Countess of York-National Railway Museum
Second visit for afternoon tea and would definitely recommend a visit
Excellent afternoon tea. Great surroundings and lovely food. The gentleman waiter was excellent and attentive. Would recommend to friends
Absolutely perfect. Service and food were impeccable, one of our best afternoon teas
Absolutely gorgeous! Went for Afternoon Tea. The food was really lovely and the setting was perfect - very cosy with lovely background music. The staff really made it - they were so lovely, attentive and sweet. Can’t fault the experience!
Quiet but very good. Service was excellent. A shame that car parking is not nearer, especially when it is wet. The museum was dark and dingy - are they saving on electricity ?
We really enjoyed our Christmas Tea in the classic Pulman carriage. We booked two teams for myself and the better half and we also took our four year old grandson with us. There was no charge for him and the waiter serving us couldn't have treated him any better. One of the taster shots of soup had chilli in it so he did him a special shot without chilli. The service was five star all the way. Would highly recommend this to anyone.
Lovely treat - whole experience is special - the food, the level of service and the environment of the carriage itself is stunning and very clean :-)
I think people with kids just need to be conscious that other people may appreciate a calmer experience - know it's exciting for everyone, and a treat for all ages, but was a small group of 13 year olds when we went who were very sweet really, but can imagine it would have been annoying for a lot of people!
Celebrated our 32nd wedding anniversary with Afternoon Tea at the Countess of York. The Christmas Festive Menu was on which was lovely, accompanied with mulled wine. Lots of tea selections to chose from. Lovely few hours spent with my other half attend by attentive & welcome staff. Had a wander round the railway museum afterwards.
Would definitely visit again.
Such a lovely experience, we took two friends for a birthday treat and it was great, the food was really good and the service was excellent, I would definitely recommend it.
Wonderful meal, gluten free option was as lovely as the the regular afternoon tea. Joel was friendly and attentive. Would recommend
Would highly recommend the Christmas afternoon tea. Delicious food served up in a beautifully restored railway carriage. The staff could not have done more for us. We really enjoyed the whole experience.
Booked in here as an afternoon tea treat as we were staying for a few days in York. From the moment we arrived the service was first class. The atmosphere inside the restored railway carraige couldn't be faulted. The food and service was first class. The sandwiches, soup, scone and cakes were all divine. If only I had the recipe for the eggnog creme brulee!
Hope to go back soon!
The carriage and setting was lovely however for the price we paid the afternoon tea wasn’t very good. The best thing was the scone and preserve. This meal was for a special occasion and we were disappointed
Excellent! Everything about it was so lovely, we were so well looked after. The food was excellent and the waitress was so attentive. I am allergic to milk and was very impressed with the dairy free menu. Would definitely go again.
Superb setting and very welcoming.
Food was excellent and a very good assortment.
Something a little different and all tasty.
Waitress was very pleasant and the overall service was superb .
All in all a very pleasurable experience and to be highly recommended.
Inclusive parking is always a bonus.
I would highly recommend to anyone looking for something high class!
This was a treat for my husband’s birthday.
It was a Christmas tea, I was a little worried as I didn’t like some of the sandwiches on offer with this, but no problem they changed them for me.
The museum was marvellous, light airy and clean. For someone who isn’t particularly a train buff I found it very interesting and spent all afternoon walking around because there is so much to see. Afternoon tea on The Countess of York was a bonus, the waiter was very attentive, the environment clean and comfortable with a good choice of teas, sandwiches and cakes. The gluten free selection was yummy and I managed to eat everything because it was so tasty and a pleasure to find a great choice for my dietary requirements. Even though I have visited I would not hesitate to go again if I should ever find myself in the York area In the future. A most enjoyable experience.
Lovely setting, excellent food, we had the Christmas Afternoon Tea. Waitress was very attentive and swapped our cheese sandwiches for ones we liked. We would definitely recommend this to friends and family.
Very enjoyable food lovely but unfortunately we were the only 2 having afternoon tea
Really enjoyed the afternoon tea as it was a bit different - started with an espresso cup of soup and blini followed by sandwiches, scone and cakes. Again sandwiches were a bit different with a pulled ham brioche included. We were offered more sandwiches, but wouldn't have got through the cakes if we'd had them, but was a nice touch. The size of the scones (served with lemon curd and blackcurrant jam which was different in a good way) and cakes was perfect - we managed to eat everything without being too full!
We'd go again if we were staying in York.
We very much enjoyed our afternoon tea. Plenty of interesting choices of teas.
