Layout is very beautiful for the omakase
Quite a safe fish selection, although something a bit more exotic would be also interesting.
Overall fish quality is as expected with price point.
Absolutely amazing as usual
expected better sushi, presentation was better than the food itself. best dish - eda mame :( expensive for what you get.
I did not enjoy what I ordered. I ordered Bento box with 14 items in a box. Some of them are duplicated and poor quality.
The food used to be amazing. Now it’s inedible. Staff was absolutely not happy to hear feedback. Very disappointed experience. What a shame.
Love the Hide - great experience every time !
Food is great as always. However really poor service from staffs! Feel like they are rushing you out of the restaurant despite there are still quite a few empty tables.
The place looks good, the food was good.
Thanks for the meal.
I went to Engawa for anniversary with my boyfriend. We had omakase menu(3 courses) and it's absolutely overpriced. Although I understand that Japanese fine dining is expensive in London, it could be much better. Quality of fish for sushi and sashimi was poor. Also, customer service wasn't great. Staffs were kind, but a guy who served food even didn't know about food very well. It must be improved since it's a fine dining restaurant. Furthermore, they forgot to give my jacket back so we had to go back to get my jacket back. It's also my fault, but they should've asked us if we kept clothes before we left the place. It's too overrated and overpriced.
Had the most amazing experience at Engawa. Food and service were perfect! The only downfall was a couple sat behind us who were extremely rude to the staff at the restaurant. Although fairly expensive, it was worth every penny! Will definitely come back
A cozy restaurant with spendid service minded personnel. The expectations were high on the food and Engawa lived up to it! We also had the luck to try the kama toro which was amazing! The Hida meat is a must if they are out of Kobe. The drink pairing to the omakase 5 course were on point as well. We could not have asked for a better restaurant experiance!
Very expensive but worth it for a special treat. Loved the imagination of the food and presentation and loved the care in the service.
I booked a table for two via OpenTable one month in advance to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. We chose the 5 course meal, and could not be happier. The service was incredible, punctual and with a perfect wait between one course and the other. Ionela was our waitress and she literally took care of us, explaining us every single plate in detail and precisely and giving us advice. We came for the Wagyu beef but little did we know about the outstanding experience we would have had, because the meal is specifically designed to be a proper journey through the flavours.
The whole staff is amazing and professional: they also lit up candles on the dessert to celebrate my boyfriend and it was very much appreciated. I would have paid 100£ more for the experience we had. I strongly recommend it to people who love food and are curios and willing to try new, surprising tastes.
The food here is truly spectacular and the service is impeccable. The seating is very small and quite cramped inside, but it doesn't really matter when what you're eating is so good! There could also be a few more vegetarian friendly options as part of the set menu. However, overall it's stunning. Definitely recommended!
Very aesthetic box of food and great taste even for a Japanese person. Service could’ve been better though.
Great food and service!
Fantastic first time Sushi
Went for the 5 Course Omakase option, definitely the best choice, such variety and all very delicious.
Wow, what a tasty meal of food. Very nice for me and my group of family. Yes please for more!
The Hida Beef sashimi is really good. The taste of it is very amazingly soft.
The Bento Box is made so delicately and the taste is also very good.
Eating with a beautiful girl, all great but wondering what wagyu looks like
Fabulous food - we had the special sashimi platter and it was spectacular. Highly recommended
The food overall was great especially the waygu beef. Staff were friendly. It was for our anniversary the restaurant had prepared a dessert for us. It was really lovely. Would highly recommend.
Food was amazing, unfortunately the service unflexibel and requests like changing the table (even so we were the only ones) or reducing the air conditioning (which was pointing to our table) could not be accommodated. Even with our jackets on we still were freezing, what a shame.
Went there for the anniversary with my girlfriend. Since the entrance to the restaurant the staff have been super welcoming and ready to help in all the way possible.
Drinks, food and service were outstanding. The chefs as well were super helpful and they help me too with my request for a anniversary dessert.
