Crazy Bear Stadhampton - Thai Restaurant
Food was amazing not one criticism,
however because of how small the restaurant area is every possible space has been filled with a table making it quite uncomfortable to have a private conversation, even standing at the bar to have a drink while you wait is uncomfortable due to the tables right behind where you stand,
It’s not fair if your seated at these tables or to the people stood at the bar,
Staff were very pleasant,
Overall experience was ruined due to how crowded together the tables are,
The food was superb with attentive service.
However for me the ambience of the restaurant was not quite there.
It is a very small space and it felt like private conversation was difficult when seated almost on top of your neighbours.
However they have done a good job with a small space, but I like a little more private space around me.
We chose the offer on open table for the 12 plate signature meal with champagne for my birthday
Very disappointing evening. Food was very expensive for what we ordered and wasn't particularly great. Service was slow and staff unenthusiastic. Would not go back.
Setting was great, quirky. Food was delicious. Service was fantastic. I think this is by far the best of the Crazy Bear options - far beats service, food & ambinece in Beaconsfield. Staff went the xtra mile and made a fuss of me on my birthday.
Only niggle, I don't understand why the express menu isn't offered with the main menu - it felt like they were keeping that "under the table". Even was asked they said they couldn't find it and it all felt slightly uncomfortable. Had to go to the office to then print off replacements. Its advertised on website as being available to menu's should be offered as standard at the times its applicable.
Amazing iconic and a special treat.......you will not be dissappointed
Excellent as ever. A special occasion place for us because of the price but it’s always worth it for quality & taste .
Had an amazing time
Food was delicious
Service was excellent
All staff were warm and friendly
Definitely visit again sometime
Great food and great atmosphere for a very small restaurant.
Only let down is the service charge being added to the bill rather than it being the customers discretion
Excellent service food was great. We went to the Thai restaurant is was lovely
The food was ok and glad we had an open table offer as certainly would not be worth the money at normal price for 12 course sharing as it was very basic courses eg. Packet bought prawn crackers counted as one of the courses. Its beautiful in there but you are sitting on top of each other half the amount of tables would make the ambiance perfect. Nearly all staff at crazy bear are phenomenal and couldnt do enough however we had one very rude arrogant waiter (old grey haired man with a handle bar mustache) food wasnt bad but certainly nothing to shout about
On positive side food was exceptional and atmosphere amazing. The cocktails were also lovely .
On ‘could be improved ‘? We arrived exactly on time but were rushed through everything, which was particularly annoying since our first course took 30 mins to arrive and our pre-dinner cocktails arrived even later than that!
Both we and couple on next table were asked to close out dinner tab before moving to bar; this seemed an unnecessary and annoying inconvenience that I have never experienced before
Service was polite and friendly
Lovely food. Polite staff, very good however sometimes they were forgetful. Atmosphere is good, however it is a little squashed. Lovely decor
Overall a good evening.
Amazing food and stunning restaurant, service could have been better
The food was of a high standard. The decor is certainly very different and ‘instagrammable’.
However the whole experience was let down by the poor, inattentive service and cramped conditions. As an example we were touching the people on the next table as there seems to be two too many tables for the size of the very small Thai Restaurant.
Whilst the food was delicious and well presented, we would not recommend this restaurant, nor visit again.
Small location but amazing food and the gentleman was helping us had an amazing customer service from the beginning to the ends , really rare to find in uk
It’s with mixed feelings that I write this review! The CrazyBear is actually one of my favourite restaurants and I would usually give it a five star rating, however on this occasion it did not live up to expectations.
We arrived about 15 minutes early and sat down immediately. The service is normally prompt but at this time we waited patiently for a good while before our drink and food orders were taken. Eventually we got around to ordering our food and I informed them immediately (as well as giving advance notice on my booking) that I am vegan and gluten free. It has never previously been an issue and it wasn’t this time either. Food service was relatively slow, but this was not an issue as we were chatting and enjoying the ambience.
On receiving my dessert I asked again to double check this was indeed vegan, as it was a pannacotta and mini meringues (although possible to make vegan - I was impressed by the effort!) - after tasting one of the meringues I knew that they were not vegan and immediately asked the server. Who apologised profusely, however I am vegan mainly for intolerance reasons and so hoped it would not have any impact due to the small amount! (Unfortunately it did have an impact!)
In addition to this, he followed his apology with ‘we need you to vacate the table as soon as possible for the next sitting’ - we hadn’t even finished our desserts! I could understand if the time at the table was due to us, but being sat at the table for nearly 2 1/2 hours was due to the slow food service.
I was not offered anything other than an apology after serving me food I was intolerant to and we were swiftly moved on from the table.
