A very nice afternoon, great food very nice place, and lovely silver service
It was lovely to have afternoon tea coupled with being able to visit the museum at the same time.
Lovely place, quiet ambience. Attentive server, tasty food and very filling!
It was a perfect afternoon tea, plenty of everything
Thoroughly enjoyable except for being pestered to give a review.
The BEST afternoon tea in York. Feels like you are in a scene of an Agatha Christie novel ... wonderful food, pleasant staff and fabulous ambiance.
A very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. The food was surprisingly filling and delicious too. This would make an ideal treat for those who like to be around trains in general and enjoy a bit of nostalgia. The service was very good and the waitress pleasant.
From the moment we arrived we felt we had come somewhere very special, the ambience was great with lovey music playing in the back ground. The young gentleman who served us added to the experience as he was very attentive but professional with it. I would definitely recommend to others.
Absolutely perfect! The waiter was attentive and very friendly. The afternoon tea was excellent quality, very delicious and filling. We were the only table occupied at 12pm slot on a Sunday, so the experience was very relaxing. Thoroughly enjoyed my baby shower celebration combined with trains and tasty afternoon tea!
Booked this for a special occasion. Several of our party have taken Afternoon Teas around the York area - the Countess topped them all. We had our own private carriage served by two superb waiting staff who could do nothing but ensure we were looked after. The menu catered for different diets and on the day, they swapped several servings to cater for vegetarian. The food was simply superb, each bite of each course brought our taste buds alive! We were then offered to take a lovely "doggy" bag home. We all shared a bottle of wonderful wine from the very good wine list.
Sending total praise to the staff and the Museum, this is a must experience!
This was my third visit to the Countess of York for afternoon tea and every visit has been an absolute pleasure. It was a very busy Saturday at the Railway Museum but the Countess of York was an oasis of calm, quiet and terrific food. The service was exceptional. I cannot wait to visit again. Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful experience.
Thank you for catering for my dietary needs so well. We had such an amazing experience
A very enjoyable afternoon tea for my wife and I that was a birthday treat for me from our two daughters.
The food and tea were great in a lovely setting though we couldn't finish it all so had to take a doggy bag! Would come again.
Lovely afternoon tea - fabulous food, accommodating staff and a unique setting - highly recommended.
This is the third afternoon tea we have had at this venue and every time it has been excellent in every respect, food, service and value for money.
Absolutely lovely. Catered for all dietary needs. The kids loved it too. Thank you
Had an absolutely fab time. The staff were helpful and friendly, the ambiance was fantastic and the food was excellent. Thank you
Lovely atmosphere and excellent food with attentive but discreet service. One not to be missed.
Excellent afternoon tea,beautifully presented.
lovely afternoon tea.
Good choice of quality leaf teas with constant refills!
Food was excellent, plentiful and of good quality. Better than you get at Bettys.
Service was impeccable by the young gentleman who was serving... although he was on his own so he had to work hard to serve every table.
Would highly recommend.
Really good food, lovely selection of drinks. Waiter did a fantastic job. Venue is superb and offers something different to the mainstream afternoon teas on offer around York. Great experience, great food
Just the most beautiful of experiences.
Once you step on board the countess.
You are transported into another world.
The service was outstanding. In terms of mannerism from the waiter. Aswell as timings of offering tea and food during service.
Tables are laid exquisitely, food delicious,
Cosy and intimate setting.
You really do feel like you've had a treat.
We had very pleasant time on Friday. The food was for most part very good although I thought Brie sandwich had been in fridge so did not have much flavour.Soup could have done with some seasoning too.Good how came and offered more sandwiches to us.Great that music not too loud and period appropriate.Cakes very good particularly the one with chocolate ganache.
Wow! Such an amazing experience. Food was amazing as was the selection of tea. If you want to treat your love one this is thIs place.
The hostess was professional and informative happy to answer any question you have (and to top up your sandwiches!)
We had tea for two and almost couldn’t finish it all! Fresh yummy and such flavours. Well recommended!
Lovely. Great service, great food and a lovely atmosphere. Lovely end to a lovely day
Flippin' awesome :) Not only a fine selection of treats, but they come back around with extra sandwiches too!
Second visit for afternoon tea and would definitely recommend a visit
Excellent afternoon tea. Great surroundings and lovely food. The gentleman waiter was excellent and attentive. Would recommend to friends
Absolutely perfect. Service and food were impeccable, one of our best afternoon teas
Absolutely gorgeous! Went for Afternoon Tea. The food was really lovely and the setting was perfect - very cosy with lovely background music. The staff really made it - they were so lovely, attentive and sweet. Can’t fault the experience!
Quiet but very good. Service was excellent. A shame that car parking is not nearer, especially when it is wet. The museum was dark and dingy - are they saving on electricity ?
We really enjoyed our Christmas Tea in the classic Pulman carriage. We booked two teams for myself and the better half and we also took our four year old grandson with us. There was no charge for him and the waiter serving us couldn't have treated him any better. One of the taster shots of soup had chilli in it so he did him a special shot without chilli. The service was five star all the way. Would highly recommend this to anyone.
Lovely treat - whole experience is special - the food, the level of service and the environment of the carriage itself is stunning and very clean :-)
I think people with kids just need to be conscious that other people may appreciate a calmer experience - know it's exciting for everyone, and a treat for all ages, but was a small group of 13 year olds when we went who were very sweet really, but can imagine it would have been annoying for a lot of people!
Celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary with Afternoon Tea at the Countess of York. The Christmas Festive Menu was on which was lovely, accompanied with mulled wine. Lots of tea selections to chose from. Lovely few hours spent with my other half attend by attentive & welcome staff. Had a wander round the railway museum afterwards.
Would definitely visit again.
Such a lovely experience, we took two friends for a birthday treat and it was great, the food was really good and the service was excellent, I would definitely recommend it.
Wonderful meal, gluten free option was as lovely as the the regular afternoon tea. Joel was friendly and attentive. Would recommend
Would highly recommend the Christmas afternoon tea. Delicious food served up in a beautifully restored railway carriage. The staff could not have done more for us. We really enjoyed the whole experience.
Booked in here as an afternoon tea treat as we were staying for a few days in York. From the moment we arrived the service was first class. The atmosphere inside the restored railway carraige couldn't be faulted. The food and service was first class. The sandwiches, soup, scone and cakes were all divine. If only I had the recipe for the eggnog creme brulee!
Hope to go back soon!
The carriage and setting was lovely however for the price we paid the afternoon tea wasn’t very good. The best thing was the scone and preserve. This meal was for a special occasion and we were disappointed
