Ella's Fine Food and Drink
First, glad for the sake of our anniversary that they were open. The food was well prepared and delivered in a timely manner. Staff wiped down the table between couses.
Overall enjoyable evening.
Delicious night out with friends. Good drinks, good food and good service. Still our favorite place in the Mystic Westerly area. The Prix Fixe menu on weeknights is a great deal and they always have good choices from the menu.
menu with great variety with dishes you won't find elsewhere. Great service and atmosphere.
We started out with the Foie Gras. It was delicious, but I felt a little on the small side for the price.
For out entries, I had the Crabby Scallop. It came with 3 scallops. It was cooked perfectly and had a great flavor.
My girlfriend ordered the Short Rib Gnocchi. The gnocchi were tender and you could tell they were home made. The short rib had a wonderful flavor. Both of them together was a wonderful flavor combination.
Both of these dished I would recommend
All of our dishes were just fine...not excellent but quite good.
The Saigon Beef was wonderful.
My partner’s flounder was a bit dry.
Service was impeccable.
We appreciate the Pre fixe specials.
While my wife and I have had dinner many times at Ellas, always to our great satisfaction, we had never gone there for brunch. We changed that on Sunday of Valentine’s weekend.
As always, the food was creative and extremely well balanced, from the just right Bloody Marys.to my crab Benedict with a potato cake substituted for the omnipresent English muffin.
Ambiance was serene, quiet with friendly but non-intrusive service.
There are many reasons Ellas is one of our very favorite restaurants. They always deliver, never disappoint.
We were a twosome, an omnivore and a plant based diner. Started with excellent cocktail, try the Shinshen (?) , service was first rate. Partner enjoyed a good chopped Salad ($12), and Fried Chicken and Grits ($24). However, the server advised they could offer a vegan entree, a Mushroom Risotto, happy to have a dinner option, I ordered . It was very disappointing, watery, tasteless & should have been called a green bean Rice a Roni. Seriously, I could count the 'shrooms, no deep rich taste that the kitchen is known for, insult to injury, when the bill came it was $36! Ridiculous for a cup and a half of rice and a couple of green vegs...Chef Jeannie is a skilled and sophisticated woman. I wish she would acknowledge that her customer base has become diversified and would love to have her focus some of her considerable skills here. This was an early Valentine's celeb, we splerged on a good bottle of wine and had a memorable evening but probably the bloom is off Ella's rose for us....too bad, we really liked this place.
Although I am not one to complain, it took about 1 hour for our server to come to the table. She was very busy which was not her fault however the restaurant should never have taken our reservation if they could not provide a level of service that is requited for a restaurant of this caliber. No one even apologized including the host.
This was a 2nd visit for my husband and myself to the restaurant. We were not impressed this visit with a number of things. The server was not attentive as there was a very large party that was also visiting the restaurant. The service was very slow and before we could even finish the bread, the waitress took away our plates only to have us wait almost another half an hour before the entrees came. My husband's filet was overcooked and my steak was undercooked. When we had to send the my steak back, they cooked it on only 1 side of it which was visible when we cut into it and one side of the steak was literally gray from being overcooked. When the dessert menu came, the waitress, only when prompted did not know the menu well enough to fully explain the ingredients in the dishes. We loved our first time visiting and am not sure what happened to the quality of the restaurant. For the price that we paid it was not worth it and we will be looking for other places to celebrate special occasions.
As always, Ella’s outshined.
Hello potential Ella customers, the food is very good and the evening was set in motion with a delicious dinner. The crab cakes were the best I have had and I am always searching for the best crab cakes and now I know where to get them. I had a very good waiter who new the menu and how things were prepared, very attentive and aiming to please. The special I ordered was the salmon which was tasty indeed. Ella’s rivals some of the restaurants I have dined at on Federal Hill. Highly recommended.
We had another great meal at Ellas’s. We chose dome items not previously ordered as well as old favorites such as the thicken liver pate.
The food and service were excellent. Our server Justin was very attentive. He had a great demeanor which made the dinner even more enjoyable.
We live 30 minutes away, so don’t often make the trek, but will do so more often after last nights terrific experience reminded us of what a truly exceptional meal can be. Our server, Trish was attentive and pleasant, and the food was excellent. He chopped salad was an excellent twist on our favorite, the scallops with crabmeat topping and steak special were perfectly done. We skipped dessert but the selections looked wonderful. Just wish it was closer to home.
