Comedor Grill and Bar
Come and enjoy the exciting mix of tastes and flavours in our friendly, independent, local restaurant.
At the weekend we serve our popular ‘bottomless brunch’ as well as lunch or alternatively you could book in for our ‘Monday Madness’ night when we offer 50% off all of our delicious steaks.
Soak up the inclusive Latin atmosphere at this comfortable Islington eatery. Our restaurant is on the busy Upper Street, a stone’s throw away from Arsenal stadium – look out for our amazing pre and post-match deals. We are opposite the town hall for weddings and walking distance to Union Chapel, Almeida, Assembly halls and Sadlers Wells for music, gigs and theatrical events. Keep an eye on our pre-theatre deals.
Food was amazing, we had the chateaubriand! Service was quality, they answered all our questions and were very attentive when needed.
Quite expensive for what it is. Had a starter of prawns and asparagus. You didn’t get many of either for £9.95. Burger was decent. Iberico pork was overdone to the extent it could have come from a pig raised anyhow. When they came to ask me how are meal was I told them about the pork and they had no idea how to react. After that the service was frosty.
Good food but pricey and basic ambience - handy location
Always good food and a friendly attentive service.
I’d recommend this restaurant looking for good quality steaks, a quick service and reasonable prices.
It’s becoming my regular pre-match venue.
Great, we’re regulars
Lovely restaurant friendly staff and wonderful food
Really good food. Will definitely come again!
Ate here before going to a concert at the Garage. Lovely warm welcome, great atmosphere and excellent food. Steaks are half price on a Monday which was lucky - it's a bit pricey because the prices are just for the steak - you have to pay extra for all the sides but it was worth it. Looking forward to going back.
The place is very nice very good atmosphere, Monday they have 50% discount on meat that was perfect for new years eve... the only thing bad was the meat was served in a chopping board making the meat go cold very quick, we had a platter which had 4 different type of meat and it was too raw hardly cooked I say, we asked for medium-rare.
Yet again another super night at the comedor ! Delicious food, people who understand and deliver excellent customer service, and the cocktails are divine.. best espresso martini I’ve had in a while! Thanks Brett .. well run ship indeed. For anyone thinking of going here do it, you won’t be disappointed.
Amazing food! Great service! Highly recommended.
The staff was super kind, specially Davide. The food came fast and it’s always a very good dining experience, that’s why I always come back!
Another excellent experience at this venue.
Service was very good and the steaks were exceptional.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant to anyone.
Excellent steak, really good value on a Monday night when it is 50% off. I’d highly recommend the sweet potatoes with chorizo as well.
Outstanding steak beautifully cooked! Good value on Monday’s.
Love this place. Great staff , excellent service and the food is fabulous!
We waited 25 minutes before the orders were taken then we had a fairly average starter (my crab had some inedible bits of shell) and steak (really fatty) with a bottle of basic Chardonnay and two glasses of Malbec for £55 each. Dreadful service and a less than average meal. Don’t believe the hype.
One of our favourite restaurants in the area. Great quality steak every time. Expensive but worth it.
Went for the Sunday brunch special with bottomless drinks option. Excellent food - my steak was particularly good - the concept of 3 small plates works well but the waiting staff could make more effort to ask in which order they are required. The ability to mix between bottomless drinks - bloody Marys, Prosecco, mimosas, sangria - was also a useful feature. Service could have been a bit quicker but we had plenty of time so it wasn't really an issue. Would thoroughly recommend for a leisurely weekend lunch.
Decided to go here as their promotion of £10 steak seemed too good to be true! We were under the illusion that it included the steak on their menu- fillet, sirloin etc but when we sat down and ordered, the waiter informed us it was just for a flat iron steak (not even on the menu). This was rather disappointing as all day we had been looking forward to something else.
When the food came out, it was delicious - flat iron tasted fantastic so not faults there! The sides and sauce is a bit pricey (£1.95 for a small peppercorn sauce) but did taste good.
In total, the meal (including wine) came to £140 for 4 people. We were expecting a cheaper evening considering the steak was £10 so watch out for those additional extras.
I would come back, but am more cautious that if it seems too good to be true price wise, it probably is! We all really enjoyed the food though!
Celebrating our wedding anniversary, its been a few years since we last went and we are glad we came back! Service was excellent!
Asado starter was melt in the mouth tasty and we shared a Porterhouse which was cooked perfectly. Sides and drink was very good quality. I will deffo not wait years to come back again.
