Chotto Matte
What is Nikkei?
Years ago Japanese immigrants travelled to Peru for work and could not find their authentic ingredients; to overcome this they used local ingredients to substitute. Nikkei was born.
What is Chotto Matte
It is the experience.

This has been our favourite restaurant for many years now and it never fails to deliver a great meal with amazing food and top notch service.
If you’ve never been then I’d highly recommend a visit, no one I know who’s been there has ever been disappointed.
Amazing food and drinks, ambiance, music was so cool, lighting was amazing. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Food was a reasonable price. But half the bill was actually on drinks. My only criticism is that drinks should be slightly cheaper!
Everything was amazing, service and food! The night was perfect! The only tiny problem was the air con. Got very cold...
But that couldn’t ruin what a great experience we had.
Thanks to both FOH and BOH!
Fantastic evening atmosphere was great & food first class
Delicious food but set menu hugely overpriced for not enough food. Amazing flavours but we left hungry. Wobbly tables, inattentive waiting staff and noisy. A very expensive evening- not worth the spend.
A great selection of delicious food and amazing service which made for an overall very enjoyable experience. Highly recommend this lovely restaurant as long as you are willing to spend minimum £40 a head (incl wine).
Loved eating at Chotto Matte, the food was some of the best I’ve ever eaten, simply delicious!!! So many highlights, the sushi, ceviche, tempura, beef heart, chicken teriyaki, all superb. The atmosphere and location are both great, and overall we hugely enjoyed our evening there.
The only minor gripes were that we did feel the waiter was hovering over us almost the entire meal, repeatedly attempting to take drinks and plates before they were quite finished, this was not ideal.
Also, we had the Valentines sharing dessert and it was very disappointing- a spoonful of chocolate fondant each and half a spoon of ice cream, the portion size for two was laughable, and to add insult to injury the fondant did not have a melting middle!
Wished we’d stuck with the main menu desserts, would’ve been a perfect evening!
Fusion cuisine at its best. The dining experience for modern, global London.
Love it there and the food is incredible, the staff are all knowledgable about the food
Food was fresh and delivered with a nice presentation
tried to sit us at the worse table even though place was not very busy
took drinks order which never appeared so had to order again even though the place was not busy
ordered sushi which came after main meal
food though and decor excellent
hate to think how service would be on a busy day
Great as always, managed to upgrade table for 7 to one for 8 last minute and great birthday treat for a friend, see you next time!
Had an amazing time. Took my husband for his birthday. The food was delicious, especially the lamb chops and the tacos.
The birthday message on the dessert was also very special. Had a lovely time and Benoir the waiter was brilliant.
Everything was superb!
The reservation / reception team were friendly and they manage to accommodate my table despite I changed the time booking several time!
The french waiter was extremely professional and knowledgeable about the food!
The food very delicious, I liked the combination of different flavour between South American and Asian cousin...it really works.
The octopus is something to die for!
I will say the sashimi it was not the best I ever had in London or Japan.
The ambience , lights and music simply magical!
It is the best restaurant I have ever eating in London.
Thank you for the amazing service!
Food was very average. service was quite bad, not just our table, could see several around us always trying to find a waiter.
The pre-theatre menu - which we ordered as we needed something quick as we were going to the theatre and we explained this when we arrived - took over 30 mins to arrive. We had to rush through our meal.
A lovely restaurant, great atmosphere. Slightly overpriced drinks (cocktails for £11), but a chocolate dessert to die for:) Very pleasant and attentive service.
30min wait for the table despite arriving at the time of the reservation.
A loud Peruvian/Japanese restaurant crammed with tables too close to each other where by the end of the night you are literally shouting to your dinner guests to be heard.
The waiting staff are very helpful and spend time on explaining the menu - but only once you get hold of them! There are insufficient staff to serve you and I felt it was difficult to attract anyone's attention.
The food was okay but nothing special yet the prices are more in line with up-market Japanese fusion restaurants - yet Chotto Matte is not upmarket. It is loud, crowded and lacks ambience. Don't go hear for a romantic date!
