Not only did we arrive to be told that the air conditioning was out, on one of the warmest days of the year, we were compensated by being sat beneath one of the loudest and least affective fans thinkable. Despite it being close to empty, the staff took in excess of 5 minutes to address that the whole party of 5 had arrived and longer still to take drinks orders - drinks that were later dropped from the tray on their 5 metre journey from the bar. The waitress herself was very sweet and it was evident that she was new and aware of the issues in our servicing. The food was nice, but very much expensive - something that I had been forewarned about from having read such reviews. Just don't order the nachos, unless you want to be disappointed.

I met a few friends here for some drinks and a bite to. Was very impressed. I was expecting more "sloppy" mexican, but it actually turned out to be surprisingly refined. Great food, and nice atmosphere.

YUM...and i'm still thinking about the nachos. Mmm, if they had an older brother i'd marry them. Unexpectedly, the bar was really fun and we danced the night away with some new moustachioed friends. We'll be back. (service was pretty average but you can't have everything)

Ignoring the shabby décor, ( i suppose that's what you come to expect from most Shoreditch eateries) it was a phenomenal dining experience. Recommend the crab cakes and the chicken burritos for guaranteed food related pleasure!!

Quite possibly the best Mexican I've had. The menu was small, but the food was fantastic, proving the 'quality not quantity' theory - however, the portion sizes were substantial and where I've come out of other Mexicans feeling sick I'm so full, I felt very full but content. Food was fresh, drinks were tasty and staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The restaurant itself is cool and popular, but the booths give you a more private experience with whoever you are dining with.

Good for a semi boozy Fri night with 4 friends. Sit in a booth and enjoy people watching as you eat a pretty decent burrito that doesn't taste like every other burrito in London. We tried: Duck burrito (delicious, but rich - suggest ordering a different type with a buddy and half half of each). Pork and crackling (delicious) and Beef (delicious). Also to start we had the sweet potato croquettes. - the sauce with these is the mac daddy. just the right amount of spicy. The margarita (with a dash of apricot) was a solid match with the food. Service - good but not great. They forgot our second order of drinks. only other minor complaint is they put tortilla chips with pretty much everything - would be good to vary it up a bit.

Interesting range of fillings to the burritos and a side of tacos and guacamole that were excellent. There was also a very good range of drinks available. All in all a tasty and substantial meal.

They are riding the Shoreditch 'cool' wave, i wanted to go due to recent critiques in the London guides. Although the design of the menu looks fabulous, this is simply great PR /branding - the restaurant is lacking in substance and knowledge of Mexican cuisine. Expensive drinks and little option, not even a fully functional Cocktail bar. Even the plastic cutlery was a let down and finally, the portion size was a disappointment. The waiting staff were friendly and fun, although they aren't professional in serving, they make up for it in character and pleasantries. I was there with two friends, we had a good laugh, however it is definitely more about looking cool than providing quality. Go to Wahaca for a better dining experience and value.

I was looking forward to eating at at this restaurant but was instantly put off from the moment I walked in. The venue is a bit shabby and had quite a nasty smell in the air. Despite arriving on time for our reservation we were asked to wait '5-10' minutes for our table to be ready. In this time we were not offered a drink by the waitress and there was a queue at the bar (this restaurant is in a pub) so I was unable to get served. Once we were taken to our table things did not really improve. The waitress served us some cocktails however they were not particularly tasty, both had a massively overpowering taste of Tequila and you couldnt really taste much else. The food was 'ok' but you could get tastier burritos elsewhere!

I was really excited to try DBB after hearing such great things - but the service was, for the most part, lax and the burritos themselves were bland and lacked a kick. The name inspired real hope that there may be some tantalising of the tastebuds with spice, but there wasn't any to be found. Promised much, delivered only little. Won't be going back.

The food was good and different to other places serving mexican cuisine. The menu is small but makes it easy to choose. The service was ok, we were asked to leave our table after an hour due to some double booking mix up and did ruin the experience somewhat.

I googled pop-up restaurants and this came up. I've been to a lot of pop up restaurants in London and they are normally in quirky settings, with great food at reasonable prices. This place was none of them. It's was just a standard bar (which smelled a little funky) that had opened their kitchen. The menu was really limited - 4 flavours, either burrito or tacos, but they wouldn't let us mix and match the tacos. The food turned up on the table next to us and it was tiny. For £12. We ordered a margarita, but it came out in something marginally larger than shot glass and it was half filled with ice. It's was literally gone in one sip - and it cost £6.50. Needless to say we were far from impressed so cancelled our order and left.

After reading all the reviews and being a huge burrito fan, i was expecting good things. We had the duck burrito and the mushroom tacos. The duck burritos were way too salty with super mushy rice while the mushroom tacos were sloppy and somewhat tasteless. Really disappointing, especially at £12 a pop! The service is great, interesting sounding cocktails and music/atmosphere is good. I would say this is definitely a place for drinking rather than eating.

There's just a few booths for eating at this bar so it makes for a fun noisy experience. We loved our waiter who was fantastic and knew what we wanted before we did. The tequila cocktails could well be amongst the best in London. Although it feels pricey for Mexican food, they don't skimp on good quality ingredients and there was a very generous meat allowance. But- don't go here for an authentic burrito/mexican experience. Personally, I think as soon as you put lettuce in a burrito it becomes a wrap, so for me it was more like D**th to Burrito. I'd definitely go again, but I'd just have cocktails.

