City Social - Restaurant
Great service and food! I Can definitely recommend the restaurant for a special occasion, nice location with view of the shard and more!
Wonderful views and ambience but incredibly poor value. Food is very good if not outstanding and the portion sizes incredibly small. Service attentive but inexperienced and forgetful, wine list extensive but lacks a range of prices. Go for a cocktail and the view, but if you want to eat exceptional food and not be out of pocket or still hungry then go elsewhere.
We were very disappointed with the service. Waited ages for our food, and then after ordering dessert we were told there would be a little delay; 40 minutes later we still hadn’t got them so cancelled our order. Not sure what’s going on there as we’ve been a couple of times before and had a great meal but will not be returning.
Wow! Chef informed the whole restaurant that he didn’t give a f@*k on several occasions. Threw plates, swore and food had to be sent back. Front of house staff did their best to cover but were clearly petrified. Pollen street social, the sister restaurant to this one was the best Michelin starred experience I’ve had. This, by a long way, was the worst.
Food was ropey, coffee was stone cold - by which time I couldn’t be bothered to complain because we just wanted to get out of there. Complete disgrace.
everything was good as expected
the ambiance, atmosphere the service
extraordinary restaurant - Wait staff was as good as it gets - Chef surprised us with additional courses. Couldn't have been better.
Awesome experience. Late table but great service.
Jour de l’an
Total disappointment. We had a table very close to the ladies bathroom (I was face the bathroom door !) and also face the kitchen corridor, then we spent the diner in a ceaseless ballet of waiters and ladies ... very romantic ! And, icing on the cake, my seat made me turn my back to the majestic sight (the sight was one of the reasons for choosing this restaurant) despite of a table still available face the window ! Even if food was was really good, refined, nothing so impressive that could justify such a price : 500£ ! When I confirmed the reservation by phone, they confirmed to me that it was all included but actually we discovered that only 1 glass of wine was included ! Service was the good point : waiters and waitresses were so attentive ! They disserve a big part of the price we paid !
The height of this New year's Eve at Citysocial : I realised (but too late, the day after, unfortunatly) that I was overcharged of 86£ !!
I couldn't imagine such a worst experience to finish 2018 !!!
No thanks City social. To avoid.
The New Year’s Eve menu was not clearly written and did not reflect menu prices properly.
So the place was nice, little difficult to find. Went into tower 42 and was told to exit, go left then left again and ill see a sign for it. Was greeted by a metal detector and told elevator on the right at the end. Elevator had only two buttons. One for 24th and 42nd. 24th was city social. Sat at the bar before out reservation and had a drink. The bartenders were nice had some small talk, even sampled a drink. We sat at our table and was greeted by a polite waiter and waitress. We were given bread with VERY delicious butter. We ordered a starter of scallops, £19 or like $24. It was small, very small. 3 Scallops the size of a £2 coin ($.50 piece) it was ok but not worth the price in my opinion. We order our mains. Wife had the lamb and i had the rib eye. Wife loved her lamb although it was a small portion for £37 or $50. My steak is where the stars drop. It was so thin. My iPhone in a case was as thick as the steak (not exaggerating) it was £32 or $45. Very flavorless, they brought to boats of sauce for it which were good but the ribeye seemed more like a Skirt steak than an actual ribeye (ima steak guy, had several tomahawks at restaurants) but being it had zero flavor was bad for me. The chips it came with were fried in duck fat. They were good but very small portion as well. Its a Michelin star restaurant so i see why its expensive but that steak was complete trash compared to ones I've had at mom and pop steak houses. So the bartenders i give 5 stars but over all i cant give more than four.
The service was really awful. I booked the reservation for Christmas Eve as an special occasion. I understood that people might want to go home early but that is not the reason they tried to rush us for ordering food (before they even asked if I want water or any drink), kept asking if we finished the dining and cleared our table the second we paid the bill. It’s a weird experience overall. Iv never got such a poor service before in a fair restaurant. Probably won’t go back again.
The food and drink were excellent and the views great. It is very pricey and we had to ask the staff to take our order after we had been seated almost half an hour, some staff seemed a little inexperienced which may have been the reason. Overall a lovely experience for a special occasion.
Service was very disappointing. We arrived on time only to wait an hour for our table. We were first told that some of our party was in the bar which was not the case: we all arrived at the same time. Then we were told they were just preparing our table and would be 10 minutes. No communication from the staff as we waited in the bar for an hour. When we finally had enough and asked to speak to the restaurant manager, we were finally seated! Food was good but spoiled by the welcome experience and then then subsequent slow service and failure to serve drinks that we had ordered.
Starter was sensational but unfortunately waited over an hour for 2 steaks.
