This was our second visit to the Cellar Door having previously had a Sunday lunch there. The menu was interesting and there were several specials on offer also. It’s a very friendly place. Unfortunately, there was a mix-up in the kitchen and after a long wait, our main courses arrived before our starters so we chose to drop the starters. From my point of view that was no bad thing as my main course of shin of venison was huge and I was aiming to reach the puddings and especially the chocolate indulgence with at least some room left. My first visit, but I shall be back next time in the area (200 miles from home). The food was imaginative, and beautifully cooked. Service was friendly, and attentive but not intrusive. My rating of "only" 4 stars for ambience is because we ate on Monday lunchtime when the restaurant was nearly empty, so difficult to assess. The rating for value probably reflects the fact that we chose almost the most expensive items from the a la carte menu, and that I live in an area where prices are abnormally low. My foodie friends from the south of England would think it a bargain. More

Thank you everyone for making this special occasion very special! Food excellent and the staff went that extra mile to cater for two younger members of our party who have yet to develop a taste for fine dinning . They will I am sure! More

Our menu takes the best of the centuries old tradition of North Indian cooking, the experience and flair of our chefs is such as to make it a veritable art form, major or minor — depending on whether you are a gourmet or not! We are often asked why people living in a hot climate should eat curry at all? "Doesn't it make you feel hotter?". A moment's reflection will however, provide the answer - the eating of spicy food promotes perspiration which is the first step towards regaining your sense of well-being in a hot climate. Curry is equally effective in a cold and damp climate. Like the wearing of silk; curry is 'cool in the summer, but warm in the winter'. The ingredients we use are the finest available, fresh spices are prepared and ground in our kitchen just before they are used, thus retaining the maximum flavour. The best grades of Basmati and Patna Rice go into our Pilaus and Biryanis, the meat is always lean and tender — and we source the best fresh vegetablesMore
