Countess of York-National Railway Museum
Lovely place was very relaxing Service was first class Food was delicious
Staff very attentive and polite, very impressed by the decor.
This was a wonderful experience in an elegant and unique railway carriage. My husband is a coeliac so always an element of concern when ordering gluten free food but I needn't have been worried. Our food came on separate cake stands, beautifully presented, with a very good selection of sandwiches, cakes and scone. Would highly recommend.
Excellent food and service. We had a lovely family afternoon. We would highly recommend it to anyone. Nothing was too much. A nice touch was offering extra sandwiches to those who may have a larger appetite. Loved the valentines chocolates to take home they were delicious.
The carriage ambience was good but not too special.
The service was very good with attentive pleasant staff.
The table settings were good too with attractive silver style cutlery and teapots etc.
The food however I thought was disappointing. Bread not quite fresh - it was 4pm. The sandwich fillings were tiny and therefore not particularly tasty. The scones were tasteless. And only one of the “cakes “ was really good. And of course they were all very small!
So I think the tea content needs an overhaul. Maybe then it would feel like value for money in an unusual environment.
We enjoyed our Afternoon Tea experience as this was also our Golden Wedding Anniversary. Everything was very good but we thought that the pricing was somewhat high based upon our experiences elsewhere.
The waiting staff were rude and dismissive. Very unhappy with how we were treated. Then we were given then wrong passcode for the car park and ended up being stuck in there for 30 mins!!!!
It was our first time having afternoon tea, and we couldn’t think of a better place to have it!
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to The Countess of York, service was second to none, food was delicious.
We had a vodka fizz too, this really pushed the price up, however we went for the experience and it really was wonderful.
Lovely afternoon tea in a new place for us
Will definitely be back
I booked this for my Boyfriends 25th Birthday as a suprise extension to railway museum. From the point of entry we were waited on hand and foot and everything was Devine! I'll defo be coming again in the future!
What a fabulous place !! We had lovely stroll around the Museum first which was fascinating !! The staff were so helpful and enthusiastic spending time with visitors answering "lots" of questions. The service during our Afternoon Tea was second to none and our waiter couldn't have been more helpful. We swapped a few things on the menu with no problem at all. The food was delicious and the decor and attention to detail were exceptional. Overall a truly lovely afternoon. I would highly recommend a visit.
Excellent customer service, and the staff were brilliant. The food was delicious and of a high standard. I would thoroughly recommend this venue.
I booked this following Open Table listing the top 100 restaurants in the UK, this list was false as the 'restaurant' in question is a quaint railways carriage within the national rail museum offering afternoon tea such as scones, small sandwiches, cakes - by any definition it is not a restaurant
Offerings if one likes this type of food were good, service excellent and cute location pleasant
Going for dinner however was a huge disappointment, I will in future be cautious regarding Open Table reviews
Afternoon Tea taken with a group of ladies who are very good friends. The tea was fabulous , plenty of choice especially for me as I'm Gluten Free . I would highly recommend the experience .
Lovely setting for family afternoon tea. Beautiful coach nicely decorated and clean. Food was well presented and the staff were helpful.
Wonderful experience. Nice menu with vegetarian options.
I booked this as part of my husband’s 80th birthday trip to York. From the moment we stepped “on board” to the end of our champagne tea it was lovely. Friendly, welcoming staff. The food selection was excellent and plenty of it. Extra sandwiches if we wanted them and as much tea as we could drink. A really lovely experience in lovely surroundings. Hard to believe we were just across the yard from the bustling railway museum. Thank you
Wonderful afternoon tea, food was great, we were also offered extra sandwiches. Would definitely recommend to others.
Fantastic experience. Will remember this afternoon for a long time.
We had a delicious afternoon tea served by a very efficient, attentive and friendly young man last Wednesday in the Countess of York.
Great location for afternoon tea. Friendly, welcoming staff, delicious food and a great selection of drinks to accompany it.
Fabulous birthday trip and a wonderful way to round off a visit to the museum!
Friendly, courteous staff who work their best to meet customer needs. Elegant surroundings, beautiful silverware and China are all reminiscent of a bygone age. To top it off, food that's looks as wonderful as it tastes. A wonderful treat!
An exceptional experience as a special "one off" occasion to celebrate a friends birthday, highly recommended and enjoyed by all. Joel made sure everything was "just so" and made sure we got the best from the afternoon.
Amazing service for our 91 year old grandfather! A lovely memorable place.
Absolutely loved having Afternoon Tea here, the food & the service were amazing
Thank you for making such a lovely experience we will defiantly be back!
I've visited the Countess once before and absolutely loved it. Thought I'd take my boyfriend as a treat, and it didn't live up to my memories. Service wasn't as good and didn't seem happy to be there etc.. just a little bit let down
Went for afternoon tea really enjoyed it. The food was good and the staff were friendly. Would do it again.
Lovely venue, food very tasty, good quality, quantity and variety. Very useful that afternoon tea customers gain free museum parking. Would visit again.
Quite simply the loveliest afternoon tea we have had, scones are to die for. Service was super by two lovely young ladies. We had two children with us and were seated at the end of the carriage which made the experience a little less stressful and we booked the 12 noon sitting and we had the place to ourselves!
A nice touch was your leftover cakes beautifully boxed to take away and a little bag macaroons to take home too. Highly recommend!
Fantastic setting, friendly service. That smile on my kids faces were priceless. Guess the children's portion can be smaller - or give them some options to choose from. Not all kids like mushroom soup starter!? Apart from that it was a perfect afternoon!
Great value afternoon tea in a unique setting. Good choice of teas and food
Booked for my dad's 70th. Loved it. Not rushed as they have 2 hour slots. Gave us more food (if we required it) Staff were lovely.Enjoyable experience. Thank you
My wife and I really enjoyed our return visit. We chose this date to enjoy the Christmas decorations in the restaurant but the decorations needed lifting with some fairy lights. The food was as usual, very good. It was nice to be offered more sandwiches and tea. We shall go again during this year (2019).
Had afternoon tea. Excellent food and service. Lovely experience. Would do this again.
Waitress did not attend to us enough had to keep waiting for milk more food etc needs to come into the carriage more often.
First visit and as our ratings suggest it was a lovely treat. Food and service were excellent. Service not over attentive, but helpful and very friendly. It's the sort of offbeat treat we love and it lived up to the hopes we had for it. Like all these things, it's maintaining what it has over the long term which I hope they can do.
Christmas treat for myself and my wife. We had the Festive Champagne Afternoon Tea. Great choice of speciality teas, sandwiches, scones and cakes all delicious and beautifully presented in a wonderful setting.
