An absolute disaster from beginning to end and a 75th Birthday celebration ruined. It started with the barman’s inability to complete our drinks order correctly - only three drinks so this really should not have been a problem. Our table reservation was for 20.00 and at 20.15 we asked when it would be ready to which we were told that it would be ready shortly. At 20.30 with no further update we asked again and were told that the restaurant was fully booked and they had had to deal with a conference as well. When we said this was not our fault the table manager said he was just explaining how it was and walked off. When a different member of staff walked by we asked again and asked if we could have a free drink to which she agreed, a shame that we had to initiate this. We were finally seated at 20.50, fifty minutes after our table reservation. By the time we were served our main course it was 22.10 and to make matters worse the waiter brought someone else’s dishes as well as ours and did not know which was ours and had to be helped by a colleague. The food was luke warm which we informed the waitress of when she asked how the food was. We had been waiting so long we really couldn’t be bothered to wait for this to be rectified. In the time that we were there another table walked out and we overheard a couple complaining about the length of time it was taking for their drinks to arrive. We asked to speak to a manager and she admitted that the restaurant was out of its depth that night. She did offer a free glass of champagne which we declined and she invited us to come back for a free meal another time to which I replied, ‘Why would we want to do that?!’ Such a disappointment and disgrace for a supposedly fine dining experience. I have never felt so upset and angry after a meal compounded by the fact that I felt the need to apologise to my mother on Crazy Bear’s behalf for ruining her birthday. NEVER AGAIN!!
Food ok, but hardly Thai. Mostly English and some Chinese food.
Great food , outstanding service . Food was perfectly presented , great portions , fresh and uncomplicated
The food was unbelievable and the staff were lovely. It was very expensive and there were a lot of hidden extra charges, so we ended up paying an extra £80 for a 3 course meal that we’d already paid for! But the food was very good and the setting was stunning. The whole hotel is unreal and I’d recommend it to anyone. But be warned, it is very very expensive.
Delicious food excellent service
Lovely ambiance. Had a la carte and set menu. Both very good
The food saved this review. Booked the set menu for a birthday dinner. These details were included on the booking but totally neglected by the restaurant. To be fair I think that we had a very new waiter and everybody has to start somewhere but I felt he was sent to the floor on a Friday night completely unprepared. We were given the wrong menu, had to ask for our included drink, asked to order sides when rice was already included in the main and plates were put down with a visibly dirty napkin in hand. Not what was expected from such a venue. The food was beautifully delicate and generous, although could have been more attractively presented. We were determined to have a nice time and the decor and unique setting helped but I felt we were let down a little...perhaps because of the “deal” we booked. This shouldn’t ever be the case.
The place is worth a visit for it is unique. But the place is tired and dirty. The umbrellas were disgusting, the chandeliers filthy and the hand drier in the bog was broken. 100% of the clientele were couples which was fun, it was like Love Island. One girl had the label of her new dress sticking out. LOLZ.
Delicious food, friendly and helpful staff. Brilliant experience
An ecclesiastic Thai restaurant in English countryside. The food is authentic and the atmosphere is very enticing. Meat is from its own farm and is very good quality. I look forward to trying it’s english restaurant
Great restaurant, great food with a very different feel than most pub restaurants.
Service was good and very helpful when advising us on the quantity.
We will certainly go back.
I had read some reviews before we went and so was a bit concerned it might not meet our expectations. I had been some years previously to the English restaurant in the evening which was lovely. This time we had the Thai menu at lunchtime outside. It certainly exceeded expectations and was glorious. It is a little pricier but it’s not just the food that you’re paying for! The service was excellent and definitely much better than recent reviews led me to believe. I would 100% recommend Crazy Bear Stadhampton!
Plush and pretty decor within a period building with lots of character and ambiance. Food is outstanding and always great service.
Incredibly welcoming and friendly staff at the bar and in the restaurant. Were very attentive and did all they could to make our experience as good as possible. Food was delicious and held a high standard. Would be keen to dine here again.
So disappointed. We went on a package and the menu available was nothing like the menus on the website. Standard run-of-the-mill Thai dishes you can get anywhere, but with supplements and extortionately priced sides. All served in a poky overcrowded basement where everyone feels like they have to whisper because you are sat on top of each other. We dared to comment that the bill seemed high and were confronted en masse by defensive staff who clearly have to deal with more complaints than compliments. This place would have been amazingly quirky and different when it was first done- now it is just confused and a bit desperate. We will not be back
Didn’t expect for every one to have to sight very closely together. My partner wanted to sit opposite as we always do but was told this wasn’t allowed. It is sooooo much smaller than it looks in the pictures and very small and closed in which I didn’t feel comfortable with at all. So much so I cancelled mains as I couldn’t relax being that tightly seated. The ceilings are very low and deco is very dark.
We was so close to the next tables they actually over heard our conversation and joined in! I felt very awkward facing a complete stranger that was seated on the wall in front rather than my boyfriend.
The waitress wasn’t very pleasant and seemed everything was an effort. Doesn’t write anything down and forgot one of our starters which I asked for a further 2 times! We unfortunately also had the same lady for breakfast which again she didn’t seem interested in anything we asked for as she was too busy listening to conversation on the table next to us.
The bill came with a 13% charge on which I wasn’t very happy to pay for the service we received
Attended for Lunch on a Saturday expected it to be packed but was actually quite quiet with only 2 other couples there, despite our second round of drinks being forgotten the service was otherwise brilliant and food excellent. Would definitely recommend
Food extremely nice
Food was amazing. However the decor is seriously weird and off-putting, low ceilings, velvet walls with strange faces sticking out of the walls, uncomfortable seating.
