Since the Romans left, the Italians have been operating a policy of conquering the world's palate, plate by plate, and traditionally-run family restaurants like Cotto are their failsafe. The welcome is unfailingly warm here, the decor is authentic in feel, with murals on the walls, and the pleasures of the table are taken seriously indeed. Cotto is a 5-minute walk from the London Eye and the Aquarium, perfect for before or after family outings and it's also very popular with business customers during the week. There's live music on offer, too. As for the menu, try classic Tricolor salad to start, one of more than a dozen pastas, like Spaghetti carbonara, and a main course of simply and beautifully grilled Sirloin steak. Or just opt for a pizza and be happy!

Cotto Ratings and Reviews
We dined at Cotto five years ago, while visiting from the States. Our family has a number of food restrictions (celiac, nut allergies), so we were thrilled once we dined at this restaurant. Fantastic gluten-free pasta and bread. We spoke directly with the owner - he was great at steering us the right way, and was extremely friendly and helpful.
Earlier this week, my daughter and I just visited London again, and decided to go back to the restaurant. I'm pleased to say that we were just as happy with the food quality as we were on our first trip. It was great to catch up with the owner again, as well.
I would enthusiastically recommend Cotto to anybody.
Great Gluten Free Options
My daughter had a great gluten-free pizza. My son ate regular pizza which was great too! we had wonderful pasta and starters
Nice Hospitality by the Italian owner
Simple and nice Italian family atmosphere
Good value for money
I've never been high-fived for being the difficult one at the table before! I'm on a Low FODMAP diet (medical) which can make eating out really difficult and sometimes quite embarrassing. At Cotto you're made to feel special no matter what to can or can't eat! Their homemade gluten free bread was delicious, and my specially crafted main met my dietary requirements and was the loveliest gluten free pasta I've tasted. Portions are generous, especially the bresaola, and my non-fussy friend enjoyed her dinner just as much. Looking forward to going back and trying the pizza!
Booked Cotto for an after show meal for my partners birthday as I am coeliac - the owner was great - only pizzas as very late (after 22.30) but fine as he could provide me with gluten free - best gf pizza I've had in last year since diagnosed and we'll be back earlier to sample full menu as fantastic service.
Loved this place! Felt very authentic. We could have been in Italy. So cozy and the smells of garlicky dishes made the whole experience very nice. I had the gnocchi with tomato sauce and it was perfect. Too large of a portion for me, so I didn't finish it, but so glad I tried it. The marinated olives brought out first thing we're quite special --garlic and spice! Great comfort food on a chilly night.
The food is plentiful and delicious.
I needed a gluten, wheat, dairy and nut free meal and it was catered for easily.
I had been warned that the customer service wasn't very good, that was a lie, we received a friendly welcome (even though I'd phoned to say we were running 10-15 minutes late) and we were treated very well.
We will definitely be returning
Staff were extremely helpful and the GF food was exceptional. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is GF, as the menu choice was as good as the non GF menu. Home made GF bread too and lots of GF deserts. I will definitely be going back next time I am in London. I had my first GF beer too.
We had a fantastic evening at Cotto. We had a very warm welcome , the service could not have been better and the food as fantastic ! Also really great for our gluten free friend as there was so many gluten free options! We will definitely be returning and would recommend it any time!!
Dined at Cotto after reading reviews. Terrific family run restaurant. The owner Lino was very accomodating with any allergies as were the other members of staff
Very authentic Italian food - tastes amazing. Very reasonably priced.
Can't wait to go back.
Maybe on date four Lino!! Thanks for the advice
Large portions of genuine & excellent Italian cuisine. A little off the beaten path but close to Waterloo station and worth a taxi ride.
The owner is a charming gentleman from Naples who oversees the staff and ensures exceptional service. I will return on future visits to London.
This was our first family dinner during our vacation in London, and it was absolutely amazing! The pasta was made from scratch and gluten free options were available for almost every dish. The service was great and the prices were very reasonable. Highly recommend!
The owner greeted us, and let us know that he understands gluten issues, add he has celiac.
We were a large group and were given the upstairs to ourselves.
Our server was excellent. The gluten free pizza and lasagna were both good enough for the non-sensitive to enjoy.
We found this place by a search on Open Table and I'm not sure from the outside if we'd have seen it so very glad we had found it. The staff were so friendly - we straight away felt looked after; this despite the fact some of the staff seemed fairly new. The food was good, honest Italian food at a good price and they catered for the celiac and vegan diets required by 2 of our group. It was very easy to get to - right opposite Lambeth North and a short walk from Waterloo. Good venue for a get together. We would go here again definitely.
Family's first time in London, and wanted a nice dinner - but it needed to offer gluten free choices for my daughter. The staff were excellent, and the menu offered everything in a gluten free option. The pizza as an appetizer was magnificent. The pasta dish recommended by the owner was cooked perfectly. And, we got tips about how they make gluten free pasta and pizza dough. Amongst our best experiences in London - and we did everything :)
I was won over by the promise of gluten free food, but I got so much more than that. The food was INCREDIBLE, gluten free and normal. DID I MENTION THEY HAVE GLUTEN FREE TIRAMISU?? Wonderful waitstaff, including the owner who walks around chatting in Italian/English to everyone, ensuring everyone is not only well fed, but happy. Lots of people came in just for the lasagna, which is served in a personal cast iron skillet. Cannot recommend enough, this little 'hole in the wall' is a special find.
When we entered Cotto, it felt like stepping into a restaurant in Umbria. My young son led the way and was given a warm welcome, which was followed through with good service and a lovely family friendly atmosphere all the time we were there.
My son is coeliac and was delighted to find he could pick nearly anything from the menu.
We all had great food at good value and left oromising ourselves that we would treat ourselves to a visit another time!
This was our first meal at Cotto, celebrating an anniversary, and the whole experience far exceeded expectations! Upon being seated, the staff and exceptional service shone. The staff were very knowledgeable about the menu and wines, available but not hovering, trained to a very high standard, and very pleasant. The first course, however, eclipsed the impeccable service and began a truly memorable culinary treat. Every plate was carefully composed, bursting with flavor, and just delicious. We shall return often and highly recommend Cotto!
We only ate here once, as they were closed on Sunday when we first tried to go. We missed out, as they have virtually every pasta option you could hope for available as gluten free! (Helps to have the owner needing gluten free!) Wonderful food, small quiet atmosphere, great selection! Delicioso!
The options which I was given to say why I would recommend didn't include good gluten free options but Cotto does amazing gluten free options. At least 95% of the menu was available as gluten free which is the whole reason I decided to visit Cotto as I am coeliac. The owner (also a coeliac) was very welcoming and friendly, the staff were polite and friendly and service was very quick even though the restaurant was full. I chose the mixed cheese pizza and it was the best gluten free pizza I have ever had. I was very impressed with everything about the restaurant, as was my boyfriend who has no food intolerances. We've already decided to visit Cotto again on our next visit because it was such a lovely experience.