Thanks to the management for making this a memorable evening.
The food was excellent, the service was excellent. The waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable without being over bearing. Could not fault a thing. Cannot wait to go back.
Went here to celebrate a birthday. Friendly service and great meat options! Starters were tiny however, and wine was not great (although that was probably just our poor choice). The restaurant was almost empty despite a Friday night, which did actually suit us quite well. I would go back, definitely, but not for a special occasion but more for a casual meal.
I will try to be concise
- Food was really tasty as well as the drinks, but they did advertise pisco sour on opentable and on the billboards outside the restaurant. when i asked for the pisco sour they said the menu had changed and was not on the bottomless menu anymore. I pointed to the sign outside that was advertising this. The guy there (I assume was the manager/waiter) added that if i wanted the pisco sour would be a la carte.
- After an hour an a half the same guy mentioned above came over to say that our time for bottomless brunch was over, but other tables were offered a last round before they left. We didn't.
-When we were still in the middle of our last drink...the bill arrived. We had not asked for it at any point.
-We also overheard the manager asking the table behind us if they were sure about what they order because the dishes that were brought out were incorrect.
- food and drinks were good but after paying almost £40 per person I would NOT recommend this place to anyone or come back.
Excellent food with very friendly service. Our steaks were delicious! Will definitely be returning soon and highly recommend Comedor Grill and Bar.
We went for the 50% off Steak on a Monday. Steak was delicious! Restaurant very busy, so definitely recommend booking. I’ll be back to enjoy more steak soon!
Always love dining here and the manager was absolutely wonderful
Best steak (and chips!) I have had in ages. Superb.
Great food my steak was delicious. friendly service. Highly recommend anytime of the day
Was amazing, had a lovely brunch with my friend that came from outside of London.
I will most defiantly be coming again! Great bottomless prosecco deal with three small dishes quite filling, great food and lovely staff. Can not complain!
It´s the best steak restaurant in London! The quality is amazing, everything is so tasty, and they have an excellent value for money. I highly recommend it and it´s definitely one of my favourites restaurants in London!
We went for the offer of a £10 steak monday to Friday. To my suprise when we got there it was only 1 steak on offer and this was a steak thats not even on their menu and 1 iv never heard of.. Be careful of hidden extras i.e the tiny pot of sauce is £2 and sides are small. I dont think i would go again to be honest.
The food was delicious! Will definitely be returning.
Also nice after dinner cocktails x
Super-fantastic steaks and much better than some of the large steak restaurant chains. The ribeye was cooked to perfection and the porterhouse was amazing. A little on the quiet side when we visited but the service is great. Would definitely recommend if you are in Islington. 10/10
I love this restaurant for dinner and their brunch did not disappoint! Tapas style brunch dishes, you select three for around £15, which include your usual brunch favourites, steak and eggs and caramelised banana pancakes (incredible!) Food is delicious and service wonderful. Highly recommend!
We shared the RibEye on the bone for 2 and it was superb.
Empinada's to start were also great.
The service was excellent and the steak was beautiful and cooked to perfection. Great value and friendly staff.
Great steak and great place. Loved everything about the place and will return to try out the rest of the menu
The food was excellent and could not be faulted. The steaks were exceptional, and we thoroughly enjoyed ours. After an initial wait for drinks that was too long (and resulted in a complimentary glass of fizz from the restaurant to apologise), the service thereafter was attentive, but not intrusive.
On the other hand, there were several factors that marred the evening.
We booked through Opentable, and asked in the booking for a quiet table in the corner. On arrival we were given a table in the corridor between the front and back halves of the restaurant - the busiest possible place. We later learned that there had been a free corner in the front (quiet) section of the restaurant, but that a walk-in couple had claimed it before we arrived. It seems the restaurant did not notice our booking request.
The restaurant feels tired and dated. The tables are well used, and show it. Lighting is a bit harsh, although not unpleasant. The toilets downstairs are clean, but show their age. This is not a place for a cosy romantic dinner for two - it is more a restaurant that caters well for large parties (there were two or three groups enjoying themselves while we were there).
The wine list is expensive for what is on offer. We selected a bottle which we later discovered retails for about £9. We were charged almost £40. Unfortunately it tasted like a £9 bottle, which is not bad, but we felt it should have been better for the price we paid.
Overall the bill came to about £150 for two, which we felt was too much, even if the food (especially the steak) was excellent.
