This is creative cuisine prepared poorly. The cod that my partner had was not cooked through. Definitely not a way to serve this type of fish. Parts of my dinner were cold. We had a show to catch of course, so we really didn’t want to send anything back. The cocktails were poorly mixed and watered from sitting too long, especially ones that were spirit heavy. The service was very slow to start. We waited several minutes at the table before a menu was even brought to us. There is no host stand at the entrance and myself and several other diners after us seemed confused with the DJ booth/table sitting in that location to the extent that we initially spoke to her upon entering. Still not sure why they need a live DJ for this space. I hope that this was an “off” night. Location and value were good.
Food, service, ambience was great! We enjoyed everything. Would come back.
It was okay. Food was decent. Place can use some light and AC. Maybe better for drinks than brunch.
usually good but was a little loud due to two parties. The waitress took our half drink before we had a chance and when mentioned to the person taking our bill, no acknowledgement that they took a half full drink or an apology.
Probably won't come back for the food.
We had a larger group and the East Thirty-Six staff did an amazing job on the service, keeping the pace of the meal, and seating us in an area that was best for our party. The cocktails were great too! Would visit again.
Food was not fresh. Service was great................sfffgg
It was great. Service was fantastic, drinks were delicious as were the apps. The meal was nice, although the menu was a little limited. Overall it was a positive evening out
Was disappointed in decor, and the sloppiness of uniform (really, untied bow ties slung around necks with button up shirts undone..?) Server questioned me “just” ordering a juice, when the rest of my party ordered alcohol..even though I’m visibly pregnant. Quite off putting. We ordered the kimchi fries to nibble and they were delicious, unfortunately when our mains arrived the server removed the fries from the table even though they were maybe half consumed. I ordered the salmon and the fish was cooked nicely, although the shrimp were very overdone and my side tasted of only butter. My mother ordered the risotto and it was like a tomato soup in consistency and flavour, one of the saddest most inauthentic risottos I’ve ever seen and tasted. My fiancé ordered the beef cheek and I thought it was very tasty and well cooked, however the side of pearl couscous was very floral and when eaten separately wasn’t palatable. All in all service was just okay. Menu was just okay and ambience was lacking. I wouldn’t return for food. Does seem an alright place to grab a few cocktails and an app... our app was great and my mother and husband both loved their cocktails.
As always, the food and experience at East Thirty-six was amazing!
Service is great, the employees really take care of you and are incredibly helpful. The food and drinks were also excellent.
We had a large group there, and it was a truly positive experience.
Not the best place to take advantage of Buck-A-Shuck specials. There was a 12 oyster limit per per person but ultimately this was probably a good thing since the Oyster quality was poor with no meat. The were also served at room temp as opposed to slightly chilled and didn’t come with sauces/dressings. Also, they loaded one of the oysters with all the horseradish making it inedible. I’d recommend a different place for those looking for Oyster specials.
The wine was great and it was the best Duck Confit I've had in a long time!!!
Really enjoyed the food and staff. The only thing that started off our experience a little rough was that our reservation was made for 9pm and yet the kitchen closed at 9. Seeing as we wanted to try this out for the summer luscious menu, I think that would have been nice to know when booking the reservation. Now the staff was kind enough to keep the kitchen open, however we were very rushed through our whole date night.
Went here for Summerlicious, food was good/average but the service was quite lackluster. We were there after peak lunch hour, only 3 tables with seated customers but the server did not bother to refill our water or check on us expect to serve the food and at the end for the bill. When asked about their menu, the server also made zero attempt to give a proper description of the dish. There were quite a few flies in the restaurant, very off-putting. Overall not a great experience and very unlikely to come back or recommend others.
I came to this restaurant because it offered a set menu for the Summerlicious event that sounded unique, and I'm happy to say that East Thirty-Six did not disappoint! Not only did I receive three courses with deliciously distinct flavors, the staff gave an overly energetic and personal conversation with myself and other patrons. My only regret is that I'm not from Toronto to become a happy regular here.
Dessert is exceptional delicious. Its Volka coffee too is a must try.
Appetizer and main course in general ok, acceptable for its value.
