Excellent food and service. The one caveat was that we ordered the tagliatelle special (with mushrooms and truffles) and found out when we got the bill that it cost $60 (despite a ravioli with mushroom and truffle entree on the menu costing only $29). Of course they don't tell you the cost of the specials when they describe them to you - seemed like they charged way more than it was worth and what it should cost relative to the rest of the menu. Left a bad taste in our mouths so to speak.
Delicious food - loved the specials! High energy yet romantic place. Service was good though a few mishaps I believe due to our server ending shift mid-meal. I look forward to returning.
Always a pleasure to celebrate life's events, big and small, at this restaurant. Food perfect, and they accommodate dietary restrictions so nicely.
The meal, service and ambiance were all excellent.
Great food and excellent service
Reunion of people who had not seen each other in over 40 years! Great food and never pushed us to turn table over!!!!
The food was awful!
Excellent as always
Fabulous! What took me so long to try this gem? Perfect on every level. Can’t wait to return.
my all-time favorite restaurant. The only tiramisu I will eat is here. The best ever....
I’ve been going to Da for 30 years. Many many times there. ALWAYS flawless service, and the food is perfect!
Really fantastic stable here in Chelsea/Village. The food is always excellent and the service is impeccable. The noise level really depends on the number of people there, thus the "moderate" noise level I gave was based on a Thursday evening (usually a busy restaurant evening). Expensive, but very much worth it, depending on the event.
The food was fantastic at this restaurant - but equally welcoming and wonderful was the service. Every aspect of our meal was executed well. The whole team made us feel welcome - even though our party size changed at the last minute. The waiter made excellent recommendations. We will make this a must-visit on our next trip back to NYC.
Went early so it was very quiet. Wait staff all lovely. The food was excellent. Will return
After all these years, still top notch. It ain’t cheap, but the food, service and environment are outstanding.
I love the service and the quality of the food is very good.
Remains a really wonderful place to share a meal with good friends or family. The food is a cut above you typical good NY Italian — inventively prepared fresh food. But mostly the service and ambiance are really wonderful: attentive but never rushed or obtrusive. A wonderful meal and evening every time.
Wonderful restaurant - great food and service. Expensive, but worth it.
I’m embarrassed as I picked this for a business dinner with clients of my husbands.
I won’t bore you with the details because all I have to say is
Mediocre and expensive.
Reunion among work colleagues
The food was just ok. The octopus salad was lackluster. Excellent service in that they honored a special request very delightfully. Panna cotta desert was excellent. Not a great value.
Da Umberto is a jewel of an Italian restaurant located in Chelsea. The restaurant is well laid out with elegant lighting that enhances the entire experience. The service is classic Continental, very attentive and personal. The crowd is well-heeled and don't be surprised to see a celebrity or two. The food is well-prepared and attractively presented. Fit for foodies. We dine there frequently.
The ambiance was very nice, the food was delicious with good size portions, the service was very good. The only issue I had was the price — over $100 per person.
As usual the food was terrific and service well paced
Always love coming back here - the food is amazing!
Excellent as always
Superve service friendly and prompt
The pasta and fish (orata) were delicious
If you are looking for first class italian this is it
we always have a great meal , food is great ( service excellent, the restaurant is very pretty and always busy , staff is accommodating and something for everyone pastas were great and we live the antipasti to share for the table , will definitely be back
Service was crisp and efficient. Food was excellent, as expected.
Lamb shank was completely overcooked and inedible as was the veal. Tiramisu was also wildly disappointing and it is usually good.
Also ordered a pasta sampler for our party and they just tossed down pasta on to our table. Service was off and rushed.
Felt they had lost a lot of their mojo.
Grilled calamari ,if it was grilled, was bland and I would say it tasted reheated.
I ordered swordfish and after awhile the waiter told me the swordfish didn't come in that day. This was Christmas Eve! How could the waiters not know the menu. I ordered balsamic glazed tuna that was absolutely tasteless. We waited a very long time for our food and we were there before 6pm. The service was also disappointing. Didn't ask for pepper...extra bread but no olive oil or butter. I'm so sorry to write this review. Da Umberto was once one of my faves.
Of the thousands of restaurants in NYC, this is my favorite for 4 years running. The service is equally amazing as the food, and the food is incredibly good.
Everything was delicious and the service was on point. We ordered a few things to share, including the burrata and short rib , and Everything was cooked perfectly . We will be back!
Excellent food, service and setting. What a treat! All of the specials were clearly explained, and included a variety of interesting choices.
We requested a quiet table and got what I think was the best table in the house—up front in a nook. I can't say enough about the quality of the food. Why is da Umberto not reviewed—NY Times, Eater, etc. On second thought, don't. I'd like to keep this to myself.
Service and food was exceptional!
Everything about Da Umberto is perfection-
the food, the staff, the service and the ambiance.
We have been coming here for years and it is always such a wonderful dining experience.
Great food, service and awesome espresso martinis!
Service was excellent. Wine selection very nice. I was disappointed in food; my dining companions were very satisfied. Pasta with shaved truffles was tasty, but pasta was warm, not hot, and overcooked. Whole, filleted fish special also not hot and a bit mushy. Accompanying veggies were overcooked medley. Veal Milanese special was a delight for the three who ordered it. It was better than the fish. Crispy mushroom app very nice. Personally, I would go back and order selection of apps as small plates dinner.
Da Umberto is simply wonderful. Elegant neighborhood gem. Everything -service, cuisine, and ambiance is sheer perfection. The specials sounded amazing(no prices mentioned)One of us ordered the Dover Sole.Surprised when the bill came. Dover Sole $68. Fresh Dover Sole garnished with a few vegetables. Come on guys...that’s outrageous.
Wonderful food and service. Too noisy!
