Drake Devonshire Inn
Everything was fabulous. I was happily surprised by the spectacular view. Being celiac, I was also thrilled to see that I had so many gluten free choices that were delicious ,including the strawberry shortcake. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. I look forward to returning
Great dining experience as usual. Jay’s greeting and service was on point. Rachel’s service was great despite a very busy evening. We had a great table with the view of the lake.
Thank you Drake Devonshire and happy Thanksgiving!
The food and service were terrible. We did not eat until over an hour after ordering. Tons of other parties were served before us that got there after us. I think the waitress forgot to enter our order. She was extremely unhelpful and inattentive. When we finally got our food the manager brought it over and dropped one of the plates on the table causing a mess. The food was expensive and subpar at best. We ordered quinoa wraps that sounded delicious. It was just bland quinoa on lettuce wraps which cost $22! We asked for our bill as soon as the plates came and of course, the waitress forgot that too. The manager comp’ed us one of the plates at least. I would literally never go back unless it was only to take in the view, which is nice.
Très très beau restaurant, avec un emplacement de choix, mais nos repas étaient vraiment décevants.
The Drake was great when it first opened. Food has declined. We had burger and veggie burger + fries. Average at best. What happened to the great fries with crispy rosemary bits? Could have dined at Harveys for a fraction of the price. Plus restaurant is starting to show wear and tear. (Women's middle bathroom stall was not even working, and delay to be seated. Ugh!) Lot more venues in PEC to choose from now. Won't be returning.
Incredible! What a beautiful spot, we went for dinner and as it's fall it was dark by the time we arrived so we were unable to take in the view. The food was incredible and they had a great selection of wines. Really enjoyed ourselves. Would highly recommend it to everyone!
It started off well, as they were aware it was a special occasion and brought us two glasses of bubbly on the house. The server was very attentive and polite! When we ordered our food, my wife’s meal had three peppers that were extremely hot and that is no exaggeration as I am from Mexico and we eat hot peppers regularly. There was no warning either on the menu or from the server that those peppers were nearly not edible. My wife ate one of the 3 peppers whole at the beginning of her meal, and unfortunately it ruined the rest the meal. Otherwise the food would have been great, my steak was cooked perfectly to what was asked for.
Maybe for next time, have some sort of warning about those peppers that cake with the shrimp and grits.
Atmosphere and decor were great!
Outstanding meal with fantastic service. Had a fabulous dinner.
Honestly. It wasn’t very comfortable. The view was nice. The drinks were fine. Ceased and a beer. But my burger was pretty boring and Way over Cooked. My fries weren’t salted either which isn’t great. My wife’s meal was alright but bland. It’s like someone forgot to order the salt for the kitchen. All in all we had a good time. Service was good and prompt and the view is great. We will likely only go back with more friends for munchies and drinks.
Always a great time and service was great by Max!
Fantastique!! Délicieux!! L'ambiance est chaleureuse. Une vue superbe sur le lac Ontario.
Amazing food and atmosphere! Will definitely plan to come back soon.
Amazing food and service. Was seated outside by the water and listen to the waves was like having our own private oasis.
Stunning atmosphere, delicious food, fantastic service. Highly recommend!
We love to visit the Drake whenever we find ourselves in PEC! A must-visit for brunch!
Amazing atmosphere, exceptional service.
We had a great time, with good food and had their best table for my 50th birthday. A corner table with a view of the room and the lake. Unfortunately, the AC vent was at our feet so I had to wrap my jacket around my feet to block the cold air. Our waiter was a really nice, energetic, engaging, young man, and he made every effort to accommodate my food restrictions which was very much appreciated. The steak tartar, pickerel and lamb dishes were all yummy as was the sour cherry pie my husband had. I got a wonderfully arranged bowl of fresh fruit as a thoughtful solution to no dairy free/gluten free deserts. There were some little mix ups with the food and wine which was not an issue but not really what you expect in a place like this. These were all minor and didn’t ruin the evening or the experience.
We look forward to another visit and would put this on our recommendation list for others visiting PEC.
Second time eating at the Drake and was as good as I remembered. Hope to go again next time I'm in the area
The Drake Devonshire patio is a beautiful escape. Very relaxing and enjoyable. A great place to enjoy on a sunny day
The food was beautifully presented and delicious.
Food was not worth the price, however you are paying for the setting on the water. We had the Drake breakfast and the bacon was under cooked and so was the sausage toast was burnt as well. Significantly disappointing compared to all the hype we had heard about the Drake.
We went here for our first wedding anniversary and were so pleased with the beautiful view, overall ambience of the restaurant and the service was outstanding. The only element we had some difficultly with was the location of parking as the closest Green P was quite a long walk away. Overall, highly recommend the restaurant as well as the shrimp and grits. Absolutely delicious!!
We ordered off the brunch menu—Eggs Benedict (2 orders) and burgers (3). The eggs must have been waiting for the burgers because while the flavour was good both orders of eggs were cold. We didn’t say anything because we wanted to all eat at the same time.
The tables were quite crowded together and the restaurant was full, so unfortunately all traffic (guests and servers) kept bumping into one of our chairs.
Expected a more positive experience for the price. Drake Devonshire has a great reputation, so we will go back to give it a second chance. Fingers crossed!
