Countess of York-National Railway Museum
We went for an afternoon tea it was lovely start to finish. Lovely sandwiches which we had extra of which doesn’t often happen for afternoon tea. Cakes where perfect all complimenting each other really well. Would recommend.
A wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion!
It was unbelievably hot inside - maybe comfy in Winter but definitely not to be recommended in summer. Unattentive service, food tasty but not outstanding. Nice Setting though.
Yes afternoon tea was nice. Only thing was getting the attention of the staff when needed. Waiter didn't seem all that with it.
Excellent food and excellent service. Just the right amount of attention. Offered extra sandwiches but they were unnecessary as already had enough.
Very obliging staff, lovely afternoon treat to finish a perfect weekend in York
Excellent food service from attentive staff, delicious food, beutiful surroundings, unfortunately their was a bit of noise from a few of the diners children running up and down outside.but appart from the distraction everything was a memorable occasion.
Went for my 50th birthday , the food was delicious esp the scones which were the best i think I've ever had , the service was good . Was a really lovely treat for my special day. My only criticism would be the price, think £47.00 for 2 people for an afternoon tea ( and that's the price without champagne !) Is a tad expensive
tbh , but apart from that everything was lovely.
An outstanding experience and best bar none that I have been to.
The customer service when we arrived was outstanding, during our afternoon tea, all the staff were exceedingly attentive without being overbearing as some places are. We will and already have recommended this venue to others... a hidden gem!
We thought it was the best afternoon tea we had ever had and the specialist vegan and vegetarian food was excellent.
Had a perfect afternoon tea celebrating our wedding anniversary, the carriage was very romantic and the atmosphere was very relaxing. The food was absolutely delicious and the Service was excellent. A fantastic afternoon. Highly recommended
Excellent experience, staff were charming and attentive.
Tea was delicious, with top ups of sandwiches
Thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon and then looked around the museum.
An excellent experience, staff very pleasant and afternoon tea very good, with very fresh sandwiches and catered well for individual tastes. Lovely to have fine bone china crockery with teapots. Rather expensive compared with others we have done - we were the only ones dining at that time.
Birthday treat for my wife, excellent afternoon tea experience sandwiches and cakes etc scrumptious, attentive and just right service. Loved it.
Only one thing really wrong. My partner does not eat meat or certain things that cause her stomach problems, such as cucumber. We booked sandwiches to suit but this information seems not to have filtered through and a rather animated conversation took place at the start of the tea with the waitress seeming to know nothing about the request and imply that my partner was making a fuss about nothing as the existing sandwiches were perfectly OK to eat. Not really sympathetic to customer needs. The overall impression was that the waitress felt she was caught out and tried to defend her position at any costs, if this makes sense.
Very accommodating of dairy intolerance, wonderful service and perfect Father’s Day treat!
We booked afternoon tea at Countess of York as a late birthday treat. The setting in an old railway carriage was lovely, the food was very good and the hosts were very attentive. Highly recommended as an alternative to the overcrowded afternoon tea venues in the city centre.
Delicious food. Lovely flavours. Portion size spot on re cakes etc. Attentive staff who contacted us a few days before re diabetic order for my Dad. Helpful with putting in some adaptions for my two sons with autism. We were put at ease and both Dad's enjoyed their early Father's Day treat.
Our booking was for my husbands 40th birthday treat and we had a great day. The food was delicious, the service was amazing, and atmosphere was incredible. My husband even received a 'happy birthday' chocolate. Fantastic!!!!
We booked this as part of our holiday in York in June. The weather was shocking but it made the afternoon tea even more special - hearing the rain hammer down on the coach as we drank tea and ate dainty sandwiches. I was concerned that as we'd booked the 4pm slot, the last slot, we would be given the left overs. But everything was fresh and the service was exceptional. Highly recommend it and I'd definitely do it again! Thank you!
Very good and staff and food. Menu limited as it is really just for afternoon tea
We had a lovely afternoon tea to celebrate my parents 80th and 84th birthdays .
It was lovely from the second we went in we were treated like royalty . My father is coeliac and had a cake stand all to himself with delicious gluten free treats .
We also had an array of delicious treats laid out beautifully. Lovely silver teapots and bone china cups and plates..
Nice surroundings and great service but the afternoon tea itself not value for money .
Lovely afternoon tea served in this attractively decorated former railway carriage. There was a nice selection of savoury and sweet options served with top ups offered on the sandwiches. if you have some cakes leftover you can them home in a box and they give you a gift box of macarons to take home.
The service was very good and the room isn't too crowded or noisy.
I would recommend this experience
Lovely experience, would recommend to others. Kids loved it
Delightful food in a wonderful setting. Relaxed but attentive staff. Really enjoyed it, will return!
Our second visit for champagne afternoon tea, it was fantastic on both occasions, excellent selection and quality of food in a very comfortable calm restored railway carriage. The young staff serving were very friendly and made our visit feel quite special.
We've had a lovely afternoon tea. We just loved it. Everything was just wonderful, from the cutlery to the service. We would recommend it to anybody.
Fabulous afternoon tea in a wonderful setting.
Food and drink were delicious and the service was second to none. I would definitely go back.
One of the best venues for a truly English afternoon tea.
Fabulous place for afternoon tea, selection of sandwiches, savoury and sweet pastries was excellent, the service and friendliness of the staff was superb. Cannot fault it.
We were very pleasantly surprised . The setting, food and service was excellent. Staff were very polite and efficient. It was good value for money, particularly when you add in the free car parking. We would certainly take friends there for an afternoon tea.
Lovely afternoon tea in beautiful surroundings. Staff were very attentive. They were able to accommodate our dietary request, the food was great and we were able to have extra sandwiches and scone.
Lovely afternoon tea in a unique setting. The service was fantastic and very accommodating to our requests.
An absolutely wonderful experience. The food, champagne and the attentive staff made my wife's special birthday even more special!!! Thank you !!!
Booked a table for my Mother's birthday, far exceeded my expectations. Table was beautifully laid up with silverware & bone china & the Waiters in their splendid uniforms. Service was excellent without being intrusive. Really relaxing enjoyable time.
It was a delightful dining experience! The staff couldn't have been more accommodating. The selection of food was delicious and generally an exceptional eating and dining experience.
First class afternoon tea. If you want style and class this is the place to visit.
Perfect afternoon tea. The sandwiches, scones (plus clotted cream), and sweets were delicious, and everything was beautifully presented. Our group included a two-year old—always a potential danger to fine china—but it all went beautifully, thanks in large part to patient and helpful servers. A special feature of a special museum.
