Best of British beef, butchered & dry-aged in house and cooked over an open flamed charcoal grill. Chop House Leith has brought an innovative blend of classic British steakhouse and cocktail bar to Constitution Street & is an exciting addition to the Shore’s vibrant culinary scene, brought to you by the team behind Monteiths & the White Horse Oyster Bar. Provenance is at the centre of the offer and the restaurant uses the finest beef sourced from artisan suppliers across Scotland. The meat is butchered on site and dry aged for up to 90 days to add flavour, increase tenderness & then the beef cooked on an open flame charcoal grill, specially designed to give a subtle smoky flavour. Fantastic food is matched by an extensive wine list from around the world and exceptional cocktail list. Open Mon - Fri for lunch and dinner, Sat & Sun for weekend breakfast, lunch and Sunday roast! They have another Chop House on East Market St. & Bruntsfield, Edinburgh.

First time at this wee gem and won’t be our last. Service from ‘Nacho’ the maitre D was spot on and he was knowledgable about the cuts of steak and the best way to have them cooked. I went with my partner for a birthday meal and the food was exceptional and the ambience really chilled. The interior decor was modern funky and industrial and perfect for the millennial crowd. Limited menu overall but what there is is gastronomically good. The bar area is also a nice touch and separate from the main dining which means you can stay longer and have one of their quirky cocktails or a quality spirit. This is the first time we have been to the chop house and we will be going to their sister restaurant at the Arches, Market Street in due course.

One of my friends suggested dining out at the restaurant. So the booking was for a party of 3.

The food was excellent, especially if one likes steak. The Medium Rare Porterhouse was scrumptious, particularly with the peppercorn sauce.

We had a wait for our table, but the wait was certainly worth it. We had a relaxing evening, helped by a pre-dinner cocktail each, a couple of bottles of wine that were shared, a post-prandial each and best of all Alex from Crete who looked after us really well.

Definitely go back again.

My husband and I were visiting Scotland from Los Angeles and read about Chop House online. It was by far our best meal of our entire 2 week stay. The food was outstanding and the service was as well. We especially liked our waitress named Alex.

Really rude service, things forgotten and when we reminded them we were waiting we were snapped at even though the restaurant was only half full. Things such as milk for tea or toast were ignored even though we asked several times. I asked for a Bloody Mary to be vegetarian and was told the mix was prepared with beef stock. When I asked if it was possible just to make me a simple version the waitress rolled her eyes and said "I'll have to ask again!" then I waited about 20 minutes for it to just appear. At the end we waited to pay for a while before getting up to do so at the bar and the other waiter said "I was going to bring the card machine but you weren't paying attention". I tried to ask about a member of staff I knew had worked there previously and was told "he's gone" before the waiter snapped at my friend who's card contactless chip wasn't working. The whole experience was mortifying as we've been a lot in the past and told our friends it was lovely only for half the food not to appear or be unripe in the case of the avocado toast.

We were celebrating our daughters dissertation result and we could not have chosen a better place. Amazing food. We all had steak and afterwards we all agreed it was the best steak we had ever eaten. The meal was just beautiful the staff were wonderful and we were even given some places to visit whilst we were in Edinburgh. Would definitely go back the next time we are in the city.

When in Edinburgh, you should really take the time/ effort to go to Chophouse Leith. The little ateakhouse, great ambience, great staff and overall lovely food (though i do recommend the porterhouse!!).

Smaller than expected on the inside so worth booking. Good atmosphere with lovely service from many staff, catered to well. Food served in good timing and very fresh. Of high quality making it worth the money. Amazing cocktails which is unusual for a restaurant as the usual main focus is food.

Service was excellent and there was no problem when I phoned up to say we were running late however the steaks didn’t really live up to expectations.
Fillets were wonderful and cooked to perfection, especially as the two girls who had them had originally wanted them well done but were persuaded to have them medium. They loved them and the small piece I managed to pinch was melt in the mouth gorgeous.
Not so the rib eyes. All were perfectly cooked medium rare and very tasty but horrendously sinewy with lots of grizzle. Made it very difficult to really enjoy them (actually had better from M&S). When paying that much for a steak I’d expect better.
Chocolate brownie was fantastic and the availability of dairy free ice cream kept my daughter happy.
Schiehallion on tap kept me happy but if Bitter and Twisted was also on tap I’d be in heaven.
All in all a really nice night and and a great place to celebrate a double graduation!
We’ll be back but will try something other than the rib eye next time.

