Cashew Encrusted Grouper
Roasted fingerling potatoes & green beans, cilantro pesto cream sauce, dusted with cashews & peanuts
Blame it on COVID! We drove from the Charlotte area and were very disappointed in the pared-down menu, as neither of our favorites were on the menu. The bread had great chew, but was not warmed. The salad was excellent. Our main dishes were average, but that could've been bolstered by the fact that they weren't what we wanted. The server was nice and attentive, and the atmosphere was great. Damn coronavirus!
Everything was delicious except for the Brussels sprouts that came with the Cashew grouper. They had a good flavor but under done and difficult to eat. The hush puppies are a must.
Birthday dinner for my wife. Everything was outstanding especially given the COVID stuff. We will be back this week.
Service was great!! Food selection was good and we were all happy with our meals!!
Best friend and I were looking for a good place to eat during our Covid reopening vacation. Decided to try this place and was excited because of the reviews and the fact that they had seafood after looking at multiple spots. The place has a damp and moist feel...not super good but as soon as we walked in the patio area was riddled with flies...they were EVERYWHERE. That should have been a red flag. Nonetheless, we go in and are seated and order the crab soup, calamari, 2 drinks and the crab dip. The soup was delicious as just as I was getting to the bottom...I felt something weird in my mouth...it was a piece of plastic from like a ziploc bag or something. I was disgusted! We let the waitress know and all she did was apologize and take it off the bill. Not a manager came over or anything! It’s not ok! I couldn’t even enjoy the rest of the meal cause YUCK! My issue is the casualness of notifying them...like they knew. Also the waitress said “it’s probably from the crab”...no plastic is plastic! Never again!
You cant go wrong with fish dishes, the grilled swordfish was amazing. The Grouper was just as good. Get your sauces on the side unless you're sure.
Went to celebrate our 25th anniversary and Coast did not disappoint. Despite the limited menu, the drinks were great (I recommend the Seersucker!) and the food was quick, flavorful and amazing! I am not a seafood person, but I had the salmon special and I loved it, along with the potatoes and seasonal veggies. My husband said the shrimp was the best he ever had, flavorful as well. Our only disappointment was it was pouring as we left so we could not walk around downtown. Coast is one of my go-to restaurants when downtown!
Great ... fish was a little fishy tasting
The food was very fresh and cooked perfectly. I got the Adobo shrimp with the bacon grits. It was the best food in Charleston for those few days.
Very overpriced for the whole experience!
Go over to east bay to get good value
I highly recommend Coast. Every time we go to Charleston it is always one of our dinner places.
The grouper was delicious and our server was very attentive. We will definitely go back!
Wedge salad is a must!!
Although it was a bit too salty the shrimp and grits was the best I've had in Charleston!
We had the crab dip appetizers and the jumbo scallops entree. The crab dip was decent but nothing special. The scallops were good, but they weren’t “jumbo” as described on the menu, and for $30 we should have gotten more than four each. Serving mashed potatoes as a side was plain boring, and the burre blanc for the scallops just tasted like butter.
The atmosphere was coastal kitsch (like what you’d expect if Applebee’s was a seafood restaurant).
The worst part was our server. We went on Sunday night when there was hardly any crowd. Our waitress was inattentive, unenthusiastic, and so cold and aloof that my husband actually asked her if everything was OK. I asked the waitress what kind of desserts they had. When she responded that they had chocolate cake, I asked what kind, because many restaurants offer their own version of chocolate cake that makes it unique to the restaurant. Our waitress looked at me like I was stupid and said “it’s chocolate...with chocolate icing...” I could see the mental eye roll she was sending my way. Considering no effort was given to offer meaningful details, an opinion, or “sell” me on their cake, I passed on it. We paid $122 for our meal and in my opinion it was a waste.
This was our second visit to Coast. Our first experience was great all the way around, but on this visit our server gave the impression that she would rather be anywhere else but at work. She was not friendly at all and checked on us once during the meal and we finished our meal with empty drinking glasses.
Not a good thing!
I would still go again based on the quality of the food, however I would ask for a different server if we would have the same person again
Our experience at Coast was great! Great food and cool atmosphere.
If you like a TON of butter and salt, get the mussels. While the mussels themselves were good, we have never had any swimming in so much butter.
The rest of the meal was fine: grilled chicken over a salad and swordfish/mashes pots/julienned veg.
Service- meh- no one checked on us and all of the dirty dishes were left as each course came out even up until the check.
The service was excellent. They took appropriate safety measures to keep customers safe during Covid.
These guys really know how to cook fish- excellent flavor and quality too!!
Maybe it was just because of the COVId situation but it was rather dirty. There were a number of flies inside. I’m sure due to the garage style doors being open as well as it being summer in the low county. Food was alright. Oysters are good. I had the fish of the day which they advertised as Halibut but was more along the lines of tilapia.
The staff was very accommodating with our request to dine outside and add more people to our original reservation. The food was wonderful, especially the Shrimp & Stoneground Grits, and the Cashew Encrusted Grouper.
Great food and service. Noted on reservation that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary but no one mentioned it from check in to paying the bill. Oh well!!
This place was spectacular. The food was delicious. It will become a must-stop on every Charleston trip we take in the future.
Delicious fresh seafood, exceptional service and great drinks!
Very good food - best grilled scallops and salmon I've had in Charleston. Mashed potatoes were pretty good too.
Service was great. Food was great. Will definitely be back next time we are in Charleston.
Service was quick and friendly, but food was subpar. The fish tacos were SO strong fishy tasting..... I generally love fish tacos, but these were really awful. I ate one half of one of the two served
Went during covid so it was really quiet and I assume a limited menu. If u want fine dining and appreciate the social distancing, this restaurant has great policies in place. All staff wearing masks and very safe environment I felt. That was not an overall priority for me so I was a little disappointed at the limitations BUT to their credit, the food and service was stellar. We did find the calamari to be a bit generic- a little greasy and served w only your typical marinade. It was reasonably priced however. I had the cashew encrusted grouper w roasted red potatoes and brussel sprouts. I did not think roasted potatoes could be made that deliciously! They were phenomenal- the grouper was fabulous. Hubby had grouper w veggies and potatoes as well. He was very pleased as well. The mixologist at the bar does a stellar job as well. Mojitos are world class! Highly recommend if you are looking for downtown eats!
Thought it be a bit bitter then it was. Always heard great reviews. Service was great food was good. I always heard about bloody marys were but was nothing more then ok. Bottle mix and not even celery stalk. Due to rain and seating limit it was very quiet.
A casual place with lots of personality and great food!
We were seated right away and our waiter took care of our drink orders. I ordered a steak medium well and it came out rare so I sent it back to cooked more thoroughly. When it came back out, the same steak I might add, (questioning why they put my steak back on the grill with all the concern over COVID-19) was just slightly more cooked, barely medium. The steak was very tough and chewy. I was really looking forward to a good steak and was severely disappointed. The only thing that was any good were the mashed potatoes. The Brussels sprout were not very cooked and didn’t have good flavor. I would never recommend this restaurant.