I had to pay and leave before my main meal arrived as the wait was so long.
I explained the situation to the host but didn't even receive an apology - huge shame as previously have enjoyed this restaurant.
We really enjoyed the dining experience. Friendly and helpful staff. Very well and guiding sommelier - he knew his stuff and got us good wines to pair the food. Did not push for the most expensive on list.
Poor service, bland food. Good view but let down by the food which is technically sound but tasteless
I took my PA for Christmas lunch. The service was appalling. Only one vegetarian option for main course and no options for starters. The wine took 15 minutes to arrive and our starter took even longer. Our main course arrived but no sign of our sides so after 15 minutes they were cold. We were told it would be remade but they just bought the cold ones back. We complained and they took it off the bill but I would have preferred decent service. The deserts were fine. The atmosphere is good but it is dark if you have a table away from the windows. On the plus side the views are amazing. I would not go there again due to the terrible service.
Really disappointing experience at what is a Michelin star restaurant (they make you aware of this with the placard at the entrance!). The staff come across as not bothered (we had to wait 20 minutes just to be seated) and clearly had very basic training which was not to Michelin star level. The food was ok but nothing to write home about, I've had equally as decent food for a much lower price at a range of other London restaurants. We even asked for more bread at one point and were told the restaurant "had run out", something which isn't acceptable for a hotel of this nature. I'd also told the restuarant that we were coming for our one year anniversary dinner and would appreciate some seats with nice views, something which went over deaf ears as we got sat the furthest we could from the nicer seats at the front (with nice views towards the city) and were practically next to the hallway being constantly disturbed by staff walking up and down.
I've been to a number of other 1 Michelin star restuarants in London and this one has in my opinion lost this status a while ago. It's run like an inefficient factory where it's not above having a wonderful dining experience but more so over charging you for poor to mediocre food and service. If you want value for money you can find this so much more at a host of other London fine dining establishments.
Great atmosphere, tables really well spaced out, brilliant views. In the evening it feels like a special occasion destination. Worth the money.
Fantastic evening. Amazing service complimented by amazing food. Well done Jason.
The worst Michelin Star experience I ever had. The service was an absolute disaster; very cold and distant waiters, the food took over 40 minutes to arrive and cocktails, although they were the first thing we ordered, only came after 4 reminders and just before our mains. By then it was pretty pointless to have them and the taste was just average.
The size of the starters was very disappointing (especially the tataki, where the only 3 pieces could barely be found underneath a couple of tasteless pink leaves).
The mains and desserts were nice but definitely not to the standards of a Michelin Star restaurant.
Will not recommend it.
Overall, I had a good experience. However, for value for money and in consideration that the restaurant was Michelin starred, I have left feeling disappointed.
Although we were given a window seat (which we have front of house to thank), we had to wait in the bar area and felt quite forgotten.
The sommelier rudely informed us that the Cava was out of stock. It may have been the cheapest on the menu, however, there are ways to communicate this to customers who are already paying over the odds and expecting luxury.
The starters were sensational. In addition, so was the cod. However, the venison main was tough and bland.
The ambience was quiet, and we were able to have quiet conversation, which was refreshing. However, at the end of the meal (although it was late), rather than be politely dismissed from the table, we were told that the restaurant closed in 20 minutes and if we did not leave we would be "thrown out by security". There are ways of politely informing customers about leaving, rather than being treated like a rowdy person in a night club.
Sadly, I won't be back, and I would not recommend to a friend.
Food ok but came suspeciously quick and no menu. Disorganized service - unacceptable for a Michelin one-star restaurant e.g. had wine halfway through dish!
Went for a late work lunch and the ambience was great. Scenic views of the city and the food was amazing. A little disappointed with the service, it took them a while to take our orders but when the food came it was amazing!
The food was absolutely beautiful and the view is fantastic. The only thing that let the meal down was the very slow speed of service.
Excellent restaurant, que je recommande chaudement! Le service est très chaleureux, au petit soins, attentifs. La nourriture est réellement délicieuse. La vue est impressionnante.
Was very nice just few minor issues with service and trying to understand the staff our table was a bit dark too struggled to see menu but they managed to find a candle. And no cloth on table for Michelin star restaurant I would thought this was standard food excellent tho
Food is fantastic I must admit. So if this review would be only about the food I would give 5 stars and more. The reason why I only rate this experience with 4 stars is the service level. It is moaning on a high level, I am absolutely aware of that, but I have been to a few other lower rated restaurants and the service was just spot on. At City Social It was not up to the standard of the food. We first asked for a drink in the bar which was ok but we expected to be picked up for our table after a short while. That didn't happen. There were several servers for our table who were responsible for different tasks. If you wanted to order more wine for example one guy who was in charge of cleaning the table couldn't take the order and had to call someone. That happened 3-4 times. Which isn't a big issue but in a Restaurant like that you expect to have one waiter who is in charge of your table respectively an area of the dining room.
