Nice place, good service and food was delicious especially the guacamole!
Well I have to be honest and say the food was disappointing. Taste was below average (score it 5 out of 10). Portion sizes were very small and generally overpriced. Service was very good.
•Margaritas were good but slightly overpriced £9
•Asked for tortilla chips & salsa but got runny picante sauce with tortilla chips that were cheap tasting.
•Chicken quesadillas: shredded tasteless chicken
•Tequila Camarones main: 4 prawns on shredded lettuce. That's it. Awful.
Sorry for the bad review but this was our experience after leaving still hungry.
My wife and I had a enjoyable time. Service was excellent. Food arrived quickly. We would recommend this place.
We enjoyed our visit to Comensal. It was a nice warm evening and we were sat outside. The service was warm and friendly, and we were able to get a waiters attention when required. The food was good, but not outstanding on this occasion. Good for casual eats with friends.
Nice atmosphere and the food was delicious.
Only criticism the tables in the front section are a little too small. Recommended.
Sorry to say we didn't enjoy the food here. Everything was simply too spicy (even the Guacamole, which was also super cold), Mexican doesn't necessarily mean all food needs too be hot :-(
The enchiladas suizas' mass was very weird, it wasn't a tortilla and would break / dissolve..
We liked the cochinita pibil but that's pretty much it. We will not repeat I am afraid
This restaurant was recommended to us by someone brought in Mexican culture. I don't yet know what she selected from the menu but we cannot have selected the same thing. We are sure there are some good things there but we did not get to them.
I went to Comensal with 5 friends to celebrate my birthday. It was ok, but I won't be going back. The service was ok but I had to ask for a drink three times (and only received it after I'd finished eating). The green sauce that drowned my enchiladas was horrible. My boyfriend's food was also average, and he said some of it tasted like a microwave meal (particularly the beef).
Mexican restaurant options in London are limited, so this one was good. I would go back. The sampler dips appetizer was ok - it says it has 5 or 6 dips, but to me it was just 3. No one in our party ate more than a few of the picked jalapeños or the runny salsa (wasn't the best). The guacamole, refried beans, and pico de Gallo were very nice though and I would have preferred larger portions of them vs the other fillers. I also enjoyed our enchiladas.
Good food. Verrrrry slow drink service. Quite expensive for what you get. Also got seated right at the back whilst half the place was empty, was like being on the naughty step!
Overall a good experience, food was alright but nothing special, they were out of stock of a lot of beers and food we wanted, but OK overall
Booked a table for dinner here after having eaten here before a few months prior and really enjoyed it. However this time couldn't be more opposite, we ordered three different dishes and all were pretty disappointing. One beef brisket taco dish in particular was really dry, consisting of just a few chunks of beef with no other accompaniments or sauce. Unfortunately we won't be returning based on our last dining experience.
I've been to this restaurant before and it has been fantastic, however on Friday evening they seemed to be short staffed, with one waitress taking orders for the whole restaurant. In an hour and a half we had received no food and only one drink order. Slightly disappointing on this occasion.
We have been before but our most recent visit reminded us why we don't come more frequently - i.e. the price. It's not great value for money e.g. a diet coke at £3.40 is way too steep for casual dining near the house. The menu is decent but not overly inspiring and needs a refresh. For £50 for two people (without wine or dessert), you can definitely do better in the locale. Service was generally attentive and the vibe was nice. Sadly, won't be rushing back...
I wanted to like this place but the service was just awful. Food was good. I will probably give it another go at some point and hope the service/ambience matches the food.
Microwave awful food, no ambience and staff that ignored and chatted to each other by the till
Amazing Food!! and great ambiance. Would definitely recommend to all locals
Not bad. Cocktails too expensive for a regular cafe though.
All round pretty good but caught them on an under staffed day. Great Mexican food, slow service didn't bother us.
Great food, fun vibe, really shaky service. If you're in a hurry go somewhere else.
