Duane's Prime Steaks & Seafood Restaurant
The warm amber tones, sophisticated décor and art compliment the steak & seafood restaurant's central masterpiece, the Charge Up San Juan Hill painting.
This significant painting of Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders measures almost eight feet tall by six feet wide and is one of the largest paintings located at The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa.
The hotel and restaurant are extremely beautiful and architecturally eye catching from every angle and perspective. The staff was attentive, cheerful and on point. Unfortunately the dinner itself was quite substandard and extremely overpriced. We were underwhelmed with the lack of richness of flavors and preparation of the foods. Overall presentation was excellent but quite literally had problems swallowing down one of the main seafood dishes.
We would highly recommend the Mission itself and other restaurants in the hotel. They were excellent for the experience, flavor and value.
Highly recommend the chef’s tasting menu—only available on Saturday and Sundays. High quality ingredients and PERFECTLY cooked meat. The sauces accompanying each dish were delicious! Definitely worth the money. Wait staff was extremely professional and competent!
Relaxing meal after receiving some really bad news
While the ambience of the restaurant is great and the staff is quite good, that is all I have to say about this venue. There are other similar restaurants that are much more worth the price.
We went for my mother’s 85th birthday and the personalised menu with her name and a birthday message was fantastic. The personalised dessert was wonderful as well. The excellent food and attentive service rounded out a delightful evening. The live music from the adjacent Sushi Bar restaurant was unexpected though. It was a bit loud for us as we were sitting close to the entrance. But that was the only thing that we found less than stellar. Thank you to the chef and servers for a lovely evening.
My boyfriend and I had a great time the customer service was wonderful. The food was great! We celebrated our 5th anniversary with a great time although we didn't get a desert surprise with a candle that says happy anniversary we were kinda disappointed in that but overall we had a good time.
We’ve been here before and had excellent service. This time, the waitress was ok at first, then just seemed to lose interest in us. Sad part is we were right next to the kitchen entrance and she ignored us. Food is great. However, For the prices charged, service needs to be near flawless. We’ll think long and hard before returning.
Slightly overpriced for what you get. Had a New York Pepper steak, wanted medium got rare. Tough for prime beef. Only put pepper sauce on half the meat. Some meals are probably better as the last time I was there I got a filet and it was good. I would say about $80 plus for a 3 course meal is a little expensive. Also they did not have prime rib on the menu. I would say if you are a big spender and want to impress someone that is the place to go.
GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE. YOU MUST GO AND DINE THERE
Good food and service
We happened to be traveling through the Riverside area, and when we do so we usually stay at the Mission Inn and have a meal at Duane’s. We were not disappointed. The food selections and service were outstanding as usual.
The food was fantastic, the tableside caesar was the best I have ever had. But the best thing was the service. We were celebrating my daughters birthday and her receiving her masters and your restaurant made it a wonderful and memorable experience. Thank you all so much!
Excellent seevice, wonderful place to have a celebration dinner...we went as a family for my husbands birthday and it was lovely
We had a nice evening for a larger group of family (8 people). I tend to grade ‘hard’, but for a restaurant in this price range I don’t think you get five stars unless it was excellent in the category. Others in our party told me that the experience on this night was not representative of other visits the had, but I am reviewing based on the experience I had.
The server did bring some very nice touches to try to make the experience special for the guest of honor and I appreciated that extra effort. However, the service throughout the evening was quite slow and intermittent, with some order errors that took longer than reasonable to correct - it just seemed disorganized. Incorrect dressing on a simple garden salad took a full 5 minutes to exchange while the party sat waiting. The meals were tasty but came in waves rather than all at once, and were sort of cold by the time they arrived at the table. We ordered a bottle of wine for some of the party to share, but after the first glass, no one returned to refill the glasses so I resorted to self-pouring. That would not normally bother me but at a high-end restaurant in this price range I expected commensurate service. We arrived on time for a 6:30 reservation and it was almost 9:30 when we left. Some may enjoy a long, leisurely dinner, but I thought this was uncomfortably slow.
The food was good, but I would say it didn’t really justify the price. The atmosphere at the Mission Inn is exceptional and contributes to the price, but the food should live up to the billing as well. The salads were OK but not particularly special. The steaks were very flavorful and tender and cooked to the correct temperature, although as I said, almost cold by the time we were served.
We were dining on a Wednesday and the restaurant was not especially busy, so I don’t think a party of 8 should have reduced our expectations.
We love going to Duane’s for our special occasions as well as a nice night out. The service was impeccable as always and the food was amazing with once exception. They recently changed the macaroni and cheese recipe and it was not good. It definitely was a downer on a day when we were celebrating our anniversary. We always look forward to the sides they offer and were extremely disappointed when tasting the macaroni. Other than that, the French onion soup, rib eye steaks, cream corn, and chocolate soufflé were delicious! Please go back to the old recipe!!
