This was our 2nd time dining at Chophouse, and we had high expectations. Last time we dined there, we ordered a 100 day aged chateaubriand which was one of the best steaks I have ever tasted. Sadly, this time they had nothing of the sort on offer, and, in fact, they had sold out of all chateaubriands.
On recommendation, we opted for the 1.1kg porterhouse instead. With the sauces, this was tasty, but lacked the flavour we were expecting, and didn't really stretch between 4 of us- despite all of the sides.

Oysters to start were delicious, as was the scallop - though a bit on the small side for £14.50. Goat's cheese starter was a highlight- beautifully rich. However, the steak tartare lacked seasoning and flavour- though the meat was obviously high quality.
Service throughout was fantastic and drinks were great- though i was a bit disappointed to find out they were pre-mixed and thus could not be tweaked. Some of the cocktails were again a little on the small side for the price.

Bill came to almost £300 for 4 of us with no desserts, three starters and the sharing steak.

The food was almost perfect. My steak wasn't cooked how I asked for hit however it still tasted good and the seasoning on everything was impecable. The man behind the bar and younger male watmiter were fantastic. However the older man was rude abrupt and we waited 25 minutes on our menus as well as the table being 15 minutes late.

Excellent steak however the service was not as previous on this visit.

I’ve never been able to fault the food however we were left waiting to order drinks and our food for a while and when it came to wanting to order again there was no one attending the tables in our region for a good twenty mins.

Otherwise, nice ambience for a date with dim lighting and not too loud. Good cocktail selection. I would recommend the fillet for main and beef tartare to start. The vegetarian option is also currently much improved (gnocchi) from the previous cauliflower dry rub steak which we had found too salty and dry.

Can’t fault the staff! My steak was over cooked and seemed as if it has been reheated? A fillet should be that hard on the outside and cry on the inside and for the price this is unreasonable. Cocktails are lovely.

Great friendly service and food timings were spot on. Starters were lovely, fillet steaks could’ve been a bit thicker and warmer but were tender, tasty and cooked to our preference. Pepper sauce wasn’t as good as my Mums, but few are. Went for a Birthday celebration and the waiter brought out a candlelit ice-cream which was a nice touch. Enjoyed the experience over all but on this occasion felt value for money could have been better.

Sourdough bacon roll was very fatty , my friends and I left a fair bit of it. Main concern was the issue we had with ordering a bloody/Virgin Mary. Our waitress was lovely however I had my 3 month old daughter with me and the car, I asked for a Virgin Mary and was given a Bloody Mary. Waitress came back about ten minutes after serving us our drinks and said I'm really sorry that has alcohol in it!! Luckily I had tasted it and thought they may have made that mistake just before she came back but that's really quite dangerous (imagine I hadn't noticed/ driven!) That is a big mistake to make!

A nice Christmas meal, but not Christmassy at all......
Food nice, limited menu is good. Service was not particularly great even tho’ the restaurant was not busy, but was acceptable.
Value for money was reasonable (only just) due to near city location.
Would we go again..... mmmm, probably not, too much competition in the city that invariably is better on almost every count.

Sadly we picked a day when a noisy bunch were dinning and whilst I appreciate people having a good time we were on a table for two with 24” between us and had to shout to hear each other speak. The food was well presented and tasty but was cold within minutes. Perhaps serving on heated plates might help!
We ordered the sunday roast beef diner and sadly the only gravy seemed to be those from the juice of the meat. Was so looking forward to having a good experience so we could book another visit and have a steak but this has put me off.

Extremely good steak and very tasty big fries. The pepper sauce could have been a bit more thicker though.
Staff is friendly though they asked us if we wanted some bread and buttter while waiting. The bread never arrived, still on it's way I suppose. The very kind waiter told us he was going to explain the menu and all he did was mention everything that was on the menu, 'scuse me but I can read…
Overall a good experience that I will recommend for the tasty en perfectly grilled steak!

Our meal was outstanding in every way. It was our best friend's birthday and we wanted to introduce him and his wife to our favourite restaurant in town. All I can say is that they will be sure to remember the occasion, with the excellent food and service from the Chop House staff the other night.

Very disappointed in this trip to Chop House - this was our third time there and we left feeling ripped off. The service was shockingly slow and took over 40 minutes to get our drinks. We were constantly forgotten about and left waiting.
When the food came, it was cold and disappointing.

Loved the decor, very smart and atmospheric although a bit dark for reading the menu.
Our waiter was very friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable.
We both chose our favourite cut for flavour, the ribeye. When it arrived it looked and smelled wonderful. On cutting it was tough , this completely spoiled our meal. Having to pay for each side dish, you have an expectation of quality, so we were so disappointed with the recommended dripping chips which were soft with little flavour. I chose the blue cheese sauce , there were no pieces of cheese visible and the flavour was poor. I had an ice cream for dessert followed by coffee which were delicious, though at these prices a piece of fudge or sweet treat should really be included.
So disappointed and at these prices not good enough.

Me and my partner visited Leith recently and was recommended to go here. Thank God we did. One of the best dining experiences we have ever had. Food, drink and most of all the service was perfect. Thankyou chop house. I forget the name of our waiter who says he was part Philippine with a small ponytail. Sorry. But you were amazing and a great value to the restaurant.

Food and service were both excellent with very friendly and helpful staff. Easily and discretely managed food allergies for one of our party.
My only criticism was that no sides were served with the main courses, and that wasn’t clear enough for us to realise until the food arrived.
Otherwise, we enjoyed an excellent lunch before the international rugby!

I've been to Chop House, Leith, a few times, but this was the first visit for brunch and I can't fault it. On the booking I clicked the box for "birthday" and my boyfriend was surprised with an unexpected birthday treat from the staff. As well as the fantastic food and service, this lovely gesture put a smile on his face for the whole day.
He had the full breakfast and 3 coffees because they were so good and I had the smashed avocado which was really tasty. We both had the Bloody Marys, which were great too.
Already made our next booking!
