Stylish and cosy with rustic décor and down-to-earth staff, the Coach House restaurant and bar in Brighton is a favourite with locals for everything from parties and Sunday roasts to wedding receptions and business meetings. The friendly and relaxed atmosphere here is second to none, and you will immediately feel at home here in the restaurant which is located on Middle Street. Ideal for al fresco dining, the terrace has plenty of plants and lamps, and the dining room is a wonderful escape on wintry nights. The modern Euro menu is impressive – we recommend the pigeon and lentil salad with parsnip crisps and a red wine jus; and the salmon fillet with tarragon sauce and sautéed new potaoes.

The restaurant has been closed due to bankruptcy for weeks, which your website regretted to advise me of so my business colleagues had to find somewhere else to take our clients for lunch!
Not the greatest first impression!

I came here for a lovely valentines meal. The open fire was very romantic and food was good. A shame the Food was just warm but not very hot, very delicious still. We were seated in the front room which was not next to the fire and was quite cold and then moved to a table by the fire place to finish drinks which was nice a warming. Would recommend asking for a table by the fireplace on very cold days. Overall nice experience and would come back

Nice decor and ambience but food very average. We booked for Sunday lunch and for a time were the only ones in the restaurant but our table of 6 received 5 of the meals ordered and an apology for one that had somehow been omitted from the order. The last meal a roast chicken lunch came through some 15 minutes later. Those in our party who had the roast beef thought it reasonably tasty. Two with mackerel were served two small pieces of warm not hot mackerel with a tiny portion of cubed potatoes. Dessert was delicious particularly the chocolate fondant. There was no attempt however to remove the service charge from the bill despite the omission with the roast chicken. Tip:Go for the dessert and pleasant surroundings only.

We waited almost an hour for 3 steaks and a salmon dish. When the food arrived it was cold. Compared to the steak dishes the salmon accompaniment was a tiny portion. We complained about the food, which the staff offered to heat but we were so hungry by then and did not want it microwaved so we just ate it.
The staff were nice enough but at these prices I expect a far more invested service - they didn't even offer to take our coats. I took family on a rare visit from Ireland and London. I will not use this restaurant again, a disappointing and embarrassing experience.

It's tucked away on a rather shabby street, but the restaurant itself has loads of character and a nice feature fireplace that's great for cold blooded people like me. The service was excellent while being very laid back and informal, which was ideal, and the food was delicious. Perfect for a cosy, unpretentious lunch or dinner.

We went here for a valentines meal after being impressed with the food and service a few months earlier where we booked a large table to celebrate my 30th. The food and staff were brilliant once again, full a la carte menu instead of set and the staff were great. Would not hesitate returning! Great spot!

The food was amazing. Really well-thought menu with interesting flavour combinations - although if you have any allergies I strongly recommend you let the waiting staff know.
The pork belly with apple and mustard potatoes was gorgeous, and I have only had that mix at my mum's, never in a restaurant so this is comfort food for me.
The atmosphere is very cosy with the fireplace in the center, and the staff were very attentive. It is a bit expensive but I would definitely come back to this restaurant for special occasions.

Food was very tasty and well presented. Unfortunately we had rather a long wait which was apparently due to chef training. Luckily we weren't in a hurry. Nicely decorated and lit

Our table for two was made up and took slightly longer than you would expect as it was quiet. They had run out of orange juice in the bar at 6.15pm which was strange. The food was good. The hake and sea bass were perfectly cooked and delicious.

Extremely average food within a cosy little pub/restaurant.
Service was great, came with a smile and very accommodating. The food is a huge let down, very average almost school dinner type food. Surprised how much we paid, considering this was not in a city center.

It was very pretty inside with a nice little outdoor beer garden.

My advice would be to go for drinks not for food.

We have been to the Coach House a few times and I booked a table for my partners birthday. We love the atmosphere in the restaurant, and the staff, all so lovely, in particular Kasia really made our meal so special. The food was delicious, extremely generous sized Sunday roasts, and all delivered with a smile, we were looked after brilliantly and my partner made to feel very special. Thank you!

Terrible service. They got the order totally wrong, 3 out of 4 had their steak cooked wrong and mine was forgotten by the chef altogether and arrived when everyone else had finished. Drinks order was incorrect.Blonde manager was very passive aggressive in handling complaint. Gave us one steak free but then added a 10% service charge to the bill and was quite hostile after i declined to pay it. I dont pay gratuities for appalling service.

My partner and I shared the scallops which were good. I had the duck which was tasty and I liked the contrast between the confit leg and the breast. My partner had the pork, which wasn't so good. The meat was a bit dry and the black pudding mash didn't go down well. We then shared the chocolate fondant which was very nice and the cheese plate which was ok. I think the kitchen lost our order as a number of tables that arrived after us had already finished their mains before we had received ours. The food took 2 hours to come out in total. The waiter was very apologetic and ended up giving us the entire meal free of charge.

We really enjoyed our meal at the Coach House. We booked a table at 4, and seem to have been right between the lunch and dinner service, which meant we were essentially alone in the restaurant, excluding a large party that was in another section round the corner.

That might not suit everyone, but it worked out really well for us, staff were attentive without being overbearing or annoying (given we were the only people to wait on). The food arrived very quickly, nicely presented and cooked well too.

I would happily eat there again if I were in Brighton, and recommend to friends.

Had a Sunday roast here November 2015 and is was amazing! Generous portions with a a whole load of well cooked veg. Desserts were lovely and homely too. Stick-to-your-ribs type food that's perfect for a chilly winters afternoon. Decided to go back early on this year and was so disappointed. We were told that some of the choices on the menu were unavailable and then had to wait ages (at least 45 mins) for it to arrive. The portions were tiny! There wasn't even very much veg to bulk it out a bit either. (A bit poncy to be honest).
Ordered desserts (I had a chocolate and raspberry thing) to fill us up a bit but again was very small and not even very nice. It actually tasted rather strange, like artificial chocolate and the raspberries didn't seem to go with the pudding very well.
All in all we paid well above average for a below average meal and came out feeling rather peckish.
And before anyone suggests otherwise I'm a size 10, 52year old Zumba fanatic so not a regular piggy 😂 .

Don't bother if you or anyone in your party is a vegetarian. The homemade veggie burger is a bland, bland patty of mashed potato with a small amount of cooked vegetables mixed through it, and a salad awash in vinigrette dressing. They offered to cook us a special which we ordered, this turned out to be giant couscous with some vegetables stirred through it served on the bland veggie burger.

Made a booking on the day and when we arrived were told that they didn't take online bookings made on the same day. The staff were quite rude about it, and despite it being near 8pm and most tables being visibly empty, we were told they couldn't seat us. If you can't take online bookings, you shouldn't be using the system.
