One of the oldest inns in Dorset, this magnificent Georgian house is said to be haunted by a women in black and a cloaked highwayman who was shot dead in the courtyard. The beautifully panelled walls and carefully restored Oak floors make this the perfect place to explore the wonderful Georgian town of Blandford and the wider beauty of the Blackmore Vale. The Crown also boasts 32 en-suite bedrooms, conference and banqueting facilities for up to 180 people and a large car park.

Unfortunately we are unable to accept online table bookings for our outdoor tables.

We had a bit of a shaky start by waiting 15 mins for 2 cokes and a lemonade to arrive, it was very busy though. Everything else was fine. Attentive and friendly waiter and good food.

Service was satisfactory but one waiter was a bit over the top. Trying too hard with ‘witty quips’ got a bit annoying.

Had a lovely meal for my daughters birthday, a fair choice of food to choose from, the wine was very good. The staff were all friendly and helpful, a very pleasant evening and we will be going back again soon!
It was a little chilly sat by the door as the main entrance doors opened there was a rush of cold air, could have been better with the restaurant doors closed.

Booked for a quick lunch before heading to the airport.... everything was lovely except when we booked we had advised there was a wheelchair user with us, however when we arrived we had been placed up a set of stairs! This fortunately was quickly rectified.
The food was lovely, too much sauce on one of the smoke & spice burgers. Would go back again

Our meal was good but the service was slow. It was between 30 and 45 minutes wait in between our starter and main course which did not help us to feel well looked after. the waitresses were helpful and friendly.

We were disappointed our lunch was cold, we did complain and the gentleman was very helpful and apologetic, we do also appreciate it was a hectic lunch and with just a few staff this was going to happen. We come in quite regularly as we enjoy the ambience too.

Such a lovely setting for a spontaneous family lunch. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating and the food was perfect! Even with a full restaurant the staff didn’t fail to make us feel like we were the only ones there.

We all loved it!

Food was delicious and staff very attentive in a very nicely laid out dining area. We were celebrating a birthday and the staff wished a happy birthday and a complementary glass of champagne which was a very nice touch and made our visit memorable.

Our Sunday lunch at The Crown was probably the best Sunday lunch we've ever eaten out. The portions were very generous and the meal itself was lovely

The service & the meal was wonderful. Had a lovely night but the price of drinks was very expensive. £20 for a bottle of rose. Having said that would go back for the meal which was generous & tasty.

best sunday lunch ever, but patrons with babies screeching and young children shouting severely lessened the overall pleasure - better to separate those with children in another dining area.

Was the best by a long shot.
Now i'm not so certain.
The change left a lot to be desired.
Where it was cosy and romantic it is now slightly cold and unappealing.
My wife was not happy with the shabby chic.
Too much shabby and not enough chic.
Must say, for the dogs it was brilliant.
Would always come to you if you could fit us in. Now i'm considering looking else were.
Shame.
Regards,
Roger Ford

As always, The Crown never fails to provide an excellent service. We arrived for a Business celebration on a Friday lunchtime - we had pre-ordered our food, were greeted as soon as we had sat down and our drinks order was taken. The staff are always so friendly, the food was amazing and as it was a special occasion we had brought our own cake as dessert. nothing is ever too much trouble - well done The Crown!! We will be back very soon.

And the staff should let you have your on space and not hang around the table talking to you to long

Good variety of dishes and wines by the glass on offer. All our meals looked good, tasted lovely and were reasonably priced. The dining room decorated with pictures was like an old period study and made a nice change to the bare walled and hard floored restaurants that suffer from too much noise. Will return

Overall, a pleasant enough evening for our first ever visit. However, your staff are overly casual in their approach. The girl who served the wine had no idea about presenting the bottle, offering the wine to be tried or indeed pouring . That is not her fault but she should have been trained adequately. The venue is a little reminiscent of a French brasserie but in France the waiting staff are very correct and take a pride in their professionalism. Long flowing hair is inappropriate in table staff or kitchen staff.

Whist the food was good, we waited a lengthy period between courses. I did not leave a tip.

Table for 5 booked for lunch. Nice menu, plenty of interesting choices, good comprehensive wine list, we had a very nice Rioja. Everything was absolutely fine. The initial service was attentive and efficient, but I got the impression that we overlapped a shift change and a couple of times I had to leave the table to find a waiter. I recognise that the bar seemed very busy and overall there were a lot of folks generally in the establishment. This did not seem to be matched by the number of staff present.
I really should say that none of the above spoiled anything, and is not significant enough for a complaint, but that's why they got an overall 3 stars.