Other than that we had a great evening. It is a nice venue, great food and wine. It is expensive though. But I don't think it is overpriced.
The food was delicious and nice sized portions. The wine was pretty good too. The complementary birthday cake was a nice surprise, and a thoughtful touch. However it was a shame that we weren't given a window seat given that we booked months in advance requesting one as it was a special occasion. On the night we felt a little let down by the service staff - the front of house served customers before us who had been waiting less time, our waiter promised to move us as soon as a window seat became available and didn't, our drinks order was incorrect and we had to wait again to retrieve our coats while other customers who had been waiting less time were served in front of us. I would recommend the restaurant, but perhaps not on a Saturday night when it may have been too busy for the service staff to manage well.
We ate dinner a la carte and we thought the food was quite good. Similarly the wines. Eventually, the bill wasn't too expensive. However, the service was not at the level of a one-star Michel restaurant, quite rough and a few of them a bit slow, not even describing the food that they bought for us. Also, we reserved a seat with a scenic view, but we were placed at the furthest from the window. We asked for a change and we were given a seat by the window (we were lucky that a table was just vacated). There is quite a lot of space between the tables, which is good, but the place felt a bit empty, it was not full even if it was a Saturday evening.
Cannot fault the service and the food was sublime! The best steak I’ve ever tasted
Terrific restaurant. Don’t be deceived if you start in the very noisy bar, the restaurant is quiet. Gorgeous food (pig’s trotter as a starter and a duck trio for main were so good), loads of interested and willing staff are key ingredients. Wine list is intimidating, plenty to appeal to city traders but worth going through beforehand to trace interesting and (relatively) affordable wines.
Some of the best food i have ever eaten. I had the gnocchi as a starter portion and the rabbit saddle for main course. We then shared the raspberry souffle for dessert. I genuinely can't think of anything i would change from the menu. It was absolutely delicious. Some more affordable wine options would be appreciated. We ended up spending £125 on food and over £200 on drinks.
Maybe just a Monday lunch time, but the place was completely dead so zero atmosphere - felt a bit chilly and odd. Great views (if it were a clear day which it sadly wasn't). Otherwise seemed a nice place and food was very tasty and beautifully presented albeit correctly so at the price: £35-38 for mains / £16-18 for Starters so meal for 2 without booze was £140 inc automatic Service charge.
My wife and I went to City Social for the first time for our Wedding Anniversary. We were given a table by the window as per my request, and we were given an extra anniversary dessert without prompting which was a nice touch. The service was slightly disappointing - the starters came up almost immediately and only as the wine was just being poured; there was then a 45 minute gap until the main course arrived (and I did have to ask whether it was on its way). It was also very difficult to attract anyone's attention to ask for the bill at the end of the meal. However, the food was lovely, the ambience good, the views spectacular and overall it was still a very enjoyable evening.
My fiancé and I were celebrating our engagement and given how special the occasion is, wanted to have a nice meal and experience at city social. The staff at the door were pleasant and showed us to the bar to wait whilst our table got prepared. We had requested for a table with a view and some effort was made to give us that. But this was where things took a turn. We had to wait 20 minutes to be given a menu, following this and our order being taken, we waited an additional 40mins only to be told that our order of 2 fillet steaks could only be one as the second had been ruined. We were then given an alternative with the offer of not paying for that meal - which though not too keen on, we appreciated and accepted. It’s understandable that mistakes can be made but this is a Michelin star restaurant and service should be of the highest standard to deserve such rating. We did still have hope to not allow our engagement dinner be completely ruined. But when another 35 minutes passed with no dinner, so 11:38pm we were no longer interested in having dinner. I did let the manager know how long we’d been waiting by this point to which he responded - but u had a starter!! Which we did have, over 1,5 hours ago. They finally brought us one dish we ordered and another we didn’t. We were so disappointed at this point and tried eating but with the food being like warm and the service we’d now experienced, all we wanted to do was pay and leave. The manager took off both main dishes from the bill, which though he felt made up for the evening, we feel did nothing to elevate our disappointment. We did not need our money back. We wanted a nice engagement dinner at a supposedly top notch restaurant.
Not as good as last time I went. A few mistakes in the service and the food not quite up to the standard of prior visits. Still a lovely place for dinner though. I will go back.
First time visit. I had high expectations and they were exceeded; good food nicely presented, excellent serving staff and a really nice atmosphere. It’s definitely on the list for a return visit.
