It was great. Very classic tea. Everything was tasty.
A lovely, birthday occasion treat. Lovely setting with excellent food served well.
All food freshly prepared and delicious. Staff were friendly but unobtrusive. Plenty to eat !! We were not hurried and the coach is so pretty and tables dressed so special. Have been many times never disappoints no doubt I will return sometime soon
An interesting experience for cream tea. I would come again and recommend it to friends.
This was the one of the best afternoon tea I have had. Generous offering of sandwiches and delightful gluten free alternatives. Highly recommend.
Surprise afternoon tea for my wife’s birthday. Beautifully restored railway carriage and the interior was very nicely furnished and quite relaxing. The champagne afternoon tea was perfect and a little different as you start with a small tea cup with soup and a small tart before the lovely sandwiches, scones and cakes. The young staff who were on duty were very friendly and professional and looked after us very well.
Could not fault the experience a perfect place to sit and enjoy the occasion. The staff were fantastic polite and perfectly dressed,
Arranged the afternoon tea for a birthday celebration. The food was excellent as was the service and ambience. Something a little different to the usual cafés for a cream tea, especially for a celebration. Would highly recommend.
It was like being on the orient express, with the delicious soup, finger sandwiches, and all the cakes and silver service. Everything was perfect ,Will return.
We took my mum for her 81st birthday, together with my son and his girlfriend, for afternoon tea last Sunday 27th may. Unfortunately we got stuck in traffic so were late for our 12.00 booking, but there was no problem at all, the lovely young lady seated us at our table and brought us the tea menu - what a choice! Everything was wonderful, from the beautiful China crockery, sparkling silverware to the edible delights! Sandwiches were lovely and fresh and great selection, and the cakes were delicious, the scone was the best I’ve ever tasted- as light and fluffy as air! Just beautiful with the strawberry conserve and clotted cream! My Mum had a truly wonderful time, made even more special by a chocolate topped ‘happy birthday’ cake just for her! Thank you!
Really helpful and caring service staff and delicious afternoon tea and champagne. Thank you!
LOVED it!!!! Had plenty to eat and they were very accommodating to my vegetarian diet. Also, fyi, their scones were better than Betty's!
We chose to celebrate an anniversary by enjoying a traditional silver service afternoon tea aboard the Countess of York, a restored railway carriage located near the entrance to the Great Hall at the National Railway Museum in York. The location is perfect for anyone with an interest in trains.
The restored carriage is beautifully fitted out with full waitress silver service. The atmosphere is quiet and intimate and very relaxing. The refreshments, although on the smallish side, are very tasty, as are the choice of teas/cold drinks to accompany the afternoon tea.
Perfect for celebration in a location somewhat different from the norm.
We enjoyed a champagne afternoon tea to celebrate an anniversary. Lovely surroundings and excellent silver service. Would certainly recommend this and would also return
Excellent service and atmosphere made for a fun and memorable experience
We wanted to have afternoon tea myself and my wife. We were going to the National Train Museum and when we looked at the facilities we found the Countess of York. We booked a table over the web. The whole experience was excellent from the staff to the food.
We had the best time ever there.
Very helpful when had stress with train not arriving on time moved appt lovely day
Great service and surroundings, the only negative was the scones, they were dry.
The food was amazing, the service was exceptional and attentive without being imposing. The tea itself was delicious, I had the China Rose Tea. The only thing I would suggest is replace the vanilla cream with clotted cream, but I am from Devon after all. Quite seriously this was a truly impressive afternoon tea experience. Oh and did I mention this was all in a railway carriage??? Amazing.
The food was Leeds very and a good choice of teas however I did feel a little let down with the service as I didn’t feel it was attentive enough.
My friend and I met for a weekend in York and having looked at various places for Afternoon Tea we decided that the Countess of York was the best value for money with a lovely unusual setting. The food was lovely and we especially liked the table settings. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
Lovely afternoon tea in very traditional setting. The sweets were lovely, and the sandwiches were very fresh, we were even offered seconds which is always a bonus if you're hungry! I would definitely recommend for a date or occasion.
A really delicious afternoon tea with impeccable service. There was attention to every detail from the bone China and silver cutlery to the beautiful cakes. I would highly recommend this experience.
I booked an afternoon tea as a surprise for my friend and we were not disappointed. The selection of food was very good as was the service. The ambience was better than Bettys and we did not have to queue as tables are pre-booked. I would thoroughly recommend this venue for an afternoon tea. The only slight annoyance were the schoolchildren running across the terrace directly outside the carriage, whilst the teachers looked on!!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon tea: the food and service was excellent and the surroundings in the coach were very good. Would certainly recommend and will visit again ourselves when in York.
Just perfect! Very well hosted, superb ambience, we would highly recommend the afternoon tea here.
I took my neighbour her for a belated birthday treat. Lovely setting, staff were lovely and very friendly and the afternoon tea was absolutely fantastic. Most definitely the best afternoon tea I've ever had with delious flavours. My neighbour enjoyed her treat and we had a great day in york. Would highly recommend and will definitely be returning in the future.
The other half likes to visit the museum so this time I decided we would do something I like - Afternoon tea!! It was served in a carriage which was warm and welcoming, the service was brilliant and the food delicious. The other half is a large eater and is normally disappointed with the size of afternoon tea portions but everything was just right -even the extra sandwiches they brought round! A little on the pricey side but the ambiance was lovely - will definitely do it again.
Lovely afternoon tea in railway carriage surroundings - view out of window could have been better but that's down to where it's located!
We booked an Afternoon Tea to celebrate our 46th Wedding Anniversary, during a short stay in York. It was a very enjoyable experience, as was the Railway museum - such an array of trains through history 🚂 🚝 . Very interesting, free entry ( donations ) and a fun road train back to the Minster - great !
Authentic setting, warm and relaxing atmosphere, wonderful food.Fabulous staff.A brilliant way to spend any celebration
Fantastic experience. The service was outstanding, the afternoon tea was lovely. It made a special birthday celebration even more special
Booked for a birthday treat this was the best afternoon tea we have ever had ! The period surrounding's and silver service made it very special and with great staff we will definitely be coming back again, fabulous !
This is my second visit, fantastic food, nice offer of extra sandwiches. Service good, maybe a little background music in keeping with the setting.
It was to celebrate my husbands birthday, the weather was good and it was a lovely day.the setting is so different and quiet.I was disappointed that as we had booked for 4 pm on a Saturday that they had run out of jam for the scones and we were not the only people who asked for more ,eventually they obtained more from a different outlet to late for us and the cream looked a little that it had been defrosted.for the price we paid I thought and as bookings had been done in advance I thought they should have enough of the basic food.we did enjoy our afternoon tea in a very different setting which i would suggest others try it for a special event.I do hope they learn from this and cater for there needs.
Lovely afternoon tea in a splendid setting; good service and a lovely Saturday afternoon treat.
Excellent afternoon tea, would recommend
What a lovely experience! The setting was beautiful and the food and service were faultless, I would definitely recommend afternoon tea here. Good value too.
Very pleasant surroundings . Food was very tasteful with plenty of choice
Lovely afternoon tea, beautiful food, great service, nice atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.
