An establishment that offers great food. Decor and setting is beautiful in its self, you pay more of a premium for the food but you do get what you pay for. With friendly and accommodating staff. Would highly recommend and look forward to returning in the near future.
Lived locally for years and never been but I have to say what a treat and we will be returning very soon. Everything was perfect. Well done the Crazy Bear team at Stadhampton
This was the fisrt time we had been to a Crazy Bear, and we must say that the food was absolutely excellent (best Chateaubriand we've had by far), the service was quick but discreet, and all of the staff were courteous, efficient and friendly. Would thoroughly recommend :o)
We have been to the Crazy Bear many times over many years and always thought it a high class establishment with excellent service. Not anymore !! apart from the lovely lady in the restaurant who was superb and “one” of the too few barman on duty the service was at best lacking and at worst arrogant, lazy and disrespectful.
The style is still exceptional , a place where you use to feel special, not any more at £9.45 for a gin BEFORE the tonic I would have expected to be asked what gin I would like ? We had to ask where we were sitting for our meal AND for menu’s and even then only one was given to us. It truly felt like no one cared or wanted our custom and one of the bar staff spent a long time chatting with a group of people instead of doing his job. What shame it use to be one of favourites !
Great food in a unique setting. Would definitely return!
Very disappointing as had booked for Thai restaurant, staff not particularly friendly but food good. Amazed we we’re asked to leave table as they had another booking disappointing overall although grounds are amazing
This was a different and overall good experience but the service was lacking. We weren’t given the ‘express’ menus - lunch set price menus so I had to get up and ask for them. I then felt they looked down on us! We sat outside which has a lovely ambience but out table was next to the store room and every few minutes someone was in and out. My wine took ages and it was wrong and the baked Alaska tasted burnt. I object to 13.5 percent service charge being added to a table of 2!
Excellent food and service
Sat outside due to beautiful weather
Great ambience and buzz
Perfect lunch to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary
Had a lovely evening - you won’t find better ‘Badger Face’ anywhere!
Our meal was delicious apart from Husbands' burger which was dry and he couldn't eat it all.
One comment of please change the music, its on repeat so you hear every song about 3/4 times over the course of the evening.
Staff were attentive and professional.
The food was delicious and the restaurant was lovely, there was no lighting in the ladies toilets and when we told the staff they did not seem to bothered and we were told to use the disabled toilet which was in use for some time so this did shadow the experience a bit.
Really loved the Crazy Bear so was excited to go again for supper but sadly it disappointed. Service was very slow between courses and the main course was over cooked resulting in most of it being left. I really hope this is a one off as I love the Crazy Bear 😢
Always excellent food and outstanding service, would highly recommend.
The waiting stuff were not very friendly and were huffing and puffing all throughout the time they were in the dining room. They took my plate before I had when finished my last mouthful on both first and second coursers. They looked bored and I felt they were rushing to serve you so they could finish their work. The food didn't look anywhere near the quality advertised on the website. The dark lighting made it hard to read the menu or to see what you were eating. This was meant to be a special night for my wedding anniversary but it didn't feel special at all.
We had a lovely meal here. Food was fantastic. It was a Monday night, so restaurant wasn't very busy so service was top rate & noise levels low. I would expect on a busier evening it could be noisier. That said, we will certainly be visiting again.
It worked win
Great atmosphere...after they turned the music down! Buzzy and quirky environment. Waiter very friendly and efficient. Good menu variety. Have been before and will go back. Only downside was that I asked for my liver to be medium to well done and it came very very very overcooked. In fact incinerated...but the others had excellent liver cooked medium.
Just the most perfect experience. I have so many happy memories made there.
The food was great however the waiter was very rude. We noticed that he didn’t speak to the table next to us how he spoke to us. Presumably because they were older so maybe he though it was ok to be rude to us. I was given a side plate that was dirty but the lady took it straight back once she had noticed. The waiters attitude was terrible and I wouldn’t want to go back purely because of him. Other than that everything else was fine. We had a good evening together but the waiter definitely dampened our mood.
I am a fan of the Bear particularly this one
So go there and enjoy this special place
Really lovely food excellent presentation and good attention to detail. Nice relaxed ambiance. Lovely evening.
Very good night and only marred by the fish we ordered being very overdone. We were offered another glass of wine on the house which was very nice. We will be back.