The food selection was good served by a friendly young girl.
It was a very cold day & I did find the carriage a little chilly.
The afternoon tea was delicious, good selection of savoury and sweet, with additional offering of sandwiches.
However, I requested a Bombay Sapphire G&T but it was substituted with Gordon's Gin, with no price reduction, which I thought was wrong. Also the carriage was inadequately heated and we had to eat with our coats on. Not the ideal situation.
Having said that, I would recommend afternoon tea here as the food was delicious, but book in summer when it will be warmer, and busier to get some atmosphere.
A fantastic tea with tasty and unusual little things, as well as the classic scones and various teas to try. There was plenty to eat, although it looked so dainty. Beautiful setting, silver cutlery and teapots, proper napkins etc.
Lovely attentive service. The Museum is delightful too.
I was concerned that, because our reservation was one hour before the museum closed, we might be rushed. No problem, however. We took our time and were then escorted through the closed museum by the waiter.
I'd like to thank the staff for a really enjoyable and memorable afternoon.
I rang a few days in advance with some specific dietary requirements, when we arrived and were shown to our table nobody asked what name we had booked under so when they came to take our drinks order I mentioned that we had some specific requirements on our booking and gave my name. When our food arrived this had not been adhered to so we had to specifically ask for our request again. The staff were fine about it and our order was changed but it was not good that we had to ask twice and my original phone call was seemingly ignored. This caused some embarrassment for some members of our party having to ask in the open restaurant.
We were also not told about the free parking code, we forgot to ask when we left so went back to get it. Only to realise when we got home it was on the bottom of the receipt, wouldn't have taken much for the staff to mention it when giving us our bill.
Absolutely amazing the best afternoon tea experience we have ever had will be recommending and definitely returning.
Disappointing afternoon tea
Staff friendly but not attentive
Had to ask several times for extra hot water for the tea pots .
Not enough sandwiches
Wished we had gone to bettys tea room
It was a very pleasant experience in comfortable surroundings with very good service.
Excellent service and fantastic food nice ambiance attentive unobtrusive staff.
Excellent service, very well looked after. Really enjoyed the variety of food on offer. Nice to have a non"gooey" afternoon tea. The small soup and the crab blini were delicious. Good to be offered more sandwiches too. Doggy bag nicely wrapped with ribbon and good gesture giving little packet of gift wrapped macaroons when paying bill.
A delightful experience. The setting service and food were all first class. We shall return .
Excellent surroundings to enjoy a superb afternoon tea. The staff were outstanding. Highly recommend
Upgraded to have the champagne afternoon tea. Superb selection of sandwiches puddings and teas. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Will definitely come back again.
it was my partners birthday. One of the best afternoon tea we have had. Lovely food but not too much. .
We had such a lovely time. As soon as we stepped in there was a lovely gentile atmosphere - very fitting for a refined afternoon tea. The music was lovely and just at the right sound level. The service was friendly but not over. The food was lovely with the option of more sandwiches and a box to take home any leftovers.
We decided that we would introduce our girls (9 although they would have probably enjoyed some of our cakes over the cakes they did have. Having a nice plain Victoria sponge rather than a Bakewell and a plain flapjack instead of with jam for example would have been more preferable for the more fussy eater.
Overall a lovely afternoon for both adults and children alike.
Best afternoon tea I’ve ever had!! Will be making it a regular treat!
A lovely experience we both had a wonderful afternoon tea service was excellent and staff were very professional
Lovely afternoon tea on the Countess of Chester, next best thing to the British Pullman. Lovely food, great service. We were offered more sandwiches too which was appreciated. Would have been nice to be adults only experience as was marred by crying baby and whinging child.
We visited at 1pm on Weds 23rd October. They gave us a fabulous vegan afternoon tea for 2, and my daughter had a children's afternoon tea. Not only was there plenty to eat we were also offered another round of sandwiches.
The food was outstanding, the chap serving us was lovely, really attentive and the carriage is beautiful. Beat the crowds at Betty's and give this a try instead!
A LOVELY AFTERNOON TEA A BIRTHDAY TREAT FOR MY SISTER WE LOVED EVERY MINUTE SO DIFFERENT TO ANY OTHER AFTERNOON TEA WE HAVE HAD OUR WAITRESS WAS LOVELY TO
I would absolutely recommend The Countess of York to a friend. The setting was perfect, the menu was delicious and dietary preferences were accommodated with no issue, the table setting was beautiful and the people who worked there were all friendly and helpful. I will definitely be revisiting.
