Crazy Bear Stadhampton - English Restaurant
I honestly was disappointed , took my sister for her bday .. she ordered triple cooked chips... they were Definitly not triple cooked chips.. I mentioned to the waitress , she said they were .. then came out and said chief is going to change the oil... doesn’t help us !!!
Had a roast dinner on the jazz Sunday at 3.30.. the roast pots were not fresh.. they had been reheated .. such a shame as used to love coming over. Now in two minds whether to book the gin afternoon tea on 23/5/20👎👎
Go with low expectations of customer service, parking poor or inadequate for size of establishment.
Starting with food, very decent. In its quest for the 'quirky' the place is not one thing or another. Dining in a padded room and with no atmosphere. the service was somewhat cool and the sumptuous Thai feel in restaurant is contarsted by the English pub feelin the bar which seemed to have much atmosphere. It is a collision of styles that for me do not really work.
the food however was hot and tasty and had all the flavours.
Objection to over 10% being added to bill automatically.
probably won't return in a hurry.
Food was amazing. Service was great and very professional. Would always come back.
Long delay waiting for table, with no updates, one course was too salty, rest of food was good though!
Although I would recommend the venue... our table was right by the door so every time someone came in it was freezing... maybe take one less booking and seat people more comfortably
Heaven knows how many times have I dined at The Bear and this was good as ever
Food was excellent apart from the Chicken Caesar which was disappointing
Very welcoming on arrival. Excellent service. Our dinner of fillet steak and baby lobster followed by baked Alaska was high quality produce beautifully prepared and presented. We will come again. Very impressed.
Visited for our 42nd wedding anniversary. Takes around 45 mins from where we live. Viewed On-line menu was the same as experienced three weeks earlier. We returned expecting to try same and new dishes from that menu. But the menu presented was very different and to us not very exciting. I did not expect to be eating fish and chips for my 42nd WA, nor my wife tempura prawns and chips, essentially both pub bar meals. In addition - the cheese board was as simple as you could get. The triple cooked chips as uniform as you can get and not crunchy. The mushy peas was presented like a pea soup/water. Based on our first visit, we would have, and did recommend CB Stadhampton to our friends and relatives, but not now. CB organisation should by now be able to match on-line menu and what a diner sees on arrival at the restaurant.
Excellent food and service. Waitress was lovely, very informative and made good recommendations.
Food was to die for and our mouths were dancing with all the delicious flavours.
I had belly pork and my husband had venison.
We had the 3 cheese selection board for dessert and they did 6 different cheeses so we could share all 6.
Not a cheap place to eat out but worth a visit for a treat.
Fantastic food, absolutely delicious, we laughed at the tiny portions on the signature menu, but we were so stuffed by the end of our 7 courses my husband couldn't eat his cheese and biscuits.
I was so excited to visit having heard outstanding reviews. Well we were very disappointed. Everything was so rushed, we were seated, drink poured, ordered and ate 3 courses in an hour flat! After each course was cleared, our next one was out without a break so felt like they wanted to get us fed and get out. Food was ok, nothing special. The cheesecake was like a block of gelatin unfortunately. Was also told it was a Jazz weekend. I was expecting live jazz but Iut was just played on a cd thought the speakers.
Upon arrival we were greeted with a very friendly lady who led us around to the English Restaurant. We were then welcomed by the manager who seated us. Fantastic meal, top quality ingredients. Food came out with a nice pause between courses (which we like), plates were pre warmed and food was piping hot. We both loved the vibe there and loved the choice in music, it was my Wife's birthday and she had a lovely time. She was served a cold Espresso at the end, but the Waitress was more than happy to replace it swiftly. We will certainly return.
Service very slow and poor table not ready had to wait 30 mins when we got there 15min before , will not go to this on again because the beaconsfield crazy bear is a lot better and easier to get to
Everything was lovely except my husband's steak which contained too much gristle /ligaments!
A bit annoyed - on open table they said it was a special offer night where you could have the tasting menu for half price. I rang to confirm this before booking and they again said this was true.
When I got to the restaurant I asked about it and the waitress said no and made us feel a bit cheap for asking.
We had a lovely time with lovely food certain foods was better than others as in the onion rings were very poor did say this to the lady who was serving us but she took no notice.
