Colbert is the quintessential French Bistro in London. The menu is simple yet comprehensive with tradition French Brasseries dishes that are well prepared and excellently presented. The buzz is vibrant and the restaurant was always full on the several occasions when we visited. This, together with its long standing history in its current location is testimony to its success.
If you are looking for traditional delicious french fare this should be high on your list of choices.
Definitely a keeper.

This is a very nice local restaurant. However, please be aware that it can be quite noisy. The last time we went there late at 10pm and it was still noisy when we left near midnight.

The restaurant has a nice ambiance. The front of the house was quite unprofessional rushing people around as if they were in a fast food joint. The food was average, nothing wrong with it but nothing to write home about either. Prices reflect the location and not the food or service.

Food and wine were both excellent, as was the service. We all ate a fish course with oysters and the recommended wine was delicious. We eat out every week and this will become a regular venue for us now.
Also, I have a physical disability which was taken into account by request. This was very much appreciated.

The place is cool, it's a typical French Bistrot with good food and a good service. We had very good fish plates , especially schrimps (crevettes) but meet too.

Not a big menu by any means and yet they had completely run out of several items. No croque monsieur! How could that even happen? The miserably small piece of hamburger steak that came instead, served on its own with no vegetables or ganish, was almost inedible, and terrible value for money at over £12 ($15!)
Later, the waiters outside whisked away chairs and tables while we were sitting at them. Some kind of curfew. But why did they have to be so rude?
We were told this was typical of wait-staff in Britain. A very bad impression all round.

WE were 20 minutes late leaving Cadogan Hall and reached Colbert at 5 past 10. Reception couldn't have been kinder, and although they had given away our table, they almost immediately found us another, in a very good part of the room. Waiting staff were just as attentive. Steak was a little overdone. Puddings great. Wine list a bit expensive

I love this place! It's so buzzy and fun. Quite expensive but cheaper than Gare du Nord!
Noise levels pretty high though and we seldom get a seat whilst waiting in the bar. Table took a while even though we'd booked!

I hosted three girlfriends to lunch at Colbert on Saturday and it was the perfect place. We were given a great table at the back and could view the "famous" diners and also hear our own conversation! We all chose the chopped chicken salad which is the best and goes so well with champagne! Can't wait to go back

Loved the atmosphere, and very attentive service. Mains were 'ok' … slightly soggy rather than crisp minute steak and chips. Great puds - white and dark choc mousse was outstanding. Great people watching too!

Lis and I had an enjoyable time at Colbert on Thursday evening. We were greeted warmly and efficiently and given a nice table in the window. Our minute steak, fries and salad was excellent. It is all a tad expensive, including the wines. But you are no doubt paying for the location. I also thought there was not a huge amount of choice. Service was very good. This was my first visit and I will go again, but not frequently!

A somewhat disappointing dining exeprience. The prices are very high indeed for the quality and portions served. My companion and I both ordered bouillabaisse which was on the specials board. The portion was relatively small and one portion was served up luke-warm. This was replaced without any argument. The service was somewhat over-solicitious and as soon as we sipped a glass of wine one of the many waiters attempted to refill the glass. The ambience is goof

I had a very late lunch at Colbert the other day with a friend and it was just perfect. You are met by very friendly and professional staff upon arrival and we were seated immediately. The menu is just perfect. If you want to eat light and less costly, there are many items but if you feel like splurging a bit, you won't be disapponted. I can't wait to go back!

I really like the idea of Colbert, the location is great; I like the interior and I adore the table cloths. They have decent choice of wine, and the types of food they serve (oysters, escargots, salads) make it hard to choose for me. However, the acoustics suck, the tables are incredibly close together and the noise is overbearing. I was there with a girl friend on a Monday night and the place was heaving, meaning the staff had to insist on the two hour turnaround times for tables which was really annoying. We moved to the bar where the service was sketchy despite 4 bar staff in evidence, and the noise levels were even higher. The bill was extortionate. In conclusion: perhaps best to go in between meal times, and don’t order wine.

Food was delicious, service excellent, atmosphere buzzy, tables a bit close together but enough background noise to avoid hearing neighbouring conversations.
Try the Baba au rhum dessert - absolutely amazing, nothing like my recollections from many years ago.

we were going to the Royal Court Theatre next door so this was an obvious choice for a light pre- theatre meal. the hostess was polite if not friendly and the wait staff was efficient . However, when it came to ordering a wine by the glass - I asked for a Merlot or a Malbec I was told rather snobbishly : "we don't carry either of those , we have fine wines. ". I'm sure there was a nicer way to say that rather than making me feel low brow . other than the food was fine and everything else was smooth.

When booking, I casually wrote that it was my friend's birthday on the evening we were getting together. This was taken to heart and lo and behold, a lovely plate of truffles arrived on a plate with our deserts, which had 'Happy Birthday' piped onto it in chocolate. Lovely touch and shows they care about their clientele. We were asked if we had been to Colbert before, we were shown to our tables politely and we ate well. I had the Lobster Thermidore and my friend had the Steak Frites. The Praline Religiouse was exquisite! The tables were placed quite close together but despite this, we never felt 'on top' of fellow diners. The intimacy and ambience (dim lighting) was perfect. Would go again.

Went for breakfast/brunch. Our food took too long to come (but to be fair they apologised about it). When it finally arrived my eggs Benedict were cold, the sauce hollandaise portion was small and was not lemony enough for my tasting. The eggs were a bit overcooked and I didn't care for the bun either. All in all don't go for eggs Benedict! Didn't like the jasmine green tea either, no flavour at all!

I went here recently with my partner as the Wolseley is closed for refurbishment. Perfect. A lot of fish on the menu which is fine by me as I am a big fan of fish.
The portions are perfect sizes. You will leave satisfied but not hungry or overly full.
I recommend the crab tien as a starter and the double chocolate mousse. The chocolate mousse is a large portion and perfect for sharing with a coffee or a course.
Very good, fast and efficient service. Our waiter was very helpful in recommending dishes and wines. Very relaxed atmosphere.

Colbert is a lovely place to grab a bite if you're in the Sloane Square area. Overall, the restaurant delivers both on food and ambiance (and on people-watching). Piping hot bread sticks arrive as soon as we are seated, which I could eat about 20 of (sadly we get two. Um, three times.). My starter is fish soup, which is nice but markedly under-seasoned and overpowered by a tuna-like, flaky texture. Things look up with the main, a delicious roast pork loin on meat-infused greens, with crispy, light parcels of duchess potatoes. Dessert could be perfect (pear millefeuile), but the delicate aroma of the pear is punched out by a red glaze that tastes strongly of berries. Little things to reconsider, but overall a tasty choice (at SW1 prices).
