Chop House Leith Ratings and Reviews
We had a special birthday lunch here and everything was really great. Friendly welcome and efficient service. Delicious food. My fillet steak was one of the best I have had ever. Teeny bit salty (which I liked but maybe not everyone would). This place is very much about steaks ( excellent range and quality) and other choices are pretty restricted - but nice, nonetheless. The a la carte menu is not cheap but seems good value, except that any veg is charged extra as a 'side' which seems just a tiny bit mean - even just a wee tomato and mushroom to garnish the steak would be nice... The Express Lunch menu looked surprisingly reasonable, with a wider range of choices, so that would be well worth trying. Good wine list. Nothing below £20 a bottle but well chosen. The restaurant has a well designed classic/ modern (trendy - but not TOO trendy) feel. Not busy (Thursday lunchtime) and not exactly cosy (hard surfaces everywhere, so could get noisy if full), the ambiance was calm and relaxed - music a bit loud when we went in but seemed to fade in a bit later (or they changed to a better playlist)? Nice to get a booth at the window, as inner tables for two are quite close together, so probably worth booking ahead. There is a nice semi private area with round table for about ?6-8? - good for a special group / meeting/ family party.
I was absolutely delighted with my experience at the chop house, it was my girlfriends 20th birthday and I asked if they could do anything to make it a little extra special and we were both given comp prosecco which was a lovely touch and very much appreciated, my starter of crab claw was stunning and was a big portion. Also the steak for the main that I had was the best steak I had ever eaten, with a lovely smokey taste, absolutely stunning, better than the likes of miller and Carter and Dakota. It was also cheaper than the two above, so could not complain at all, 5 stars!
We dined at the chop house on a busy Saturday night. We arrived slightly early for our 7.30pm table, our table was ready so we were seated straight away.
The restaurant had a great atmosphere! Our waitress was very attentive and had a great knowledge of the steaks on offer. We selected a fillet & a 55 day aged sirloin, both were cooked to perfection!
We both said the steaks were one of the best we’ve tasted!
Overall we had a lovely time with excellent food and can’t wait to return. Thanks!
Without a doubt one of the best cooked steaks that I have, had in quite a while. Chips could have done with being double fried -- a small complaint -- I also had the crisp lettuce in blue cheese dressing which was very nice.
My son had the vegetarian option. Which he say was well cooked and prepared and also substantial and tasty. Praise indeed.
I also had the cheese board, three good Scottish cheeses well presented.
On price, this is not a cheap restaurant, but it does offer good value for money. The food and service is outstanding for the price.
One other thing, do try the cocktails. Again well presented and very good.
This was our first visit and we thoroughly enjoyed. Service and food very good, staff knowledgeable about their menu. I've got to give 4-5 for food as one if the desserts we had was poor, a delicious dish if it had been cooked a bit longer. Staff were quick to respond and thanked us for bringing to their attention and our bill reflected this. Have already started spreading the good word of the standard of our visit.
I literally cannot fault Chop House at all. I felt it was priced quite reasonably and was better value and quality than some of the more common steak houses in the city centre. I live close to the restaurant so it's no trouble for me to walk there but I can see that the location would be a slight downside for some. The service was impeccable from the moment that we walked in and the food was outstanding. I will definitely be back and recommend to all my friends!
Out for dinner. Good food. Excellent service from all members of staff particularly the managers on that evening. Despite being heavily pregnant, she was ever-present, ever-accommodating and it was by some distance the best service we have ever received in our years of dining out. Well recommended.
