Inspired by the traditional flavours and textures of simple Italian cuisine, Cucina Asellina's ethos is reminiscent of a humble Mediterranean kitchen. A warm, inviting atmosphere will welcome guests to enjoy classics prepared just as one would envisage served around an Italian family dinner table.
Cucina Asellina takes inspiration from the original Asellina Taverna in Pompeii, and the legend of Asellina herself who was regarded as a female pioneer of Roman hospitality.
Guests will be able to experience Asellina from 10am for morning coffees and breakfast plates, through to all day dining then cichetti and cocktails before dinner, finishing at midnight.

Good food, really well prepared, nice wine, good service. The place wasn't crowded at all, few people in few tables, to be able to properly judge and give it outstanding I need to see when it is really full!
Food was fine. Nothing speciaL but some nice risotto. Cheapest "fizz" was £50.. Stupid.
I've been here before when it was a more standard restaurant, so I wasn't expecting the new smaller plates menu. But the food was good, tasty and well-balanced. And most importantly the cocktails were brilliant! We needed to get in and out in 75 minutes to get to the opera and they were really appropriate about helping us get through in time, but without appearing rushed or hassling us. Really good meal.
Took some clients here for lunch last Friday, noticed they had changed their menu to a more tapas style menu - we were recommended to order about 12 dishes for 5 people which was more than enough! The standouts were the mini pizzas, the cured meat platter, the lamb chops, and beef carparccio. The food was delicious and we will definitely be back here.
We were looking for at least somewhat out of the ordinary pre-theatre meal venue and were certainly not disappointed. Striking decor, high ceilings and huge windows create an impression of a ballroom rather than a tapas place. The menu was large enough for all three of us to choose suitable options, and the tapas format was more of an advantage than nuisance as it allowed us to try a few things. Both the zucchini soup and mushroom risotto were both nice and unusual in a way, other family members were happy with arancini and meatballs. The service was attentive if somewhat rushed. Overall, a very decent meal in a great location, will certainly come again and recommend to friends.
My first visit here. Wonderfully calm inside and beautifully decorated. Attentive staff and the most delicious food. If there were any down side the last dish arrived about 5 minutes after the rest of the dishes had been cleared away but otherwise superb.
Booked for a pre-theatre meal for a party of 6, we had an excellent meal and friendly and attentive service. However, we were disappointed to find that the pre-theatre menu was not available unless pre-booked. Pre-booking the pre-theatre meal is not an option available on OpenTable.
Was the firs time we tried Cucina Asellina, and went with friends for a catch up - great food, very tasty, and a good selection to choose from. Service very friendly too! Good location for the West End and theatre etc.... too!
Very good, attentive service. The food was very good, a little pricey but it's London! The waiter explained everything really well in fact the best service I have had in a long time. Nice ambience and decor.
Excellent food, ambience and service lovely. My only criticism is that we ordered 10 tapas style dishes between us and they were all delicious but they bought them all at the same time and they got cold . The added bonus is we went next door to the radio bar and have fabulous cocktails on the rooftop with amazing views over London
My husband and I discovered this restaurant 2 years ago when we were in London. We absolutely loved the food and thought it was the best Italian we had had outside of Italy. On my recent trip last week we couldn't wait to go back. Well, it was quite a disappointment. They had changed the menu completely to a tapas restaurant with very few Italian dishes. We were really not in the mood for tapas. That said the food was fine but nothing memorable. I will have to say that they did keep their spectacular Tiramisu on the menu (which is the best I've ever had) and that was a definitely highlight.
That said, I would go back for the dessert but not for dinner...
This was good. Not really cheap but not crazy expensive. Just great all round. Tasty, good staff, looks great, good venue. Will be back.
Food was lovely and nice that if was tapas so you could try a few different things. Service was excellent, the waitress was very friendly and took time to explain the menu. They had run out of the wine we wanted so offered another one for the same price and was delicious.
Food was outstanding, but be aware it's tapas size dishes so best to get around two dishes each. Service was terrible from the very start. Made to wait at the bar when our table was ready, wasn't told it was tapas style when we were seated, had to ask to have our order taken twice, half our food they tried to clear away before we were finished and last dish only arrived after all the other food was finished. Very disappointing that the service ruined what was a lovely meal
We didn't understand the concept at first and couldn't figure out why the prices were so low in Central London. However, once we realised it was Italian small plates, we couldn't wait to get started. This was a great find. I love starters and often order those rather than a full meal, so having a whole meal of starters was fantastic!! They suggest 2-3 plates per person, but we all thought two was plenty and no one ate the bread as there was so much food. All four of us loved the concept and will definitely go back again.
An Italian tapas concept from New York that offers a really fresh approach that's ideal for pre/post theatre or other occasions where a lighter dinning experience is welcome.
Nice selection of food. Only problem was they ran out of the wine we were drinking and the one in the next price bracket up. Nice for a group dinner with sharing plates.
We arrived early for pre theatre dinner, so quiet. Staff all great and were honest about a mistake with the wine menu. Food was lovely - liked the tapas idea - and plates we tried were very good. Both wine waiter & waitresses happy to make suggestions. We would return again.