Great place to meet before or after theatre/shopping, or if like us you're catching a Go train out of the city.
To me this was a ‘pretend to be nice’ kind of a place. The food was okay, but it didn’t smell great in the restaurant (kind of like sticky alcohol), the plates were dirty, it look kind of run down and we were sitting next to a cold room that staff continued to go in and out of (why not sit us somewhere else when the restaurant is next to empty). Not impressed!
Philip is the best, not our first time there and will definitely come back!!!
Food and service are always first rate at East Thirty Six. The kimchi fries are addictive, the cocktails are creative and the atmosphere is laid back. Not to be missed if you are in the St. Lawrence or financial district.
Food was good and the space was cool. But the service wasn’t that great. Only offered to get some drinks once and we were there for 2 hours.
We were recommended by some friends to check this place out and it was worth it.
Casual/trendy small restaurant. We had the bone marrow and it was superb - would have loved a shot of liquor to wrap it up as I've had that at other restaurants, but I can't complain because it was very tasty.
There was a group of women celebrating a birthday and given how small the space was, I thought they would be too loud or service would falter - they weren't and the service continued to be excellent. So I like this place and will return again.
Love the local place.
Love the music tonight.
Keep it up..
Great ambience and service. Food is pretty good and full of flavor.
Great atmosphere and very tasty food! Service was pleasant and it was a great brunch spot to spend Mother’s Day.
We had our wedding here 4 years ago and have returned every year for our anniversary. We chose to have brunch here this Mother's Day and it was also just as outstanding as our previous celebratory dinners and wedding day. Congrats to the East Thirty-Six team for keeping the great vibe, service, food and especially top-notch beverages as current and delicious as they were when they opened 5+ years ago. Cheers!
Nice restaurant. Good ambience. Great food. Decent service. Would highly recommend this place.
I've been to East Thirty-Six before and I like it a lot. It's a little bit scruffy in some ways but the food is fantastic and the service is great. I had the best omelette I've probably ever had. The drinks menu is incredibly comprehensive!
Always an amazing experience - one of my favourite restaurants in town!
I'd definitely go back (probably regularly); good food, good value, nice and attentive waiters, wonderful location for the theatre. Perfect.
Chicken dish was very dry. I think it doesn’t measure up to it’s cost. Portion size was also not big, I came home hungry. I ordered one drink and it was way to sour.
Very nice little spot on Wellington. The service was a bit slow to start however the server was very friendly and attentive through the meal. It turned out to be 'buck a shuck' so that was a nice way to start the meal. We both had the short rib and it was delicious. Also had the roasted cauliflower as a starter which was delicious. Overall good value, good food and nice ambiance. (it was Monday so very quiet!)
Friday evening early supper and the restaurant was pretty busy. I had the prix fixe & my wife had the burger. Appetizers were good with generous portions. The atmosphere was fairly noisy with a DJ & lots of chatter. Prices were towards the higher end ($20 for the burger). The burger was well cooked, the fries were very tasty. The boneless short ribs were also tasty with a reasonable size portion. Service was quite good. Desserts were also very tasty & fairly small servings. While the food & service were above average, I probably wouldn't go back again simply because the vibe and atmosphere was a little too bustling for a relaxing meal.
It was a pleasant surprise never having been there before. The chicken with mushrooms and cabbage was outstanding. My friend had a chocolate martini - wonderful!
Been for brunch and dinner. Love this place. Great spot that is great for locals and those visiting Toronto.
Loved everything just too noisy for my own preference
This place never disappoints! Superb food (and a very creative) and great and super friendly service. A true gem in the Downtown core.
The food was poor and overpriced. When we walked in on Saturday evening, the place was near empty. Drinks were not good and I have nothing good to say about the place.
Eggs benny and waffles and fried chicken were great. Restaurant was really cold (temp) and not very busy. Expected a bigger crowd and more lively vibe for Sunday brunch. Still managed to spend 5 hours there drinking $5 mimosas and caesars!
Was super happy with the service and food! I'd heard good things about this venue and was not disappointed! It got a bit loud as the evening went on, but, it's a popular spot so it's to be expected. Looking forward to checking it out again!