Had one of the best night ever! Super recommend 👌🏼
My wife and I visited the abbey road crossing. I noticed a French resturant near by and booked a dinner reservation. I have to say this was one of the best cookings I had for a long time. The reason why is that they choose the fresh ingredient and ripe it at the appropriate time, for example the tomato salad. The food presentation is very artistic. The background music and the wine were romantic. It is a very small place. So you feel like you are getting personal attention from the waitress. We enjoyed it very much.
Amazing food and excellent service. One if the few places in london where I will eat raw fish knowing that is fresh.
Overall restaurant is elegant and spotless clean.
One bad note is that the restaurant is tiny and tables are very close to each other meaning less privacy but again food is delicious
The food was delicious and despite the seemingly petite portions, I left full and satisfied with the food we ate on the 5-course omakase. The noise that trickles through from outside reduced the ambience somewhat, but otherwise we really enjoyed sitting at the counter, which was our preferred choice, watching the chefs cook. Although, other than the Kobe which was cooked in front of us, most of the other courses were prepared e.g. soups. Although the soup course for the chef's special was delicious, it didn't seem 'special' at all. I loved the presentation of the sashimi and the vegetables were marinated to perfection! And of course, the Kobe beef left us speechless!
Food was good but too expensive. The bill didn’t reflect the value of the dining experience. Service was very good
I went for my partners birthday and we both left happy customers. The dishes were visually, a work of art and they all tasted excellent. We would definitely return & recommend to others.
We had the 5 course omakase:
First Course - was finely sliced sashimi amongst a finely shredded salad containing orange zest and pomegranate. Light and fresh - perfect to start the meal
Second Course - This course and the Wagyu is why you should visit. The sashimi box was beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. The variety of textures and flavours of all the different dishes makes the eating fun and enjoyable for your palate.
Third Course - This was a hot soup. Although tasty - being summer at the time of visit it didn't feel like it complemented the other courses - and maybe something that would have been better during the autumn/winter.
Fourth Course - The main attraction - the Wagyu, tasted incredible. The meat was fatty and soft, but the high heat meant it had a nice char on the outside. The accompaniments also tasted good. The rice was a form of gyudon and the salad was nice and fresh. Only small nitpick was there was a small soup with it which felt a bit random as it tasted like a very rich gazpacho soup.
Fifth Course - The Dessert was rich and tasty - consisted of cheesecake and fruit, so you can't go wrong there. Also came with a green tea white chocolate sauce which (whilst very rich) tasted great - and I don't usually enjoy matcha flavoured food.
One thing to note is the restaurant is tiny and space is a bit cramped so that may put you off - but being in Soho, space is always a premium. Next time I visit I would probably opt for a counter top seat and watch the chefs work their magic.
Overall, definitely worth a visit - the two items you come here for, the Wagyu and Sushi/Sashimi boxes ticked all the boxes.
It was very nice food of high quality but the portions were very small. I was still hungry when I left after a 3 course meal.
We were served on a 9.45 seating so the restaurant was very quiet. I Was always under the impression that they just wanted us to leave.
Food quality was very poor comparing to other Japanese restaurants
For this amount of money other high end restaurants can offer much better food
This is the place if you want Kobe beef however I did feel rushed as they wanted the table. There was no gap in-between courses and the 5 course menu was done in a little over an hour.
The food was beautifully presented and the beef was out of this world.
Lovely evening...exquisite food and attention to detail. Worth the price tag!
Perfect birthday dinner :) we had the Omakase course. Thank you!
Have been here for a few times. Great sashimi quality as usual. Would like to see some variety to the menu if possible. Probably some variations on wagyu beef.
Great food and service as usual.
The tuna cheek was splendid!
A little cramped as this is a small restaurant, and the next table to us was a bit loud for no reason... the but the food and services always makes up for it!
Highly recommended is you love sushi and good Japanese food.
A good spot for planned catch ups, or special occasions.
I Had a great birthday here with my besties!*
The food is absolutely devine. Satisfied with every course.
Thanks to our sweet sweet engawa stuff!!! me n my friends can stop laughing enough when we saw the way they present my birthday cake!!! —
-My friend accidentally left her sweet potato snacks inside the cake box，(as they may thought is apart of the cake) and they nicely cut them in to diamond shape n decorated on top of the cake for me !!! Its superr cute n thank u so much for this extra special dinning experience.
very small restaurant with excellent food and service
