Lovely food and we were spoilt for choice. Next time I must have a desert as they looked amazing.
Just fabulous. The best tapas in Manchester and the competition is strong! Great friendly down to earth team. Strongly recommend the pigs cheeks especially if you love black pudding! Great value for money on the food. Would love to go back
Absolutely love this restaurant.. food and service amazing as always, you need to book in advance though.
Fantastic cocktails, service and of course the food. Can't wait to return.
I had read reviews about this restaurant and noted that it seemed highly rated, appearing in the top ten Manchester restaurants on several sites. My expectations were high. I had previously enjoyed a bottle of wine with meat and cheese in the bar area. I was slightly disappointed by the food in the restaurant. I have had better tapas in Manchester for a lot less money. I had been planning to take a group of friends here to celebrate my birthday in June, but have now decided to try somewhere else.
Fantastic tapas, great venue, friendly staff - had a brilliant meal, will be back.
Amazing food amazing wine..want to go back as soon as possible
We were very much looking forward to eating here and booked well in advance due to the other reviews. We were very disappointed as the food was below standard. Iberico ham which was more like very fatty parma ham - Not good and not worth the money! Sardines were in a strange Indian style pesto which did not compliment the fish at all. The Spanish tortilla was truly awful. The olives were the only lovely part of the meal - Oh and the wine. So our suggestion would be to go and sit at the bar with a bottle of wine and some olives!
Amazing!!!! Nothing elseto add
Recently visited for my husbands 50th birthday celebrations with 2 close friends.
From the reception to the end, everything, apart from the torrential rain, was perfect.
excellent service, food and atmosphere but a bit pricey.
Amazing as per usual.
I love this place☺☺☺☺
I can not fault the service and we were very excited about the complementary birthday desserts.Such a kind touch.
Food was excellent but compared with previous visits I was disappointed re. where we were seated in cramped and not very comfortable seating on the third floor. I had booked several weeks in advance so had anticipated a good table on the 2nd floor - which is what we have always had on previous occasions. It was difficult to read the menu and the ambiance was not as good - it is usually excellent
Great food, cannot fault the quality of the dishes, they were really authentic and tasty. Lamb skewers, caramelised cauliflower and Serrano ham were 3 of our favourites.
2 small drawbacks, our table on the first floor was next to the door and was quite draughty, especially as the restaurant got busy. Also we were told as it was tapas that the dishes would come when they were ready. Totally understand that but when it takes an additional 30 minutes for chicken thighs to arrive after everything else has been brought out then and then we have to remind you, then don't try and play it off as 'that's tapas' - just admit you forgot the order!!
Would go back and recommend though, the good points were great 👍
Fantastic food...great service and wonderful atmosphere
The food was fabulous, probably the best tapas we have eaten. We were a group of six celebrating my partner's birthday and we had a great time. We decided to do a long lunch instead of evening and it was buzzing with atmosphere.
Will definitely be returning.
The food was absolutely amazing, however, we were placed at the back of the restaurant by the window which clearly had no insulation. We were absolutely freezing but there was no space for us to be moved so we didn't enjoy our meal as much as we should have done. We didn't stay for any more drinks afterwards because we were too cold!
Excellent tapas restaurant, food delicious, particular favourite was the octopus which we both thought was fabulous. Service good with a friendly relaxed atmosphere. Reasonably priced and well worth a visit.
Obsessed with this place. Never disappoints, always something new to try, amazing food and fabulous cocktails once we moved downstairs. Becoming a regular!
Amazing! Waited about 2 months for a table so booked a table for my boy friends birthday. It was just perfect! Food, service and atmosphere. Defiantly recommend! X
Absolutely fab. Great food and atmosphere. As a party of 2 we shared 5 tapas all of which were cooked to perfection We will be returning
Wonderful food, wonderful service, fabulous wine, wonderful evening.
Steph went way beyond the expected standard of service. She brought a selection of white wines and then red wines for us to taste before we made our selections. Her service was friendly and helpful without being over-bearing. Steph made our evening. We hope to be back again soon.
A welcome return to El Gato. Great food, excellent service and knowledgeable friendly staff. Short wait in a very busy bar before sitting down almost on time. The selection of food made picking the suggested 9 dishes between the three of us very difficult. If it was physically possible we'd have had one of each.
Will be going back to check what we didn't have room for
We had a fab time, the food was divine (apart from the tangerine cheesecake, which was vile and our waitress agreed when we complained!) An excellent selection of delicious sherrys went down well!
Wonderful as always! Excellent service, fab G&Ts and superb food! Can't wait to come back!
If you want to eat at this place then you need to book in advance - and trust me, it's worth the wait!
SERVICE: The staff were very accommodating immediately from arrival. They take you to a bar area on the ground floor first whilst you wait for your table. After a less than 5 minute wait they take you upstairs. We had a very cosy table right next to the window overlooking King Street. It ticked all the boxes. They go through the menu with you if you haven't been before and straight away you want everything - they do recommend 2-3 dishes per person which was just about right for us.
FOOD: We had the sharing meat platter. Although you do need to order bread separately it was a fantastic combination and took hardly any time to arrive at the table. Other dishes included Oxtail with horseradish mash - superb! The whole menu has a variety of dishes for all tastes and includes a vast amount of gluten-free options.
Fantastic evening the waiter was lovely and very helpful. The food was delicious. We are going again soon! Would recommend this restaurant to everyone.
Very good food, truly excellent staff. Some of the best quality food in Manchester.
The food was amazing. The service was outstanding to 👌🏻 Would definitely recommend.
Everything about this restaurant is fantastic. The food is absolutely gorgeous and the staff are professional, yet fun and friendly, at the same time. We will keep coming back again and again. Always made to feel very welcome.
Marvelous restaurant. At the moment they have it all just right, the food is amazing, the ambiance perfect, service super.
Slightly strange when you walk in and are asked to take a seat whilst your table is being prepared and then having to hang around as there are no seats. Then there was a confusion with the booking. Once sorted we were shown to a table upstairs, slightly disappointed by the table but the food made up for it. Food and wine was wonderful. Then moved from the table as it had been booked for a second sitting which I get but considering the restaurant wasn't full it seemed odd to move us. So amazing food and wine but not the best service.
Really god tapas. Recommended!
We'd heard a lot of reports of this restaurant, mostly excellent and I am happy to report that the whole dining experience was superb. Lovely interior, excellent friendly service and really delicious food. I eat tapas a lot and was very pleased with our choices: scotch eggs made with black pudding, beef with mash, salt cod croquettes and chorizo all fantastic and good size portions. The cream Catalan was also perfect. The wine was great too and not too expensive for a city centre restaurant. We will most certainly be returning to try sone of the other choices. Highly recommended.
2nd time eating here, food/service/drinks all top class again!
All Very good food, highlight was the lamb kebabs followed by the scallops and plaice dishes. Has lost the friendly ambience of its
original roots, felt a bit rushed in the 2 hour slot and all a bit cramped including the table being a bit too small for tapas for 4 .
This was our first time at the restaurant and we were delighted with both the service and food. The full rack of pork ribs was amazing as were all the other dishes. We will be back!
Fantastic Restaurant centrally located. Staff are extremely welcoming and helpful without being Intrusive. The menu choice was excellent as was the wine menu (our server had a very good knowledge of both the food and wine menu and was happy to make suggestions). When the food arrived it was truely magnificent, looked amazing and tasted even better and not over priced either. We will definitely be returning and will be suggesting this fantastic eatery to our friends and family also.
Yet again, a culinary delight! Warm, helpful service just adds to the whole experience. Well worth the effort to travel over from Yorkshire, it's that good 😊
