Food was very nice
Service was a little slow but nice staff
Mixture of a pompous and fake clientele
Very poor atmosphere
Food was good but bar service and beer really bad. They insist on serving draught lager in their own plain flat glasses so you are drinking flat beer. When I asked if they had a lager glass I was told no they hadn’t and the barman has served lager this way for 26 years.
They then added insult to injury by adding a made up £5 bottle of sparkling water to my bill - presumably as some sort of joke for the lager comments.
We enjoyed the quality of the food. The mood lighting however was too dark my wife had to get her torch out to read the menu. The service was good but the waiting staff need to learn how to smile and give the impression that they enjoy what they are doing because that is not the impression they give, no smiles and no interaction. Loved the decor and atmosphere.
When we arrived at the restaurant, the waiter who served us, Anton informed us that there was a set menu where we could pick a starter, main and would receive a bottle of wine. As we didn't realise there was a set menu we asked what was included and he informed us that everything on the menu was included even all of the steaks. The food came and it was nice but not amazing and when we asked for the bill Anton returned with a a bill for £132.00 but told us we would only be paying for the additional sides and Drinks and said we would not be paying for either starter or either main. To me this didn't sound right so I queried this with him several times but he assured me he was correct and that we would pay the next day when we checked out of the hotel. The next day when we went to check out we were told that Infact this wasn't the correct information and that we did need to pay for our starters and mains and when I explained what happened the lady on reception was lovely but also informed us we should of had to free cocktails included which we did not receive either!!!! Overall, I feel as though this ruined our stay completely and the incompetent restaurant staff need to be retrained and know the correct offers you have!! Neither of us wanted a starter and neither of us wanted the wine but were told this was what we got!! For such an expensive hotel I am appalled and will NOT be returning!!
Fantastic place. Lovely food, friendly staff, great atmosphere, huge cocktail list, great bar, lovely rooms, clean. A couple more vegetarian options without mushrooms would be good but that’s just me being fussy. overall a fantastic place to go.
Food was unbelievable, staff were friendly and the vibe with darkness and background music created a good personal atmosphere. Couldn’t believe how cheap the bill was at the end.
Wonderful Restaurant for a Special occasion, it was our Anniversary and the staff really spoilt us.
I love the crazy bear - got married there October 2018 and returned for an anniversary meal - and we will do so every year! We love everything about it!
I took my partner here for her birthday for lunch, the table we were on was very small and we felt cramped in...
Main I asked if instead of Rosti potatoes could I have the dauphinoise potatoes but the waiter said I’m sorry this is not Possible” I then said can I pay to have it as a side??? He said “we can’t do dauphinoise potatoes as a side”....to be fair for lunch I spent £136 and it was a special occasion and I felt upset that this couldn’t be achieved when it was such a small thing to ask, I’ve been to many restaurants and they are normally very accommodating.
A birthday is once A year and we wasn’t made to feel like it really mattered just eat the food we give you and that’s it.
Food was amazing. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend. Lots of details attractions around the venue, perfect for photos. Lush garden to chill out in.
Food is amazing and the decorating and atmosphere is quirky.
One thing.. and i guess they are not yrying to encourage Children, but a kids Sunday lunch menu with Child portions would be great!?
Very busy Saturday night, bar service was great, restaurant was lovely. One meal had to go back and One had to eat alone so not good. Service was medium.
although the food was good, the service was poor, we kept on having to ask for service. The waiters were not busy, just standing around. Just seemed uninterested in offering a good service.
This was our first visit to a Crazy Bear Restaurant and our meal had been a gift from friends for my 70th birthday. We loved the whole experience and indeed it was a very special evening from the time we were greeted until we left after our meal. We had chosen to dine in the English Restaurant, and were not disappointed with the delicious food from an extensive menu. Staff were great, lovely ambience, and even presented with a happy birthday treat just before our dessert, complete with a candle for me to blow out. The gardens were lovely and very attractively set out. We will definitely come back again, possibly staying overnight next time! Thank you for a lovely evening.
Quirky and different
Only negative comments are music was random
Lights kept getting brighter then darker - not sure if this was intentional or something wrong with the electrics
The waitress and waiters also didn’t look very happy :(
Other than that was great - food was wonderful
The Sunday roast was really amazing!!!!!!!!! Would highly recommend.
The ambiance is amazing, the menu is interesting and varied and there is a great wine list. We opted for the Signature tasting menu which was good, but perhaps a little disappointing for that type of menu. We didn't feel the courses were that special, despite being well cooked and tasty. Maybe a mis-match of expectations as the food we ate would have been great if ordered a la carte. The selection of side dishes was really good, although the portions for the tasting menu were quite large so we probably over-ordered. The wine we had was excellent and the whole experience was both satisfying and enjoyable.
