Nice food well served in a unique location and good value too if you factor in the £10 saved on parking for the museum.
Went for afternoon tea with parents for there golden wedding anniversary we all enjoyed it defiantly reccoammed defo be back again
It was a special family treat for 5 for mothers day , however I am dissapointed.
nice railway carriage, nice linen napkins & tablecloths, staff polite and professional appearance.
several of our silver teapots poor pouring & dripped throughout our visit, leaving large brown tea stains all over white linen tablecloths (unsightly). After serving Afternoon tea not once did any staff member come to our table to check we needed anything else & to check if we required top ups of tea etc (we had to attract their attention every time).
What a beautiful setting in an old Pullman carriage that has been renovated. We went there for a Mothers Day celebration and had Afternoon Tea it was fabulous from start to finish. The food was excellent and so was the service would highly recommend it to anyone.
Best afternoon tea I have been to. Great service and location.
We had a lovely stay. We felt welcomed in that cozy, old and well decorated wagon. The food was delecious and the waitresses were attentive and friendly. I'd go there again.
Exellent service, excellent atmosphere,we order a traditional afternoon tea , sandwiches are small , food taste ok
Another great visit for gluten free afternoon tea.
Fabulous selection and seasonal offerings so never exactly same.
Tiny tea cup of soup and small sausage roll for non coeliacs always impresses our guests.
All fresh and extra sandwiches if required.
Staff and ambience top marks.
Free car park for diners and free museum entrance you cannot beat it.
Special exhibition Tim Peakes spacecraft an added bonus.
Lovely food, venue and service. Perfect for a Special Treat. Will definitely book again.
I absolutely loved it. One of the nicest afternoon teas I've had. Lovely setting, so relaxing. I'm not a train fan but if you are I can imagine it's even better. Booked on a whim as a treat for a mini break. Well worth it. I would reccommend it to everyone
46th Wedding Anniversary
My sister and I brought my young son as a birthday treat. We were made to feel very welcome and the hostess was friendly and polite. We were able to swap sandwich fillings for our preferred choice. We were even offered extra sandwiches which we of course accepted (just being greedy, not because the portions weren't sufficient!). The food was served promptly and was delicious. It would be difficult to choose a favourite part. My son had the children's afternoon tea and he really enjoyed it. He had hot chocolate and it was served in a silver tea pot so he really felt involved in the whole experience. And of course, being able to enjoy the railway museum and see the Tum Peake astronaut exhibition was the icing on the cake. Thank you. Will definitely visit again.
We booked afternoon tea for my birthday with friends, it was absolutely 5* the staff were lovely & very accommodating. The food was delicious, offered more sandwiches & endless hot drinks! Just lovely & will be going again.
Very good value and great quality food - just the right amount of each afternoon tea ingredient and delicious choice of tea blends.
Sandwiches freshly prepared, lovely selection and we were offered more!
Very enjoyable experience with reall good attentive service. Would recommend.
It would have been 5 stars if it was clotted cream used for the scones. Also, the other diners who were there had a choice of second helpings of sandwiches, but we didn't.
Fantastic afternoon tea in a beautiful setting, friendly and polite service throughout
Lovely experience....especially for my dad who is a lover of trains and food !!!!....The young girl who served us was excellent and even allowed us in half an hour early...would highly reccomend the whole experience ...
We had a lovely afternoon tea for my wife's birthday. The staff were very attentive and friendly and my wife's nut allergy was well catered for.
Greatly enjoyed afternoon tea at the Countess. The staff were really friendly, and could not do enough for us.
the atmosphere was pleasant and the food was lovely.
Really enjoy the whole experience. The food, the waitress, dining carriage. Will go again.
Can't fault anything, keep doing what you're doing, the way you're doing it!
Lovely silver service and well presented staff. Beautiful scones. My own personal preference would have been clotted cream rather than vanilla cream but still enjoyed them.
Booked an afternoon tea here for a Valentine's treat. Granted, from the outside on a grotty February day it didn't look very special but once we stepped on board it was like being taken back in time. Beautiful table settings and surroundings, attentive staff and food to rival any competitor. You could tell a lot of thought had been put into the menu. I have never had soup on an afternoon tea but I now wish I had. Special touches for Valentine's such as heart shaped scones, chocolate dipped strawberries and champagne truffles made the whole experience feel very special. We drove 4 hours to get here and would have no hesitation doing so again. Thank you to all the staff for making our valentines day one to remember
Bought for my parents for Xmas & they loved it. Such a pleasant atmosphere & the food was top notch. My dad even managed to drag my mum around the museum for a couple of hours 🚂
My Christmas present from my daughter. Took my granddaughter, daughter and husband. Fabulous friendly service
A wonderful way to treat a loved one for that special occasion. Great experience to look back on.
Visiting for my husband’s birthday with our three-year-old attending too. The service was lovely, the staff were attentive, and the food was lovely. The children’s menu went down well with our picky toddler and the extra happy birthday chocolate for my hubby was a nice touch. The tea was exceptional and served beautifully in silverware, and the spectacle was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. We’ll certainly be back!
This is the second time I have been and it was just as good as the first will be back again soon 😁
it was a birthday celebration, the waitress was lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend it
Very special afternoon tea enjoyed by us all. Waitress delightful and helpful and the food was special and all was delicious. Enjoyed the unusual ‘winter’ menu starting with a small soup and a small sausage roll. That was followed by the usual sweet courses and the scone was just the best. Highly recommended.
Very charming afternoon tea inside a retired train carriage at a very reasonable price. It's within the vast National Railway museum which makes it a great spot to relax and rest your feet.
We had a lovely time and the food was great. The service by Sophie and Jess was brilliant, however the other waitress that served us was a little off hand which did put a bit of a dampener on our dining experience. Overall though it was a very nice experience and we all had a nice time.
Attentive lovely professional staff who are extremely knowledgeable about the food and relevant options
Relaxing atmosphere which transports you to another time period...
Highly recommend for any occasion. 5 Stars!
Wonderful experience great to able to enjoy an afternoon tea with vegetarian and gluten free options. Great service loved the white linen ,pretty china ,loose tea and homemade cakes. The railway carriage had a lovely atmosphere especially with the piano music and pictures. The only thing we would suggest is to improve the outside approach to the railway carriage.
My daughter and I had a wonderful afternoon tea in this charming railway carriage, to celebrate her 21st birthday. The atmosphere was cosy and intimate and the staff very attentive. We enjoyed the winter menu which included soup, pigs in blankets, really freshly made delicate finger sandwiches, light scones and exquisite little cakes. The staff even offered extra sandwiches and top up of tea. We particularly enjoyed the fact that we were allowed plenty of time to enjoy our food which certainly enhanced our whole sense of occasion. We would like to thank the staff for this experience, one which we would reccommend to family and friends and hope to repeat ourselves.
In addition to this, the national railway museum was an amazing place to visit.
Lovely afternoon tea made even more special as you can look around the museum before or afterwards
Our first trip as a couple to York- we looked up reviews of best champagne afternoon tea and all the reviews were great. We booked easily online for 12 noon and the service from staff was faultless and the food and champagne excellent. We would definitely like to do it again. A really nice treat before exploring the City.
Our afternoon tea experience was A1! Our waitress Lucy was extremely polite and very helpful.
We hope to return in the near future and have no hesitation in recommending The Countess Of York for afternoon tea.
