we have made this one of our go-to places. The service is always great, and the food is just to our liking and a very good value. We bring friends and family who always praise the same things we like about Nama Sushi Bar.
We returned to Twenty Nine to experience an intimate dinner for our family (children returning home from college for Thanksgiving). Having the entire counter for ourselves was a treat in itself, and Chef Zack took us on a wonderful culinary journey! The fact that menu and fish selection changes daily while maintaining their commitment to showcase the local vegetables and the best fish flown in from Japan set them apart from everyone else in DC. Our dinner was awesome, with some of the highlights being Lomi Salmon, assorted Toro selection and more. The dinner was capped off with a tea and persimmon shaved ice dessert, which was one of the very best desserts I’ve ever had. Can’t wait til they open their actual restaurant in Spring 24.
Fantastic experience. I recommend sitting at the sushi bar and talking to chef Johnny. He’ll teach you all about the different cuts and preparations. The “trust the chef” menu option is fantastic. Dont think about it, just let Johnny make you a plate. The sushi sashimi platter was enough food for one person if you are hungry
We really enjoyed our time. Arrived during happy hour, but they also have a great selection of Japanese shochu and also mock tail options. The food was fantastic. Ambiance felt very authentic. Highly recommend for a informal relaxed fun time.
I visited Gyu-Kaku for the first time on Thanksgiving 2023 during lunch. I was impressed by the quality of meat and the marinade flavors. The sides were also seasoned well. All portions were very small which we were warned about when we sat down. I’m not understanding this small plate concept in and near the city at this point. We’re now paying more or the same prices for smaller plates just to call them small plates? We’d have paid $200 to fill up if we’d not run out of time to catch a movie. They also have a time limit dependent on number of guests which is kind of absurd. I’d just have appreciated more than 6 very small pieces of beef for $26.
