An excellent meal... a menu adorned with too many tasty options. The scallop starter was full of flavour as was the Ribeye steak - one of the best I've had. A great spot for a special occasion date with expansive views of London, although I'd recommend requesting a table by the window as that's the place to be. An extremely extensive wine list to accompany the superb food made for a great evening.
We had a great meal, very relaxed, we were in the bar and enjoying ourselves, staff made us feel very able to come through to the table, even though it was passed booked time.
Highly recommend, not a cheap day out, but a great view and I am happy to recommend
Really great food and experience.
Tuna tataki was outstanding!
Fillet steak perfect, raspberry soufflé amazing
Overpriced for what it was (2nd visit) - Turbet wasn’t particularly exciting. German Riesling was not a good bottle either. Service was slow with bread and drinks. With the price paid, one would expect better service and complimentary amuse bouche.
Overall okay- just not justifiable to visit again with £100 a head food bill
Great table, great view, fantastic food and amazing service. Pricey but definitely worth it!
Always enjoy this place, probably my favourite restaurant in the City
Has become a bit of an old faithful now. Keep up the good work!
Food was delicious and setting was amazing. Service was hit and miss, twice things were forgotten and we had to chase. Don’t agree with adding a service charge to the bill you should be able to “tip” according to the level of service you receive in this case it wouldn’t of been as much as the 12.5% added to the bill !
Enjoyable lunch except that i was charged for two chease boards and i only had one :-(
We booked a birthday meal for a friend visiting from abroad and it was a pleasant evening although not as enjoyable as on a number of previous occasions that I've eaten here. It was a weekday evening and somehow seemed to lack the atmosphere of previous visits. The serving staff seemed stressed and somewhat perfunctory, perhaps they were unexpectedly understaffed - I overheard one waiter apologising to one table for keeping them waiting for the menu and there was no time for smiling on this evening.
Starters - tuna tataki and crab - were delicious and refreshing, we had the chicken and steak for mains. My rib eye was cooked to order but my friend requested her fillet rare and it was overdone, so she the only person not absolutely happy. On a final note, the toilets were out of order so customers had to walk to the main floor toilets outside the restaurant, these were in terrible condition - handtowels and tissues strewn everywhere and it was rather a shame as usually people come back from the restaurant loos exclaiming about the incredible views!
Overall hopefully just an off day for this restaurant that is normally a really excellent place to enjoy a meal.
As always City Social provided a great place to meet my customers and have a very notable dinner.
I’ve had excellent food here recently. This time the fish was good but I wasn’t keen on the garnish. One loud table didn’t help. Service was slow but it was a busy time of day and this wasn’t an issue previously.
It was absolutely amazing. I really want to come when I am coming back to London. Thank you for a very good experience
I love this restaurant as I do all of JA'a establishments. However, on this occasion my associate had cause to complain about the portion size of the halibut dish. I had the rabbit main course which was perfectly fine and adequate. My associate chose the halibut and it really was a small portion, especially when compared with my dish and a duck dish we spotted near by.
However, this issue notwithstanding, lunch was really good. The wines we chose were exquisite. For desert we shared a rum baba dish, which included slices of mango. Delicious. Of course the location is almost incomparable.
Great food. Great views. Great service. One of my favorite restaurants.
Very nice restaurant, with outstanding views over London, excellent service and attention to detail, a bit pricey, but 'you get what you pay for'. Very extensive wine list.
Having been to many top end restaurants we were left underwhelmed by this experience. You’re paying a large premium for the views - which is understandable - but service and food weren’t up to these high prices.
Service started poorly (“what wine would you like” before we had even received a food menu to decide whether we wanted red/white. Starters coming at the same time as the bread&butter and before our drinks) but picked up towards the end.
We had scallops to start - which was effectively 1 scallop cut into 3 pieces and padded out - for £18 this is a bit miserly.
Wine is overpriced (isn’t it everywhere?!) but having decide on red wine (Lamb and Duck mains) we were a bit surprised that any of the decent heavier reds started at £70 (most previous equivalent restaurants have a few to choose from starting around £50).
I had the duck - which was delicious whilst my fiancée had the lamb. Both beautifully cooked but my partner found her lamb accompaniments not complimenting the meat (particularly a lemon curd type sauce).
Dessert - both the hazelnut praline and raspberry soufflé were underwhelming.
Total price for 2 - £240.
A pleasant experience but we won’t be returning. We were pretty shocked when we noticed the “Michelin Star 2018” plaque on the wall...whilst a decent restaurant overall, this is certainly not deserved based on our experience.
The location is great, but the service was slow. I like to put the tonic in to my own G&T, I got a watered down tasteless drink with a sad bit of a herb, clinging sadly to the side of huge glass.
The restaurant also looks a bit grubby and tired. Shiny surfaces need to be kept perfectly clean or they look awful. And there always needs to be someone on reception. I stood there for what seemed like ages before someone turned up. The food on the other hand was very good and the views are magnificent.
The restaurant itself was lovely. Fantastic views and the food was lovely. However, the whole evening was spoilt by a very loud and obnoxious table of guests (Men) that were very rude and used language i would expect to hear at a football match. Even after being told by the staff they persisted with their verbal onslaught. Due to the restaurant being full we were unable to move to another table.
Fantastic food, perfect attentive (but not too fussy) service in a stunning restaurant that still had a relaxed ambience.
Great views over London from the 24th floor. Very good food, well seasoned and intense flavours. Great service, attentive without being to obtrusive.
Great views and amazing food. The service was outstanding
+ Great view over the city of London
Food and service excellent
- I stupidly drove to City Social And as it’s in the centre of London there is no where to park close by. Nearest car park was a NCP a 10 minutes walk.