We had a meal at Stadhampton on Sat night the 21st Sept, the food was amazing however I felt the lighting was to low as we had to use a torch to see the menu as well as other guests.
The waitress we had started ok then she never asked us if we wanted any more drinks and when my wife got one which she had to ask for she never asked any other of our guests if they would like another drink.
An establishment that offers great food. Decor and setting is beautiful in its self, you pay more of a premium for the food but you do get what you pay for. With friendly and accommodating staff. Would highly recommend and look forward to returning in the near future.
Lived locally for years and never been but I have to say what a treat and we will be returning very soon. Everything was perfect. Well done the Crazy Bear team at Stadhampton
This was the fisrt time we had been to a Crazy Bear, and we must say that the food was absolutely excellent (best Chateaubriand we've had by far), the service was quick but discreet, and all of the staff were courteous, efficient and friendly. Would thoroughly recommend :o)
We have been to the Crazy Bear many times over many years and always thought it a high class establishment with excellent service. Not anymore !! apart from the lovely lady in the restaurant who was superb and “one” of the too few barman on duty the service was at best lacking and at worst arrogant, lazy and disrespectful.
The style is still exceptional , a place where you use to feel special, not any more at £9.45 for a gin BEFORE the tonic I would have expected to be asked what gin I would like ? We had to ask where we were sitting for our meal AND for menu’s and even then only one was given to us. It truly felt like no one cared or wanted our custom and one of the bar staff spent a long time chatting with a group of people instead of doing his job. What shame it use to be one of favourites !
Great food in a unique setting. Would definitely return!
Very disappointing as had booked for Thai restaurant, staff not particularly friendly but food good. Amazed we we’re asked to leave table as they had another booking disappointing overall although grounds are amazing
This was a different and overall good experience but the service was lacking. We weren’t given the ‘express’ menus - lunch set price menus so I had to get up and ask for them. I then felt they looked down on us! We sat outside which has a lovely ambience but out table was next to the store room and every few minutes someone was in and out. My wine took ages and it was wrong and the baked Alaska tasted burnt. I object to 13.5 percent service charge being added to a table of 2!
Excellent food and service
Sat outside due to beautiful weather
Great ambience and buzz
Perfect lunch to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary
Had a lovely evening - you won’t find better ‘Badger Face’ anywhere!
Our meal was delicious apart from Husbands' burger which was dry and he couldn't eat it all.
One comment of please change the music, its on repeat so you hear every song about 3/4 times over the course of the evening.
Staff were attentive and professional.
The food was delicious and the restaurant was lovely, there was no lighting in the ladies toilets and when we told the staff they did not seem to bothered and we were told to use the disabled toilet which was in use for some time so this did shadow the experience a bit.
Really loved the Crazy Bear so was excited to go again for supper but sadly it disappointed. Service was very slow between courses and the main course was over cooked resulting in most of it being left. I really hope this is a one off as I love the Crazy Bear 😢
Always excellent food and outstanding service, would highly recommend.
The waiting stuff were not very friendly and were huffing and puffing all throughout the time they were in the dining room. They took my plate before I had when finished my last mouthful on both first and second coursers. They looked bored and I felt they were rushing to serve you so they could finish their work. The food didn't look anywhere near the quality advertised on the website. The dark lighting made it hard to read the menu or to see what you were eating. This was meant to be a special night for my wedding anniversary but it didn't feel special at all.
We had a lovely meal here. Food was fantastic. It was a Monday night, so restaurant wasn't very busy so service was top rate & noise levels low. I would expect on a busier evening it could be noisier. That said, we will certainly be visiting again.
It worked win
Great atmosphere...after they turned the music down! Buzzy and quirky environment. Waiter very friendly and efficient. Good menu variety. Have been before and will go back. Only downside was that I asked for my liver to be medium to well done and it came very very very overcooked. In fact incinerated...but the others had excellent liver cooked medium.
Just the most perfect experience. I have so many happy memories made there.
The food was great however the waiter was very rude. We noticed that he didn’t speak to the table next to us how he spoke to us. Presumably because they were older so maybe he though it was ok to be rude to us. I was given a side plate that was dirty but the lady took it straight back once she had noticed. The waiters attitude was terrible and I wouldn’t want to go back purely because of him. Other than that everything else was fine. We had a good evening together but the waiter definitely dampened our mood.
I am a fan of the Bear particularly this one
So go there and enjoy this special place
Really lovely food excellent presentation and good attention to detail. Nice relaxed ambiance. Lovely evening.