After dining here two previous times before and having a wonderful experience, we decided to head here for fathers day - of which I'm so disappointed that we did!

We ended up with a very over priced meal and didnt even get the main course we actually went for! No lobster left, no Chateaubriand left, one tiny dish of chips arrived between 4 of us - even though we had ordered two of the sharing plates, the waitress was lovely, but had only been at the restaurant two weeks so when we asked about the various cuts, she had no clue and then took an incredible amount of time to come back with an answer

Dont think I will be rushing back here again

Chop House Leith is reliably awesome and while it was quite busy, particularly for a Monday, the service was great. Our waitress was fantastic....service with a smile and some humour too and clearly knowledgeable about the menu despite being very new to the job. I was delighted that despite booking a table only the day before, my request for one of the booths was accommodated. The absence of smaller sharing portions meant we were forced out of our more standard order, but this was actually great because we tried a new format, that included sharing a half lobster/sirloin combination, as well as venturing on straw fries (amazing) and multiple starters including the delicious scotch egg.

We shall return!

We arrived about 20 minutes early for our table and said to the waiter that we would have a drink whilst we waited for our table to be ready. At 9.15 we asked if we could move to the table. We were quickly told that they were running behind (or there was a double booking) so our table would not be ready for another 50 minutes. We were hungry and did not want to wait. We were offered the “private room” - for the four of us - even though it was a table for six. We thought this was fine, although slightly put out that it was considered we would wait 50 minutes for a table before this was offered.

The food was great. The service was fine but it is a shame that we initially thought we were going to have to wait for 50 minutes! Especially since at that time of night it was unlikely we’d be able to walk into another restaurant. We were offered a free round of drinks but this didn’t materialise (not that we were after it - we didn’t chase it up - but don’t offer it if you won’t honour it). It is a lovely restaurant and the food is great but perhaps a better way to manage lateness which impacts on others needs to be considered.

Myself and 3 friends came to the Chop House in Leith for lunch on Tuesday 22nd May looking forward to it as we'd heard great things.
We arrived just before 12.45, ordered drinks and made our choices. There were only 2 other tables in so it wasn’t at all busy but it took a while for our drinks to come out after which we waited for our 1st course. And waited. And waited. Finally at about 1.20pm, we stopped our waitress and that we had to be back at work for 2pm. She apologised, assuring us that the food was being plated up but we asked could they please bring all of the food out together to save time. Another 10 minutes went by and still nothing despite other tables, who had arrived after us, having their food served ahead of us.
A red-haired gentleman (Floor Manager?) passed by so I explained that we'd been there nearly an hour with no food. He immediately corrected me, saying that it hadn’t only been 40 minutes (!) and said that the food was being plated up. I responded that we had already been told that 10 minutes ago to which he shrugged and repeated that it would be out shortly. Another 5 minutes passed with no food and the manager came back over, leant on the table and started with the words, "Right, so ok, you were waiting for 40 minutes," going on to say that he would remove the cost of the starters from our bill to say sorry. He didn't look in the slightest bit sorry and then rambled on with something about good customer service before disappearing off again.
The food finally arrived. My scallop and pig cheek starter comprised two pygmy scallops and half-cremated bacon and was cold. My friends were similarly unimpressed with theirs. Finally the main arrived. Mine was ok, if barely warm, but my friends’ meals (squid & chicken salads) were cold and tasteless. The Manager stopped by again and drivelled something about recognising us from a previous visit (none of us had visited before) and how he prized good customer service. None of us will be returning.

I've been to the chop House several times and every time it is an absolute treat. Most recently however I went for breakfast and, while although a little steeper than some price wise, the food could not have been better and the staff were great. Also, free bloody Marys if you book in advance. What isn't to like?
