theater menu and a beautiful bottle of French rose wine from Provence, the experience was outstanding, food was excellent and the service impeccable. Will be coming back.
We had a meal at 5:45 before going to a show at the Barbican which is right next door. The staff were very courteous and attentive and made sure that we were promptly seated and finished in plenty of time for the 8pm start of the concert. The food was excellent - the kidney starter was magnificent and everyone was very happy with their meal. There is a decent wine list and we had a couple of bottles of Albariño which was a bit pricey but par for the course for the City I guess. All in all a great experience and we would visit again.
Decent place for a business lunch. Nice venue and good menu
Quick and easy
Highly recommended, the food was first class and the service attentive without being intrusive.
Excellent food ... attentive staff ... well cone! I arrived early and was able to enjoy a coffee and get some work done before my guest (and the other customers arrived).
Lovely setting and good food, though service was rather slow and inattentive