Wonderful meal with family in a fantastic setting.
Anniversary. Staff were attentive. Nice jazz music.
Wonderful restaurant.. great food
From the time I made the reservation for the hotel I made the reservation to dine at Duane's, celebrating my birthday. I was hosting the dinner for friends. We had recently eaten at Maestors, Malibu, so we all were use to fine dining. When the ribeye steaks arrived , we ordered med rare more to the rare side, they looked like they had been sitting for hours under a heat lamp, dried, black, and not juicy. The texture of the meat was not like any other ribeye I have had before, it was more muscular. One was so rare on one side he could not eat it. When you cut into a nice ribeye you expect some juice, these had none! The thickness was disappointing.
The service was the best I have ever seen, the desert was wonderful, the mashed potatoes were so so, the asparagus was good, not great, here again looked like it had been cooked for sometime.
You have a beautiful restaurant with wonderful staff, but the kitchen let you down on our visit.
41 yr anniversary and they treated so well...The Best Experience!
It's impossible not to give Duane's a high rating. There is literally no place in Riverside, or anywhere near it that can offer the spectacular ambiance of the Mission Inn Hotel, elegant dining, and exemplary service. It's not inexpensive, but honestly there a lot of places charging this much for NOTHING close to what Duane's has to offer. There are a lot of dining choices inside the Mission Inn, and all around downtown Riverside - this one had a dress code and fine dining aura that caters to those who want a quiet, adult, upscale experience. As a result we had a pleasant experience, suited for a romantic, distraction free Anniversary evening out. You know exactly what I'm saying. They even printed our names on the menus and allowed us to keep them - just a little nice touch like that is so lovely.
It's also nice after dinner to have the Mission Inn and downtown area to walk around, or enjoy a drink in the Presidential bar, or Tequila bar. Or you can head toward main street and have a Casey's cupcake, or a nice whiskey at Prohibition, or let loose at Lake Alice across the street. It's just fun, and you can make an evening of it. Parking is not bad for a downtown area - plenty of garages nearby, and Duane's will validate. Or if you don't want to walk among the colorful characters of downtown Riverside, use the valet.
I'm all about Duane's, and you're going to love it! Make a reservation, and enjoy!
Our waiter was on point. Great job. The Chef came to our table to check on us a couple times. Outstanding. Thank you for very memorable evening.
We were celebrating our anniversary and they made it extra special. Duane’s made a special menu for us and accommodated my allergies. The food was amazing and the service was wonderful.
Loved it, food was great, service was great. Will go back again.
Great our guest loved the food and the invirerment
Overall the food was very good and the atmosphere was very nice. However, the service was slow and it took almost 20 minutes to get our check after we had asked for the bill.
It was my families first time eating there and 3/4 of us ordered steak. My brothers steak was so salty he couldn't finish it. I ordered my steak well done and It came back medium rare. You would think because everything is so expensive, it would be tasty and everything was correct. Disappointed since it was our first visit.
Great food, wine, and service!
very good service. very good food the staff seem knowlegable on selections
Dinner was excellent. Service superb! ALL the staff friendly, efficient and wonderful
Great food - everything had excellent flavor. Wait staff was gracious and welcoming.
Everything we ordered at Duane's was excellently prepared and presented, and the service was gracious and attentive, all within a beautiful, refined "old school steakhouse" setting.
My son's steak was over cooked. He didn't want to send it back. Half of the steak was med-rare the other half was med-well. He asked for med-rare. We still love the restaurant and will go back.
We had dinner here to celebrate our anniversary. It was perfect! The food was fantastic! The service and ambience were outstanding!
Understanding this is a great place to eat yet the cost could be more for the quantity of food.
Waitress did not know the difference between mussells and I ysters
Food was outstanding as usual but the the live music that night was terrible. For a restaurant of this caliber they shouldn’t have live music that doesn’t fit the fine dining experience. Very disappointed in that part. Could barely hear my wife talk to me and the waitress had to lean in to tell us the specials due to the obnoxious music being sung outside the restaurant.
Food was great, service was excellent, ambiance was very cool!
We ordered a garden salad (nicely presented), lobster bisque (very good), New York strip steaks (perfectly cooked medium and tender. However, her’s had a slight freezer burn taste.), Mac and cheese ( made with various cheeses including munster. Very creamy. He liked, she sampled and did not like)and a baked potato (Hard to mess up) Dessert was cheese cake (Nothing special and not enough whipped cream!). Final verdict: Good service, but over-priced. Ambiance of the restaurant is dark with large plants placed near tables for separation. It just felt worn. Yes, we understand the building is old and a historic landmark. We prefer a more open feel. It wasn’t a huge deal, but for that kind is money, it matters to us. Glad we tried, but won’t return.
