I would go again, but my partner found the portions a little on small side as did I , however there was a few compliments of the chef and we had 3 desserts between the 2 of us so left full enough
The restaurant was very nicely laid out the staff attentive , I would return again
All in all a good experience
Had Pre-theatre menu (before going to Marlowe) - very nice meal with good quality food and friendly, efficient service without being over the top. Would definitely return when in Canterbury.
Wonderful restaurant !
We spent an fantastic evening eating lobster and steak washed down with a bottle of prosecco. Great value for money.
Excellent food and very good service. Will return more regularly 😀
An all round excellent lunch and the bread is fabulous too.
Terrific tasting menu with wine on Friday night. Great staff who were very informed and the food and wine were excellent. I particular some very interesting and unusual wines were a delight. Thanks and we’ll be back.
Food was very tasty, no complaints there. However the waiting staff do need advise how small the portions are.
We did not elect to go for a starter thinking the main would be substantial enough. However the portion was extremely small and there is no option to add a side, so despite a few admittedly delicious amuse bouches there was no way our appetite would be satisfied.
The restaurant did cook some extra broccoli for us after we complained but it took the shine off the meal which was a shame as the quality is very good.
Thoroughly enjoyed very high quality food, in particular very succulent lobster and steak. Really very good cooking. The ambience in the lounge is lovely, less so in the dining room - a touch worn and jaded. But the service is very good and the food excellent.
Lovely Valentines Tasting Menu
food good but portions are small andtherefore felt it was a little onthe expensive side. Rather noisy as they had two large parties in but they did seat us as far away as possible.
Excellent quality meal and service and especially good value with one of the OpenTable offers.
Birthday meal. Service very slow. Disappointed as was for a special occasion.
As always, tasting menu very well put together and the accompanying wine choices really matched the food well
Very nice evening
The meal was excellent, from the freshly baked bread with two different butters served with a small bowl of delicious soup, through the starter and main and the wonderfully presented and full-flavoured dessert. The setting is delightful and the service excellent throughout with our waiter explaining each dish and checking, unobtrusively, on how we were at appropriate moments. And for under £25 for a three course lunch, who could possibly complain at the price? It was fine dining at an affordable price, with each component on the plate adding to the experience and bringing different flavours and textures to the whole. Excellent.
A fantastic meal for my girlfriends birthday.
We had the tasting menu, which was fantastic, served up by very knowledgable and very well presented staff.
All round a very lovely meal.
They never had our booking and we had to leave to find another restaurant
Not allowed to take photos when dining there so that's a negative point
We ate here before a few years ago and we're not too impressed and decided to give it another go. We chose the tasting menu with wine. Really good food with some fantastic combinations. The somellier was excellent, taking time to carefully explain the wine and food pairings. Tasting + wine definitely recommended for foodies! Service was attentive and swift yet unhurried, and very pleasant at all times. Only slight disappointment was in the bar - we ordered a bottle of Dom and the glasses offered twice were dirty (only water stains, but still, I'd expect sparkling glasses in a champagne bar). This didn't overshadow an otherwise excellent evening, very reassuring to find that the service and food has come on leaps and bounds from our last visit. We will definitely be returning.
We were visiting Canterbury for the weekend, and stayed at the ABode hotel. It made sense to book the hotel restaurant for dinner. The food was really excellent, exceeding expectations - modern cuisine, beautifully cooked, and creatively presented. The amuse bouche jerusalem artichoke soup was wonderful.
Only two niggles - the wine list was not extensive, and it seemed some of the wines available for the tasting menu were not on the list. The side vegetables were overcooked, in contrast to the main event.
Excellent! We ate great food! We will definitely be back!
Pls go and try it!!!
Went on a Saturday evening before going to the Marlowe. First through the door at 5.30. Very quiet all evening - hence ambience marked down. Limited choice of food as expected but was served to a very high standard and offered great value for money. Would highly recommend.
Absolutely outstanding first time there will definitely be returning waiting staff and food were incredible
The staff were attentive, the room was laid out with plenty of room and felt very special. The food was exquisite. Although portion size is not vast, the taste certainly was.
I felt that the Head Waiter could have interacted a little more with us and the other customers. We provided a few opening lines to invite him into a conversation but was not received very well. I understand that there has to be a professionalism but interaction with the customers can add more value to the experience.
Overall, a thoroughly good experience and will be back for future special occasions.
