The menu and food was outstanding. This was the first time I chose a restaurant in Blue Back Square. I usually go to the old town center on La Salle and Farmington. But I was intrigued that they had a location in Madison. I ordered the duck bolognese pasta. My guests ordered the mussels and the prime rib special. Everyone was happy with their meal which is rare. I also like that they have a separate bar room and dining room, both of equal size. I’m not a fan of people eating full meals at the bar; here, you can enjoy aperitivo and small bites.

It was our first time dining at The Essex. We will most definitely go back. The food was amazing. Flavor combinations that I would not have thought to put together worked well. The Beef Wellington was exceptional! It is a bit pricey, but worth every dollar. The restaurant is small, with lots of attention to details. Service was spot on. We highly recommend The Essex!

Classic ambiance in a former brush mill. Excellent service and outstanding food. We enjoyed and highly recommend the very generous portions of the swordfish, the salmon and the hanger steak. We'll certainly dine at the Brushmill on the Waterfall again.