Very enjoyable evening. Staff were slick and quick, and the food was great. Well recommended.
Would advise that anyone over about 5'11 will find the low seats difficult to navigate though.
Overall, I did have a nice time at the Thai restaurant, BUT I was a bit unhappy/disappointed with the online booking system, when I arrived and got seated, I asked for the Express Menu (2 courses for £15 or 3 courses for £20) but the waitress said I needed to book that online which I don't remember having that option or it mentioning anywhere on the website, which is what i said to the waitress, and she sais we can have the express menu this time but next time we have to book it online, so i checked online again to see if I have missed it, but still cannot find this option or function on the website which is a bit worrying for next time. Thank you
Tables are really close together, but the food was great.
Great place, beautifully decorated however slightly overpriced
Yes we would recommend the Thai restaurant, food was excellent
Fantastic setting and environment. Superb food with lovely friendly service. Thoroughly enjoyed evening.
Unfortunately let down by the service and unhelpful attitude by some staff members.
There was a mix up with the booking which seemed to put the waitress in a bad mood with us. Took 20 minutes to be asked for our drink order, another 15 minutes waiting for our drinks to arrive.
At the end of the meal the discretionary service charge was added to my card payment without question which made it awkward to refuse.
Food was lovely and a nice ambiance.
Delicious food and lovely cosy atmosphere. We had the 8 dish menu for 2 of us and the only negative was that it came with a very small bowl of rice for 2 people, which was not enough, meaning we had to pay for an extra portion.
We booked a table at The Crazy Bear to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We’d been before, with friends to the English restaurant, and it was excellent, so we’re expecting the Thai to be as good.
We had the ten course taster menu as recommended by our friendly, helpful and knowledgeable waitress, and the food could not have been better. In particular the Thai duck and pomegranate salad was simply delicious. All the dishes were nicely presented, tasty, and exquisitely spiced. We were a bit short on rice though.
The restaurant itself, very cleverly decorated, and beautifully lit. Perfect for a romantic meal. The Thai restaurant is small and intimate, and as it was a Friday night, fully booked, so not a lot of space. The staff did not take our coats, and as seating was on a long low bench, we had no choice but to sit on our jackets and bag, so not that comfortable.
My main issue was the chatter of some other diners. It was cramped, so were tables packed closely together. Not usually an issue, as you normally lower your conversation tone appropriately in such situations. However, the couple across and to the right of us were staying the night, having bought a Groupon deal, and had had lots to drink, and got louder and louder as the evening progressed. Their language was blue, and they progressed to telling their life story, and other inappropriate tales loudly to all the tables surrounding them, making it difficult to have a quiet conversation between us.
The food and decor here could not be faulted, neither could the staff, but because of other rowdy diners, it was not quite the romantic celebration we’d been looking forward to.
Went here recently with friends. The staff were rude and above themselves with quite an attitude. One of the party had an allergy to prawns and we asked if we cld swap to another starter. (We had chosen a set menu). We were told no but cld swap with veggie starter. We decided not to swap. When the starter came out the prawns were touching the other starters. When we pointed this out the waitress looked at us blankly and proceeded to tell us what the starters were. Also be aware they add service charge @13 1/2% which is expected and not earned. Have gone to this restaurant quite a few times over the years but will not be rushing back due to very poor service.
Unfortunately our waitress didn’t write our order down and then had to come back to the table to check she’d remembered it correctly, to do this she pointed her finger at us individually and repeated the order; I, personally feel that this is highly improper etiquette. We ordered a bottle of champagne with our meal and the same waitress brought the bottle over and promptly served us, at no time were we shown the bottle to check it was the one we’d ordered. The tables are so close together it felt intimidating to mention anything that may not have been right for us, as the whole restaurant would have heard. The service at the bar was very slow too.
Lovely food in a gorgeous setting, a bit cramped and seats a bit too low down & drinks very expensive.
Lovely food, and the waiter was super helpful.
Howvere, the tables were very close together and we were near a large party of about 15 men who were loud and ruined the ambiance somewhat.
If the room was bigger and the boozy work party weren’t there it would have been perfect.
Delicious food and excellent atmosphere and service. I will definitely eat here again.
The Thai Restaurant at The Crazy Bear is like a James Bond set. We had the most wonderful meal, the setting was unique and the service spot on. We totally enjoyed the whole experience, loved the food and will definitely return.
I came here for my Birthday with my partner. We ordered the 10 plate tasting menu. It was amazing. Every dish was exceptional. Lots of choice of cocktails. Service was Great Food! Came out prompt and hot. I have nothing negative to say. Really happy I chose to come here. I really enjoy thai food, ive been to a fair amount of thai reataurants in london. It was possibly one of the best thai restaurants I've been to.
Amazing service, Amazing food and a lovely seating area. Will be returning again 100%
Overpriced in my opinion! Service was not brilliant, and the food did not reflect the price tag.
The guys in our group were really rowdy and the staff dealt with them so so well and didn’t moan or tell them
Off! Really cool place and great staff!
Funky quirky but stylish restaurant. Gorgeous food but for a a good price
We had a lovely dining experience at the Crazy Bear Thai restaurant. The food was delicious and the service staff were fantastic. We had the table for a couple of hours and that felt like ample period of time there.
The food was outstanding and the service very good, but drinks were slow from the bar and felt very close to the other diners it was alittle too intimate for a friend meal for my birthday but overall I enjoyed the experience and would def go again but maybe on a date