Excellent service and made to feel welcome. Nothing too much trouble and food arrived well presented.
We had a poor experience at the crazy bear in Stadhampton. The food was good, but the service was appalling. The waiter was rude, unhelpful and made the experience almost unpleasant. Won’t be returning.
We booked English restaurant at The Crazy Bear to celebrate my parents birthdays. The first member of staff we met was not welcoming and simply asked for our name whilst looking down his nose at us, hardly a great start.
We were shown to our table and then served by a different member of staff who made no effort to engage with us and was quote frankly rude for the remainder of the night. The icing on the cake was when I asked to not pay the service charge on card because we would split it between all of us with cash. I was met with a disgusted look and my card taken from my hand. Once I had paid my card was thrown back at me and the waiter disappeared. No thank you, just a very rude look.
The food itself was average and general pub food at best, certainly not what I expected based on the menu. I ordered the burger which arrived with the top of the bun missing. This turned up about 5 minutes later with no apology or explanation. The rest of the food on the table was barely warm and borderline what I would deem to be acceptable.
What should have been a lovely evening celebrating birthdays was sadly far from that and we all left very underwhelmed by the whole experience and in agreement we would not return.
Delightfully quirky interior. Excellent food. Relaxed atmosphere.
Food was very nice but not worth the price we paid, very expensive for what it was, we did enjoy it but we won’t be returning, it felt very much like the pub is trying way to hard to be a high end restaurant which it is not especially as you have to walk through a bar of drunks to get to your table, there are much better pubs in the area to visit and better value for money, we paid nearly £100 for 2 of us and only 1 drink each, also gratuity is automatically added on which is very rude as the customer should have the choice to tip as they see fit.
Our most recent experience here was OK. The facilities are very nice and everyone was polite and friendly. The service was generally good but marred somewhat by an excessive and blatant drive to upsell anything and everything, a failure to provide both menus and taking an age to clear our mains.
Our starters and deserts were delicious and beautifully presented, however the steaks were over cooked and quite tough which was disappointing for the price. Will probably come back on the back of previous experiences (especially Sunday lunch) but our most recent visit was nothing particularly special.
Not been here for ages and it's not changed much at all but it felt very fresh and polished. It's such a wonderful experience, such a joy. It makes all other places feel really trite and predicatble.
Our experience was spoilt by the waitress doing everything possible to get us to spend more money than necessary.
For example telling us we needed to order side vegetables when we didn't need them; filling our water glasses so full while we perused the menu that one whole bottle wasn't enough for 4 glasses so she went and got another one which we weren't even asked about; every few minutes we were asked if we wanted any more drinks.
The food was nice but I wouldn't bother going back after this experience.
The environment makes it a very interesting experience.
Although sitting with my head up in the light fitting felt a bit too strange.
Waitress was very friendly and service was very good.
Scallops were ok. The pea purée vs size of scallops was not well balanced. Too much purée. Not the best I’ve had.
The liver dish was fantastic. One of the best liver dishes.
The duck starter was perfect and tasty.
The £15 burger was a total disappointment. At best it was an average burger.
Our evening meal in the Thai restaurant was altogether a much better experience.
Fantastic experience and one of the coolest venues in the British Isles..
Sadly there was a couple drunk and arguing - they were trying to take peoples wine from the communal ice bucket and staff although careful not to elevate the situation, were unequipt to deal with it. Ruined the whole experience.
The starter was a let down, we are regulars at the crazy bear and therefore I’m quite familiar with the menu, ordered the lobster croquettes (which I always have) and when it came , there was only 1 on the plate???!!!!! It’s always been 3, what happened to the other 2??? Menu clearly says “croquettes” that’s plural, more than 1!!! Also i’ve had this started before and it’s NEVER BEEN just the one. Let down cuz of that, otherwise wouldn’t have been a flawless evening
Very helpful and polite staff very attentive. ambience was welcoming
Excellent restaurant, with great food and service. 10/10
All the good reports checked out, will definitely go back, unique atmosphere and scrummy food.
Loved every minute of it, valentine's meal, first visit and it was fantastic, great bar, food and outside
Did not appreciate the continuous up selling from the waitress. The waiter who brought the food to the table was miserable and unfriendly. We were not given the choice of both menus either ie the A La Carte and the Express.
The chick pea yogurt sauce with the tarte tatin was almost dried out.
Cool vibe and loved the setting and furnishings etc.