The cocktails was a long wait but very nice when we got them
Absolutely loved the Crazy Bear English restaurant, the service was outstanding the food was delicious, we had the 7 course taster menu, the flavours of each dish were absolutely amazing so tasty. The only gripe we had was the couple sitting next to us They were very loud and clearly very drunk, there phones where constantly pinging away and it was ruining the atmosphere.... can not fault the Crazy Bear for that though.
For a weekend away for my wife & I this was perfect. Our room was amazing & so too was the food.
The food was unbelievable. Would highly recommend.
Lovely meal we came here 5 years ago and it’s just as we remembered it! Quirky venue great staff. We had a seafood sharer and it was amazing would definitely recommend and come again
One word.... Awful. Quality of food was like a wetherspoon pub. Our expectations were high, the outside was beautifully presented and lit up to get you in. But that's where the glamour stopped. It was my wife's birthday and we were a party of 5. It took 40 minutes to take our drinks order, the waitress was inexperienced and the lighting was poor. I had trouble reading the menu and had to use the torch on my phone. I guess they do that to hide what you were eating... Starters were squid and Welsh rarebit. Like eating rubber and a brick. Drinks were so over priced too. On the whole, I wouldn't recommend this place and would warn people to stay clear. I sent an email to the manager and still haven't had a reply. Just awful
Food was good but service was poor!
An excellent restaurant, great location and food and really great service, hence deserves 5 starts*
Beautiful place fantastic tasting food pleasant friendly staff
Fantastic food in a quirky, cosy, creative venue. It looked beautiful for Christmas and there was something cool to look at in every corner. We had a lovely table by the fire in the bar area and the most delicious food we have had for ages. It was our first visit and we were so impressed we will be back many times, we hope! There was a lovely little farm shop too. This is now our favourite Gastro pub in all of Oxfordshire!
Booked the 7 course taster menu on Boxing Day for my family. What an experience!
We go every christmas eve and have always had overall excellent service. This visit not so much, took 40 minutes after being shown to table before they took any orders food or drink..then failed to serve all courses but tried to charge. Service throughout evening continued to be slow and un reliable... On 2 occasions food was dropped in our vicinity and went over 2 of my parties jackets. To sum.up probably our last visit to this location.
The food was amazing. I would very strongly recommend the venison.
However, the restaurant is quite small and lacked a buzz.
Wonderful as normal , barman was very nice as well
Arrived early, but they accommodated us and gave us a great table. The service was impeccable and the food came promptly, but was absolutely delicious. The Christmas decorations created a beautiful festive atmosphere and the music was low enough to enable us to have a conversation without shouting. It was my first time there and I am definitely going back!
Very disappointing, all show no go, and even the show isn't a very good show. If you like strip clubs, polyester, drafts, average service and average food you're in for a treat.
Not based on the service received for my girlfriends 40th. I was told after booking the 40th birthday desert and questioning when it came out without any mention of her birthday that I had ruined the surprise as it came separately to the dessert!! Was quite upset. Did not recieve any kind of apology or compensation. Would not visit again
The whole stay was wonderful, the meal was very very tasty and fab cocktails
Food was fantastic and serves was excellent, made the night special
Atmosphere was nice and is obviously popular. Service was good and attentive. Food was over priced for what it was. Coffee was not good at all and we weren’t asked what type we wanted. Also we were sitting right in front of kitchen and till and the dirty tablecloths once removed from tables were just thrown in that area along with dirty dishes etc which I didn’t want to look at. I read it was a five star hotel and that sort of thing does not constitute a five star. Also surprised there was only one toilet??
Excellent service -very friendly and welcoming by bar staff and at table.
Food absolutely delicious.
Was a lovely restaurant environment, the staff was very attentive but did take a little while to be seen to at first considering how small the restaurant was and also the food did take a little while also.
Apart from that was a lovely meal and worth the money.
The food was very nice but have to pay extra after paying all that money for supplements I thought was very expensive in total
Although the service was very good and the staff friendly, the food and drink was grossly over priced. None of the main courses come with vegetables or potatoes so you have to order these separately, at a cost of £4.50 per side order. I had a side of roasted autumn vegetables which were hard and inedible. We chose not to have dessert because of the cost. One small glass of wine was nearly £10 and a cocktail £15. We were asked if we wanted water for the table and having said still tap water would be fine, we were brought a small bottle of water and then charged £4.95 for it. The ambience was okay but I certainly won't be going back.
