A beautifully presented and tasty afternoon tea. A charming carriage, lovingly decorated, with little table lamps, comfy chairs and fine table linen.

Nice setting, and a very sweet and gentle waiter. However food disappointing. Consommé and quiche very ordinary. Sandwiches very my eager and poorly filled. Cakes small and overly sweet. Scones small but at least they were fresh and tasty- the one positive thing about the food.

Would have given 5 stars overall but the lack of through ventilation on such a beautiful sunny day made the whole experience less enjoyable as it was uncomfortably hot during the event.

We have had afternoon tea here before, so knew what to expect. As on previous occasions, everything was perfect. The service was exemplary, the sandwiches, which were made with certain dietary requests, were delicious, as were the tea fancies. A lovely setting in a beautifully restored carriage. What’s not to like about this first class experience. We intend booking again for another special occasion.

It was a nice and different experience after all. The service and the setting were excellent. However, I was quite disappointed with the size of the sandwiches, scones and other snacks. I have had afternoon tea in other places for the same price and the offer from the National Railway Museum was very poor and rather tasteless.

Made to feel very welcome and special and our afternoon tea was wonderful with a selection of sandwiches and miniature cakes which were delightful.

Other visitors to the NRM kept looking into the carriage but staff were aware and kept disruption to a minimum.

A very memorable 80th Birthday for Dad, train enthusiast

Booked this for my husbands birthday had specified the vegetarian option, however when we arrived we were given a vegan afternoon tea..as this is pre made they were not able to offer us much else. They did apologise for the mix up... To be honest we did not enjoy this as we do like dairy and this was a disappointing as it was supposed to be a surprise. The service was good. However considering how much you pay, they should at least get the order request correct. Would not book again.

A very pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. The food was surprisingly filling and delicious too. This would make an ideal treat for those who like to be around trains in general and enjoy a bit of nostalgia. The service was very good and the waitress pleasant.

From the moment we arrived we felt we had come somewhere very special, the ambience was great with lovey music playing in the back ground. The young gentleman who served us added to the experience as he was very attentive but professional with it. I would definitely recommend to others.

Absolutely perfect! The waiter was attentive and very friendly. The afternoon tea was excellent quality, very delicious and filling. We were the only table occupied at 12pm slot on a Sunday, so the experience was very relaxing. Thoroughly enjoyed my baby shower celebration combined with trains and tasty afternoon tea!

Booked this for a special occasion. Several of our party have taken Afternoon Teas around the York area - the Countess topped them all. We had our own private carriage served by two superb waiting staff who could do nothing but ensure we were looked after. The menu catered for different diets and on the day, they swapped several servings to cater for vegetarian. The food was simply superb, each bite of each course brought our taste buds alive! We were then offered to take a lovely "doggy" bag home. We all shared a bottle of wonderful wine from the very good wine list.
Sending total praise to the staff and the Museum, this is a must experience!

This was my third visit to the Countess of York for afternoon tea and every visit has been an absolute pleasure. It was a very busy Saturday at the Railway Museum but the Countess of York was an oasis of calm, quiet and terrific food. The service was exceptional. I cannot wait to visit again. Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful experience.

lovely afternoon tea.
Good choice of quality leaf teas with constant refills!
Food was excellent, plentiful and of good quality. Better than you get at Bettys.
Service was impeccable by the young gentleman who was serving... although he was on his own so he had to work hard to serve every table.

Would highly recommend.

Just the most beautiful of experiences.
Once you step on board the countess.
You are transported into another world.
The service was outstanding. In terms of mannerism from the waiter. Aswell as timings of offering tea and food during service.
Tables are laid exquisitely, food delicious,
Cosy and intimate setting.
You really do feel like you've had a treat.