Normally 5 star - hopefully this incident is not reflective of their 2020 objectives, but it will be a while before I visit again!
Honestly this was one of the best Thai meals I have had outside of Thailand.
Wonderfully authentic and flavourful offerings that really blew me away!
I opted for the vegan set menu and have never been quite so thrilled and daunted by the amount of food served.
It is well worth the visit for the meal let alone the beautiful hotel!
Poor service. Had to ask to place order after being seated for 25 minutes, had to also ask to place our mains order. Two staff covering 6 tables at the start of our evening so wasn’t busy, they were just very unobservant. Drinks took too long to arrive. I ordered a drink after my starter and it still hadn’t arrived after my main so had to cancel the drink. Decor was odd, not Thai. Benches were extremely uncomfortable and narrow in depth. Feels like too many people crammed into a small space.
the food was delicious and with the £33 per head deal it felt worthy value.
the service was poor, with slow transfer between courses and limited follow up from the waiter
we would not have felt the original price was worth paying.
The room was cold and dark. The speaker for music was directly above our table and too loud for us to talk comfortably without feeling disturbed
There is a horrible moldy smell in the downstairs restaurant dining area. Why they would sit anyone there is a mystery to me. It was intolerable.
Great place for a Thai meal, a touch on the expensive side but very tasty...
Absolutely superb .. we have eaten Thai food all over the world, and this is probably the best yet !! Highly recommended 👌🏻👌🏻
Brilliant service the whole night, lovely setting and the best food, definitely recommend. Had lots of little bits to share and it was just right for 3 people.
Amazing treat for our anniversary. Lovely food, atmosphere and such a cool, quirky place
First time visiting and would definitely return - brilliant service and food! Really well looked after and a different experience which I would certainly recommend.
Amazing service very knowledgeable host especially regarding wine menu!!!
Thai Taster menu portions much too big we left 50% totally stuffed you could double your profits but food very very tasty
The best Thai food I have had. Great waiter to explain the menu and options. Eclectic venue, well worth a visit.
Waitresses are so rude and stuck up. I have been here 3 times now and always add extra random things on the bill.
Great overall experience- would come again, the food was delicious!!!
It used to be great, but it just feels overpriced for average food now.
Intimate Thai restaurant- excellent staff- food is good but drinks are expensive, and whilst we knew we only as the table for an hour and a half, I think that when you spend £250 for four people, you shouldn’t be rushed off the table.
Constantly being reminded that we only has a 2 hour slot was really annoying and unprofessional and embarrassing.
Rushed off of our table into the packed bar where we couldn’t sit - even though we’d only had the table 1hr 20mins
Starters were horrendously overpriced for what we got!
Main course was good!
Wonderful food as usual
Never disappointed! Another wonderful experience. Wonderful head waiter and lovely ambience !
Thai chef and excellent service in a quirky surrounding. Music was excellent and at the perfect volume. Tables were a little close together
Fire door left open hence room cold
Waiter unsure about the menu contents. Started to argue about what was available. When the error was pointed out they report they didn’t know.
Seemed keen on moving us out - at one point trying to take away dishes and plates before even finished.
Food was good. The service was poor
Venue is unchanged for many years and starting to show its age
Excellent. Maître d was superb. Food was incredible. Thank you
I dined here for an engagement meal. My family called up prior to my meal and brought a voucher to pay towards my meal (to which I would find out when my bill arrived).
We arrived at the bar, it was busy and I had to wait at the bar to speak to someone to say we had reserved. After about 10 minutes, I got the attention of the barman, he managed to call a staff member who seated us.
They offered us champagne to buy to celebrate, but we refused as we do not drink alcohol.
Drinks and food order was taken promptly. Crackers arrived and plenty of them too, followed by our food. Food was good and no complaints there. The restaurant was busy, who we guessed were mainly hotel guests.
Bill arrived closed to £100, which I paid. The waiter advised that the service added would not go to the staff directly but to the company and stated that we did not need to pay and can leave cash tip instead. We accepted this offer and left a cash tip and avoided the discretionary service charge of 13%.
After I got back home, I spoke with my family to find out that they had brought a voucher and was asked whether it got deducted. I was bemused and told them I paid full price without the voucher being applied.
We called the restaurant to tell them of this error, and he said to call back and he can give a refund as we was busy cleaning the empty tables (more reason to help us as the restaurant was now empty!!). I asked to speak to someone senior as it was more about the occasion and surprise rather than a refund! Called next day only to be given a sorry and a refund. No care was given and the surprise my family had lined up did not pay off, and this led to us giving Crazy Bear Thai Restaurant a bad review for the lack of care after we complained and their ability to fulfil the voucher when the bill was provided.