Really great food. Chotto Bento box has great mix of flavours.
Already recommended to my family!
If you go to the restroom, push hard on the door they are heavy!!!
Decided to make a last minute early dinner booking and completely fell in love with this place. The tuna tartar and the pork belly were amazing, the cocktails were delicious. Want to go back ASAP!
Overall, fantastic!
This place is a bit pricey but came here with some friends and we all loved it. The food was amazing and unique and the customer service was excellent! Will definitely come here again!!
Staff are so friendly and made sure the food was up to expectation. The decor was chic with graffitis on the wall and it’s just such a nice relaxed place.
Food was just delicious. Dishes have the perfect size (not too little nor too much). the menu is wide and has interesting options due to the fusion of Asian/Peruvian influences.
Staff members are quite friendly and will go the extra mile just to make sure you have a great experience.
The only cons were that the kitchen was a little slow, and that I was basically sharing table with the couple next to me, which is not acceptable in a restaurant where you easily pay over £50 pp.
Celebrating with my kids a “mother/adult children” weekend!
I booked Chotto Matte for an impromptu Friday night dinner having heard good things about it. Sadly not only did it not live up to the hype, it was a massive disappointment. Everything was just a little bit average, the seats, average. The tempura average, the service average (I ordered rice only to be told by the waitresses afterwards she'd forgotten to order it). The lamb chops, awful! I told the waitress they were a bit fatty, only yo receive the response "yes, I know"!!! The cloakroom, poorly lit so it took about 15 minutes to find our bags, with me using the torch on my phone to navigate. Don't believe the hype!
Requested a seat up stairs 2 weeks in advance and were sat at an end booth table which was perfect. Food as always was amazing and the staff very friendly and attentive. The price is a lot but you feel very full and satisfied. Great Anniversary material.
Polite and helpful staff, nice location and ambience. However, not a great amount of choice for vegetarians. I chose the veg pre-theatre menu and most of the options were cold plates with little taste. Not sure if i simply ordered the wrong thing, although the table next to us were of the same opinion given the price of the end bill. Also not great for vegans, although the waitress and chef did as much as they could to make some of the veg options vegan which was very kind of them.
The food was excellent!!! Passion fruit cocktail lovely but lychee martini a bit disappointed(it’s my usual drink when I out, and flavor wasn’t fresh lychee)I did love octopus and crab rolls . Desserts was nice ,wasn’t my choice, just not lover of pavlova and panakota. Next time I will try black cod and my favorite chocolate fondant ! Definitely come back
Very nice food in the tasting menu. Tender fish in ceviche and sushi with good spices on meat dishes. All pretty refined. Small portions to share but very protein heavy so I was satisfied when we left. Decent wine menu... not crazy prices but expensive. Felt it was still good value for money.
I felt the vegetarian menu was very bad, especially for the amount we paid.
Really enjoyable and excellent food, a lot of choice of dishes
It's a great place for fresh and creative food in interesting atmosphere but the cost is considerable. Perhaps not the best place if you are super hungry but it's fit for foodies.
Had a brilliant time at Chotto Matte for a recent special occasion dinner. We both opted for a pre-theatre menu which was great value and offered lots of variety of dishes. I had the vegetarian menu and it was great, really well thought through options that were tasty and filling. We'll be back to try the tacos with miso next time!
Great place. The food was unbelivible good. If this restaurant would offer non-alcoholic beer and maybe even wine but they didn't.
A perfect brunch and great selection of food on a set menu.
Excellent service and friendly staff.
Absolutely delicious food and attentive service. Can’t wait to return!
The food was excellent. We had a tasting menu and it was really worth it. Service was good but a bit over attentive/eager. At one point the plate was whipped away before we’d finished with it. Great menu.
Food really nice as well as the atmosphere. Unfortunately we had a couple of lack with the service that’s why we decide to remove the service charge from the total bill.
I’m sorry but as I’m working in the hospitality I can’t admit to step up and grab/serve my wine when the ice bucket is placed far away from my table more then once during a Monday lunch where there was just another table seated in the room.