At £12 the burrito's are the higher side of things but very tasty. I had the lamb chimichurri one and it was delicious with homemade nachos and guacamole. I went on a date and we didn't realise that we had to share a booth with another two people. It was cramped to say the least! Having said that, funky atmosphere and friendly staff but the place (within catch bar) is more suited to a rowdy friday night in a dingy bar vibe rather than a chilled dinner.

London is a tricky place to find decent Mexican food, but DeathByBurrito adds a quirky new option to the scene. The burritos were top notch. Admittedly they are rather dear for a burrito, but as a treat it's well worth trying out. Also watch out for the tequila cocktails - yummy but lethal!

Upon entering the restaurant, we were not acknowledged by any of the staff members despite them having seen us and it not being particularly busy. We ordered the pork cheek and crackling burrito, the duck burrito and the crab cakes which took quite a while to arrive considering the food wasn't hot. The burritos were packed full of meat but there was hardly any crackling in the pork burrito and, when having had burritos elsewhere that not only had lots of meat but rice and beans too, it felt like it was more of a huge wrap instead of a burrito. My main caveat would be the price though: the burritos were £12 each and three small crab cakes were £6 which is definitely overpriced.

Made reservations on a Monday night with a friend. The waitress was inattentive throughout the whole meal. On paper, the Cuervo-inspired cocktails sounded amazing. We got the horchata and sangrita, found the cheap tequila taste overwhelming. Food portions are large for a pop-up restaurant, and each entree comes with (oily) blue corn chips and watered-down guac--but it works if you're looking to satisfy Mexican cravings. I had the duck tacos, which were tender and flavorful. My friend ordered the fish burrito, which she described as tasting like "an old fish stick." Overall, it was reasonable for Mexican food this side of the Atlantic, but overpriced for the service and quality.

If you have never had a burrito before, you may very well be entitled to say 'This is the best burrito I've ever had!'....otherwise you may find the meal disappointing. It took more than 40 minutes to get our meal and when the food arrived it lacked taste and yet was borderline revolting. Shame because we had read some reviews about the place and it looked promising. Not my cup of tea but you may enjoy. The bar was pretty cool so would go back for a drink but not the food.

We ordered cocktails which arrived in thimbles. The 2 different cocktails were equally undrinkable. For £6.50 you get a tiny glass with ice and a generous half of an entire lime and then somehow squeezed on top of this a shot of tequila and a tiny amount of juices. When I pay £12 for a Burrito I expect it to be a very very delicious Burrito. It was a nice Burrito, but I could have a nicer burrito in Benitos Hat or Chipotle. Perhaps its meant to be about the experience but there wasn't one. It seemed...flat. I wouldn't recommend it to a friend and I wouldn't return. It was too expensive and not as delicious as the prices seem to indicate. I hope that the sudden increase in pop-ups won’t saturate us with people who can’t quite be a*sed

Freezing cold and with no ambiance this restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. The service was lacklustre and half-hearted with the waitress knowing virtually nothing about the menu, the food took ages to come and was seriously over priced, not to mention tasting pretty odd. A burrito needs more in it than meat and lettuce, else it is just a meat wrap! The gucamole on the (overcooked) tortilla chips is clearly not home-made and that along with the sour cream is very meanly served. When I think of the excellent burritos that can be found around London for half the price of these, it's a bit of an insult. We ate half and left the rest, something which I would normally never do. This says it all I think.

Say goodbye to your wallet. While the pig cheek burrito and duck breast tacos were delicious, the serving size for £12.50 was atrocious. A meagre serving of corn chips accompanied the meal, it really wasn't value for money and we left feeling hungry and disappointed. There are tastier burrito venues out there for a lot cheaper with more atmosphere. The bar itself had no mexican themes and it was tasty but not worth the money.

Overall a fun night had here. The food wa tasty without being spectacular, probably a bit over priced. Burrito at £12 and sides at £5 should have been more like 10 & 5. My dining companion and I enjoyed the atmosphere but would have liked the dj to manged volume control as was hard to continue our conversation once she started. Good music though. Glad we tried it, won't rush back unless craving mexica... only bacause there are many more enticing option to try in east London.

This is set in the heart of hipster-ville Shoreditch and I was expecting funky but good dining. The burrito options do sound amazing and I'll be honest the blue corn chips are fantastic. However, the burrito is more of a wrap - it's not particularly big and it's really just a small salad wrap for £12. Not really anything burrito-like about it. It did come with guacamole however it wasn't fresh - not great at a burrito joint.

So nice to find a Shoreditch haunt that isn't just full of 20-year-old kook kids out to get sloshed. Catch bar and its innards - aka De@th By Burrito - is compact, chilled out and has a hip vibe without trying too hard. Staff are really friendly & attentive - although we had to wait a while for our food - & there is a unique range of cocktails to wet your taste buds before the food arrives. The food was really quite glorious and of larger tapas size. a) you don't get messy while eating it (especially handy for the ladies) - b) you can choose starter & mains without feeling greedy - c) the prices are very reasonable for the amount of food, and especially the amount of taste. The courgette flowers and beef tacos a must.
