Not as good as first visit. Food minimalistic and chips not hot or crispy. Was a meal deal on a voucher but quality should still have been up to standard.

The reception desk is on the ground floor was unattended so we walked up a flight to the bar where the staff seemed surprised to see customers. After we were finally seated the service was acceptable but certainly not up to the prices charged. The menu is VERY limited. Just seven mains one of which was fish and chips ... hardly our idea of fine dinning. The lobster and steak were wildly overpriced. Nothing we had was bad, but nothing was really that good, considering the prices. All in all, one the least memorable meals we had over a week in Edinburgh. Considering all the fine choices in Old Town, I would not suggest Victor & Carina Contini's Cannonball Restaurant.

First visit and most enjoyable; particularly with the unexpected 'Earth Hour' candlelit dinner! Food and wine excellent. Especially enjoyable to have pre dinner drinks in the restaurant's atmospheric bar.

Good food, small portions though. Quite dark in there, for some people definitely too dark for reading the menu, service quite slow and for the prices you pay not very well trained

Went to this restaurant whilst visiting Edinburgh for my boyfriends birthday, excellent service and even better food. Was given a table which was facing the castle and looked beautiful with the lights of Edinburgh shining. Would highly recommend 10/10

I would not recommend this restaurant at all. I have wanted to go for well over a year . It is a beautiful building but the interior is soulless and unwelcoming. Only 1 person in a party of five enjoyed their food. The gaps between courses were far too long and only 1 staff member was notable . Despite informing the restaurant there were 2 vegetarians in advance .There was only 1 choice. There ended up being three vegetarians all together and our mains tasted different. Mine was positively revolting. There was no atmosphere in the restaurant at all.
The pre dinner drinks were lovely . It was expensive which would not have been a problem if we had enjoyed it . We won't be back.

The cuisine struck me as fairly ordinary. Lobster with macaroni cheese turned out to be a small portion of lobster with a mountain of macaroni! Oysters good but overpriced. Norn is no more expensive than this and much more inventive.

Excellent venue with even better service. Unfortunately the pork belly was off the menu as that was our main reason for booking. Apart from that everything was perfect. Service was excellent, could not speak highly enough of our waitress..

Very nice restaurant and bar. Excellent service. Food good but slightly marked down through Gnocci being too rich and lobster overcooked - neither worth mentioning to staff.

Amazing setting and amazing food at a restaurant where the staff really went above and beyond to make sure the evening was perfect. Big thanks to Lydia for the cocktail bar recommendation too! Couldn't have been a more lovely start to a great trip to Edinburgh.

Nice atmosphere, setting and restaurant layout. Friendly staff and good service at the start although standard of service dropped away a bit as the evening progressed. Starter and canapes very nice and the latter a pleasant unexpected surprise. However, main courses were disappointing and over-priced for quality of food and size of portion. Half lobster very small, only a few chips and a handful of rocket. No finesse to meal and felt short-changed. Fish and chips also not worth the cost.

If standard of food improves then this will become a great place to eat out in Edinburgh.

Food was good service needed to be improved. After removing our plates for the mains we were forgotten basically, never offered dessert and there was no interest in our empty glasses which we willed ourselves so in the end we just got the bill. Good but poor services

Had a lovely meal at Cannonball. The standard of cooking is very good and Lydia, our waitress, was excellent. Very attentive and told us all about the history of the building which was great for our visiting guests. My two minor complaints are the lack of choices for vegetarians and despite there being quite a lot of comments about this in reviews, it hasn't changed. Also, it was quite deadly. Difficult in an old building but I think this needs to be looked at for the comfort of diners in the winter.

Worst Restaurant Meal I can remember. We left within a few minutes of the food arriving after suffering poor service, withheld menu information, untrained staff, poorly planned tables. I'm no chef but I'd have been embarrassed to service the grey mushy cod, puddingy duck, or greasy soggy chips that we'd ordered to anyone at all.

It was a special occasion for us so we wanted somewhere special having travelled from the East Midlands for a two-day break in Edinburgh. The experience lived up to our expectations and even exceeded them. Great service, food and stunning view of the Castle from our table. The restaurant space was also superb and the bar space below included tasteful live contemporary/classic violin music. All in all, it was a perfect evening!