Even though the restaurant was fully packed for brunch (make reservations in advance!), we never felt rushed. Great food, great service, great views! We will be back again.
Beautiful setting. Service was very slow and it was not overly busy. Took over 30 minutes to get our lattes which came to us cold. Great venue but quite expensive and they need to work on their service levels
Overall great restaurant and ambiance. Love that they pay special attention to special occasions and make your dining experience personal. Unfortunately, only thing lacking was the food. I raved to family members about the food being excellent as all my past experiences with the food were amazing. This time though, my carrots were really burned and there was a long black curly hair in my husband’s salad as soon as it was served to him(which I saw and removed quickly before my husband had a chance to as it would have turned him right off from eating anything else that night). We didn’t have a chance to tell our server as he never came to ask how our meal was due to being a busy night. There honestly was no opportunity to tell the waiter. I’m really hoping the food experience improves or we may have to find another place for special occasions.
The beautiful beach front atmosphere combined with the delicious food makes the Drake Devonshire Inn my favourite place to eat in all of Prince Edward County!
Underwhelming dining experience all around.
If you like a New York atmosphere but don't want the added expense of air fare and currency exchange, try the Drake in Wellington. A very chic atmosphere, attentive staff with incredible water views and a down home environment are features of this fabulous place. Wine country just can't be beat if you want a truly relaxing escape from the City. Don't let the room prices fool you...it is worth the few extra dollars.
We lucked in to half-price wine night, and we served by a most excellent sommellier who was both personable and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed the appetizer, as well as the fresh an delicious oysters, the mains were a bit uneven however. Too many grits with the shrimp and grits, and the shrimp were a bit overwhelmed by the greens -the presentation looked like it was from a completely different kitchen ; the pickerel was more successful and the dessert was good. As the evening went on, the noise level increased, but if you go early enough you are treated to excellent service and a lovely view.
Food took a long time to be served. Waiter unattentive. Burger was burnt on one side. Fish was not fresh.
I went to The Drake with my brother who was visiting The County and my mother who just turned 100. We had a lovely lunch in a terrific setting. At my mother’s age it is difficult to get to the beach, so this was the next best thing.
The food was good. Nothing outstanding or exceptional, but I wasn’t looking for anything too exotic for my mother. We had fish and chips and the Rueben sandwich . Everything was well prepared.
The noise was not too bad. We were able to have a conversation with my mother who is quite hard of hearing.
Accessible parking was very handy - probably the best in town.
A bit pricy, but a place to keep in mind the next time I want to do something with my mother
Don’t usually give breathless reviews, but great location, great food, caring service, and a server who was knowledgeable about PEC wines, but went back to chef for more info and recommended a local Pinot (Keint-he Portage 2016) made our 29th anniversary special. We came just after the Labour Day long weekend so much of the County was closing down, but the Drake was busy. Right on the Lake, so we sat outside (under the roof was sheltered from the wind and they actually offered blankets to any who were chilly). Will return next time we’re in Prince Edward County.
Eating outside on the patio along the beach was amazing. And happy hour menu (ends at 6pm) was a nice surprise.
We went to the Drake a few times this weekend--for dinner on Friday night and brunch on Saturday morning. The service on Friday night was mediocre. Unfortunately, our server didn't seem like he wanted to be working or serving us, so he wasn't very attentive to our table. He didn't tell us about Happy Hour so we missed out on it and only realized after having ordered our dishes and drinks (another server mentioned it to us so we grabbed a glass of wine). Every other server we interacted with on that evening was fantastic. Our brunch service on Saturday morning was exceptional and we were really happy with the service. We will definitely be back! :)
Terrible cut of steak. Odd Caesar salad. Long wait for food. Tables cramped, too close together. Overpriced.
We booked dinner at the restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. It was a complete disappointment. In my booking I asked to be seated looking out to the water. We were given a corner table looking inwards so only one of us had a side view of the beautiful shore. Service was unacceptable. I had to ask two people for a couple of wedges of lemon for my drink but little did I know that it was only the beginning of our troubles. After we finished appetizers the waiter asked if we knew what we wanted to order for the main course. (We had ordered all our food in the very beginning; even discussed the side dishes & meat temperature). We had to wait at a completely bare table for 45-50 minutes for our steak. No compensation, apology from the manager or anything on the House was offered to us. What a celebration 😢
Location is amazing with the breeze from the lake and the sound of the waves. We enjoyed our dinner even though service was very slow...didn’t get our bread till the end of our stater and dinner and my husbands coffee didn’t come till after we almost finished dessert. Still a great experience
View was really nice but really that was the only thing that stood out. The pork chop was too salty and service was really lackluster. We also did not get our anniversary dessert. The pasta portion size was also quite poor. Overall 2/5 (review by one of Toronto's top food critics @tofoodblogger)
We've been to the Drake Devonshire many times, but this was the first time we've visited with our 2.5 year old son who has multiple food allergies. Alexandra, the head chef, was amazingly supportive and guided us through the menu and made sure we could dine safely without the anxiety we'd usually feel in restaurants. It was emotional to saw the least, to be able to dine out with our son, something most take for granted. Can't say enough good things! Thank you soooooo much!