Wanted a special occasion in a quiet setting prior to our daughter in law going to Papua New Guinei and was not disappointed. Food was excellent as was the personal service received. I will definitely be going back for other occasions as you were never rushed and had time to talk.
The staff were polite and welcoming. Food was however expensive and the portion was small for the monies that we were paying for the meal. It is pretty pricey and portions were small. I am wondering if it is a Graduation Meal and the price for the meal was increased for that night as the University of Kent had their graduation for this week for all their students.
Perhaps the restaurant would be able to advise on this.
Although the meal was for a special occasion it wasn't as enjoyable as we'd hoped. The service was great but the food was only ok. The prices as high given the quality of the meal.
Food extremely good . I do not know of anywhere in canterbury that can get close to this quality. Staff very friendly and explained food and wine well.
No pressure to leave despite the fact that we were the last ones there.
Will definitely recommend and revisit.
On arrival we were greeted at once, we had arrived somewhat early so had drinks in the bar.
After being shown to our table a vegetarian menu was provided upon request for my friend, throughout the meal service was excellent just right in fact. The food was quite simply wonderful and presentation was total perfection the dessert was so beautifully presented that my friend commented that it was a shame to eat it.
All in all a very pleasant evening. I have no hesitation in recommending this venue.
Always good food would recommend.
good food well presented and very tasty. excellent service.
We dined early at Abode as we were going to the Marlowe Theatre and were impressed by the good selection of dishes on their set-price menu. Our meals were beautifully presented and tasted delicious and the service was very good indeed.
Had a great meal for my mums birthday. Food was excellent, as was the wine. Sometimes hard to get the waiting staffs attention- a little slow with filling up glasses with wine and water. It was much better after we requested our wine and a jug of water to be left on the table! Excellent meal overall and wouldn't hesitate in recommending.
Tasting menu with matched wines and a cheeseboard
Very well cooked and presented food, varied menu and all tasted very good indeed. Service was good and the staff were knowledgeable and not obtrusive.
I had dinner with 2 friends here a couple of weeks ago and it was my first visit to the formal restaurant. Pre dinner cocktails in the champagne bar were excellent and we were then guided through to our table. The food options were good, including a separate vegetarian menu upon request, and showcased local ingredients. Portion size was good and overall I would say it was good value for money. The waiting staff were friendly and efficient and the decor in the room was very nice. All in all a pleasant venue with great food and drink.
My fiance and I were hoping to have a really special experience in Canterbury and Abode certainly met and exceeding our expectations. We chose to have the tasting menu with matching wines which, although an expensive choice, was extremely enjoyable. All the food was cooked to perfection, the choices were varied and the presentation was delightful. The sommelier was charming and very knowledgeable; the wines chosen were delicious and exciting and the delivery was extremely informative. The service we received was personable and efficient. We chose to share the cheese course (which was an additional charge and sharing was more than enough). The finale, a raspberry souffle was 'to die for'. We were made very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed every moment.
We booked via Opentable on a Monday - which isnt the busiest of evenings and so the ambience wasn't the best as there were only 5 other tables dining. We had a couple of fantastic cocktails in hte Chapagne Bar whilst browsing the menu. We chose 2 of the taster menu's [1 was with the wine choice as I was driving!] and they were simply exquisite. Beautiful presentation, and explanation by our waiter and sommelier, Simon. He was attentive throughout and keen to feed any comments back to the chef and team - what ever they may be…great or small! Overall, a really memorable evening because of the qualtiy and presentation of the cocktails, food and wine. Just a couple of points deducted because of the quietness and, therefore, ambience in the restaurant, one particularly nonchalant waiter who was overtly keen to get finished and go home which was clearly demonstrated by the speed and noisiness of him setting up the breakfast crockery and cutlery.
Although we did not go with the a la carte menu the 2 course option was exceptionally well presented and tasty. The let downs spoilt only the ambiance. The clutter of dirty glasses left on the end of the bar. The grubby old child seat left in the restuarant. Look out too for the large aluminium ladder!
lovely setting, good food, and staff are very attentive. Would happily recommend. The venue also has a bar where cocktails flow!!!
We were offered both the a la carte and pre theatre menu and all four of us opted for the pre theatre. The service as always was excellent and the food was superb. We had three courses and the sharing bread basket which was divine.
The pre theatre menu offers excellent value as well as fantastic food and choice.
Would definitely recommend and will most definitely be going back.