They were swamped that night ,and we waited quite awhile for waitstaff to take our order. I think they need two people at the bar on weekend nights— very difficult to wait on those eating at the bar and do drinks for all the restaurant.
Always an exceptional experience going to Ella’s. In my view it’s the best restaurant in RI. Don’t skip dessert!
As usual, Ella’s was perfect. The food is so marvelous, and so special, it elevates the experience to a special occasion, even when it’s not. The food is inventive and very high quality, but as a somewhat picky eater, I really appreciate the fact that the waitstaff and kitchen are willing to put sauce or dressing on the side, or to leave off something I don’t like. Especially in a restaurant that is all about excellence and invention I appreciate the fact that they put up with my requests so gracefully.
EXTREMELY small portion of crab cake for $24.00. It was about the size of a half dollar, 3 asparagus spears and four cherry tomatoes. Only one pinot gregio, my least favorite. I asked for a 3 oz glass of chardonnay. Was charged for 6 oz. Didn't realize it until I returned home. Drove 55 minutes to get there. Dont think ill return. Apparently others have had the same problem with ordering 3 oz wines and being charged for 6.
Ella's is a real gem! It was our first visit but will not be our last. Everything was wonderful from beginning to end.
The food is always good at Ella`s. I specifically asked for a booth and instead we were jammed in-between two large tables. We ordered an appetizer to share which was the crab cakes, one crab cake $18? No black napkins so I had lint all over my black outfit. Overall, we will go back but will sit in the bar from now on. They need to work on some specifics if they want to be a fine dinning restaurant.
We always have a great meal here. The two waitresses in the bar area are so friendly and efficient. The food is delicious and the drinks are great. A perfect winter spot!
Whenever we are in westerly for an evening, this has become our go to spot. The chef’s artistic craft is spectacular. The Pasta is fabulous and clearly made on site. The choices of entrees and appetizers are diverse but not overwhelming. I can not recommend more going to Ella’s. We dined the prior evening at the Ocean House and the food at Ellas was on par with that fine establishment. Make room for Ellas on your next visit, you won’t be sorry.
Best food in southern RI.
The food was tastily traditional with nice added twists, such as the rice served with the salmon (something "surprise"; I don't recall the name). The service was efficient and friendly without being too familiar, although I marked it a four because I had to ask for bread. The ambiance is quietly classy.
I also liked the fact that the serving sizes were more European than American; for once I wasn't taking home a bag filled with leftovers that sit in my fridge. We will be back.
Ella’s is my favorite local restaurant. I love everything about it!
Place never disappoints..... consistently wonderful!
Ella's has become our "go to" restaurant due to the quality, presentation, and uniqueness of the meals.
One of our favorites, always great food, always great service, always great atmosphere.
Excellent restaurant, salmon was overcooked (first time) this an anomaly out of dozens of visits. Highly recommend
A five star experience! The food was exceptional as was the service. We live locally and expect to have many more special evenings here.
Visiting Westerly, RI for Thanksgiving and booked Ella's based on reviews on Yelp and several other travel sights. Although pricey we were not disappointed. the food was delicious, the atmosphere comfortable and our service was terrific! Noteworthy..my daughter is vegan and there were not a lot of options on the menu for her. Our waitress checked with the chef and he prepared her a vegan dish with Rossato and fresh vegetables. She said it was delicious. They also offered her homemade vegan ice cream for desert! We would definitely dine here again!
Always fabulous. Best food in town Go you won’t be sorry.
If you enjoy superior service and a well thought out menu, this is your date night destination.
Ella's is by far the best restaurant in the Westerly, RI area. You will not find menu choices like the ones that Ella has -- food is excellent -- fresh and spot on. Always a relaxing pleasure to eat there.
By far the best food, service, and atmosphere of anywhere in the area.
The ambiance in Ellas is really very nice, very clean. We were offered the lunch menu because it was only 2:30 and there were some nice pri fixe options for $18. Our complaint really stems from the fact that except for the dessert, the soup/salad and entree were unreasonably small. When the dessert came, we noticed it was quite ample and we mentioned we could share that. Imagine our surprise when our waitress said they didn’t allow sharing! We were the only people in the restaurant, at a corner table and sharing only meant taking a few bites. It seemed ridiculous! Pri fixe usually represents good value but not in this case.
The service and our meals were exceptional. It was a great way to celebrate our Birthdays and Anniversary!!
