Chop House Leith
The meat is dry aged onsite for up to 90 days to add flavour, increase tenderness then cooked on a charcoal grill, specially designed to give a subtle smoky flavour. Our fantastic food offering is matched by an extensive wine list from around the world and exceptional cocktail list. We have another Chop House in Bruntsfield & East Market St.

Have to say I'm bitterly disappointed after this visit. We were the only 2 people in the restaurant and the service was utterly shocking. Small stuff like bringing water over and just dumping it on the table without pouring and walking off. Actually the staff never poured wine or drinks except at the point of opening the wine. We weren't asked if we wanted to taste it / check it either. I even had to get up and go to the bar to order another bottle of wine as the staff were just chatting in the corner. The server broke the cork in the first bottle of Cab, finally opened the second one and then he made a mess with it. They then ran out of Cab (as he'd screwed up the first one) so we switched to a different wine and he did it again! I doubt he's ever opened wine before as he referred to 'corking the wine twice in one day'... he clearly knows nothing about wine. Snapping corks and wine being corked are two entirely different things. And on to the food... An £80 sharing steak and it came with one measly small pot of bone marrow gravy that was runny and tasteless, nothing like the usually rich meaty / glossy gravy Chophouse normally serve. What's happened to this place... I did mention the gravy to another server when we paid but she just said 'sorry about that' and walked off. One of the worst restaurant experiences I can remember. I'm gutted as I loved this being so close and was a Chophouse regular, but it's off to the competitor in town for me now. Shame not to support local business but they don't deserve my custom again. I wouldn't advise anyone to go here, it'll be a waste of money.
It’s great meat for sure, cooked to perfection. Excellent, lovely staff - the ambient is way too noisy and it’s absolutely overpriced: I got a bottle of wine for 25£ whilst the selling price is 5£ and some cuts are almost £100.
I had a nice experience but I’m not sure I’ll be coming back anytime soon. Terrible for dates.
The food is good but is overpriced for what you get. Have to buy sides in addition to an already expensive steak. I've had better elsewhere.
We paid £20 in a taxi to get there , we were given a table at the bar which was about the size of a chopping board. Ridiculous! It’s just pure greed . Can’t imagine how they would get 2 plates on it . The waitress was apologetic and had had the same response before. The manager would not come near us so we left . Really disappointed as we have always enjoyed the chophouse on the royal mile.
Really enjoyed the food. All very tasty.
Amazing steak and onion rings.
We found the restaurant extremely noisy which wasn't really what we were looking for to celebrate our 10 year anniversary but that's just a personal opinion not a negative point.
Good was absolutely delicious, service was exemplary and the Old Fashioneds went down a bit too smoothly! Perfect spot to celebrate our anniversary.
Had a delicious meal for our 15th wedding anniversary. Food was delicious and service fantastic. Only thing that we would call out, as a couple that don’t drink, is that we were charged the same (£9) each for a virgin mojito as a regular one advertised on the menu so just be aware. A bit of a surprise when the bill came! However great atmosphere and great night.
40th celebrations, staff were lovely, food delicious. Fillet steak, truffle chips.
We had the porterhouse, mushrooms, sourdough bread, chips, burnt chilli greens and a red wine from South Africa. It was a delicious meal and the service was excellent!
Great food and service, literally the only thing on the plate was a steak which was a little uninspiring, some colour from veg would have been great
Great welcome and offer to sit in bar area with a drink while our table was prepared, as we were early. Food was perfect. A simple menu but well chosen variety and perfectly cooked. Service relaxed, friendly but professional. Loved it.
My meal was ribs, slaw and chips. I would expect the meat to fall off the bone and it didn't the meat was hard, there was supposed to be a BBQ flavour which was quite bland the same description, bland, could also be applied to the blue cheese dip.
This was one of the best meals we have had. Everything about the food, service and ambience was amazing. Took my husband for a grown-up birthday treat. Thoroughly recommend.
Really nice food, friendly staff nice drinks and a well kept venue.
Best steak I’ve had in years. All the food was great. Could do with a a larger wine list but other than that all great.
EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT FOOD & DRINK WISE
BACK GROUND MUSIC JUST A LITTLE BIT LOUD
First visit to the restaurant will definitely be back. The staff were lovely and the food was amazing. Highly recommend.
Absolutely amazing. The Monkfish Satay was bursting with flavour and cooked to perfection. Coal Roasted Chicken was also outstanding.
Great food. Maybe a bit over priced but then you get what you pay for. Excellent service food was tasty and hot
First time here and just loved everything about it. Outstanding food, fantastic ambiance and staff who demonstrated great customer care. Can’t wait to return
Disappointed lobster not available. Had monkfish satay instead which was delicious however straw fries difficult to eat without them jumping off plate when trying to cut them. Panna cotta delicious.
Exceptional dinner at Chop House Leith (6/8/21). Steak and sides offer was amazing value. Cocktails and desert were faultless. Would recommend to all.
Long wait to get any course, we were in well over an hour before we got our main. My husband got rib eye, which he described as chewy, Mac n cheese dry. Walnut shell in salad (did complain about that).
Really disappointed as it was my husband’s birthday and we thought this was a good steak restaurant, sadly not.
Great food and wine, great service..
Amazing food and lovely staff/atmosphere. Look forward to coming back!
Everything about Chop House Leith was absolutely fantastic. From the time we walked in until we left we were treated wonderfully. The food was perfect, and we were shocked that the portions were big (for us, anyways). I had a steak (medium rare) that was actually medium rare with the greens as a side (perfectly seasoned) and my partner had the monkfish skewers and we had a mozzarella appetizer and panna cotta for dessert to share. We were initially nervous that adding dessert would be too much (we were already very full) but it was honestly so light. And the staff were amazing, we had a later reservation (9:30) and we left at 11--they really should've kicked us out. 10/10 would go again 10/10 would recommend it to everyone.
Good food, good service
Lovely food and service I would go again. Recommend the old fashioned
Enjoyable meal. Quality of steaks good and well cooked to our requirements. Menu restricted presumably through no fault of the restaurant. Could do with a couple more dessert options
Definitely worth a visit
Great place to enjoy good food! Always love visiting Chophouse!
we have been regulars of the chop house since it opened in 2015. we haven’t been since lockdown so we’re excited for our favourite steak. it was nice, but just not wow! steak was a very deep cut for a rib eye. the chips were under and the slaw was just a bit meh. we enjoyed it but think we will start to explore other establishments. we however, couldn’t fault our waitress! she was a delight.
Very nice and wonderfully cooked food. We were seated on the high seats and that area was lacking atmosphere.
Fantastic food and wine!!!!
Excellent food in a noisy but attractive space served by a really pleasant and efficient server. Expensive.
Really nice place and great food. The staff are very friendly and the service was quick on our visit.
We had a nice meal but service slow and felt meal did not reflect the price. £4.50 for 2 slices of bread that we requested as the food was taking so long. Limited menu but food was nice but not exceptional.
Amazing food & service!! Recommend the Porterhouse and Mac & cheese.
No burgers left which left one of party limited for choice. Steaks are good. Other food on menu very average. Skinny fries way too greasy.
Very over cooked, we did receive a discount. And the waiter was excellent.