Not worth the price tag at all. Good service but doesn't compensate for food. My mains was dish of prawns on a bed of cabbage and small side of rice for 13 pounds and no taste and a bit stale. Disappointed. Only food worth having may be is from child menu
A fabulous local Mexican restaurant, with bags of flavour. Food was delicious and light, it all came to the table quickly and the staff were cheerful and inviting. Would go back in a heartbeat
We have been to this restaurant before and always enjoyed it. This time we arrived at 8 on a Thursday evening to find it was almost empty. We were the only diners left at 9 which was uncomfortable and made us feel we ought to hurry up. The food was OK, though not as tasty as I remembered, apart from a 'special' of skewered king prawns which had four old prawns on a huge bed of cabbage.
The bill came to £80 before tips between two for a few plates of lack-lustre food, a couple of cocktails and a bottle of the house red.
I won't be coming here again.
Very good place to dine
Great authentic Mexican food
No service no food no drinks.
Slow service and quite bland food. We had to ask for our drinks 3 times even though the restaurant wasn't that busy.
We were very excited to have a Mexican restaurant open near us and have now been a few times over the last year. Our initial visits were very good - great food, lovely cocktails, acceptable service - over all a nice casual experience and we have recommended the restaurant to friends.
However our last visit was substandard. Most of the dishes were great, as usual, but one really wasn't. Service was, unfortunately, very bad. We would have stayed for coffee and dessert as I love a good churro, but by the time we managed to get our bill it was an impossibility. The people at the next table were having an even worse experience, struggling to get their starter and drinks orders done, and their justifiable annoyance did impact negatively on us.
I'm assuming it was a bad day but it really made it impossible for an enjoyable midweek experience and I'd be reluctant to risk it again.
Cosy and intimate dining space, fantastic food, great service and top-notch cocktails. Will definitely be coming back to the gem!
Normally a very good local, with lovely people and good food
Our experience on this occasion was very poor, hopefully a blip as they seemed to be putting deliveryroo in front of seated customers
The food here was excellent and really authentic Mexican which I loved, having spent a lot of time in Mexico and fallen in love with the food. Would highly recommend a visit, was perfect for a relaxed catch up dinner with friends.
Great food but very poor customer service. Orders tend to get forgotten and the staff are rather rude when you chase the food 30minutes after you ordered!
Another great meal at Comensal. Been here over 10 times, and keep coming back for more. The food is reliably comforting and tasty. The atmosphere cosy and chilled. Lovely place.
Went to comensal on a Saturday night with some friends who were visiting from out of town. We were given a great table and the ambiance was pretty good but aside from that the restaurant can make some improvements. One of their signature dishes was not available and we were not made aware of this until we ordered and then were let down. The other food was fine but lacked a bit of flavor. If you do ever end up eating here the chicken quesadilla is the winner. It was delicious. The service needed improvement. Our waitress was very friendly, but service was slow. We received our appetizers before our drinks (about 20mins after ordering, and it was just beers) and our mains came out almost 45mins after our starters. It's the kind of place that could be excellent if they just tweak these details.
Great food and restaurant was full which shows how popular it is!
Was recommended to us, and went for a get-together and enjoyed the good food and the happy hour which was 2 for 1 cocktails. Lovely friendly staff and yum food. Not very busy as it was a Tuesday but have seen the place totally packed previously so must have just been a slow week! But meant there was space for us so all worked out well.
Small plates of Street food style. 2 of 5 plates excellent (Chicken Quesadilla, guacamole and beef tostada) but pork and Tuba dishes over cooked and dry. Negra modela beer was not cold enough. Buzzy but a little dark atmosphere. Service friendly.
This restaurant is colourful and has a great happy hour, but we Had to wait for water to be served - and had to remind staff to bring it. Good was tasty, but nothing special. They were accommodating to our group when we wished to have a different table. A nice neighbourhood eatery.
Brunch menu only till 2pm which we didn't realise - brunch was pretty good thou! Good list of cocktails
Amazing food, authentic Mexican street food for Londoners.
