Team lunch with colleagues, food was really good. Service very nice. We'll come back
We arrived a bit too late to try the theatre menu (which seems to be very good value) so ordered from the a la carte. It is a bit pricey, but the food was delicious - with a broad range of choices for vegetarians / vegans as well as carnivores. Although the service was very friendly and not overbearing, they were slow to pour the wine and to bring the bill, which meant we weren't able to get away as quickly as we hoped. I would go again, though.
Lovely food and great service, as expected. Price matches venue and expectations.
Excellent service and friendly staff.
Had pre theatre dining, great choice and food .
Good food and reasonable service but a little more expensive than it needs to be, particularly the wine list.
Location is particularly good for the Barbican and pre-show menus are available. The a la carte has a half gastro-pub half restaurant look about it which probably suits the clientele around the area; they can presumably afford the tasty but over-priced sides.
Bar service was particularly good but the restaurant was understaffed for the size and the numbers attending.
Both the starters and mains we had were well prepared and presented and we cleared our plates; what more can you ask?
The room needs a few in to generate the right ambience but I expect there will always be a willing clientele.
This was my first time at Chiswell St Dining Rooms, we had the pre-theater menu and a beautiful bottle of French rose wine from Provence, the experience was outstanding, food was excellent and the service impeccable. Will be coming back.
We had a meal at 5:45 before going to a show at the Barbican which is right next door. The staff were very courteous and attentive and made sure that we were promptly seated and finished in plenty of time for the 8pm start of the concert. The food was excellent - the kidney starter was magnificent and everyone was very happy with their meal. There is a decent wine list and we had a couple of bottles of Albariño which was a bit pricey but par for the course for the City I guess. All in all a great experience and we would visit again.
Decent place for a business lunch. Nice venue and good menu
Quick and easy
Highly recommended, the food was first class and the service attentive without being intrusive.
Excellent food ... attentive staff ... well cone! I arrived early and was able to enjoy a coffee and get some work done before my guest (and the other customers arrived).
Lovely setting and good food, though service was rather slow and inattentive
Good food and very reasonable price. Nice wine list and a good house red. My colleague had the fish (halibut?) and it was excellent. Excellent accommodating service.
Good food as always but service was poor. Restaurant pretty empty but very difficult to get the attention of the staff.
Service was attentive, polite and not at all intrusive; food was mediocre and a little underseasoned, as if it was from frightened to taste of anything.
More of a noisy bar than a nice restaurant. Sorry we booked here as the bar is so noisy and music so loud that in the restaurant area we had to lean in at our table to talk and still couldn't hear each other. Staff didn't seem to care either when we complained. Food was good and pre-theatre service was good. I wouldn't return here.
Great food if a little pricey but the service is soooo slow. Haven’t been for a few years. But the situation was the same.
dont go during xmas party season. too loud. foid very good tho
Great dining experience
Food was excellent
Service was really professional
Recommend the place
Waiting staff slow to take our orders; weren’t sure of what the “pie of the day” was when asked. Even slower to offer us a wine menu. One of our party dropped a starter knife on the floor before the food was served. This was picked up by waiting staff but no replacement was offered.
Food was excellent, all enjoyed their meals thoroughly.
We dined pre a concert at the Barbican. With only an hour for dinner they managed to make it a great experience. Delicious food and fast service. They also make their bread in the premises which was absolutely delicious. We will be hack. And will spend longer there !
Just not very good.
1. Advertised pre Theatre dinner was not available (why? It was in the website)
2. Very poor language skills from server
3. Duck breast was almost raw
4. Apple and black cabbage turned out to be kale
5. Intrusive music
Will not be returning. The Jugged Hare just down the street is better in every way
Will always use when in the area great if visiting The Barbican.
Went here for a quiet meal and was very pleased with the booking process; someone called to confirm my reservation. We had nibbles, starters and a mains. The hostess was knowledgeable about the menu and also gave us confident suggestions which is always nice. The dessert portion was small and the decoration inside could do with some freshening up.
Overall we had a great experience and I would definitely go there again.
The food was good. Our first server had no idea of the specials, what gin was at the bar, whether or not they could cook us a steak (!), etc. Our second server was lovely and attentive.
Great dinner with friends - 3 of us had the pie of the day and weren't disappointed. Great service as well.
Been here before, like the overall experience. Need a few more lighter/healthier options but on the whole.. very good
Perfect for a business lunch!
Our heads were turned by the 50% off food promotion and on reflection I wish we had gone elsewhere. Whilst the starters were good, the mains were terrible. Steaks were far too tough and I had to wrestle with the knife just to be able to cut into it. My friend had the lamb, which was as tough as old boots.
Given we were eating late on a Friday night none of us had any desire to send the food back so begrudgingly sat through and ate the mains.
Service was good and all staff were friendly, perhaps the chef just wanted to go home early as i’d always had a good impression of this place, but unfortunately won’t be rushing back.
Food was absolutely delicious! Ideal for a business meal that's a nice balance of formal without being stuffy.
We had our wedding here in December 2017 - the best day of our lives! We came back 6 months later for a pre-theatre meal and it didn't disappoint. The food was, as always, absolutely delicious and we were treated to the most fantastic service. We love this place!
Cute venue. Casual and classy. Convenient for a business lunch in the City.
Hotel restaurant, not up to scratch. Silly portions, poor service
Chiswell Dining Rooms is an excellent restaurant. The staff is welcoming and very efficient, the food is delicious and combines "classics" (such as steak pies) with more select dishes. The place does not get too noisy, the seats are comfortable. Definitely a great restaurant.
The food did not reflect the cost. Food was average at best but overly priced and I had to order separate sides for my main [salmon]. I would not go again. Disappointing experience.
Staff were friendly and polite.
Incredibly slow waiter service
We arrived to an empty restaurant (lunchtime on a Wednesday). I explained to the waiter that we were pressed for time. Our one and only course took 25 minutes to arrive (shepherds pie and a burger). The pie looked very nice and my dining partner was happy to wolf it down. My burger looked terrible (flattened and soggy) but was actually very nice indeed.
So... food fine or better. Speed - lousy. Service bland.
Went here on way to Barbican Theatre. Good food and service, though a little noisy.
We greatly enjoyed our dinner here. The service was impeccable - efficient and friendly, Above all, the food was outstanding: cooked with extraordinary skill, it tasked as good as it looked, and that was really, really good. The crispy duck egg, for example, was like a hot scotch egg, but with a non-meat breadcrumb shell and with a soft-poached egg inside. We couldn't work out how it was achieved without overcooking the egg - and it was delicious. Every course was a delight. Only one criticism - the wine list is good but it would have been even better if they actually had the wines that are listed! Our choice was not available.
Decent business lunch, well priced w/ fast turnaround with minimal fuss
