The food was delicious and despite the seemingly petite portions, I left full and satisfied with the food we ate on the 5-course omakase. The noise that trickles through from outside reduced the ambience somewhat, but otherwise we really enjoyed sitting at the counter, which was our preferred choice, watching the chefs cook. Although, other than the Kobe which was cooked in front of us, most of the other courses were prepared e.g. soups. Although the soup course for the chef's special was delicious, it didn't seem 'special' at all. I loved the presentation of the sashimi and the vegetables were marinated to perfection! And of course, the Kobe beef left us speechless!

It was very nice food of high quality but the portions were very small. I was still hungry when I left after a 3 course meal.

We were served on a 9.45 seating so the restaurant was very quiet. I Was always under the impression that they just wanted us to leave.

Food quality was very poor comparing to other Japanese restaurants
For this amount of money other high end restaurants can offer much better food

This is the place if you want Kobe beef however I did feel rushed as they wanted the table. There was no gap in-between courses and the 5 course menu was done in a little over an hour.

The food was beautifully presented and the beef was out of this world.

Have been here for a few times. Great sashimi quality as usual. Would like to see some variety to the menu if possible. Probably some variations on wagyu beef.

Great food and service as usual.
The tuna cheek was splendid!
A little cramped as this is a small restaurant, and the next table to us was a bit loud for no reason... the but the food and services always makes up for it!
Highly recommended is you love sushi and good Japanese food.
A good spot for planned catch ups, or special occasions.

Second time for us. This time, we went for the 5 course menu. Excellent. One of us had the sake wine pairing and I opted for 3 wines. The champagne was fine but the white (supposedly a "Chablis" ) and the red were really too basic for the price. Such a shame. I happen to be from the Chablis area and there was no way this was a Chablis. As to the red, I did not bother asking. The waitress and the rest of the staff were very nice, even if arguably quite keen to make sure you did not everstay your time slot. All in all, a pleasant dinner, but not entirely worth the price.

Overall and excellent Japanese restaurant, in a nice location, with very polite staff and a cosy ambience.
The limited amounts of seats and quiet environment makes it excellent for a date.
The food is very well presented and the quality is high. However, I believe it could benefit from higher consistency. Some of the dishes were spectacular - the rice was perfect and the fried tofu brought my girlfriend back to her childhood memories in Tokyo. Others were a little bit disappointing - the eel was cold and not particularly interesting and the fatty tuna a tad chewy. Yet the main criticism I'd have is the tea, as it was old and more appropriate for a "cheaper restaurant"; the Japanese sencha should have been way better (and I would have been happy to pay more for that).
Overall, it's a good high end Japanese restaurant and I'd happily recommend going, but I wouldn't call it my favourite in London.

Food tasted really great and look amazing but was expected something a little more special from Omakase menu. Wagyu beef was really nice and tasty. Staffs were very attentive however we felt rushed as the plates were taken away as soon as I picked up my last piece of sushi even though the restaurant wasn’t full. Overall, great experience.

Spent a good money there and was rushed to finish each course. Felt like I was eating at a market. Disgusting toilet. Some of the food were amazing but some, like rice bowl with Kobe beef and an identifiable miso soup were horrific.

We had a superb dining experience at Engawa.. which I booked for my husband’s birthday. The staff are really friendly and accommodating.. The chef even greeted us.. The food was fantastic.. really met our expectations.. especially the famous wagyu beef. It was presented nicely and we ate it all..The staff even explained what we are having..Some review said it’s pricey but it’s worth every bite.. I ordered the wagyu beef ramen and dessert (£25) while my husband had the 3 course meal with wagyu steak (£65). They also served us with an udon soup to start with which wasn’t included in our orders.. We tried the sake..and their bottomless tea, too! (In total we paid £120).The manager came out before we end our meal and gave us a complimentary drink (Mio) really nice and refreshing.. and greeted my husband a happy birthday then here comes this tiny cake with a candle.. It really made his birthday memorable..
Thank you so much, Engawa!

Everything was great although I wish you could order separate lunch items in addition to the set menu. I would order the corn/kabocha squash croquettes by the bucketful....it’s delicious. My one criticism is that each course comes within seconds of each other. It would be nice if they paced the courses so that you could actually enjoy your meal without feeling you’re eating nonstop or being rushed. Also, the waitstaff should refrain from clearing empty plates if some people in the party are still eating. I find it bad form for the conversation or your dining experience to constantly be interrupted by hands/arms reaching across the table to clear empty plates. Just wait until everyone is finished eating and do it all at once. Despite that, I would recommend the restaurant without hesitation.

The food was incredible, and there is a lot of food for the £65 set menu, and really delicious. The wagyu steak was beautiful, and a nice setting. As others have said, it was a bit rushed towards the end of the evening, but we had a late table (9.15) so we were nearly the last people in the restaurant... If I went again i'd get an earlier table to avoid that situation.
