Best French Restaurants in Guilford

It had been a few years since our last visit to Union League, and we had heard rumors of renovations and new management. The food was as good as it always was, if not better. L'esgargots were creatively capped with puff pastry, the onion soup was rich and hot. Lamb chops - rib - were fabulous. The sea bream was fried to black on one side, and it was crispy and delicious. The vegetables served with it were perfectly soft and rich in flavor. The restaurant fortunately still has its hazelnut-chocolate mousse on the dessert menu. It is a slice of perfection, a must-taste dessert. We ordered wines suitable for the food but did not spend time studying the wine list. It was a lovely evening for a special occasion ($$$).

We met friends who were passing through on their way home from vacation whom we hadn't seen in a year. We arrived early but were seated promptly. A lot to catch up on, but the service was nicely paced: we were never hurried, but we never really waited to order or for service. Food was great. We had quite a range of things--salad, mussels, risotto, trout, steak, mushroom croque monsieur (or was it madame?)--and we left feeling we had eaten well. But the French bread is so good we might have been happy eating that all evening. I passed on desert only because no one else would indulge, but plan to go back for the chocolate mousse some day. We had cocktails and a few glasses of wine, all in about $75 a person before the tip. I thought it very reasonable for a restaurant of this quality. Highly recommended.

Great as usual and lemon drop martinis were better than ever!

Love this little local place for its eclectic style and innovative menu. We’ve enjoyed everything we’ve had here. White bean dip, burgers, beet salad highly recommend

Best restaurant in Southampton! Anthony Punnet and his team have knocked it out of the park. Great menus and all very delicious.