The view is stunning, from the 24th floor of tower 42 in the financial district in London, UK. We started with cocktails. I had their take on a Pisco Sour - which is a favorite of mine as I have family in and from Chile. Well, it wasn't much of a Pisco Sour, it was something else altogether, and I have to admit, far better than any Pisco Sour I've ever had! It was chocolatey, sweet and sour, colorful, just a delightful cocktail. My dining companions enjoyed their cocktails as well, and the view from the bar is great.
The food was also superlative. My appetizer was a crab dish that was recommended by our waiter and another more senior service member - they both heartily recommended it above the other appetizer I was considering (an asparagus salad, w/ asparagus in season it was very tempting) even though it was the least costly of all of the appetizers. I appreciated the honest opinions over the upsell! The same consideration came from the sommelier when picking out a bottle of wine. I had a lamb entree that was very good, my wife has a saddle of rabbit, wrapped in bacon, that was dynomite. I would recommend trying the more exotic ingredients when you go as the chef's skills are very high, so why not try something unusual that would be almost impossible to pull off at home?
All in all, I felt we got a very good value for our money, even though it wasn't cheap, City Social has well earned their Michelin star.
I have to say that my visit to City Social was mixed. I arrived with my two daughters an hour early before our dinner table booking to have a celebratory drink for my birthday. The service was beyond slow. Having been asked about 5-10 minutes after our arrival what we would like to drink, we advised the lady that we had not decided as my younger daughter was still deciding on her non alcoholic drink. The lady did not return!!! Eventually after about 20 minutes I asked another lady if we could order. She was quite curt and not overly interested. Order taken, I sat watching our 3 drinks sitting at the bar. No one went to get them. I again had to ask for our drinks to be given to us. Extraordinarily poor service. My husband had been delayed from work but I said to my girls that as soon as he arrived I predicted there would be more attention on our table. Right on cue....buzzing around, couldn't do enough. Outrageous. I was so disappointed that my daughters and I had not received any service whatsoever. Then, when it was time for our table no one came to get us. So AGAIN I had to ask the receptionist this time if we could be taken to our table. No service, no care, no consideration. However I am glad to say that the service received in the restaurant was good. However, for the prices you charge, you did not deserve ANY service charge for our time in the bar but it was all added together with the restaurant bill and to be honest I did not want an argument on my birthday. Why should I? You were meant to be making this a special evening for me. I told you it was my birthday. We did not get a window seat as requested. I appreciate that there were no guarantees there BUT you did not make me feel special in any way and we spent a lot of money.
Overall I was disappointed about how myself and my daughters were treated which is sad particularly as you knew it was my birthday. At a place like City Social the standard of service should never be this poor.
Great food, amazing views! We were lucky to get a great table with fantastic view.
Amazing service, amazing food and drinks were out of this world. Highly recommended
The dinner was excellent however we were sat near the kitchen and it was very warm. We couldn't enjoy the full experience because of the heat. We had also requested a window table and watched as window tables sat empty the entire time we were there.
Had a very good service & lovely food. The whole experience was great 👍
Although the food was very good i found the front of house service poor .
Also took a very long time to be served at the bar and when I asked if I could order a drink was met with a very frosty reaction from the bar tender who told me she was in the middle of something and i would need to wait!!
The whole reason for booking this restaurant was for the food and the setting which were definitely good but the night was tainted by poor front of house service.
I do not expect this when I'm paying what is for me an expensive night out celebrating my partners birthday.
I would definitely think twice about booking another meal here.
This is my third visit to City Social and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff team are incredibly attentive without being intrusive. The food is always a treat - the asparagus starter with parmesan sable was on point and my duck main could not be faulted. If you like good food and an overall good experience I recommend you give it a try.
Asked for a window seat as we’re celebrating and ended up as fair away from the window as possible. We had to ask for the cocktail menu 3 times so in the end we just didn’t order one.
The steak was ordered medium to well and it came out very pink and bloody (clearly rare). Staff seemed up against it and we were served by 4 different people across the sitting.
I had been to City Social on a few occasions for drinks but never for dinner so decided to give it a try. We ended up cutting dinner short and leaving as quickly as possible after mains because it was impossible to keep up a conversation without being constantly interrupted by over attentive waiters. We must have had five or six different people asking whether we had chosen wine yet, topping up water the moment anyone had taken a sip. Don't get me wrong I think good service is important but this was so over the top that plates got cleared literally within seconds of putting down the fork. It completely ruined the atmosphere to the point it felt so intrusive we decided to leave. The food we did have was nice although somewhat overpriced for what it was. I'm not going to be back.
We arrive at 9:15 and 4 plates of the menu were already not available, this is not acceptable.
Forth time I've been here, usually the food is exceptional but this time I didn't enjoy the vegetarian option. The bread tasted stale too!
Always excellent here, great food, service and view!
Faultless. Our niece was over from Singapore. We had a table overlooking the Gherkin. Fabulous food, service and the views !
Staff were friendly, down to earth and not at all pretentious.
The HMS Belfast cocktail is served in an enamel mug, I got the idea but don't think it worked.
Cocktails a touch dull.
We arrived early for our booking to be seated in the bar area with a spectacular view of the shard and Walkie talkie building. The cocktails were amazing prior to being escorted to our window table for two with a view of the Gerkin. We were greeted by several people who did there jobs spectacularly! The food was then just amazing, each course was incredible, and I was also surprised by a desert with a candle for my birthday :) all in all a fantastic experience and lovely setting! Food prices are reasonable, only bad things I noticed were a slightly dirty table cloth, smudged window for the view (may have been due to the weather) and also the wine prices are a lot higher than expected.
