This was the one of the best afternoon tea I have had. Generous offering of sandwiches and delightful gluten free alternatives. Highly recommend.

Surprise afternoon tea for my wife’s birthday. Beautifully restored railway carriage and the interior was very nicely furnished and quite relaxing. The champagne afternoon tea was perfect and a little different as you start with a small tea cup with soup and a small tart before the lovely sandwiches, scones and cakes. The young staff who were on duty were very friendly and professional and looked after us very well.

Arranged the afternoon tea for a birthday celebration. The food was excellent as was the service and ambience. Something a little different to the usual cafés for a cream tea, especially for a celebration. Would highly recommend.

We took my mum for her 81st birthday, together with my son and his girlfriend, for afternoon tea last Sunday 27th may. Unfortunately we got stuck in traffic so were late for our 12.00 booking, but there was no problem at all, the lovely young lady seated us at our table and brought us the tea menu - what a choice! Everything was wonderful, from the beautiful China crockery, sparkling silverware to the edible delights! Sandwiches were lovely and fresh and great selection, and the cakes were delicious, the scone was the best I’ve ever tasted- as light and fluffy as air! Just beautiful with the strawberry conserve and clotted cream! My Mum had a truly wonderful time, made even more special by a chocolate topped ‘happy birthday’ cake just for her! Thank you!

LOVED it!!!! Had plenty to eat and they were very accommodating to my vegetarian diet. Also, fyi, their scones were better than Betty's!

We chose to celebrate an anniversary by enjoying a traditional silver service afternoon tea aboard the Countess of York, a restored railway carriage located near the entrance to the Great Hall at the National Railway Museum in York. The location is perfect for anyone with an interest in trains.

The restored carriage is beautifully fitted out with full waitress silver service. The atmosphere is quiet and intimate and very relaxing. The refreshments, although on the smallish side, are very tasty, as are the choice of teas/cold drinks to accompany the afternoon tea.

Perfect for celebration in a location somewhat different from the norm.

We wanted to have afternoon tea myself and my wife. We were going to the National Train Museum and when we looked at the facilities we found the Countess of York. We booked a table over the web. The whole experience was excellent from the staff to the food.
We had the best time ever there.
Thank you

The food was amazing, the service was exceptional and attentive without being imposing. The tea itself was delicious, I had the China Rose Tea. The only thing I would suggest is replace the vanilla cream with clotted cream, but I am from Devon after all. Quite seriously this was a truly impressive afternoon tea experience. Oh and did I mention this was all in a railway carriage??? Amazing.

My friend and I met for a weekend in York and having looked at various places for Afternoon Tea we decided that the Countess of York was the best value for money with a lovely unusual setting. The food was lovely and we especially liked the table settings. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

I booked an afternoon tea as a surprise for my friend and we were not disappointed. The selection of food was very good as was the service. The ambience was better than Bettys and we did not have to queue as tables are pre-booked. I would thoroughly recommend this venue for an afternoon tea. The only slight annoyance were the schoolchildren running across the terrace directly outside the carriage, whilst the teachers looked on!!

The other half likes to visit the museum so this time I decided we would do something I like - Afternoon tea!! It was served in a carriage which was warm and welcoming, the service was brilliant and the food delicious. The other half is a large eater and is normally disappointed with the size of afternoon tea portions but everything was just right -even the extra sandwiches they brought round! A little on the pricey side but the ambiance was lovely - will definitely do it again.

We booked an Afternoon Tea to celebrate our 46th Wedding Anniversary, during a short stay in York. It was a very enjoyable experience, as was the Railway museum - such an array of trains through history 🚂 🚝 . Very interesting, free entry ( donations ) and a fun road train back to the Minster - great !

It was to celebrate my husbands birthday, the weather was good and it was a lovely day.the setting is so different and quiet.I was disappointed that as we had booked for 4 pm on a Saturday that they had run out of jam for the scones and we were not the only people who asked for more ,eventually they obtained more from a different outlet to late for us and the cream looked a little that it had been defrosted.for the price we paid I thought and as bookings had been done in advance I thought they should have enough of the basic food.we did enjoy our afternoon tea in a very different setting which i would suggest others try it for a special event.I do hope they learn from this and cater for there needs.