I booked this restaurant for an early evening Valentine's day meal and it didn't disappoint. We had a lovely table in the corner and our waiter was incredibly helpful and attentive. We opted for the main tapas menu and ordered 6 dishes to share. Get the octopus!
An interesting twist on Italian food. Lovely dishes served in tapas sized portions making it possible to try lots of different dishes
An excellent place to eat pre and post theatre or just for supper!!
Nice welcome when we arrived the food was good (Italian tapas )the fish dishes were a bit over cooked but the meat was very good, would go back again and try more dishes.
Pleasant but not not overall special
Had a very lovely last minute dinner here before a show - we ordered 3 plates each and this proved to be far too much! great selection of food though, from Calezone, to pasta, to buratta. Quite salty, but otherwise very good value.
Arrived with my son 15 minutes early so sat at the bar, ordered cider and glass of sauvignon blanc. Bar tender gave me glass of Chardonnay this I pointed out, he apologised (later I discovered it was £13.00 for the 175ml glass)
We were shown to the table and ordered the food. The food was fresh (albeit small portions) and tasty, however, the staff seemed confused as to which order food should arrive. One starter arrived then the two main courses and after almost giving up with the second starter it arrived about half hour after the mains.
During the meal I asked for a glass of red wine, the waiter arrived with another glass of Chardonnay, I told him there seemed to be some confusion, he apologised and came back with the red wine.
The bill arrived showing two glasses of Chardonnay £26 after pointing this out it was rectified by the waiter.
Fortunately I wasn't confused when it came to paying the bill, I didn't pay the service charge.
Overall it was an Ok evening, however it is important that if they want to be taken as an Italian Pizzeria they understand their own language, i.e. Primo Secondi.
Welcoming and sophisticated atmosphere, food was varied and good
Hadn't realised this was a tapas style restaurant when booking. However we were pleasantly surprised. Members of staff were very helpful and extremely friendly. We were made to feel very welcome. Attentive and efficient service.
The food was extremely good. We had 6 different plates and all were delicious, couldn't fault any of them. Can particularly recommend the endive salad with pear and walnut, the dressing is wonderful.
The restaurant is very attractive and the only reason I awarded 4 stars for ambience was because we were the only customers dining, although it was very early. However we did not feel at all uncomfortable and would certainly return here again.
An excellent find especially as a pre/post theatre restaurant. The service and food were excellent. Really well cooked small plates for sharing. Highly recommended.
We had a great time at Cucina Asellina: the atmosphere was nice and the various dishes were tasty. Definitely would like to go back if I am in the area.
Great venue and location. Food not quite to the standard you'd expect at a central London hotel.
Waitstaff works as a team so be prepared for that. Food is very delicious; however order in which the small tapas plates comes out was very random. Main courses came out within minutes and appetizer courses showed up in middle. Wine can take a bit to appear. Good atmosphere, good staff attention.
This restaurant is in a great location, can't believe I hadn't seen it before. The food was amazing, Italian tapas, we had Arancini, Veal Meatballs, a Piazetta, and the lobster ravioli is to die for! Having read other reviews I was worried about the service but it was excellent, if anything a little too attentive, maybe in response to comments on your site. Overall a great experience and not too expensive. I'll be back!!
I had dinner twice in this restaurant. Great ambience, trendy with nice music but without being too loud. Ideal place to share, the menu is composed just by small plates with a great variety of options.
Not the best experience, noisy pub-like atmosphere. We were given a high table instead of a proper dining table. Poor service, inattentive waiting staff.
Food was average
We went on the deal which was great value for money, particularly with the unlimited champagne! Excellent food, ambience and friendly service! Highly recommended venue for semi-formal venue with good value for food.
We found Cucina Asellina online through open table after we couldn't get booked in to other recommended restaurants by friends who know the Covent Garden area. It must have been fate as this place was fantastic.
My wife and I were visiting London for the weekend, and after shopping and midday drinks we went here for dinner at 8pm. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was tapas style so you order a few dishes and share.... All the food was amazing with a couple of standout dishes that were exceptional. You know.... When you try something and can't stop doing that Mmmm noise.?
The atmosphere was great. There were a mix of couples and groups. The decor was cool too. And the thing that surprised me the most was the price. Each dish was anywhere between £5-£7 so the final bill wasn't as expensive as I had expected.
We will go back and I've already recommended this to my London friends as a must visit restaurant .
Fabulous food and a great atmosphere
After reading some of the reviews put on after I had booked the unlimited prosecco and 3 dishes deal for £25 I was understandably apprehensive but could not have been more pleasantly surprised. It was a Friday night so very busy but we were not neglected at all. Our waitress Francesca was both adorable and attentive and the food was really scrumptious. I think people should not criticise a restaurant based on some thoroughly nasty and quite frankly straight out of the gutter customers that they had the misfortune to have on the premises that particular evening, it's simply not fair practice, the poor staff were terrified and shocked by all accounts. I would encourage anyone who was there that evening to go back and try them again - you won't be disappointed I promise! Would highly recommend!
Delicious Italian small plates and even more delicious was the prosecco when I discovered it was bottomless.
